1. camp solstice and a shit ton of cabin names
πππ πππ ππππ ππ ππππ ππππππππ was mostly silent. rio lived 45 minutes away so they left at 1pm instead of 2 pm. rio shuffled his playlist, a few dominic fike songs playing here and there. he didn't want to speak to anyone. i mean, they were sending him off to a camp because he's "too much to handle." those are exactly the words that came out of his uncles mouth.
rio never had a good relationship with his uncle. his parents are dead so hes really the only family he has left. his aunt on the other hand, shes the sweetest. but shes studying in brazil, so he has to deal with his uncle until she comes back. of course, his aunt doesnt know about all the stuff rio has to put up with. she doesnt know about rio wearing sweatshirts to cover his bruises, having to be as silent as possible during the middle of the night in fear of waking him up, and all the yelling that echoes the off the walls everyday, as if its a routine of his.
the silence in the car was quickly broken when they were 3 minutes away. "don't you fucking think about causing any trouble there." his uncle, rob, spoke up. rio just looked at him in confusion. sure, rio got into trouble A LOT. but why does it matter? his uncle only speaks to him whenever he needs a personal punching bag, so whats the point of making him happy?
"look at me when i talk to you. if you get sent home early god help you." his uncle added, his grip on the wheel making his knuckles turn even whiter. rio nodded. "atleast i wont be a bother anymore." he muttered. when he saw the big sign on the side of the road that spelt out in big, colorful letters, "CAMP SOLSTICE", he sat up straight and turned the radio down. his uncle parked and looked at rio. "dont forget what i said, kid." rob looked rio dead in the eyes. "i wont." rio managed to get out, slamming the car door and slinging the duffel bag over his shoulder.
"ππππππ, ππππ ππππ ππππππππ ππππ πππππ πππππ ππππ" the words of olivias father rang through her ears. "on it, papi" olivia called out, running out of his office and taking in the fresh hair hitting her face. her dad owning the camp helped her enjoy all the summers shes spent there. the fact that both of her parents were there with her made her feel so much safer. they weren't strict either. they understood that their daughter needed her space sometimes and they gave her just that.
olivia ran out with a clipboard in hand and a pen in the other. she watched as all the kids got out of their cars and heard the speakers start playing music. "super rich kids" by frank ocean was playing, but it was quickly drowned out by the sounds of kids talking, radios blasting, and of course, her friends squealing the moment they all saw eachother. "theres my favorite nepo baby!" loraya pulled via into a tight hug. loraya always called via a "nepo baby" since she was a counselor because of her parents. olivia laughed and took in the scent of lorayas perfume.
"via! rory!" estelle's voice could be recognized anywhere. she ran up to them and dropped the three bags she brought. she gave both loraya and olivia the biggest hug ever. the three girls went to different schools. olivia went to an all girls catholic school, loraya went to a public art school, and estelle went to a private school. they've known eachother since they were 10 and they've been inseparable ever since. after the three girls just spent like a minute hugging in silence, olivia pulled back. "shit, almost forgot, i gotta find tell people their cabins." she spoke in a hurry.
"give me one of the papers, ill help." ellie put her hand out for olivia to give her a list of names. loraya did the same, making olivia smile and give them each a paper. "when you're done, meet at our cabin, okay?" olivia told them. both girls nodded and ran off, each grabbing a mega phone. via grabbed a mega phone and started calling names. there were a shit ton of names to read, so she made sure everyone heard her nice and clear. after like 2 minutes of reading cabin names, she made it to the final cabin. she noticed that there were only 2 boys left. she assumed that those were the kids in the "eagles" cabin. she jumped down from the picnic table she was standing on and went up to them.
"kaiden wright and rio alvarez, right?" olivia asked, glancing up at them from her clipboard. "yeah" rio muttered. "yes maam" kaiden joked. olivia crossed their names off the list and looked up, taking in their features for the first time. she could feel the blood rushing to her cheeks and she just nodded. "you guys are uh, eagles cabin. matteo's your counselor and he will be answering any questions." olivia pointed to a cabin in the distance, noticing matteo unpacking and moving the beds around to make more space in the room. she watched as the two guys just nodded and started walking. she swore she heard rio say "thank you" but she was too distracted by his face to notice. she just stood there, slapping a fly that landed on her away while she watched rio and kai make their way to the cabin she assigned them to. she knew she had to go meet up with the girls back at her cabin and she did just that. she began to walk to her cabin, her mind racing with thoughts of rio and what she was going to tell the girls about.
