13 | The biege man
Fairy ended up following me to the apartment building claiming she wants to help me even though I knew she had some concealed ulterior motive.
Tommy sent me a message saying I would be staying on the 23rd floor. The top floor, a penthouse!
I couldn't help but wonder if the quote 'Bad things happens for a good reason' was indeed true because the past weeks had been horrible. From Saya's death to Mom's stroke to taking a job at a strip club, now getting a complimentary penthouse, and earning shit loads of money? Was that even a good thing?
It was late at night and the place was too big. We decided to wait till the next morning and employ a cleaning service to do the cleaning up while we go shopping for Home decor and Clothes.
"This place is expensive!" She gasped as we stepped outside the penthouse. The house was already getting cleaned as we left.
"The club must really have money," I mumbled to myself as we got into the elevator. "They do," Fairy said. I didn't know she heard me.
"Do you know how many politicians and rich business tycoons go to the backroom? The ones that don't throw money at strippers but wire the money to Tommy? Yeah, the club has money," She added. "I also heard that the 'face of Oniria' gets paid 10x the amount of money we get. And we get paid a lot of money so..." She trailed off.
The elevator halted at the 19th floor and opened. The beige man that was staring at me at the club stepped in with a little girl wearing a school uniform in his hands. The girl was a carbon copy of him.
Definitely his daughter.
We made eye contact and I caught a glimpse that he was just as surprised as I was to see him. He quickly averted his gaze but I was still shamelessly staring at him. A man came to a strip club when he had a wife and daughter? What kind of man was he?
"I saw you dancing and you are a really good dancer. With a good body too. Scratch that, with an amazing body. Even Siren didn't look as good as you did," Now, she was just flattering me as she continued the conversation.
Was she Desperately trying to get on my good side or she was just being honest?
"Hmm, Did you know Siren?" I questioned as I averted my gaze from the beige man to Fairy.
"We all know her, don't you know her? A day didn't pass by at the club without her name getting mentioned. But yeah I haven't seen her in real life, she was already dead when I started working there. Two years ago. That dead woman is literally everywhere but I'm happy now that you'll be replacing her. No more lingering spirit," She concluded with a chuckle.
She was right. I'd seen more Siren pictures in the span of one week than I peeked at my face in the Mirror. Even the penthouse had big picture frames of her everywhere, I understood that she used to stay there but still.
None of her belongings were there, only the frames. The pieces of furniture were covered with white sheets and the balcony chairs were brought inside the penthouse.
"Whoa! I like your shoes! Did you just move here?" The little girl looked at me and asked. She was very cute and looked innocent. I bet she didn't know how much of a disgusting person her father might be.
"Thank you. Yes, I just moved here, on the top floor. My name is Wraya, what's yours?" I bent down to her level and said. "Wow! I like your name. My name is Reality but my Daddy calls me Cactus or Death Trap," She gave the answer.
I opened my mouth to speak but nothing came out. I was shocked. Who calls their Kid, Deathtrap? That was a very scary name to call a cute little girl.
"I-I You have a very Unique name, Reality. Or should I call you Cactus?" I questioned as the elevator arrived on the first floor and opened.
"Let's go, you're late for school," The beige man pulled his daughter out before she could answer. He didn't seem to like me talking to his daughter. "Yes!" She yelled as she gets pulled away by her dad.
"Bye Cactus!" I yelled back but they were already gone.
"Why did he do that? He could have waited for her to finish talking to you. Late for school? It's not like she's in high school or something. But then again, most good-looking men are rude so I'm not surprised," Fairy sighed.
"Factual! But I know why he probably didn't want his daughter to talk to me," I said as we stepped out of the elevator. "I saw him at the club. My first night there, he was staring at me," I added.
"So bro is probably cheating on his wife? Or what was he doing at a strip club? Did he not want his daughter to speak to you because you're a stripper?" She scoffed. It came out like a statement more than a question.
T A E H Y U N G
Honestly, after what happened at Dabin's birthday party, the thoughts of Reality needing a mom crowded my head with Glitter and the mission slipping in every now and then. Although Reality said she didn't want a mom, I felt like she needed it.
At night I leave for missions, Reality stays home alone all night and I didn't like it. If she had a mom, I wouldn't get so worried sometimes thinking something bad had happened to her.
She was late for school but it was not like it mattered. She was just in elementary school, not high school or college.
As the elevator opened, I was greeted by the face of the woman who refused to leave my head. For a second, I thought I was hallucinating but when Reality pulled my hand, I realized that it was real.
What was she doing there?
I broke eye contact with her and stepped in, refusing to look at her but I could feel her staring at me. I had no idea what was in her mind as I wasn't looking at her.
"I saw you dancing and you are a really good dancer. With a good body too. Scratch that, with an amazing body. Even Siren didn't look as good as you did," I heard the girl standing beside her say.
They were chatting about Ecstasy.
"Hmm, Do you know Siren?" I heard Glitter asking. Was she asking me? Why would she ask me that?
"We all know her, don't you know her? A day didn't pass by at the club without her name getting mentioned. But yeah I haven't seen her in real life, she was already dead when I started working there. Two years ago. That dead woman is literally everywhere but I'm happy now that you'll be replacing her. No more lingering spirit," The other girl said and chuckled.
I scoffed mentally. Lingering spirit?
If Reality knew she was low-key hating on her mom, she'd pluck out her eyes with her spear.
The elevator was quiet for a second before I heard Reality's voice. "I like your shoes! Did you just move here?" She questioned.
"Thank you. Yes, I just moved here, on the top floor. My name is Wraya, what's yours?" So Glitter's real name was Wraya. I just stood there, listening to the conversation. My stomach churned in a good way as I heard her speak.
It shouldn't do that.
"Wow! I like your name. My name is Reality but my Daddy calls me Cactus or Death Trap," Reality Responded. The elevator went quiet for a second before Glitter or Should I say Wraya, spoke up. "I-I You have a very Unique name, Reality. Or should I call you Cactus?" She stuttered and questioned.
We reached the first floor and the elevator opened. Without waiting for Reality to answer back, I pulled her hands. "Let's go, you're late for school," I mumbled and walked out of the elevator with abnormal speed.
"Yes!" Reality yelled, replying to Wraya's question.
I kept walking faster than usual until we got to the car at the parking lot. "Daddy, why?" Reality asked as I fastened her seat belt in the car.
"As I said, you're late for school," I replied and closed the door. I turned around and got into the driver's seat. "But you said you didn't care that I was late for school before we got into the elevator," She said.
Busted!
