๐๐ก๐๐ฉ๐ญ๐๐ซ ๐ญ๐ก๐ซ๐๐: ๐๐ข๐ซ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐ฌ๐๐ฏ๐
๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐, the sun beaming into almost every window of the carpenters' apartment. erin had been up all morning, running errands and tidying up the apartment. the older carpenter was sat in the living room with a cup of tea in her hand. she had her glasses perched on the bridge of her nose so that the screen of the television would be clearer. she shook her head slightly as she gave the screen her full attention, seeing a certain vigilante that was cladded in red and blue clothing.
"that kid is gonna get themselves killed." erin mumbled.
in the room down the hall, two teens laid next to each other. donnie had been awake for about an hour, silently scrolling through social media on his phone as he continued to lay in bed. stevie on the other hand, was still sound asleep, little snores coming from her. donnie had tried his best to be quiet, knowing that she really needed the sleep. the window was wide open, letting the fall breeze blow in and cool the room. it also happened to let a fly in.
the fly buzzed around the room, getting closer and closer to the bed. once he heard the loud buzz in his ear, donnie simply waved his hand at it, going back to looking at his phone. but the fly kept on buzzing around the room. suddenly, stevie shot up from the bed and lunged her right hand forward, capturing the little fly between her index finger and thumb. the sudden movement made donnie sit up from his spot, all of his attention going to the girl. his eyes widened slightly at the sight of the fly in stevie's fingers, a bunch of question flashing through his mind.
"that's a fly, stevie." donnie mumbled, still surprised at the fact that she caught it.
the carpenter girl looked at the fly in confusion, watching as it tried to get free. she shook her head slightly, closing her eyes as she let the fly go. she rubbed her right hand against the blankets, immediately thinking of all the bacteria that could've been on the bug.
"how the hell did you catch a fly?" donnie then asked, his eyebrows knitted together, trying to wrap his head around it. "you were sound asleep. you were sleeping. you were snoring!"
stevie brought her other hand up to rub her eyes. "don't know."
"what the -" donnie started.
he was quickly interrupted by stevie jumping from the bed and onto the ceiling, the sound of a loud clatter being the reason why.
"- fuck. . ." donnie finished, looking up at his best friend, his mouth wide open.
stevie blinked to process what had just happened. her heart dropped once she realized that she was on the ceiling. . . actually on the fucking ceiling. she let her eyes scan over her hands and then over to the two stars that were on the ceiling.
"stevie. . ." donnie began again, slowly climbing off of the bed. "what's happening?"
"i - i don't know." stevie mumbled, trying to pull her hands off of the ceiling.
"well, get down."
"i'm trying!" stevie grumbled, still trying to pull her hands away. another loud clatter filled her ears, making a scowl appear on her face as she winced. "you don't hear that?"
"hear what?" donnie questioned, still trying to process what was happening.
another loud clattered sound filled her ears. "that fucking noise."
"stevie, there's nothing making any noise." donnie told her.
he then heard stevie wince, the girl still stuck on the ceiling. he looked around the room to see if there was anything making noise, his eyes landing on the blinds that were rattling because of the window being open. he quickly ran over to it, carefully slamming it shut.
"is - is that better?" he asked, looking back over to the girl.
"yeah."
and then suddenly, the curly haired girl was falling to the floor. she felt the air leave her lungs as her back came in contact with the floor. she rolled onto her side as she tried to suck in a breath, hearing footsteps quickly approach her. she looked up to see that it was donnie, a worried look on his face as he tried to help her up.
the door to the room quickly swung open, revealing a worried erin in the doorway. "what happened? i heard a loud thud."
"nothing." stevie gasped, letting donnie pull her up from the floor. "i just - i just fell from my bed."
"are you okay? do you need an ice pack?" erin quizzed, worry dripping from her tone.
"no, i'm okay." stevie reassured, sitting on her bed. " i just need to, uh, catch my breath."
"you sure?"
"yeah. i'm sure, ma. i'm okay." stevie nodded, sending the older woman a reassuring smile.
"okay."
donnie waited for erin to close the door, sending her a small smile. once the door was shut, he snapped his head towards his best friend, who was surprised that he didn't just give himself whiplash.
"you can stick to the fucking ceiling!" he exclaimed. "and - and you caught a fucking fly, stevie!"
"say it louder, don. i don't think my mother heard you." stevie scolded, still recovering from her fall.
"sorry. sorry." donnie quickly apologized, running his fingers through his hair. "it's just. . . a lot to process."
"you seriously didn't hear what i was hearing?" stevie questioned.
"no. but it was the wind blowing against the blinds." the watson boy answered, sitting beside her.
"it sounded like. . . fucking fireworks going off a foot away from me." stevie explained.
donnie didn't say anything, silently trying to think of how this could've happened. his eyebrows raised when he remembered the disgusting looking bump that was on stevie's neck the night before. he quickly pushed her head forward, making her release a grunt.
"what's happening?" she asked.
"remember last night, when i said that there was a bump on your neck?" donnie answered, moving stevie's messy hair away from her neck.
"yeah."
"well. . ." donnie started, seeing that the bump from the bug was no longer there. "it's not here anymore. hold on."
stevie felt the boy move the collar of her shirt back, reaching inside before he pulled his hand out. she winced as she felt something tug at her neck, watching as donnie put his hand out. her eyebrows knitted together when she saw a bug hanging from a string. or more like -
"that's a spider attached to a fucking web, stevie." donnie informed.
"i can see that, don." stevie mumbled, not exactly sure how to react.
"is this what bit you yesterday?" donnie questioned, continuing to examine the details of the spider.
"it has to be, right? i mean, it was attached to my neck." the shorter girl mumbled, looking at the spider as well.
it wasn't like one that she had seen before. it seemed to have had a bunch of colorful patterns on it. her mind then went back to what her dad had been studying in that storage unit and the tank that she had found. was this one of the spiders he was studying? could it have given her some abilities?
"oh, my god." donnie mumbled, realizing something. "you have the same abilities as spider-man."
"oh, god." stevie muttered, dragging her hand down her face.
"you can work with spider-man and save everyone's lives!" donnie exclaimed.
"don, please. shh."
"what?"
"i'm not working with spider-man."
"not yet, at least." donnie corrected, making stevie roll his eyes. "oh! we should tell the rest of the freaks and geeks!"
"no!" stevie immediately yelled.
"wha - why not?" the watson boy questioned, his face turning into a pout.
"i don't want them to freak out."
"how do you know they're gonna freak out?"
"because you're freaking out!"
"ned and peter are very different people."
stevie gave the boy a bored look, tilting her head slightly. "i'm still not telling them. and even if i want to, i don't wanna add peter into this mess. remember? he texted us yesterday saying that he got the september foundation grant."
"oh, yeah." donnie mumbled. "i wonder why he didn't tell us he applied for it."
stevie simply shrugged, bringing her hand up to rub her eyes.
"fine. we won't tell them. . . yet!" donnie started. "but until we do, we're gonna see what else you can do."
the carpenter girl groaned as she plopped back onto her bed. "do we have to, don?"
"yep. because if we don't, a lot of chaos can happen like this morning." donnie reasoned.
stevie let out a huff, knowing that he wasn't gonna let this go. she also knew that he was right. a lot could go wrong if they don't see what else she could do. could she shoot webs out of her wrists like spider-man could? did she have super strength like him? there was only one way to find out, right?"
"okay, fine." she mumbled.
this made the long haired boy shoot up from her bed and flare his arms, letting out a bunch of yells and screams from excitement. but him being the clumsy boy that he was, lost his footing and fell to the floor. a grunt left his lips as stevie sat up from her bed, a small smile on her lips.
"ha! that's what you get!" she laughed, getting up from the bed with her hand sticking out. "now let's get ready so we can go eat."
"yeah, good idea." he muttered, letting stevie pull him up.

๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ day, stevie and donnie being sat in a small coffee shop. the curly haired girl was helping the latter with his math homework since that was the one subject that he was horrible in. while she helped him, she explained everything about her dad experimenting on spiders, which is probably how she got the abilities in the first place.
"so he kept that from you and your mom?" donnie questioned as he tried his best to answer an equation.
"no. i think my mother knew in a way, but not fully." stevie answered, looking out the window of the coffee shop.
"he got fired before the downfall of s.h.i.e.l.d., right?" donnie asked, looking up from the equation as he put his pencil down.
"yeah." stevie nodded.
"do you think it was because of his work or because he knew something that he wasn't supposed to?" the long haired boy then asked, trying to put the pieces together.
"i think if he knew something, they would've killed him instead of firing him." stevie pointed out. "or at least brainwashed him. i don't know how all of that works."
"okay, so you can't make webs, right?"
"we established that yesterday, don."
after they left for the morning, the two spent all day trying to figure out what stevie can and can't do. one of the things they tried was seeing if she could produce her own webs like they thought spider-man could. but that just resulted in stevie getting herself hurt and going home with a bunch of bruises scattering her body.
"so. . . do you think your dad tried to do something with that? like, making his own webs?" donnie quizzed.
"i don't know."
"didn't black widow and nick fury leak a bunch of files from s.h.i.e.l.d.'s database or some shit like that?"
"yeah."
"so do you think that they would still have some files on your father's experiments?"
a smile tugged at the corner of stevie's lips, her eyes shifting over to her best friend. "you know, you're a fucking genius."
"yeah, right." donnie mumbled.
"i'm serious, don!" stevie exclaimed, making a bunch of people in the coffee shop to turn and look at her. "you don't give yourself enough credit."
donnie simply shrugged, picking his pencil back up so that he could go back to solving the equation. stevie picked up her cup of tea, taking a sip before she placed it back down. she watched donnie carefully, watching as he started to solve the problem. she smiled slightly as he started to do the steps to solving it correctly, being able to see what he was writing, even if it was upside down. but then the sound of a guy screaming made her head snap towards the window, her smile dropping.
donnie noticed the action, making him look back up at the girl. "what's wrong?"
"something's going on." she mumbled, still looking out the window.
"what?" donnie asked.
stevie continued to listen to what was going on, hearing a bunch of laughter and grunting. it was definitely more than one person, it sounding like punches and kicks were being thrown. "i - i think someone's getting jumped."
"go." donnie said.
"what? i can't go! sp - spider-man can handle it." stevie quickly shot back.
"spider-man has been m.i.a all weekend and no one knows where he's at." donnie explained. "you know what's happening and you can't just let it happen, stevie."
stevie knew he was right, but there was other factors to consider. "o - okay. but i don't have nothing to cover my face, don. people can't know who i am."
"uh. . ." donnie started, looking down at their clothing to see if there was something that she could cover her face with. he then remembered something. "oh! i have a t-shirt in bag!"
he quickly turned around to reach into his bag that was hanging from his chair. he eventually found the shirt, quickly handing it to the girl.
"wha - don." stevie mumbled as she grabbed the shirt.
"go." donnie repeated.
stevie looked at the shirt in her hands before she shot up from her seat and left the coffee shop. donnie watched with a small smile as his best friend ran past the window and down the block. the carpenter girl quickly wrapped the shirt around her face, the hole that was meant to wrap around the neck was revealing her brown eyes. she tied the long sleeves in the back so that the shirt wouldn't slip off. she continued to run, running past an alleyway. she quickly backtracked, seeing that there was a group of teenage boys kicking another one on the ground.
"hey!" stevie yelled, her voice cracking. she quickly cleared her throat before she stepped into the alleyway. "hey! get away from him!"
this made the group of boys stop what they were doing, turning to face the girl. the boy on the ground looked at her as well, a bruise started to form under his left eye as blood seeped from his mouth.
"why don't you just mind your business, lady?" one of the boys yelled, a small smile on his face.
"i will when you leave him alone." stevie shot back, raising her eyebrows.
"oh! what, because spider-man isn't here, you're gonna take his place?" a boy with a baseball cap questioned, taking a step forward. "we can hear your voice. you're nothing but a girl who's gonna get hurt. go home."
the boys turned around to finish what they were doing, but stevie quickly grabbed a plastic bottle from the ground and threw it at the one with the baseball cap. she smiled under her makeshift mask once the bottle hit the boy in his head, making his cap fall to the ground. she watched as the boys turned back around, all of them glaring at her.
"aw, is someone upset?" she asked in a baby's tone, tilting her head slightly.
"leave before you get hurt." another boy told her.
stevie looked down, seeing that there was another plastic bottle on the ground. damn, people just love to litter, huh? she stepped on the top of it, making the bottle fly up in the air. she caught it with ease before she threw it at the boy, making his head fly back.
"all right. you asked for it, bitch." the boy who had the baseball cap said.
"wow, is that how you talk to a lady?" stevie sarcastically asked, watching as he ran up to her.
he swung his right hand at her, the curly haired girl easily dodging it before she punched him in the nose, hearing a crunch. she quickly grabbed his arm and swung him around, letting his arm go which made him slam into the brick wall. she then felt her something telling her that she was about to get hit, feeling the hairs on her body shoot up. she quickly hopped onto the brick wall, grabbing the arm that was lunging towards her. she then pulled it forward, making the boy do a front flip, a grunt leaving his mouth as he hit the ground. she then jumped back to the ground to see that there was another boy, ready to fight the girl even though he just saw stevie beat the living crap out of his friends.
"are you gonna make a move, or?" stevie questioned, waving her hands around.
she watched as the boy reached into his pocket, a small smile on his face. he pulled out a pocket knife that was very much longer than the legal length, making stevie's heart drop. but of course it being stevie, she had to make a joke.
"oh, my god. is - is that a knife? is that a real knife?" she quizzed, putting her hands up in fear.
"yes. it's a knife." the boy answered.
"anything but knives. please! anything but knives. it's - it's my weakness." stevie pleaded, slowly going onto her knees.
"you should've minded your business." the boy mumbled, stepping closer to her.
stevie quickly grabbed a small rock from the ground, throwing it at the boy. this made him stumble back, the carpenter girl quickly hopping onto her feet and making her way towards him. she swiftly grabbed the switchblade in his hand before she easily snapped it in half. she then punched the boy's face before she punched him in his stomach. she watched as the boy fell to his knees, holding his stomach with a pained expression. she then looked over to the small boy that was originally getting jump, examining his features. he had to be around her age, but he was smaller than average size.
"why don't you go home and put some ice on your face?" stevie suggested, looking back down at the boy she had just punched in the gut. "and your stomach. and help your jackass friends while you're at it."
he quickly got up from the ground, stumbling over towards the two boys that were starting to get up from the ground. "let's go before she kills us!"
stevie watched as the three boys ran out of the alleyway, a small smile on her face. she then turned back to the beaten boy on the ground. she walked over to him, gently pulling him.
"that was awesome!" he exclaimed, a small smile on his face. "th - thank you! those guys are always picking on me."
"well, don't let it affect you, okay?" stevie told him, combing her fingers through his hair. "one day, they're all gonna be working for you, okay?"
the boy frantically nodded his head. "yeah. uh, what's - what's your name?"
"my - my name?" stevie repeated, her eyebrows raising under her makeshift mask.
"yeah. are you - do you work for spider-man?" the boy questioned.
"what? no, no. i don't work for him. i just. . . have the same abilities as him." stevie quickly explained, shrugging her shoulders. "but back to my name. . . it's, uh, it's. . ." she quickly looked around, trying to see what she could use as a fake name.
she didn't want the name spider involved in her alias, not wanting to be affiliated with spider-man himself. she then looked down at her attire, seeing that she was wearing all black. she then thought about how all of this started with a venomous spider that was created by her father.
"remnant." she answered, smiling under her mask.
"why that?" the boy asked.
"because i'm the remaining factor of someone else's legacy." stevie answered.
"that's dope." the boy nodded, a smile on his face. "my name's dante."
"nice to meet you, dante." stevie nodded, holding out her hand for him to take. "i'll walk you home, okay? make sure those asshats try anything else."
"thanks." dante said.
with that, the two started to walk out of the alleyway. she pulled her phone out, quickly putting in the passcode before she went to messages.
STEPHANOPOULOS๐๐ฝ
hey, i'm walking someone home, okay?
making sure that nothing else happens to him.
i'll meet u back at mines.
"you don't have a suit?" dante asked as they walked down the street.
"uh, no. not yet. i'm working on it." stevie answered, shoving her phone back into her pocket.
"well, you should, like, have black included somehow since that's what you're wearing now." dante suggested.
"that's a good suggestion, dante. thank you." stevie said.

๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐ side of the building that her bedroom window was on. she looked around to see if there was anyone around before she walked over to the brick wall. she started to slowly climb up it, wondering why she wasn't struggling as much as the day before. she continued to crawl up the side of the building, a small smile on her face as she approached her window. she peaked inside, seeing that donnie was sat at his desk, watching youtube videos on her laptop. she gently slid the window open, and climbed through it. she then slid the window closed as donnie turned to look at her.
"well, how was your day?" he questioned, seeing how dirty and messed up her clothes were.
stevie quickly slipped the t-shirt off her face, making her hair fly everywhere as she threw it towards her best friend. "it was fucking amazing, don! i - i can't really swing anywhere yet, so i was jumping from rooftop to rooftop. and then i like saved a woman from getting hit by a car. and then i tripped over a ball in central park and fell in the mud. but it was great, don."
"i'm glad that you enjoyed it." donnie smiled.
"i need a suit." stevie said as she plopped onto her bed. "i was thinking about black, gray, and maroon as the colors. and obviously we don't have the materials to make one right now, but at some point that would be dope."
"yeah, that would be." donnie mumbled. "maybe that's something we can work on. i mean, spider-man is wearing a sweatsuit. we could get one and add flare to it or something."
"i'm down for that." stevie smiled. "you wanna go shopping after school, tomorrow?"
donnie smiled, picking up on what she was putting down. "hell, yeah." the watson boy then got up from the chair and grabbed stevie's laptop before he plopped down next to her. "okay, so back to the conversation we had in the coffee shop."
"oh! did you find anything?" she questioned as she combed her fingers through her hair.
"yeah. you're dad had a whole formula on how to make what he called 'web fluid'." donnie explained as he scrolled through a website that carried the old s.h.i.e.l.d. files. "but it looks like it needs to be shot out of something, he called it a web shooter. there's nothing here on how to make it, so we're gonna have to come up with that on our own."
"okay." stevie mumbled, letting her eyes scan over the formula to see what she needed. "we can get all of that from the school."
"we're gonna steal from the school now?" donnie questioned.
"well, i don't know where else to get them, smart ass." stevie shot back. "and the other stuff for the web shooter is probably in the old box that i got from my dad's storage unit."
"okay, cool. so now all we need is a name."
"oh, i got one all ready. i'm remnant." stevie told him, a small smile on her face.
"that's sounds cool. why - why remnant?" donnie asked.
"all of this happened because of my dad. i'm a remaining factor of my dad's legacy." the carpenter girl explained, a proud smile on her face.
"that's dope." donnie nodded.
"thanks."
