It all started in Unrivaled. Y/n had gotten pretty close to Skylar during the time she was there. And to be fully transparent, she had always identified as straight. When she caught romantic feelings for Skylar is when she realized she was not straight. The only one who knew that was Skylar, because they started dating, secretly.

But the thing was, she was a really attractive woman. Naturally, her looks drew attention from men. Anytime she went out, they'd flirt with her, ask for her number, all that stuff. It didn't effect their relationship either. Skylar did tend to get a little jealous, but she didn't make a big deal of it.

The only thing that bothered her was when her friends would try and set her up with guys. It happened a couple times in Unrivaled when they were out for dinner. Her friends were encouraging her to get a guy's number right in front of Skylar. Now that, genuinely irritated her.

Which is why Skylar was encouraging her to at least tell her friends about them. And she was.

They were on their way to Seattle for their next game after beating Dallas, and y/n planned to tell them. She was just waiting for the right time. It was their off day in Seattle, and once y/n got to her hotel room, she shot a text to her girlfriend to let her know. Skylar pulled up almost half an hour later to pick her up.

Walking down to the lobby, her teammates Courtney and T spotted her and called her over. "You still comin' on the stream tomorrow?"

She nodded, tucking her hands in her hoodie, "yeah, I am."

"Cool. Where you goin'?" Court asked.

"Goin' to get breakfast and no y'all cannot join me," she smiled, waving her fingers as she walked away. She walked down the block and spotted Skylar's car, smiling before she ran over to it. She pulled open the door and climbed inside, immediately leaning over to connect their lips. "Good mornin' my beautiful girl," Sky whispered softly against her lips.

She blushed, sitting back down and pulling on her seatbelt. "Good morning."

Skylar glanced over her and scoffed, "uh-uh, I know you did not just climb in my car wearin' that."

"What?" She glanced down at her hoodie and winced, realizing it was repping Minnesota. "Oh."

"Take that off." Skylar reached into the backseat and grabbed her notre dame hoodie to hand it to her. Y/n pulled off her Minnesota hoodie and tossed it into the backseat. She pulled on Skylar's notre dame one and looked back to her, receiving a nod of approval. "Much better."

As she drove, she reached over to set her hand on y/n's thigh. "Did you tell 'em yet?"

"No. But, I plan to later when we go on the team bonding boat trip. I'm just gonna tell them I have a girlfriend but I won't specify that it's you." Skylar nodded, always supportive of whatever decisions she made. "Well, I told Nneka and Gabby, and they obviously not gon' tell nobody. You take all the time you need baby. They don't gotta know it's me unless you want them to."

She smiled softly, taking her hand to press a kiss to it. "You're the best."

"Would it be too much for me to ask if you could sleep over at my place tonight?" Skylar queried, a little nervous to ask 'cause she didn't want to overstep too much. They were still kind of in the beginning of their relationship. It was still very serious though. They were very serious about each other.

She smiled, obviously not gonna say no to spending time with her girlfriend. "That's not too much. I would love that."

Later that day, the team was on a boat having a blast. She still hadn't found the right time to tell them yet. But, she did pull aside Diamond to tell her first only because they were the closest. "I have something I wanna tell you." Diamond took a sip of her drink, nodding as y/n held her other hand. She took a breath, Diamond giving her hand a supportive squeeze. "I have a girlfriend."

Her eyes widened, "wait- what? You're not..?"

"No, I'm not straight."

Diamond grinned excitedly, pulling her into a hug, careful not to spill her drink on her. "I'm so happy for you. That's wonderful." She knew Diamond was gonna be supportive, but the nerves always got to her.

She pulled away with a bright smile, "do I get to know who this special lady is?"

She glanced behind her to make sure nobody else was nearby. She wanted at least one person to know. "Only if you promise not to tell anybody."

"Oh absolutely. Secrets safe with me. Is it someone I know?"

"It's Skylar."

Diamond squints, confused for a second before it clicked. "Oh, my gosh. Diggins? You're dating Skylar Diggins? Like you're enemy, Skylar Diggins?" Y/n rolls her eyes with a playful smile, "okay, we're not enemies."

She scoffed, smacking her arm, "yeah as if it wasn't on sight between you two for years. I can't believe the enemy turned you."

She laughed, taking a sip of her drink, "you're so dramatic. She's not the enemy."

Diamond smirked, "well not anymore."

A couple minutes later, they were all gathered around playing a game of truth or dare as music played in the background. Why truth or dare? No idea. It was Natisha's idea. Nobody was picking dare so it was mostly just straight truth.

"Y/n, truth or dare?"

She took a gulp of her drink, already feeling the buzz of the alcohol. "Dare."

"I dare you to tell us a secret, any secret."

Diamond glanced at her nervously, really hoping she didn't drink too much 'cause she knew she didn't want anyone else knowing it was Skylar. She smiled at the group, Jess's arm slung around her shoulders. "I have a girlfriend."

Everyone paused, jaws dropping like a scene in the Looney Tunes. "You gay?" That was the only thing that came out of Courtney's mouth in that moment. She was a little offended she didn't notice. Her gaydar was usually on point. Y/n chuckled, nodding her head as she took another sip of her drink, "yes, I am gay. I discovered so a couple months ago."

Kayla, T, and Court were all still taken back, processing it as the others jumped to congratulate her. Napheesa leaned over to take her hand, "We're so happy for you, y/n. You deserve all the happiness in the world." She smiled, a tear rolling down her cheek, "thanks Phee."

"Damn my gaydar has been so off lately it's crazy," Court comments, getting a laugh out of them.

"Yeah we happy for you though. Happy pride. I'mma get you a rainbow mug with your name on it." Natisha grins, leaning over to dap her up.

"All of y'all are scared to ask so I'mma do it. Who's the girlfriend?" Kayla questioned. Was she a little jealous about this? Yeah. Only 'cause she used to have a thing for y/n.

Diamond was quick to cover y/n's mouth before she drunkenly spilled the beans that her sober self was holding. "It's none of your guy's business. Their relationship is very private." Y/n nods, leaning into Diamond and Jess with a buzzed smile.

"Hold on- you know who it is?" Court queried, offended that she knew before her.

She grins, "of course I know. I'm her bestie."

"Alright, I'mma try not to take that personal. But best believe, whoever this lady is, she better be treatin' you good. I'm talkin' she better crash out 'bout you." Courtney stated, saying what everyone was thinking.

"Don't worry. She treats me like a princess." Y/n reassured, smiling as she thought of her girlfriend.

"Hold up- you said a couple months ago? Like during Unrivaled?" T asked, suddenly making everyone invested as they tried to think of names. She shared a look with Diamond and they both laughed. "Oh my god, is it Kira?" Court asked.

She shook her head, "no."

"Damn, who it is?" She mumbled, trying to figure out who the fuck it could possibly be.

"It's-" Diamond quickly covered her mouth, and Jess snatched the drink out of her hand. "Okay, that's enough alcohol for you."

"No, no, no, let her talk!"

"What's up chat?" Y/n grinned, waving at the camera as T and Court were hyping her up. "You can take my chair," T offered immediately. "Thank you." She took a seat and set her drink and keys on the table. "We got our mods in here. Let's keep it cute chat," Court says.

Y/n leaned forward to read the chat, T squints as she looked at her, "you smell different."

She laughed awkwardly, "what do you mean by that?"

"Like you smell different. Did you change your perfume? That's not your usual scent." T questioned, leaning in to smell her again as she chuckled, pushing her head away. "I don't know. Stop sniffin' me."

T shrugged, leaning over to read the chat and she happened to read out loud. "Why are you wearing at Notre Dame hoodie?" She furrowed her brows, looking at y/n's hoodie. "Hey, why are wearing one?"

"Didn't you go to Iowa?" Court questioned in confusion.ย

"Um..yeah. My cousin went to Notre Dame," she lied, knowing damn well she didn't have a cousin who went there. It was Skylar's hoodie, obviously. And the perfume T was smelling on her? Skylar's, again.

"Really? I didn't know that." Court mumbled before they just shrugged it off.

They got to talking about random stuff, and Court asked the chat to ask some questions for y/n. "Y'all got any questions for y/n? Keep it cute though." Y/n leaned forward to read the chat, "am I single? No. I'm not. Glady taken over here." After she answered that the chat went a little crazy, wondering who her boyfriend was. Her past exes had been NBA players so that had everyone wondering if she was dating another one.

"No, I'm not dating Jimmy Butler. Why do y'all keep askin' that?" She laughed, taking a sip of her drink.

"She not tellin' y'all who it is. Stop askin'," Court scolded.

"Why do you hate Skylar Diggins?" She mumbled, looking offended that someone asked that.

"Put that person in a time-out right now," Court ordered.

"Um, I don't hate her. I don't know where y'all got that from," she chuckled nervously. Did she and Skylar get into it a couple times through the years? Yeah. But they never once implied that they hated each other. She praised her in interviews all the time. Skylar even made it clear there wasn't any beef several times, and that was before they started dating.

"Y'all gotta understand, things get heated on the court. That don't mean we got beef off it. Y/n and Skylar been cool. They was chillin' in Unrivaled too. I was there." Court defended, T nodding in agreement even if she didn't really see it all that much. Then she squints, internally putting some pieces together. She could've just been reaching though.

"Exactly," y/n nodded.

It was game day. Minnesota Lynx vs Seattle Storm. Of course the 9-0 streak was on the line.

She walked over to Skylar, sharing a little secret handshake they had. Sky had a little smirk on her lips as they did it.

Seattle got off to a hot start, completely shaking up Minnesota. Y/n was beyond frustrated. None of her shots were landing. Her passes weren't the best. Her defense was lacking. The 1st half just wasn't cutting it for her. She definitely couldn't wait for halftime so she could get her head on straight.

When T came back to the bench, she leaned in to whisper to y/n. "Are you dating Skylar?" Her eyes widened, looking at her in confusion, and shock, "did she tell you?" T grinned, shaking her head, really excited she figured it out. "I smelled her perfume. Put the pieces together."

"You not jealous, right?"

T scoffed, waving it off as if she didn't have a little crush on Sky. "Nah...okay, maybe a little bit." She chuckled in amusement, throwing an arm around her.

Halfway into the 3rd, y/n fouled Skylar in transition, causing her to fall. She yelled something at the ref and got called for a tech. "I didn't even foul you," y/n denied. Skylar was not in the mood to hear that back talk so it wasn't surprising when she snapped back. "Yes you did. Shut up!"

Funnily enough, that was the nicest thing Skylar ever said to her during an on-court argument. Usually she'd throw in a cuss word or two.

"Oops," y/n mumbled as Kayla pulled her over to the huddle. Seattle were now down by 11, thanks to Minnesota's hot start in the 3rd.

Into the 4th, Seattle were up 4, the score 84-88 but Minnesota still had a chance to get the lead back. Thirty seconds on the clock, Kayla hit y/n with the bounce pass for the lay to close in the score. And...she blew it. The crowd got as loud as ever and it was the most humiliating feeling ever. Y/n knew she was gonna replay that moment in her head for hours.

Kayla and Phee both tried to nudge her, let her know it was okay but she wasn't gonna be able to let it go. It was one of the easiest layups in her book and she screwed it up when they needed it most. No amount of assurance from her teammates was gonna help.

T had to foul Erica, setting her up for some free throws. She made both of them. Coach took the time out, score 84-90 with Storm in the lead. Still a two possession game so they did have a chance to come back.

25 seconds on the clock, y/n was set to tip the ball in. Just as she threw it, Gabby jumped in front of her to deflect it. Ezi got it and passed it to Erica as T was forced to foul her. Y/n sighed heavily, her teammates giving her a pat, knowing she was in her head. A missed layup and turnover all because of her.

Ezi missed the first throw, but got the second. T got the ball, passed it out to Phee who was forced off the line. She shot it, it bounced off, y/n grabbed it for the rebound but fell back and the ball landed into Skylar's hands. She passed it out the Erica, encouraging her to go for the layup instead of dribbling it out. She got the lay, Kayla shoving her in back mostly out of frustration.

Skylar pressed her for it which caused her and Kayla to get into it. T ran over to deescalate the situation and Skylar just smacked her hand away, telling her to shut up too. Y/n ran over as Kayla walked away, being called for a tech. T was trying to deescalate, but only pissed off Skylar even more.

Y/n wasn't one to get involved in this stuff unless she was the one running her mouth but the last thing she needed was Skylar and T getting into it. So she quickly stepped in between them, setting her hands on Sky and she didn't shove them off like she did with T. "We good over here?"

"No, no, I'm good, you needa check your girl. She's the problem." Skylar argued, calming down significantly when y/n started rubbing her arms.

"She's good. Emotions are just high right now. I'll talk to her. We don't want no problems." Y/n said, T nodding in agreement, letting her do all the talking because whatever she said didn't work. "I don't want problems either," Skylar shrugged.

"Then we're good. Let's leave it at that." She patted her back before she and T turned to walk away, and as she did, Skylar gave her a little smack on the butt.

Skylar knocked in her free thow. Erica missed hers, it bounced off the rim and Nneka caught it to keep the ball live. She thought about pulling it but passed it out to Erica, who decided to try and fake a pull up 3 on y/n. The clock ran out and y/n walked back over to her team, really frustrated with the way she played today.

Back at the hotel, T was chilling in y/n's room waiting for her to finish packing up before they had to catch a flight back to Minnesota. "I don't know how you do it. She told me to shut up and I almost cried," T said jokingly, trying to make her friend laugh 'cause she knew she was being hard on herself for tonight. She tried to tell her it wasn't her fault and that they all weren't playing the best but y/n wasn't listening to any of that.

Y/n laughed as she folded up her clothes, separating her dirty ones from her clean ones. "You still got a crush on her?"

T scoffed, crossing her arms over her chest like a kid in timeout. "No. Not after that."

There was a knock on the door, y/n set her shirt down to walk over. She pulled it open, and of course it was Skylar. "I know I'm like the last person you wanna see-" y/n cut her off to press their lips together. Skylar smirked into it, sliding an arm around her waist, the other cupping her cheek to deepen it. They stumbled back into the room, the sound of T munching on chips causing them to pull away.

They looked at her and she smiled, popping another chip in her mouth, "don't let me interrupt."

Skylar was not amused, more bothered that their moment was interrupted. "What is she doin' here?"

"She is right here," T input, raising her hand with a cheesy smile.

"I wasn't talking to you," she shot back, leaving T to frown, offended by her attitude.

"Let's relax," y/n scolded, taking a seat at the edge of the bed. T rolled her eyes, picking up her phone to avoid any conversation with Skylar. Y/n turned to her girlfriend, a small smile on her lips. "What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be out celebrating?"

Skylar smiled, taking her hands to hold. "Yes, I am. But, I wanted to come see you before you left. How are you feeling?"

"I'm fine," she lied.

T scoffed loudly, "she's lyin'."ย

Y/n shot her a glare, "eat your chips and shush."

"Baby, you know that loss wasn't your fault. But, I'm not gonna say not to get in your head 'cause I know sometimes you need to beat yourself to be better. You can cuss yourself out all you want, but give yourself a little grace. It wasn't all your fault." Skylar spoke, understanding y/n's feelings a lot better than anyone else did.

"I needed to hear that. Thank you." She sighed, sliding her arms around her waist and Sky smiled, pressing a kiss to her head.

"By the way, I didn't foul you," y/n mumbled.

Skylar pulled away with an amused scoff, "do not start. You know damn well you fouled me."

"No I didn't," she denied. At this point she was just fucking with her because she watched the replay and saw the uncalled foul. "Okay, you 'bout to piss me off."

She laughed, pressing a kiss to her neck, "I'm just messin' wit' you, baby. I know it was a foul."

Skylar rolled her eyes, fighting a smile, "you play too much."

Natisha glanced up from her phone, "not to interrupt this cute pride month moment but y'all needa wrap this up 'cause we got a flight to catch."

Skylar sighed, bringing her into another kiss, savoring it. "I love you. Call me when you land." She didn't spare Natisha a goodbye before she was out the door, not wishing to hold them any longer. Y/n stared up at the ceiling, confusion gracing her features, "did she just say what I thought she said?"

T grinned, all geeked for her friend, "damn, she pulled out the L word."

Y/n grinned, T jumping on the bed excitedly like it was her relationship. "Okay, maybe the loss wasn't so bad."
