Jada Williams transferred to Iowa State, following the girl who'd been trying to get away from her since 2022 when Jada stole her boyfriend. Y/n chose Iowa State and Jada chose Arizona. They were hundreds of miles apart. Y/n never had to see her again, or him. Right? No. She just had to transfer to her team. It was...infuriating.

She wanted to leave again, but she couldn't. She made coach a promise that she'd finish her college career with them, that'd she'd go into the draft under Iowa State. She loved her girls too. Iowa became her home. She couldn't leave it, no matter her hatred for Jada Williams.

It didn't stop fans from talking about. Mikey Williams exes both playing on the same team after he dumped Y/n for Jada. It was the hot topic.

Things like this were exactly why she never wanted to date again. She never wanted to open her heart to anyone ever again.

She knew Jada was back in Iowa, hearing it from her teammate. She avoided her at all costs. She wasn't going to see her until it was absolutely necessary. And it became absolutely necessary June 9th. Coach called her, asked her to come down to greet their three new additions in Reese, Evangelia, and Jada. She got dressed, a simple hoodie and some sweats. She seen Audi first and greeted her, "I'm surprised they got you to come here."

"It'd be rude not to." She shrugged, tucking her hands in her pockets. She followed Audi down to coaches office where they found the three new players and coach.

"Audi! Y/n! Come say hi to our newest Cyclones, Evangelia, Reese, and Jada." Audi greeted Jada first, giving y/n time to greet E, and Reese. "Hey, I'm y/n. We're very happy to have you. You'll be great additions to the team." She dapped them up with a kind, welcoming smile. Then she got to Jada. It was awkward, for her at least, Jada seemed fairly comfortable. "What's up baby? How you been?" Jada greeted, dapping her up like they were old friends catching up.

"Fine. Thank you." She took a step back and kept a fair distance.

They gathered for a picture, Y/n staying off in the corner furthest away from Jada. After that, she was quick to drop an excuse for her exit. "Uh, this was lovely but I gotta get goin'. I gotta take my mom to the hospital." It wasn't exactly a lie. But she didn't have to take her mom for another two hours. Audi knew this but she didn't say anything about it. Why would she? She completely understood why y/n's perspective on the Jada/Mikey situation. She'd be uncomfortable too.

More time passed, y/n still hadn't talked to Jada since that day. She received many dms from her but ignored them all. She seen Jada on social media enjoying her time at the WNBA All Star Weekend. She wished she could've went too but she had to stay in Iowa to care for her mother. She was at the hospital with her mom when she got a call from a random number. She answered it, curious. "Hello?"

"Hey, it's Jada. Please don't hang up!" Y/n took a breath, glancing at her mother who was reading a magazine not paying her any mind thankfully. "What do you want?" Jada sighed in relief, grateful she didn't hung up. "So look, I just wanted to let you know before you hear it from someone else that uh..we gon' be sharin' a dorm. It tried to ask them to switch but they said it wasn't possible and since your last roommate graduated, you got an empty room. I just want to assure you that I will be nothin' if not respectful of you and your space. I know this can't be easy. It ain't my first choice either."

She exhaled, resting her eyes to calm herself before she screamed in the hospital full of sick people. "I won't be there on Saturday. You can move your stuff in then."

Jada went to say something else but the call dropped. She glanced at the screen, saving the contact and smirking, "I love my life."

It was Sunday and she didn't get to the dorm until late at night. She unlocked the door and pushed it open. She set her bags down by the door, trying to ignore the sound of her TV on. Jada sat up and quickly paused the show she was watching. "Hey, I noticed you ain't have Netflix so I just logged mine in. You can use it if you want. I added a profile for you."

"Oh, um, I had Netflix, I just forgot to pay it." Another lie. She never had Netflix. She couldn't afford it. The only app she had on there was Tubi. Medical bills, rent, and paying nurses to look after her mom when she was at school took most of her money. "Well you ain't gotta worry 'bout paying it. We can just use mine. I got some other apps too..is it cool if I log them in?"

"Go for it." She encouraged dryly, making her way to the kitchen to make herself a sandwich. She pulled open the fridge and immediately noticed how full it was compared to how empty it was when she was last there. Jada walked over, smiling awkwardly, trying to avoid y/n going off on her at any point. "I noticed it was a little empty so I filled it up. I asked the girls what you liked and tried to get stuff you'd eat. You're welcome to take whatever you want. Same goes for the snacks in the cupboard. I ain't one of those stingy roommates."

Truthfully, it was a really sweet gesture. She couldn't really afford to fill it up herself so it was nice. No matter how much she disliked her, her mother taught her manners. "Thank you. I really appreciate this."

"It's no problem. I was thinkin' we could make a monthly grocery list of things we both like. Maybe go shoppin' together too." She shifted awkwardly, "um..I can't really afford that." Jada already knew that. She knew a lot about y/n. Mostly from their teammates who only told her because they knew y/n would lie her way out of it. Jada smiles softly with the most understanding eyes. "It's a good thing I never said you had to pay for anything."

It was nice of her. But she still had those thoughts in the back her head telling her this wasn't genuine. She wasn't sure if she could trust her. "Why you doin' all this?"

"We're teammates, y/n. I take care of my teammates, regardless if they like me or not." It was obvious that was directed at her. She didn't care. She was glad Jada was aware. She nods, pulling the fridge back open to make herself something to eat.

"Cool. I'mma go take a shower." She didn't respond, and Jada went to leave, not before adding something else. "Oh and I noticed you was runnin' out of body wash so I bought you some more."

"Tryna buy back my forgiveness," y/n mumbled to herself as she pulled out items for her sandwich.

A week went by and in that week, Jada had been getting y/n in on all her NIL deals. Y/n couldn't understand why she was doing that but didn't question it because she needed the money. She told her mom about it, and of course her mom thought Jada was such a sweetheart for it. She was, but it didn't excuse her evil behavior before. When the commercial came out with both of them in it, the fans went crazy. It got so much attention, they were both getting calls about brands wanting to work with both of them.

Y/n was okay with it as long as it made her money. The only thing she didn't like was the attention. The negative attention. The comments from fans always bringing up the past. Always bringing up him in anything she did. It frustrated her. She was sick of being associated with him. Even worse when people were saying she was only doing these brand deals with Jada for attention, just to get back at him. It was ridiculous. She didn't give a fuck about him. Why would she want his attention?

More time passed, they worked well together during practice and even better on the court for their first game together as teammates. It still didn't make them friends. Y/n did not like Jada, but she had already accepted she wasn't going anywhere. It was after the game that they went to the locker room. She checked her phone and seen the numerous missed calls from her mom and the hospital. "Shit."

She slipped on her slides and ran out without a word. Jada was quick to run after her. "Y/n! What's wrong?" She followed her all the way out to her car where she had unlocked it and climbed inside. She turned the key, but the engine didn't run. "Fuck! No. No. No. Not right now."

"We can take mine! Come on!" Jada said, unlocking her own car.

Y/n jumped out hers and ran over to Jada's, hopping in the passenger seat as she started it up. "Here, put the directions in." She took the phone and typed in the hospital name. Her foot tapped impatiently and Jada sped there going as fast as she legally could. She parked in the lot and they jumped out, running to the doors. Y/n got to the nurse station first and got the visitation passes for her and Jada before they let them up to her mom's room.

She took Jada's hand, it was a subconscious move. She let it happen, allowing y/n to pull her along the hospital halls. She got to the door her mom was in and immediately pushed it open, eyes landing on her mother laying in a hospital bed with an oxygen mask on and ESPN on the TV where she was just watching their game. "Oh, thank god." She let go of Jada's hand to run over and hug her mom.

"What happened?"

"Momma just had a little fall in the tub. I'm okay now." She assured, pressing a kiss to her head. She noticed the uniform her daughter still wore and frowned. "Awe, I ruined your celebration, I'm sorry baby." She shook her head in objection immediately. "Don't worry 'bout it, Momma. The important thing is that you're safe." She reassured, taking her hands and glancing over at the heart monitoring machine to make sure everything was nice and steady.

Her mom tilts her head to look at Jada who lingered in the back, also still in uniform. "This must be Jada." Jada smiles, waving her hand. "That's me. Nice to meet you, ma'am." Her mom smiles warmly, already loving the energy of this girl. "It's nice meetin' you too, baby. I wish it were on better circumstances."

A doctor knocked on the door before coming inside. Y/n stood up as he approached her. "May I speak to you in the hall privately?" She nods, following him out and Jada followed, ready to support her for whatever news she was about to receive. "So, we got some scans back and it appears the tumors have grown an extensive amount at a rapid pace. To remove as much as we can, she'll need to undergo another surgery as soon as possible."

Jada set her hands on her waist, rubbing soothing circles through her jersey. Y/n took a breath, "you guys said the treatment was supposed to stop them from growing and now you're telling me they're growing 10x faster than before? This is bullshit."

"We can discuss more possibilities about the treatment after her surgery. Dr. Shepard thinks we may need to up her dosage, although, the side effects may get worse if we do. It's totally up to you. We don't need to decide now." She wiped her face, blinking away the frustrated tears. "How much is the surgery gonna cost and when can we do it?"

"We suggest Wednesday at the earliest. And I can have someone send you the paperwork regarding the bill." She nods and he left to go and do that. She turned to Jada who dropped her hands before y/n noticed. "Thank you for the ride but you can go now. I don't want you missing class."

"What about you?"

"I'mma stay with her."

"A'ight, but I'mma pick you up for practice tomorrow."

"I can take the bus, but thank you."

"I'm picking you up, y/n." She stated firmly, not leaving room for argument.

It was Wednesday now. Jada was still taking y/n places because her car was in the shop. They finished class and headed over to the hospital, not before stopping for food, and getting some for her mother so she could have something to eat after the surgery. Y/n pushed open the door and walked over to greet her mom with a hug. Jada set down some more flowers that y/n's professor asked them to give to her mother. She set them down beside all the other balloons and flowers from their teammates and staff.

"That smells good. I wish I could eat." Her mom mumbled, looking at the girls who were sat down on the sofa together pulling out the food. "We got you a soup for after the surgery. I know you hate hospital food." Y/n said, setting the soup to the side for later.

"How was practice?"

"Horrible. Y/n sassed coach so I had to take the punishment and run suicides for her." Jada said and y/n smiled sheepishly, "I told them I could do it but they felt guilty so..." Jada snorts, "you need to control your attitude 'cause I ain't runnin' suicides for you next time. Actin' like a brat."

"Don't call me a brat-"

"Brat."

Her mom chuckled as her daughter and Jada started fighting. She picked up y/n and slammed her into the sofa. "Girls. Behave." Y/n huffed, turning away from Jada with an eye roll. Jada takes a bit of her sandwich, gesturing to her, "see that? Brat."

The doctor came in with two interns ready to prep her for surgery. Soon, y/n and Jada followed them to the doors of the OR. They stopped, the girls not allowed any further. "Can we say a prayer really quick?" Y/n requested and the interns nod, stepping aside. Jada went on the other side and they each took her mom's hand. They closed their eyes and prayed.

Her mom smiled tiredly, giving their hands a squeeze. "See you in a minute."

Jada moved to wrap her arms around y/n and she made no efforts to push her away. They walked back to the room in silence. "You wanna watch a movie?" She nodded and Jada set up her IPad and the table to put a movie on. She kept a distance when she sat down. But y/n didn't want distance in this moment. She needed comfort. And right now? Jada was the only one who could give her that.

She moved closer to Jada, and she took the hint and put an arm around her to bring her closer. She rested her head on her shoulder as the movie played. Her mind drifted to the past, and she hated that she hated Jada. She didn't want to but she felt like she had to. "Why'd you do it?"

Jada knew what she was talking about. Of course she felt guilty about it. Her reasoning wasn't even all that good. "I was jealous. You was gettin' all the attention, star of the basketball team with your hotshot boyfriend. You had the perfect life. I wanted that. So I took it. And I'm sorry."

Y/n wiped her eyes, "I blamed you. Mikey left me...then my mom got cancer and my dad left us. We went broke. I had to sell our house. I blamed you for my life going to shit." Tears ran down Jada's eyes, "I'm really sorry, y/n. I was so stupid. I didn't even come here for the right reasons-"

"What?"

Jada sighed, turning to her, ready to tell her the full truth. The guilt was eating her alive. She couldn't keep up this lie. "I came here to uh...to use you to get back at him for cheatin' on me. But then I seen you weren't what I thought you were. You were sweet. You were hurt. You were kind to me even when you had every reason to hate my fucking guts. And I realized, I don't ever want to hurt you again. I never want to be the reason for your tears. I promise, y/n. I will never hurt you. You're like my best friend."

She took a breath, Jada still holding onto her like she was scared to let go. "That's all I wanted. I just wanted an apology."

"I'm sorry, y/n." Jada sighed in relief, wrapping her arms around her, almost tackling her against the cushions.

"I forgive you."

Weeks passed, they were getting closer. Jada came over for Sunday dinners. Y/n got to meet Jada's family. They were best friends. They grew a bond on the court for the world to see. They hugged after huge plays and wins. The camera were constantly on the them. And for once, y/n didn't care what anyone had to say about her. Jada protected her from it. She'd even go on live and jump to defend her from all the haters who had a problem with her attitude that she tended to have on the court. Jada was always there to calm her down, something everyone else had failed to do in the last two seasons.

Jada was falling in love with her. And she couldn't keep on suppressing her feelings.

She came to the realization a couple days ago. She was scrolling on her phone, liking some posts about y/n's stats in the last game. All whilst y/n was sitting in front of the vanity in her room braiding her own hair and singing a Paramore song. She couldn't help but stop to admire her.

It was a game day. Jada planned to her tell after they won. But, their teammates decided for them to go to a party to celebrate. For the first time, y/n agreed to go despite not being to a party since high-school. Ironically, Jada was the only one who didn't want to go. She just wanted to be with y/n. But, since y/n was going, she was too.

It wasn't even five minutes and a guy was asking her to dance. She said yes. Jada was standing by the outside tables burning with jealousy. That should've been her. It ruined her mood the rest of the night. But she always put on a smile in front of y/n. She was upset but she was not going to ruin her night. They were about an hour and a half in when y/n came up to her, setting her hands on her waist and leaning in to whisper over the loud music. "Can we go?"

Jada didn't hesitate to put her drink down and take her hand. "Let's go."

They got back to their dorm and went to Jada's room. She plopped down on the bed as Jada pulled off her hoodie. "I can't believe so many guys wanted to dance with me. I have never been more nauseated in my life by the smell of country club cologne."

Jada laughed, "that's a thing?"

"Oh absolutely. They all smell and dress the same."

Jada climbed in beside her, and she turned on her side to face her. "You looked really good tonight." Jada bit back a little smirk so she didn't seem so cocky. "You looked good too." She smiled shyly, attempting to hide her flustered face with her braids. Jada reached up to push them away. "Don't do that. I wanna see you." The tension was thick. She knew now was her time.

Jada leaned in slowly, nose brushing against hers. "I love you." She slipped a hand around her waist to bring her body closer. "I want you. Do you want me?" Her breath hitched slightly, filled with nerves but it was normal. She always got nervous in front of Jada. "I want you too, Jada."

That cocky smirk cut across her face before she finally pressed their lips together. She shifted her body to hover over her, deepening the kiss. Pulling away for air, she trailed her kisses down her neck, licking and sucking at her smooth brown skin, taking some time there. Maybe it was the possessive nature in her that made her linger there longer, sucking a mark just below her ear. She gasped softly, "you gon' get me in trouble, J."

She smirked, pressing a kiss to her collarbone, "we'll cover it up baby."

Soon enough, all her clothes were discarded to the floor. Jada's lips were trailing down her stomach, hands gripping her thighs to keep them spread for her. "I love you." Jada's eyes shot up to hers and she smiled, "oh, I'mma treat you so good baby."
