eleven.

THE ONLY TIMES EVA HAD LAUGH THIS HARD WERE WITH JEREMIAH OR GABY. Her glass in the hand, she screamed and took another shot. She was totally and completely drunk.

Eliott had invited her to a party organised by one of his friend and she went by herself. But she had fun anyway. She actually didn't even remember how come she drank that much but she felt good.

Despite all the alcohol she had swallowed, she could only think of one thing. And it was Jeremiah. She took her phone and without stopping to laugh she called him, not realizing it was 3am.

"Hello?" he said in a sleepy voice.

"Jeremiah?" she laughed. "I miss you so, so, so much."

"Eva? What are you- wait, are you drunk?"

"Prfffft nooo." she giggled.

"Where are you?" Jere asked.

"To a party."

"Yeah but where?"

"I don't know! Maybe... on sunset street I think."

"Okay, you stay here, yeah? I'm coming to get you."

"Whyyy? I wanna stay."

"Stay just where you are. Promise me." Jeremiah told her.

"Fine, dad. I promise." she said with an annoyed tone. "Oh, there's another shot contest, I gotta go!!"

"No, Eva, don't-"

He was cutting off by the girl who hung up the phone. He swore and jumped in his car. Since Belly's birthday, things were weird. Belly and Taylor had a fight because Tay and Steven had kissed so Steven was feeling bad because of Shayla and Conrad kept staying silent. And now Eva was getting drunk.

He parked in front of the house a few minutes later and rushed inside. He looked in the living room but she wasn't there so he followed the corridor and entered the kitchen. Eva was standing up on the table and was screaming while dancing and laughing for literally nothing.

"Jeremiah!" she exclaimed when she saw him.

"Come on, Eva, come." he approached the table and gave her his hands while she was leaning towards to get down of the table. "Put your arms around my neck. Like this, yeah. Perfect."

He helped her to get down and she laughed while she hugged him.

"I'm so glad you're here!" she exclaimed before laughing again.

"Eva, how many drinks did you have?" he asked her.

"I don't know. Two, five, eight. Eleven. A few shots. Who cares?" she exclaimed, raising her arms.

"I care." he replied, taking her by the hand.

"Hey, I got your drink." suddenly said a guy, giving a full glass to the brunette.

"Hey, no, give me that. Give me that." Jeremiah snatched the glass from her hand before she had time to drink and gave a dirty look at the guy. "Can't you see she's had enough to drink?"

"Relax, I was just messing around. I'm not going to hurt your little girlfriend."

"Don't touch her and look elsewhere if I'm there." he ordered him.

The boy glared at him but left the kitchen. Jeremiah grabbed Eva by the waist and dragged her out of the room.

"Come on, I'll take you home. Come on."

She put an arm around his neck giggling silly. She had trouble walking straight.

"You're so sweet, Jere. So sweet."

"And you, you're so drunk." he replied, still a little amused.

He helped the brunette get into his car and set off.

"My mother is harassing me to retake my license but I don't want to." muttered Eva, half asleep. "I don't like driving."

"You don't like driving?" Jeremiah repeated.

"No. It scares me. It makes me think about Jimmy."

Jeremiah stayed silent. He knew Eva was in the car when the accident happened. She stayed in the hospital for a few days but came out with only a few bruises and scratches.

But Jimmy was sitting on the side of the car that collided with the truck. It had hit him head-on. He died almost instantly.

"Sometimes, I wish I could go back in time so we can swap places." she whispered, pulling her legs up to her chest. "If I had been sitting in his place, he would still be here."

"But you wouldn't." Jeremiah said.

"Exactly." she sighed, closing her eyes. "I would be dead and he would be alive and everything would be better."

"Hey, no, Eva, don't say that." Jeremiah ordered. "You can't say that. We can't lost you. I can't lost you. You know how I would have been if you were dead? I would be devastated! I need you, and your family needs you, we all need you, okay? Don't say things like that."

"I just... miss him, so much." she replied in a low voice and a tear rolled down her cheek.

"I know. I know." Jeremiah grabbed her hand. "I miss him too."

They didn't speak until the end of the trip. When he parked in front of the house, he realized that Eva had fallen asleep. Her cheeks were still wet from the few tears that had flowed. Jer slipped an arm behind her back and one under her legs to carry her. He tried to enter the house as discreetly as possible. Luckily everything was off, which meant the mothers and their friends were sleeping.

He climbed the stairs trying not to make too much noise and entered Eva's room. He put her down gently on her bed and wanted to pull away but he couldn't. He realized that she had grabbed his shirt and was holding him against her.

"Jer..." she whispered.

"Yeah?"

"I love you. I love you so much." she muttered to him, half awake.

"I love you too."

     She smiled softly.

"No. You don't understand." she whispered. "I'm in love with you. So in love with you."

"You're drunk, you don't know what you're saying." he giggled nervously.

"Yeah, I know. Believe me, I know..." she chuckled before closing her eyes.

"We'll talk about this when you'll be awake and sober, Vava." he told her, caressing her cheek.

     She giggled.

"You know, I always pretend I hate it when you call me that but I don't. I love it."

"That's good." he whispered to her, stroking her hair. "Try to get some sleep, okay?"

"Okay." she mumbled letting him go.

He straightened up and went to get her a basin in case she wanted to vomit and a glass of water which he put next to her bed. He approached her again and took off her shoes to make her more comfortable before pulling the blanket over her.

He then noticed the familiar-looking hoodie which was lying on the chair next to her nightstand. He took it in his hands. He liked the way Eva had kept it and the way it looked on her.

He put it back on the chair with a small smile. He cast a last glance at the young girl who was sleeping peacefully and turned off the light.

"Good night, Vava." he whispered before leaving the room.

and if i only could, i'd make a deal with god
