six.
EVA WAVED AT BELLY FROM HER BEDROOM WINDOW. She gave her two thumbs up with a huge smile and her friend laughed as she followed Cameron. They had a date at the drive-in tonight.
The brunette went with the boys and the mothers to Laurel's book signing because she was a writer. Eva had read some of her books and she was actually good.
She put on jeans and a red T-shirt that bared her shoulders, then she made two braids that fell over her shoulders. She went down to the living room where the four boys were playing a video game. Jeremiah raised his head when he heard her enter and looked at her with half-shocked, half-amazed eyes. She became more beautiful every time he saw her or what?
"Damn it, Jer, we lost the point! Focus!" exclaimed Louis, unaware of the cause that had distracted his friend.
"Uh, yeah, sorry." he stuttered trying to refocus on the game.
"Hey, Ev, do you know anything about the guy Belly is dating?" Steven asked.
"Cam? Yeah, I talked to him a few times, he's friend with Eliott, you know the guy I met at the bonfire. Why?"
"How is he? Good for her?"
"Well, he's smart. He's very nice, and like, very, very respectful. You don't have to worry about her, she'll be fine with him."
"I trust you then."
☆
"Don't drop it." Jeremiah told Steven by stacking books in his arms, creating a large tower of books. "You can do it, okay?" he said putting on more, completely hiding Steven's head as Eva laughed.
"Okay, guys, enough now, it's going to fall." she warned them with an amused tone. "Let's just go do something else."
"Like what?"
"Dunno." she said as she sat down on the couch.
Jeremiah came to sit next to her and Steven on the other side. Louis joined them a few minutes later. Her sister gave him a questionning look and he discreetly mouthed 'Jonathan'. She smiled.
Conrad sat down next to them as Eva's phone rang for a message. She unlocked the screen and smiled as she read Eliott's text.
"It's your boyfriend?" Louis asked.
"He's not my boyfriend." she answered while texting back.
"Well, he's clearly into you, tho." Steven told her.
"No, he's not."
"She can't read signals." Louis mocked.
"Rude." she said. "I can read signals."
"No, you can't. You never kiss anyone because you don't understand when they like you. And because you don't know how to flirt either." Louis said.
"I know how to flirt!" she defended herself. "It's just that I don't do it."
"Because you don't know how." Conrad spoke for the first time.
She looked at the four boys with a shocked expression on her face.
"I'm sorry? Does it sound like a challenge?"
"Look at the blonde guy right here." Conrad said with a nod to the boy. "I bet five dollars you can't get his number in under five minutes."
Eva turned to the boy and then to her friend.
"Deal."
"Time it." he said to Steven.
Eva got up from the sofa, shaking her head. It was ridiculous. Of course she could flirt. She had had a good teacher. They would be surprised.
She walked over to the boy with a big smile. The boys watched her say a few words to him and it wasn't long before she moved closer to him and began to touch his arms and his chest. She slid a hand to his forearm and whispered something in his ear.
"Wait, she's actually good." Steven said.
The boy smiled and told her something else. They laughed and she handed him her phone. They saw him write his number in it and she smiled as she picked it up. She placed a kiss on his cheek and gave him a wink before returning to his friends with a big smile.
"Three minutes and twenty-eight seconds." Steven exclaimed, stopping the stopwatch.
"How did you do?" Louis was surprised. "How do you know how to do that?"
"Louis, seriously, my best friend is Gaby. She flirts better than anyone. I may be not doing it often but I learn from the best." replied his sister, shrugging her shoulders before turning to Conrad, holding out her hand. "My five dollars, please."
He smiled and gave her the money. Jeremiah had to admit that she was doing well. But he would have preferred her to flirt like that with him. Steven spoke.
"Well, speaking of flirts, we could go to the drive-in."
"Dude, gross. No. I don't want to watch Belly hooking up with some kid at the back seat of a minivan." Jer answered.
"That actually could be fun." Louis exclaimed.
"Yeah, actually... let's go to the drive-in." Conrad said.
"You guys are gross and total pervs." Eva told them.
"Let's go!"
"Guys-" Jeremiah said.
"Come on, get up." Steven told him grabbing his arm.
"So you're just gonna leave me alone here?" Eva asked after them.
"Come with us!" her brother said.
"For fuck's sake." she rolled her eyes. "I can't believe it."
She followed the boys but texted Belly to let her know. Her friend didn't text back.
☆
"We could go somewhere else." Eva tried again.
She was sitting in the back of the car, between Jeremiah and Conrad. Steven was driving and Louis was sitting in the passenger seat.
"Come on, that'll be fun."
"We're here anyway." the Conklin boy smiled while he entered the drive-in.
Steven parked next to Cameron's car and Eva sighed when she saw that Belly and the boy were about to kiss. He quickly went out of the car so she supposed that her friend asked him to grab a drink or something.
When he left, Belly got out of the car while Jeremiah, Steven and Louis were miming kissing noises.
"You're gross." Eva told them, tapping on Jeremiah's shoulder to make him stop.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" she exclaimed, opening the car's door.
"Just catching the end of our favorite movie." her brother told her.
"You have no right, you have to go!"
"Belly, relax, we were just jocking around." Jeremiah leaned over from the backseat to speak to her.
"Steven, if you're not leaving, I swear to God, I will send everyone in this car your Dramione fanfic."
"Oh my God, can I read it?" Eva exclaimed, also leaning over.
"You wouldn't." Steven told her sister.
"He spent an entire chapter talking about Draco's wand."
"Oh my God." the brunette and Jeremiah burst out laughing.
"Bro." Conrad chuckled.
"This is the funniest shit of the summer." Louis laughed.
"Don't be embarassed, man, Draco's hot." Jeremiah told his friend.
"Now, please, leave." Belly whispered.
"Come on, guys, let's go." Eva added.
"All right, let's go, guys." Conrad said, looking at Belly.
"What? Are you kidding me?"
"Steven, drive the car!" Belly exclaimed.
"You were the one who wanted to come, Conrad." his brother looked upset while he was starting the car.
☆
"Thanks for trying to warn me, tho." Belly said to Eva when they were both sat on the Campbell's girl bed. "I didn't look at my phone."
"I'm sorry we came. I tried to make them going back to the house but they didn't listen."
"I know, don't worry about it. You wanna the good or the bad new first?"
"Always the bad in first place." Eva answered.
"I had a fight with Conrad."
"Shit, why?"
"Because of them coming to my date. I told him it was because he didn't want to see me with another guy and he said he didn't care. I told him he should grow up and then... he told me I should look at myself in a mirror."
"He did what?" Eva exclaimed. "This little bitch! I don't understand what's his problem this summer, he's so weird."
"I know. I didn't like the way things are going when I'm with him."
"I'm sorry, Bells." her friend said, putting a hand on her back. "Hey, why don't you forget him and just tell me the good new?"
"Yeah! Cameron and I. We kissed! We made out in his car for minutes!"
"Really?" Eva exclaimed. "That's so cool, Bells! Was he nice?"
"He was adorable. He really was."
"I'm glad you found someone you like and who likes you back."
"Thanks. This Eliott guy you told me about seems nice enough. I'm glad you found someone too."
"Me too."
Neither of them knew the other wasn't telling the entire truth.
