ใ€Lily lands herself in detention while Sirius and Remus pass the time...ใ€‘

โœฆ โœฆ โœฆ

Lily couldn't believe it had come to this.

Lily Evans- Head Girl -had found herself in detention.

What for?

That was the funny story...

"Potter! Black! What in the name of Merlin do you think is going on here?"

Lily scalded as she made her way up to them briskly.
Both boys had that guilty look that any prefect could smell a mile off. Except that look was one you only expect on first years- and definitely not the Head Boy.

"Nothing at all darlin'!" Sirius Black singsonged cheerfully as if Lily was offering him to smell tulips rather than about to threaten him with detention.

"Don't you darlin' me Black." Lily sneered as she grabbed James by the arm to stop him leaning against the wall nonchalantly. She should have been annoyed at his audacity to lean on a wall, so relaxed, when they were clearly in trouble when, in fact, all she could think about was how muscular his arm felt when she gripped it. And so she tried her absolute best not to let him notice her surprise by making a show of throwing his arm down by his side once he was no longer leaning on said wall.

"You know exactly what you're doing!" Lily hissed, almost like a vulture awaiting surrender from its prey.

"You're right." James Potter began, almost giving Lily hope.
"We do know exactly what we're doing. But you don't- and that's what counts." He flashed her a shit-eating grin and winked at her with his left eye.

"Get it together or I'll deduct points." She stated simply- although she realised that after 7 years of pranking that a few house points didn't make much of a difference to them anymore.

"Not the house points!" Sirius pleaded acerbically, swishing his hair back and fourth.

"Shut up and fix whatever bomb-scare happened here." Lily rolled her eyes and was about to stalk off (not before deducing points), however she was stopped by Professor Gathercole - the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher and all round tosspot. The type of guy that was talking first, asking questions never'.

"What do we think is going on here?" He asked self-importantly.
"Mr Potter? Mr Black? Miss Evans?"

Miss Evans?

She's not part of this?!

"Sir, you've made a mistake. I was-"

Professor Gathercole held out a silencing hand and Lily trailed off suddenly.
"Look at all this! What in the name of merlin have you done!"

And it wasn't an unreasonable question. For what Professor Gathercole was confronted with was only possible described as utter chaos. For starters there was at least two suits of armour on the floor in a shattered cluster, limbs and chainmail sprawled in all sorts of weird and wonderful contraptions. And to add to the already diabolical scene- James wasn't wearing his glasses. Everyone knew he could hardly see a thing without his glasses. And yet somehow they were being worn by the plant standing proudly next to Sirius that Lily wasn't sure she'd seen before.

"It was all Lily's fault, sir!" Sirius pointed an accusing finger at an appalled Lily.

"She stole James' glasses and made him knock over these suits of armour!" He now grinned triumphantly; getting into a swing with his lies now.
"Yes, she pushed him because he was flirting with her as per!"

Professor Gathercole frowned, his rather bushy eyebrows knitted together (not that there was much closer together they could get) and his eyes went hard.
"It that all, Mr Black?"

Sirius let his gaze avert to the floor however his cheeky smile remained poignant.
"Alas- no, it is not. I should probably also mention that Remus Lupin is behind that portrait- most likely bent double and pissing himself with laughter at our misfortunes."

Sirius pushed the portrait rather aggressively and out stumbled Remus, he must have been leaning on the door because James had to catch him when he came tumbling out.

Gathercole still looked unconvinced but stood up straighter in that way he did whenever punishments were due to be dished out.

"All four of you will receive detention on Saturday. NO exceptions!"

All four students didn't even bother to stifle their groans of anguish at the notion of detention.

"Mr Black, Mr Lupin- you will help Hagrid fertilise the vegetable gardens and Mr Potter and Miss Evans will spend lunchtime with Professor McGonogall writing out why they won't be caught in the corridor in such a situation similar to this one. Am I clear?"

No body answered but Gathercole nodded self importantly anyway and marched down the corridor, his brown robes flying along side him like a flock of rather dull looking birds.

"I thought Lily'd left?" James remarked helplessly. He really couldn't see without his glasses!

โœฆ โœฆ โœฆ

And that is what lead them here. Lily and James writing out 100 lines each. It wasn't the most pleasant way to spend a May lunchtime, Lily would much rather be reading Jane Eyre under the oak tree by the lake.

Worse still- Lily couldn't help but notice how incredibly attractive James seemed to be from the seat diagonally on front of her.
His tie was loose around his neck and two of his shirt buttons were undone. His hair looked lighter than it's usual raven due to the late May sunshine and it had resorted to being a slightly more hickory shade. However still curly and messy as always.

She found herself staring at the back of James broad shoulders rather than her paper.

I must not lie to Professors.
I must not lie to Professors.
I must not lie to Professors.

He was getting increasingly harder not to stare at.

His glasses as slipped down his nose, resting at the bottom but he didn't seem to notice- she caught a glimpse through his glasses and noticed he was about as blind as a bat. The rectangular spectacles acted as a literal magnifying glass to Lily who could now see the doodles on James paper.

There was a beautifully shaded golden snitch with the letters J+L written in the middle where the light hit it. It was stunning.

I must not vandalise school property.
I must not vandalise school property.
I must not vandalise school property.

She realised her lines were different to his. But that was about all she could think about before her mind drifted back to how painfully hot he was.

It was annoying really. But the worst part about it wasn't the fact that he knew it. No, it was the fact he didn't. Not really.

What really annoyed her was that he didn't know how cute he was when he was thinking. The way he would bite his lip and pull at his hair gently.

He didn't know how sweet he was when he helped first years find their way to class, or when he helped younger Gryffindors with their homework in the common room.

He didn't know how intelligent he sounded when he helped Lily deliver a meeting as Head Boy and Girl. The way his voice became a little clearer and his adorable accent slipped only slightly away.

And he didn't know how hot he looked now. Just sitting, doing nothing, not bothering to write (what looked like) his 75th line out of 100. His tie was loose and his buttons were undone and his jumper was tied around his neck casually since he'd taken it off around half an hour prior.

It really was hot in that room.

Really hot.

Professor McGonogall looked up from her own work to see Professor Gathercole in the corridor waving for her.
"Urgent matter Minvera!" He called impatiently, "we need you in Dumbledore's office at once!"

Professor McGonogall frowned skeptically or rather irritatedly.
"Lead the way Terrance."

But before she left the room she turned to the two students sitting at her desks.
"I trust you won't burn the place down while I'm gone?"

"Never Minnie!" James grinned and shot the teacher a wink before she turned on her heel and hurried down the corridor and away from them, closing the door behind her.

It was silent for a few minutes. And only slightly awkward. And still the room seemed to be far too hot.

"What's your line?" James asked curiously, breaking the silence and leaning back in his chair to face her.

"I must not lie to Professors." Lily snorted unceremoniously, before taking a look out the window, and a glance at the closed and most likely locked door.

"Figures." James shrugged, leaning back on the chair and resting a hand on Lily's table, getting far too close for Lily to trust her own actions.

"What do you mean, figures?!" Lily almost raised her voice in annoyance.

"Cool it, sweetheart! I was joking! Sorry for getting you stuck in here by the way."

"Don't call me sweetheart." Lily grumbled, secretly fluttering excitedly on the inside.

"Oh, apologies then, my darling angel."

Lily rolled her eyes. This boy was a nightmare.

โœฆ โœฆ โœฆ

Remus laughed. He couldn't believe he was here. Sirius insured they wouldn't get caught, and yet here they were: piling dragon manure onto a vegetable patch. He wished they could have just gotten lines instead.

Oh how he wished to be Lily and James right now!

And Hagrid wasn't even there anymore. Professor McGonogall had come to fetch him and left the boys alone with the vegetables.

"I'm bored, Rem." Sirius announced. Chucking his dung spade halfway across to the forbidden forest.

"Me too, but it's not like we don't deserve to be here." Remus remarked in reply.

Sirius snorted, "deserve to be here! Bollocks! I'm Sirius Black I deserve to be having tea with the Queen!"

Remus smirked, "the Queen or the band Queen?... I mean you're Sirius Black after all?"

At this Sirius almost choked with laughter, "now you mention it, I'd say the band." He remarked with a chuckle.

"Fair play." Remus shrugged, now beginning to agree with Sirius, it was boring.

"I can think of a million and one things I'd rather be doing right now!" Sirius frowned as he trudged along the mud to retrieve his spade he had idly lobbed twenty feet away moments later.

"Oh yeah? Like what?"

"Exploding snap, wizard chess, planning a prank, eating, snogging you..."

At first Sirius didn't realise what he'd said, but Remus did. His eyes went wide and he rooted to the spot-

What did he just say?

Part of him thought he'd imagined the whole thing (and it wouldn't have been the first time), but just as he gave up in his odd sense of hope, Sirius' eyes went wide, wider than Remus had ever seen them.

At first Remus thought Sirius might flee, or make an excuse, or pretend he was joking. Anything.

But no.

Sirius began to laugh.

His snowy eyes sparkled as he laughed as hard as one might when they had been drinking perhaps a little too much firewiskey.

"Did I just say that out loud?" Sirius asked, still wiping tears off his eyes.

Remus nodded, letting his sandy hair bop with his head and catch the wind.
He guessed Sirius wasn't serious, how could he be? Sirius wasn't interested in him. Was he?

"I mean it's something?"

This snapped him out of his thoughts faster than Remus felt should he humanely possible.

"I wouldn't exactly say 'no'..." Sirius added, finally sneaking a look at Remus in an attempt to read his emotions.

But Remus was unreadable. He was frozen still.

Did he mean this?

"Oh for fuck sake Remus! Do you want to or not?!"

Remus nodded. Still not quite sure how it happened or why he nodded.

โœฆ โœฆ โœฆ

"You're insufferable." Lily groaned with her signature eye roll, letting her hair fall to the sides of her face in the way she knew drove James crazy.

"But you love me."

"Yeah."

It took both of them a few seconds to notice what she had just said, and yet when they did it left them both confused. And shocked. And relived.

"Really?" James breathed, Standing up in his chair and walking over to her desk where she now sat on the table rather than the chair.

"Umm..." Lily searched for an answer. One that James might buy, anything. But nothing came to mind.

Except grabbing him by the tie and pressing her lips hard against his.

She had wanted to do it for far too long.

The feel of his soft touch drove her insane, she was sure she would combust any second, the only reason she held off was that combustion would surely ruin the moment.

They kissed furiously, grinning underneath each other with joy.

This was happening.

Lily hands went to his dark hair, running her hands threw it and grinning even more. It was fifth year the first time Lily noticed she wanted to do that to him. And it was only now that she could, she enjoyed it immensely.

"What's happening?" James breathed as he gasped for air.

"I don't know?" Lily admitted, "do you want to to stop?"

At this James almost chocked, "are you kidding? I've wanted you to do that since I was fifteen!"

And so did she. She kissed him once. Twice. Three times. Until it was too many times to count.

Lily was still sitting on the desk and James had his arms wrapped around her waist, stroking her sides lightly and inducing flushes of fabulous heat up and down- following his hands.

This didn't seem like what a first kiss should look like. A first kiss should be sweet, and kind and soft. And it should be after a respectable amount of dates! This, however, was not.

But Lily found herself, for the first time in her rule abiding life, that she didn't care. This was better than any poxy fairytale kiss.

Plus.

She thought.

This was James Potter. The fairytale won't be far behind.

"Lily?" James gasped as he pulled away, taking in air like it was the only oxygen left in the world.

"Yeah?" Lily realised her own voice came out raspy and thin.

"Can I call you Lily?"

She smiled, he really did make her heart melt.
"Sure you can... James."

The dark haired boy grinned devilishly. "It's weird. To hear you say that. You'd called me it so often I'd have thought you assumed my name was 'Potter don't be a bloody prat!' Or perhaps 'Potter shut your trap before I hex you' but don't hold me to that!.." he smirked, brushing her nose with his own. She could feel the bridge of his glasses on her face and she still smiled.

"James?..."

"What?"

"Shut up." And she pulled him closer to her by his dark curls.

โœฆ โœฆ โœฆ

Not ten seconds later Remus and Sirius found themselves hid behind a large tree on the edge of the forbidden forest. Cutting edge with danger and kissing like their lives depended on it.

It wasn't like Remus had imagined it would be. Not at all (and he had imagined it enough times)! It was in an odd way, much much better.

It was weird, and exhilarating, and thrilling, and messy, and awkward, but it was perfect. It was so right. Neither of them had ever experienced something like it before, it was a thing of dreams. Sirius was sure he was dreaming. He must be?! Why else would Remus be here, holding him as he held him back, lips, hands and hearts intertwined.

He'd pined, sure. Remus had often stolen a look or two at Sirius and wondered what it would be like to do what he was doing now. But he'd always suspected it would be a hopeless case. Never. Ever. Did he think he would find himself here.

If course he knew that detention alone with Sirius was a terrifying prospect. Alone. With Sirius. It didn't even sound right. It was terrifically terrifying, and he loved it. A lot.

"Moony?"

Sirius had stopped kissing him and now stared up into his eyes. Sirius had the most amazing moonlight silver eyes, that twinkled and glittered with endless emotion.

"What?" Remus asked, suddenly painfully aware of the absence of closeness.

"I had no idea?" Sirius frowned guiltily, but not breaking his stare. He noticed that Remus' eyes were flecked with the most soothing bursts of honey and gold that surrounded his amber irises.

"I know. Neither did I."

A silence follows them. It washed over them like a gust of wind. In fact, there was a gust of wind; reminding them that they were, in fact, outside, in the middle of detention and they could be caught at any moment.
They certainly were having detention with danger.

"I wonder what Lily and James are doing?" Sirius grinned, breaking a silence that didn't need broken. But that was just Sirius' way; He always found a need to talk, to fill silences, and to crack a joke or two.

"Probably snogging on the desks. You know what Prongs is like when he sets his mind to something- and if it's Lily I can't see her objecting. I don't know about you but I for one have noticed the moon eyes shes been giving him."

Sirius laughed at Remus joyfully.
"Moon eyes! Wordplay!"

Remus groaned in exasperation, rolling his eyes dramatically.
"You're a royal pain in the arse, you know that?"

"Yes I do."

"Good. Now I fail to comprehend why you stopped kissing me?"

Sirius smirked. "Me too."

โœฆ โœฆ โœฆ

Both couples were head over heels before their detention with danger. It was obvious to everyone and everything around them. Even the ghosts gossip! And if it were possible the grass might tell the trees what it already knew.

They were happy after that day. Both of them. They seemed like the power quartet of the school- nothing and no one could get in their way of happiness. Not even a war.

Of course there was a few holes in the story; there always is with every love story.
Lily got her fairytale James Potter in the end. And Sirius now never had something to be bored about, even in detention!

And Mrs McGonogall didn't mention the day she opened the door to check on her detention students to find them too wrapped up in each other's arms to notice her arrival. She did what every good Professor would do- she closed the door behind her and didn't look back, smiling to herself and pretending she'd seen nothing.

Of course Hagrid had done the same when he arrived back from his meeting with the senior staff.

And Professor Gathercole learned never to ask all four of them to serve detention alone. No matter how much carnage he found in the fourth floor corridor.

And Lily never did find out what the suits of armour were doing on the floor in the end. She knew better than to ask. And even if she did ask- she wasn't sure she wanted to know anyway.
