Chapter Thirty Three

Micah

Mom's coffee brown orbs followed my every move as she leaned on my room door.

I just couldn't decide on the perfect dress to wear for this occasion.

It was an evening event, a dinner specifically. I had finally come down to two gowns; a slate silk ankled length cocktail gown and a purple dove strapless mermaid satin gown.

"Which is better?" I finally turned to mom, holding both dresses up.

Mom's eye's left mine to the gowns I held in my hand. She placed her hands on her chin while staring intently until she pointed to the cocktail gown.

"This."

"Thanks mum." My face broke into a smile as I looked away from her.

"Are you going to a party?" Her calm voice called me back as I nodded and explained everything to her.

She was silent for a while before nodding. "You've gone a long way Micah...Thank you." She smiled slightly.

I had no idea how excited I was to hear mom say that until she actually said it.

I looked away with a small grin.

"I might be home late." I informed.

I hugged mom on impulse before she left my room, enabling me to change.

The gown looked perfect on me, hugging my curves.

I stared at my reflection breathlessly in the mirror before hurriedly hugging my arm. I was freezing here but it'll all be worth it when I show up in that party looking just as gorgeous as any other lady there.

I blew myself a kiss in the full length mirror before  running out of my room, hoping I wasn't going to be late.

"Well Damn." Cameron clapped dramatically as I walked into the hallway.

"What?" I chuckled before smiling bashfully.

"I've never seen Micah Harlan get dressed so much for a man. It's... surprising." She teased.

"I got dressed for myself, not a man." I tucked loose strands of my hair behind my ear.

"Sure " she said, clearly unconvinced.

"Your dress is awfully light for winter." Corner sauntered pass as Cameron rolled her eyes.

"The things we do for love." She smiled at me right before I flashed my middle finger at her.

"Don't expect me home early." I said while approaching the door.

"Knock yourself out!" Cameron yelled at me, her annoying giggle following.

"Makes sure Levi visits the loo before he goes to bed." I instructed right before walking out the front door.

The cold, painful air slapped my cheeks immediately I stepped out and I found myself hugging my arms again.

Shit!

My uber hadn't arrived yet, so I stood under my front porch until I noticed a familiar car parked in the sideways.

I kept my fingers crossed as I approached the black SUV, hoping I won't make a fool of myself.

I knocked on the tinted glass and held my breath as it was being wind down.

I heaved a breath of relief as soon as I saw Kristopher's poker face.

"Hey." A smile crowned my lips.

Kristopher's stare rested on me as he was speechless for a few seconds. "Aren't you cold?"

To be honest, I was a little bit disappointed that he didn't comment on my dressing but I was even more disappointed in myself for caring.

"No." My face dropped as I lied. I opened the passengers seat and stepped in.

It was a good thing I decided to go with the slate silk cocktail gown because it matched with Kristopher's lead side sequin tux which he looked stunning in.

Immediately I stepped into the car, I was engulfed with the scent of spicy cologne.

"You look.... Beautiful by the way." Kristopher said just before starting the engine and I felt my cheeks heat up.

"You're just noticing that now?" I teased as I smiled cheekily. "Thank you."

I turned my gaze out the window as I struggled to buckle my seat belts. I just realized that I had never buckled my seatbelts in Kristopher's car and I was unable to do it.

No, it's not my fault. It's stuck.

"Um.." I bit my gum. "Mr Lyon? I need your help."

He glanced at me before groaning.

I was about telling him 'nevermind' but he unbuckled his seatbelts and leaned towards me.

The spicy scent immediately got a lot stronger as he towered over me, trying to buckle my seatbelts, his fingers occasionally brushing my hip.

His gaze left the belt to my face once he had buckled it. He stared at me intently as I stared back into his gorgeous emerald eyes which left my eyes and glanced at my slightly exposed cleavage. His eyes returned to mine, looking a lot darker then before.

This was too intense for me, if I didn't break it up now, I doubt I'd be able to in a few minutes.

"We're going to be late sir." I said nervously as I looked away.

Kristopher immediately gained himself as he sat back on his seat, clearing his throat. "Yes, I'm sorry.  I guess I'm looking for an excuse to be late." he raked his perfect coffee brown hair.

The remaining journey was silent except for my constant dings and notifs from Instagram.

I watched a few TikTok videos before eventually getting tired. How long was the drive?!

"Are we there yet?" I yawned cracking my knuckles.

"Unfortunately." Kristopher said in a quiet tone as I stared at the illuminated mansion in awe. It wasn't as big as Kristopher's but it'll still make you wonder why a couple needs such a big house, not like Kristopher's case is any different. He lives alone in his enormous house.

I stared at Kristopher who looked troubled at the mere sight of this building. I get it, facing your disturbing past is never easy but he had to do this. I squeezed his fingers and gave him a reassuring smile.

We both stepped out of the SUV at the same time as we made our way to the building. The night had just gotten older and much colder.

Shoot!

"Shit!" I cursed out loud as I realized I had forgotten my purse in the car. I pulled my hair inwardly and insulted myself for being so careless.

I told Kristopher but Instead of him getting angry, he offered to get it for me. I felt my heart warm up at his chivalry but then realized he was only doing it to stall.

I hugged myself as I stood in the cold still waiting for Kristopher. A few snow flakes had began falling and melting on my bare skin.

"Hey there." A woman walked up to me before giving me a hug. She was gorgeous with her raven black hair in a bun and her red dress with her elegant looking maroon fur coat.

Her beautiful plump lips spread into a smile as she stared at me and she scented like vanillas.

"I'm so glad you came."

I finally remembered where I had seen her. She was Dina! Kristopher's first love and ex.

Why did she look so excited to see me?
