โ๐๐, ๐ ๐๐๐.โ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐, frozen in her spot.
as if it couldn't get any worse, the boat started to slowly split into two, the metal groaning as it did so. stevie looked around, hearing the people on the ferry scream in terror. her heart ached at that, knowing that this only happened because of her and peter. they had caused all this damage.
"oh, my god! what do we do?!" peter shouts as he looked over at stevie. "karen, give me an x-ray of the boat, and target all the strongest points." it's silent for a few seconds before he turned to look at stevie. "stevie, i'm gonna try to put the boat together. can you help the people?" stevie didn't answers, still looking at the damage that they had done. "stevie!"
"what? yeah! yeah, i can do that. sorry." the carpenter girl answered quickly, being snapped out of her thoughts.
peter nodded, shooting a web towards one of the cement beams before he took off. stevie sucked in a nervous breath, trying to get herself under control. sure, they had caused this mess, but they could also fix it. she jumped onto the second level, flying through the air to see if anyone needed her help. her eyes landed on a kid that was really close to the edge, losing his balance as he almost went over. she swung over towards him, catching him just as he was about to fall. she swung back, landing on one side before she gently placed the kid down.
she took off again, noticing that everyone was already at safe points on the boat. well, as safe as it could be with it splitting in two. she caught side of peter, the boy shooting a bunch of different webs to the cement beams before he landed on the third level. she landed on the other half of the second level, looking at the webbing mess that was made by peter parker. it looked like it was working, the two halves of the boat no longer movie further apart from one another.
"yeah, spider-man and remnant!" a man shouted from somewhere, cheers quickly appearing.
but the cheers were interrupted by the webs snapping. peter swung off the balcony again, trying to reconnect all the webs again. stevie swallowed the rock that appeared in her throat as she shot a web to the wall of one half of the ferry. she then jumped off and shot another web towards the wall of the other half, leaving her hanging in the air. she sucked in a few deep breaths, knowing that this was about to hurt. but she had to at least try.
"give me strength." she mumbled while looking up at the sky.
she then started to pull at the webs, a strained scream leaving her lips from the aching that immediately appeared in her arms. she continued to pull at the webs, moving her hands towards her body to pull the two halves of the ferry closer together. peter had ended up stopping what he was doing, seeing what stevie was doing. he had also seen how it was sorta working, looking at the girl in astonishment.
stevie continued to pull at the webs, ignoring the pain that was making it's way through her body. but then, she felt the pulling get easier as the two halves of the ferry started to get closer at a faster pace. "what the hell?" she mumbled.
she was slowly lowered to the second level of the boat, looking around with furrowed eyebrows. peter appeared next to her, the both of them sharing a confused look. they then looked towards the windows, stevie's heart dropping once she saw the shiny red and gold suit of iron man peering through the window. she stepped back as she suddenly disappeared, her invisible ability kicking in without her permission.
"hi, spider-man." the snappy voice of tony stark greeted. "band practice, was it? and i don't know where your buddy remnant went, but tell her that i'm glad that she's back in action." he finished.
stevie felt herself gulp, looking at peter. and although the parker boy couldn't see her, he knew that she was still standing right next to him. tony continued to pushed the boat back together, with the help of mini rocket blasters that attached themselves to the sides of the boat. the cheers that were celebrating spider-man and remnant quickly started celebrating iron man, stevie watching as the red and gold suit moved away from the window. peter went after him, wanting to see if there was anything he could do to help. but stevie didn't move, slowly coming out of her invisible state as she went go sit down on one of the benches. her body was screaming at her for attempting to pull the two halves together.
she dropped her head off the back of the bench, knowing that her and peter were in a world of trouble.

๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐ the edge of a building as they watched the ferry being towed to the terminal by smaller boats. stevie had her mask off, stray curls framing her face as she looked down to the ground. she and peter decided not to say anything, knowing that there was nothing they could say to make each other feel better in that moment. peter was in more of a negative mood, having let the one man that he wanted to impress down. all he wanted to do this whole time was be like tony stark.
the sound of jets was quickly approaching, making stevie turn to see iron man hovering behind them. she immediately turned back to look at the scenery, wanting to be in this little moment of silence for a few for more seconds. clearly, tony had other plans.
"previously on peter and stephanie screw the pooch." he starts, making stevie furrow her eyebrows. how the hell did he know her name? "i tell you two to stay away from this. instead, you hacked a multimillion-dollar suit so you could sneak around behind my back doing the one thing i told you not to do."
"is everyone okay?" peter questioned.
"no thanks to you two." tony answered, a pang appearing in stevie's chest at those words.
stevie looked back down, wondering if she would survive the fall from the height. i mean, it might hurt, but she'd heal if she broke anything. she'd rather do that than be scolded by tony stark.
"no thanks to us?" peter repeated, grabbing his mask as he turned around on the ledge and hopped down. stevie turned around on the ledge too, staying seated as she watched peter walk towards the iron man suit. "those weapons were out there and we tried to tell you about it, but you didn't listen. none of this would've happened if you had just listened to us!" he yells out, letting out a bitter chuckle. "if you even cared, you'd actually be here."
suddenly, the iron man mask snaps open, revealing the face of tony stark instead of the hallow inside of the suit. the rest of the suit opens up, allowing tony to step out of it and towards peter. stevie suddenly disappears without permission, her heart jumping into her throat as she watched peter step back. stevie seemed to pop back in her spot, the carpenter girl looking down to make sure.
tony sniffled as he looked over at stevie, taking a mental note on the fact that she had just vanished and reappeared. his eyes then landed back on peter, slowly walking towards him. "i did listen, kid. who do you think called the fbi, huh? do you know i was the only one who believed in you? everyone else said i was crazy to recruit a 14-year-old kid."
"i'm 15." peter corrected.
"no! this is where you zip it, alright? the adult is talking!" tony exclaimed, making a zipping motion with his hand. "what if somebody had died tonight? different story, right? cause that's on you. and if you died, i feel like that's on me. i don't need that on my conscience." he finished, his tone a lot softer.
"yes, sir. i'm sorry." peter tried, his voice cracking.
"sorry doesn't cut it." tony whispered.
"i - i understand." peter continued. "i just - i just wanted to be like you."
stevie looked down at her mask in her hands, the lenses on it staring right back at her. she felt her chest ache once those words left peter's mouth, hearing how defeated and desperate he sounded.
tony nodded, looking out at the scenery before he looked back at the younger boy in front of him. "and i wanted you to be better."
peter looked down in shame before he looked back at stevie. the curly haired girl could see the hurt on his face, an apologetic one on her own. she felt bad that they had both caused the damage but he was the main one getting scrutinized for it.
"okay, it's not working out. i'm gonna need the suit back." tony then said, making the two vigilantes look back at him.
"for how long?" peter questioned.
"forever." tony mumbled.
"no." peter shook his head.
"yeah, that's how it works." tony nodded.
"no, no. please. please."
"let's have it."
"you don't understand. th - this is all i have. i'm nothing without this suit." peter admits, making the ache that was in stevie's chest deepen.
tony takes a step closer to peter, pointing a finger at him. "if you're nothing without this suit, then you shouldn't have it, okay? god, i sound like my dad."
"i don't have any other clothes." peter informed.
"okay, we'll sort that out."

๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ with peter to the apartment building that they lived in. her mask was back on her head while peter was walking in a i survived my trip to nyc t-shirt and some pink pajama pants with little taxi cabs on them. she felt bad that she still had her suit (given the fact that tony didn't make it), feeling like she was rubbing it in his face. when they had gotten to their building, they stopped, knowing that stevie couldn't exactly go inside or people will know where she lived and who she was.
"a - are you okay?" stevie stuttered, even if she already knew the answer.
"yeah." peter nodded, turning to look at her. stevie could see how glossy his eyes were, knowing that he was trying to hold in the tears that were begging to be let out.
"peter -" stevie started.
"i think i'm gonna head up, okay?" peter interrupted, not in the mood for any pep talk.
"okay." stevie mumbled, watching the curly haired boy walk towards the building entrance.
she let out a sigh, looking up. she then looked around to make sure no one was watching. she then started to crawl up the side of the building, heading towards her window. once she got there, she climbed onto the fire escape before entering her room through the window that's been opened all day. it was dark in her room, the spiderling turning around to close the window. she then pulled her mask off her face, starting to unzip the suit as she walked more into her room. she froze when the light in the room came on, stevie seeing her mother sitting at her desk.
"stephanie fallon carpenter." erin mumbled, taking in her daughter's appearance.
"uh. . ." stevie breathed out, her brain deciding to reboot in that moment. her suit then slid off the upper half of her body, thanks to it being unzipped. "w - what are you doing here? i thought - you're supposed to be at work."
"it's nearly 8:00, stevie." her mother told her, watching as her daughter scramble to pull the remaining of her suit off. "i got off early because i didn't want you to spend the whole day by yourself. and when i do get home, you're not even here. i ended up calling the school, but they told me that you weren't there. and then i called donnie to ask if he knew where you were, but he didn't. then i did the same thing to ned and peter, and ned didn't know, but peter never picked up."
"i'm sorry." stevie tried before she ended up on the floor, having tripped over her suit.
"and then the thing with the ferry happened, and i was so worried, stevie! i thought something had happened to you! but it turns out that you - you're remnant?! th - this whole time, you've been lying to me this whole time?"
"i've only been lying because i knew you would've made me stop me!" stevie quickly reasoned, finally taking her suit from around her legs. she was left in her bra and some boy shorts.
"i wonder why i would make you stop, stevie! it's not like you're running around doing the most dangerous shit a person could do!" erin yelled, flailing her arms all over the place to show her frustration. erin then placed her head into her hands, sucking in a deep breath. "i can't. . . i can't do this again."
"what's that suppose to mean?" stevie questioned, looking up at her mom with furrowed eyebrows. "do what again?"
"this. this superhero bullshit." erin spat, tangling her fingers into her hair.
"ma, i don't know what means." stevie mumbled, shaking her head slightly.
erin took her hands away from her face, shaking her head as well. "it doesn't matter. are you hurt? are you okay?"
"physically, yes." stevie huffed out, laying back on the floor. she looked up at the ceiling with a small frown on her face. "mentally, no."
she heard her mother shuffling around for a few seconds before she felt her lay down next to her. "what's the matter, honey."
"it's just that. . ." stevie started, her eyes starting to water as she looked at the ceiling. "me and pe - spider-man wanted to help so bad, but we - we were the reasons why that ferry got cut in half. all of those people could've died, ma. and we wouldn't have been able to save them. and - and then tony stark showed up, and he was disappointed. and i don't even know the guy all that well, but listening to him yell at us. . ."
erin sucked in a breath, feeling her chest ache as she watched her daughter cry. she pulled stevie towards her, wrapping her arms around her. "look, i can't tell you anything about the hero stuff, stevie. your father was the person to do that. i honestly don't know how to help, sweetie."
stevie sniffled, feeling her mother wipe her cheeks. "i don't know what that means either, ma."
"i know." erin mumbled, a chuckle escaping her lips. she let silence fill the room, a thousand thoughts running wild in her mind. her daughter had been remnant for months, and she didn't know it. what kind of mother was she? "so. . . how did you even become remnant?"
"um." stevie started, sniffling again as she thought about the events that happened. she let out a teary chuckle. "remember when we went to go clean out dad's storage unit?"
"yeah." erin nodded.
"well, i guess one of the spiders he was experimenting on had managed to survive after all these years. it crawled on me somehow and bit me on the back of my neck." stevie explained, turning to look at her mother.
erin was quiet for a few seconds, retracing everything that happened on that specific day. "is that why you yelled out like that in the lobby? because the spider bit you?"
"yeah."
"huh." erin mumbled, trying her best to process all of the new found information. "look, i'm not gonna stop you from being remnant. i just. . . i just need you to promise me that you're gonna be safe out there and always try your best to make it back home."
"okay." stevie nodded.
"i'm serious, stevie." erin said, her voice stern. "i already lost your father. i can't lose you, too. you're all i have left."
stevie saw the look on her mother's face, seeing that she needed stevie to promise. "i promise, ma. i'm not going anywhere."
"good." erin mumbled, placing a gentle kiss to stevie's forehead.
the two continued to lay on the floor as silence fell over them again. they just stared up at the ceiling as they enjoyed each other's company, not needing to say anything. the peace was ruined by the sound of banging coming from the front door. stevie tilted her head back to look at her bedroom door, her eyebrows furrowing slightly.
"who the hell could that be at this time?" erin questioned, copying her daughter's actions of tilting her head back to look at the bedroom door.
stevie shifted away from her mother before she got up from the floor. "i think i know who." she mumbled, going over towards her bed to grab her t-shirt from earlier in the day before walking out of her room.
her phone had been on vibrate since she had left the apartment earlier, meaning that she hadn't been getting any calls or text. and since she had just been yelled at by her mother, the only other person that would be banging loudly on the door would be donatello watson. she opened the door with a smile, seeing her best friend in the hall with a panicked look on his face. before she could even say anything, the taller boy pulling her into a hug, his tense body relaxing.
"dude! i've been calling and texting you for hours!" he exclaimed as he placed his head on top of stevie's, kicking the door close with his foot. "i thought you got hurt, o - or that you died! i literally told you about leaving your phone on silent, stevie. i feel like my dad whenever i come home ten minutes later than usual!"
stevie could only laugh, wrapping her arms around donnie as he talked quickly. the long haired boy rocked them side to side for about thirty seconds, his grip on her only getting tighter and tighter. the sound of footsteps approaching them made the two teens pull away from once another, donnie's eyes widening when he had seen that erin had been home. he turned to look at stevie, panic quickly appearing on his face at the thought of having just revealed stevie's secret identity.
"calm down, don. she just found out." stevie told him, making the watson boy let out a loud breath of relief.
"oh, thank god. i thought i blew your cover." donnie breathed out, bringing a hand up to his chest.
"so. . . i'm gonna of out on a limb here and say that donnie isn't spider-man." erin said, making the two teens shaking their heads. erin nodded, going into thought. she then let out a gasp in realization. "is it peter?!"
"wha -" donnie and stevie let out in unison, their mouths hanging open.
"oh, my god! did he get bit by a spider, too?!"
"i will never understand how she figures things out so quickly." donnie mumbled, turning to look down at his curly haired best friend.
"same." stevie agreed. "okay, ma. listen to me. are you listening?"
"yeah." erin nodded before humming.
"you cannot, and i mean under any circumstances, tell may that peter is spider-man." stevie told her mother, making the older woman furrow her eyebrows. "she doesn't know, and i have a feeling that she won't take it as well as you did."
"yeah, okay. i won't tell her." erin promised.
stevie nodded, bringing a hand up to run through her curls. silence fell over the three for a few seconds, all of them looking at different spots in the apartment.
"do you guys wanna order food?" donnie then questioned, making the two carpenter ladies look at him.
"i'm starting to think that you only come here to get free food." stevie admitted, only earning a shrug from the long haired boy.
"sure, don. we can order food. let me just go get my phone." erin smiled, pulling out stevie's phone from her pants pocket before she threw it towards its owner, who caught it with ease. "uh, some girl names ellie kept texting you when you went to get the door." she informed before she turned and went into her room to retrieve her phone.
stevie looked down at her phone with flushed cheeks, embarrassed that her mother had saw her crush's contact name. she turned on her screen to see that there were a bunch of missed calls and texts notifications. most of them was the freaks and geeks group chat, ned and donnie's contact name taking turns in popping up. the other notifications were from donnie and her mother. but the most recent ones were from mj, a smile pulling at stevie's lips.
ellie๐

8:33pm
ellie๐
please, steph. i'm really starting to panic here.
8:34pm
stevie immediately unlocked her phone and went to messages. she felt bad for making mj worry about her, but she also felt this warm feeling appear in her chest knowing that the girl did worry for her.
steph๐
hi!
hey!
i'm so sorry for not answering, i didn't mean to worry you.
i am completely fine. i spent most of the day sleeping and didn't wake up until a few minutes ago. again, i'm so sorry for making you worry.
she felt donnie move closer to her, knowing that he was peering over her shoulder. "you're a nosy ass."
"yeah, i know. i also don't care." he mumbled, still looking over stevie's shoulder. "oh, she's texting back!"
ellie๐
oh, okay.
that's good.
i'm sorry for probably sounding like a lunatic.
i just care about you a lot.
steph๐
you didn't sound like a lunatic.
but thank you for caring about me.
i care about you a lot, too <3
"when the hell did all this flirting start between you two?" donnie questioned, making the carpenter girl look up at him.
she smiled slightly, turning her phone off. "uh, in washington, i guess. but i wouldn't call it flirting. more like. . ."
"it's definitely flirting." donnie interrupted her, a blank expression on his face as he looked down at her.
"hey, guys. may just called me and asked if i can go upstairs to talk." erin announced as she walked back over towards the two teen. "do you guys wanna stay here or?"
"i think we should go. peter's been having a rough day." stevie answered, earning a confused look from donnie. "i think i should let him tell it to you."
"well, then let's go." donnie mumbled.
"give me like thirty seconds. i gotta put some pants on." stevie mumbled, jogging back towards her room. she grabbed the sweats she was wearing earlier, quickly slipping them on before she slid her feet into some slippers. she then left her room, walking over towards her best friend and mother. "okay, i'm ready."
"that was definitely less than thirty seconds." donnie pointed out as he turned around and opened the door.
"enhanced speed, remember?" stevie reminded as the trio walked out of the apartment.
"wait, you have enhanced speed?" erin asked, closing the door behind her.
"yeah. she also has enhanced senses, enhanced strength. . . i don't know what else she has." donnie listed off while erin locked the door.
"i can turn invisible." stevie blurted out, making donnie look at her with wide eyes.
"since when?!"
"remember when me and peter felling into that river because the vulture flew us up in the air?" stevie asked, making erin's head snap towards her. donnie nodded, his eyes going up to the older woman as he wondered how she didn't give herself whiplash. "i turned invisible while he was flying us up in the air. i - i don't know how to control it just yet, but it only really happens when i'm scared or nervous."
"how come you've never told me about that?" donnie frowned.
"i'm sorry. can we go back to the part where the vulture flew you up in the air?" erin asked, shaking her head slightly as they walked towards the elevator.
stevie chuckled, starting to give a brief summary of what had happened. although it had been a rough day for both her and peter, a weird part of her was glad that her mother had find out. she was glad that she didn't have that part of her life to her mother anymore.
daij speaks!
i thought i wasn't gonna update any of my books today because i had a final and then had to write a long ass essay. but turns out i was wrong. i feel like this chapter is all over the fucking place because it honestly is. writing action sequences is so fucking hard, oh my god. also, i wanted to write erin and stevie because i wanted a meaningful scene after all that chaos that had happened.
i hope u guys enjoyed ๐ซถ๐ผ
