They were friends, and teammates in Chicago. They were as close as ever. Then Kah left for Phoenix, and y/n left for New York. They grew apart, naturally. The hatred truly came out of nowhere. It just happened. One day, a game day, y/n hard launched with her boyfriend a couple hours before the game against Phoenix.

That game is where it all went south. Kah was fouling her on purpose, talking shit, and it was a lot more personal this time. Y/n didn't know where it was coming from but she wasn't gonna back down. She didn't care if it was Kah. Let's just say, harsh words were shared, hands were thrown and it ended in an ejection.

Her sister called her, trying to convince her to talk to Kah. She wanted to leave it on the court. She did, truly. But the things Kah was saying made that impossible. She couldn't let it slide.

Nothing Candace said could get through to either of them.

Before we get into the current state of events. Let's take it back to 2021 when shit was still sweet.

"Hey, I'm just lettin' you know Kah's comin' over. You can choose whether you wanna leave your room or not." Y/n glanced up from her phone to look at her older sister. "Why she comin' over?" Candace blinked, taken back by her attitude. "Okay, I'm gonna let you ask me that again with a little less attitude."

She groaned, forcing a sweet smile, "why is Kah coming over? Better?"

Candace smiled, nodding her head, "much better. She's coming over because Anna's making dinner and Kah invited herself."

She chuckled, continuing to scroll on her phone, "she always be doin' that."

"You want us to save you a spot at the table or you goin' over to your little boyfriend's place?" Candace asked, very much saying that with spite. She didn't like him at all in case that wasn't obviously. She rolled her eyes, "he's not my boyfriend. We're just talking."

"Well, he's a man-slut so..." She shrugged, not shy about her feelings towards him at all.

"Whatever. Just save me a plate. I'll come down." Candace nodded, going to leave and not shutting the door, her sister yelling at her for that. "Shut the fuckin- damn it, Candace." She groaned, getting up to shut the door as her sister was laughing down the hall. She swore she was gonna get her own place but..living with her sister was cheaper and she liked to be a little cheap.

It wasn't until Candace called her for dinner that she got up and went down to the living room. She seen Kah sitting on the couch, looking all comfortable like she lived there too. "What's up pretty?" Kah greeted, and y/n smiled, leaning down to hug her. "I'm good. How you been?"

"Bored out my mind," she answered, hand lingering on her waist before sliding off.

"Yeah, I feel you. Ain't shit to do." She backed up, going to sit on the arm of the couch before Candace smacked her in the back of the head. "Ow!" She winced, turning to scowl at her sister. "Dinner's ready. We're eating by the pool." She said before casually walking away as if she didn't just smack her.

"She so abusive," she mumbled, rubbing her head as Kah stood to her feet.

"Girl she barely tapped you," Kah deadpanned, heading towards the backyard as y/n trailed behind her. She was offended, naturally. "Why are you takin' her side? Are you seriously still mad I got that block on you in practice?" Kah scoffed, trying to act like it didn't still bother her but it did. "No."

"She's definitely still bitter." Candace instigated, sitting at the head of the table.

"Nobody was talkin' to you." Kah scowled, pulling out y/n's chair for her before plopping down in her own.

"Watch that attitude before she slap you next." y/n mumbled, reaching for the strawberry lemonade they made specifically for her.

After dinner, it had gotten late and y/n didn't want Kah driving so late at night so she told her to just stay the night. She did, obviously. She actually didn't even hesitate when she asked. It always made Candace raise a brow. Kah did quite literally anything y/n asked but when it came to other people, she didn't know how to say yes.

"I'm just sayin', getting a block on BG would officially make my life worth it." Kah chuckled at her words, watching her from the bed. "Would you rather get a block on BG or win a championship first?"

"Block on BG," she admitted, genuinely surprising Kah with that. "Seriously?"

"I'm dead serious." She dimmed the lamp and climbed under the covers, turning on her side to face Kah. "The amount of blocks she's gotten on me is ridiculous. I gotta get my lick back eventually. I been workin' on my jump too." Kah chuckled, loving how determined she was for something that would probably never happen.

"How come you don't got your own place?" Kah asked, holding her head up with her hand as y/n leaned against the mountain of pillows she had for some reason.

"Cause livin' wit' my sister is cheaper," she shrugged. "Ain't gotta pay no bills."

She chuckled, shaking her head in amusement. "That actually makes sense." Y/n's phone rung again and she rolled her eyes, turning it off and tossing it on the bedside table. "Who's that?" Kah queried. "My annoying pet," she mumbled in annoyance.

"A boy? Or girl?"

She chuckles softly, "a boy, obviously. Love the girls but I don't swing that way."

Kahleah found that pretty hard to believe, but to each their own. "So you got a boyfriend?"

"Absolutely not. We just talkin'. I feel like he just wants me for status. Like oh my god look at me I'm with Candace Parker's sister." She mocked, rolling her eyes as she thought of his behavior again. Kah sighed, shaking her head in exasperation. "I don't know why you put up with that. You are your own person. If he don't want you for you, stop talkin' to him."

"Yeah, you right." She sighed, reaching over to grab her phone. She pulled up his contact and blocked him. "I'm done wit' his ass."

Kah smiled, taking the phone to set it back on the table so they could switch the topic. Y/n caught herself smiling at Kah's smile, eyes glancing over her smooth lips momentarily. She didn't think she did it in a gay way though. She just thought Kah was super pretty, and obviously had nice lips, and a nice smile...and pretty eyes. Kah caught her staring, lifting a brow, "why you lookin' at me like that?"

She shrugged like it was totally normal to look at your friend and teammate like that. "I just think you got a pretty smile."

Kah smiled, thinking a lot into that but she didn't show it. "You got a pretty smile too."

She buried her face into the pillow, the compliment making her flustered. She took a breath and moved her eyes back onto Kah. "See, this why I like hangin' wit' you. You always complimentin' me." Kah smirked, "and how's that make you feel?"

She hums, turning on her back but still keeping her eyes on Kah. "Makes me feel good."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah." She nodded slowly, smiling softly as Kah moved in closer, legs brushing. "Now that I think about it, you compliment me more than he does." Kah nodded, "how you feel when he do it?" Y/n sighed, it wasn't a disappointed sigh or anything, it was just amused. "It's cute but I think he just says it to get me under the covers. You're more pure hearted wit' it."

"Am I?"

"Yeah. I mean, it's not like you gon' try to kiss me after you give me a compliment." Kah hummed, nodding her head in agreement as if she wasn't thinking of kiss her right now.

There was a knock on the door and y/n huffed at the moment being interrupted. Candace pushed open the door, flipping on the light with a smile. "Your boyfriend is at the front door begging to see you. I had to stop him from standing outside your window with a speaker playing 2Pac."

Kah bit back a smile, "2Pac is crazy."

Y/n rolled her eyes as Kah stifled a laugh, "just tell him to go away. I don't wanna see him anymore."

"Okay, I will. But he said he's gonna be back tomorrow." Candace chuckled, very amused with all this because it just felt ridiculous.

Kah raised a brow, looking at y/n, "damn, what'd you do to him?"

"I didn't do anything."

Candace scoffs, "liar." Y/n shot her a glare, grabbing a pillow to throw it at her and she just caught it. "Can you go away now?"

She rolled her eyes, "fine. But we have practice tomorrow so don't stay up too late, both of you." They rolled their eyes as she threw the pillow back and shut the door behind her. Y/n turned back to Kah with a smile, "hey, you wanna cuddle?"

Kah blinked, "for real?"

"Yeah. I wanna be little spoon." She was being completely serious. She reached for the lamp to turn off and turned on her side. Kah moved behind her, hands hesitant to touch her until she felt y/n's hands grab hers to guide them around her waist. The position definitely gave her a rush of confidence because before she could even gather her thoughts, she was pressing a kiss to y/n's neck.

She smiled, turning as Kah looked down at her with soft, tired eyes. She didn't say anything. Just placed a peck to the corner of her lips before laying her head back down on the pillow and shutting her eyes. "Goodnight."

"Night."

Back to current events.

A week ago, y/n and Kah had both gotten into it during the Mercury vs Liberty game. Let's take a quick visit to that moment.

It was the 4th qtr, and obviously leading up to it, there was tons of aggression and trash talk. The refs failed to get it under control, again. Y/n's boyfriend was courtside, as he played for the Knicks. He used to play for the Bulls until y/n left Chicago. He followed her to New York, which made them a bit of a power couple in the eyes of New Yorkers.

Y/n always had a short temper. She kept it under control relatively well. She always blocked the trash talk and aggression out. Until it came to Kah. She knew how to push her buttons in the worst way. She knew how to make her react and it was beyond frustrating. It infuriated her. Kah was doing it on purpose. Taunting her the whole game, trying to get a reaction out of her, one bad enough to make her feel regret and shame afterwards.

It came in the 4th.

Stewie had gotten a steal and threw it out insanely far to Y/n. She and Kah both ran for it, jumping for the ball and colliding with each other. They were on the floor trying to fight for the ball. The ref blew the whistle but they didn't care. It was more than a jumpball to them. "Give me the fucking ball! You fuckin' bitch!" Y/n exclaimed, climbing over her to try and pull it from her arms.

"Let it the fuck go!" Kah argued.

Their teammates ran over to break it up. JJ and Stewie grabbed onto y/n and pulled her off of Kah as Natasha and Sophie pulled Kah up. "You fuckin' crazy?! Fuck is your problem?!" Y/n exclaimed, pushing off her teammates to run at her, shoving her harshly. Her teammates caught her before she could fall. "Don't put your fuckin' hands on me!"

"I'll do it again! I don't give a fuck! Keep tryin' me bitch! I'ma meet you in that fuckin' lobby!" JJ and Sab pulled her back to the bench, the blonde rubbing her arms to try and calm her down. "Alright, let's take a deep breath. You're good," Sab soothed.

They both got called for the technical, and were ejected from the game.

Y/n and Kah only had one thing running through their heads. Meet up in the lobby. They headed in the same direction, finding each other at the middle of the arena in an empty hallway. They stopped a couple feet away from each other. Y/n wasn't backing down now. "You had all that shit to say on the court. Don't stop now. Let me hear it."

"Don't be puttin' yo' hands on me," Kah scowled.

Y/n smirked, walking over to her to close in the distance. She dug her finger into Kah's shoulder, "and what are you gonna do about it?"

Kah grabbed her wrist, gripping it so tightly it would leave a bruise but y/n didn't even wince. "I don't gotta do shit. 'Cause once this game ends, you gon' realize how immature you acted out there. You gon' feel all humiliated and embarrassed in front of your dumbass little boyfriend."

"You don't get to talk about him," she scowled, pulling her wrist out of her hand to shove her into the wall.

"I told you to stop touchin' me." Kah grabbed her jersey and flipped her around, pressing her up against the wall so she couldn't move. "You're fuckin' crazy. I ain't done shit to you. You started all this shit and I bet it's 'cause you jealous."

Kah scoffed in disbelief, almost offended by her claims. "What the fuck would I be jealous of?"

"Don't play that shit." She wasn't stupid. She knew what this was about when she realized all this started after she hard launched. "I know you jealous of my man. You mad he got me and you don't." Kah didn't say anything, too pissed off to get anything out. Her jaw was cleaned, glare sharp as y/n just smirked, knowing she got under her skin with that.

"That's what I thought. Fuck off me." She pushed her hands off and shoulder checked her as she walked away.

Back to the present. The Olympics were coming up very soon. Both y/n and Kahleah would be on Team USA, and Candace needed to act quickly. She had to get this shit sorted before Kah and y/n ruined it with their problems. So, she planned a dinner in New York at y/n's and her boyfriend's apartment. Candace obviously made him leave before she had Kah over.

"I just don't understand why you made him leave. If this is a family dinner, shouldn't he be here?" Y/n asked, setting the table like her sister asked. She obviously had no idea Kah was coming over, and if she did, she wouldn't have allowed it.

"He's not exactly family yet," Candace remarked. She still didn't like him. Why would she? He hadn't done anything to earn it.

"He's been in my life for three years. That should qualify as family, Candace." She retorts, helping her bring the dishes to the table.

"If you say so," she mumbled, glancing at her phone for a split second before the doorbell rang. She ran over to get it, pulling open the door to see Kahleah. "It smell good in here. I didn't know you could cook like that," Kah spoke, dapping her up before stepping inside. "I wish that was true. I didn't cook."

She led her to the dining room as Kah asked, "who cooked?"

They turned the corner, y/n glancing up from the wine in her hand, eyes landing on Kahleah immediately. She formed a glare, "what the fuck is she doin' here, Candace?" Kah was just as confused. Candace just looked guilty as fuck, and was. "What the fuck is this? You set me up?"

Candace sighed taking a seat at the table. No point in denying it. "Yep. Now sit down. Both of you."

They rolled their eyes, filled with displeasure as they took seats across each other. Y/n didn't waste a second to open the bottle of wine and pour herself a glass. Now she knew why Candace didn't want him there. "Look, I'm sorry I had to trick you but you wouldn't have agreed to this if I told you."

"That's for sure," Kah mumbled.

"The Olympics are coming up, and I don't want you two to fuck this up with your dumbass beef."

"Oh I'm not gonna fuck it up. Can't say the same for her though." Y/n remarked, receiving a glare from the Mercury player. "Ain't nobody ask for your dumbass little side comments, y/n." Candace sighed as they started arguing again. She poured herself a glass and served herself a plate of food as they continued.

She continued to eat, the arguing continuing and she lost track on what it was even about. A some point in the argument, they both stood up, still yelling at each other as Candace watched. "You are so fucking delusional if you think I actually had any kind of feelings for you! I don't even like girls, let alone you!"

"You callin' me delusional like I ain't catch you watchin' me change in the locker room. You're living in denial all for a man who don't give a fuck about you but your status." Kah argued, Candace slowly nodding in agreement as she took a sip of her wine, not that they paid her any mind. At this point, they forgot she was in the room.

"Oh my god, just admit you're fuckin' in love with me and that's why you keep tryna turn me gay! I'm not my fuckin' sister." Candace raised her brows, setting a hand on her chest, taken back by that comment. How did she get pulled into this?

"You just fuckin' lyin' and that's cool cause I know the truth. You actin' innocent but I know you was always tryna touch on me. And I know you wanted me to touch you too. I bet you dyin' for me to touch you right now." Kah stated, taking another step towards her but y/n didn't make any effort to back up and further the distance. Another sign that told Kah exactly what she had always suspected. Y/n wanted her just as badly as she did.

She rolled her eyes, stuck in denial like always. "I can't fuckin' stand you."

"Can't stand me but you still want me to fuck you." Candace's eyes widened mid bite into her garlic bread, glancing up to see them inching closer and closer to each other. "Did I hear that right?" She mumbled to herself.

Y/n scoffed under her breath, still stuck in denial like she had always been. From the time she fell in love with her best friend in middle school to now, when she obviously fell for Kahleah in Chicago. That didn't mean she was making any first moves. "Yeah and you too pussy to do anything-" it happened fast, her words cut off when a pair of lips found hers. Kah's slid around her waist to bring her closer. The kiss was messy and aggressive, filled with all the frustration from their arguments.

Candace just calmly collected her plate and wine glass and walked out of the dining room. She got to her room and sent a text to y/n's boyfriend, letting him know not to come over until tomorrow...when Kahleah was gone. She wasn't all for cheating but in this case...it had to happen. It needed to be done with before the Olympics came up. If it didn't happen now, it would've happened in Paris.

Pulling away for air, y/n cupped her jaw, breathing hitched the more Kah touched her..and she touched her all over. "I still hate you."

"Feelin's mutual, princess."

"Don't call me that."

"I'll call you whatever I want."
