๐๐๐๐๐๐๐. ๐๐๐๐'๐ ๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ stevie notices, how silent it was. and for a moment, she thought that she was dead. she thought that the weight of the ceiling falling on her had crushed her to death. and at first, that had brought her some sort of peace. but then she remembered all the people that she had cared about. . . she had remembered her mother and how she would react to losing her daughter. the silence was quickly replaced with ringing, it being so loud that she was sure that her head was gonna explode. next came the pain, it being so unbearable that stevie had to suck in a breath to minimize it.
the carpenter girl slowly opened up her eyes, only to notice that she was still consumed in darkness. she went to go move, but another wave of pain shot through her body. it started from her toes, went up to her nose, and back down to her toes again. she couldn't exactly pinpoint where the pain was coming from, but she knew that it was because of the piece of debris that was on top of her. a weird part of her was grateful that she had landed on her back and not in a weird position under all the pieces of rubble. she could be in a much more uncomfortable position. she sucked in another breath when she felt another wave a pain appear, a whimper vibrating in her throat.
she looked down at the massive chunk of debris that was positioned on her stomach. she moved her arms, ignoring the burning feeling that immediately appeared as she did so. she grasped onto the edge of it, mentally preparing herself for how heavy it was gonna be. she counted down in her head before she attempted to move the piece of debris, a strained scream scratching at her throat as she struggled to move it. she kept on trying for a few seconds but gave up once she realized that the chunk of the ceiling wasn't going anywhere. she then went to move her leg, a pained scream immediately leaving her lips. she had found where the pain was coming from. and she didn't even know why her leg was in so much pain.
the worst thing about this whole situation is that she had no idea where peter was. she couldn't see more than five inches in front of her and her lungs and throat burned too much for her to attempt to scream. she screwed her eyes shut, feeling tears start to well up. her stomach churned at the thought of peter being dead underneath all of this rubble. all he wanted to do was prove himself, and this is where it got him. she choked on a sob, bringing her hands up to her face.
"i'm sorry." she sobbed, not sure who she was apologizing to. "i want. . . i want my mom. i want my mom. i wanna go home." she cried, her voice raising as more and more anxiety crawled up her spine. "s - someone, please! i just - i wanna go home! help! please. i don't wanna die. i don't wanna. . . i don't wanna die." she finished, her voice getting quiet.
"stevie!" she heard someone call, making her freeze. "stevie, where are you?!"
"p - peter?" she mumbled, sniffling slightly. hearing his voice bought so much relief. "hey! pete, i'm over here! i'm over here!"
"i'm coming, stevie!" peter yelled. "just keep yelling out!"
"i can't - i can't move! my leg is stuck! please help!" stevie called out.
it went silent for a few seconds, stevie thinking that peter had gone in the wrong direction. but when she heard the gigantic piece of cement move above her, she knew that she was wrong. she could hear peter grunting from the other side, the piece of rubble moving slowly but surely. and when he had finally gotten the piece out of the way, stevie was met with the bloodied face of peter parker.
"i found you. oh, my god." peter breathed out. "i'm gonna get this off you, okay?"
"yeah, okay." stevie nodded.
"okay." peter mumbled, grasping the chunk of ceiling before he started to push. stevie immediately let out another scream, making peter stop what he was doing. "what's wrong?"
"my - my leg." stevie muttered, ignoring the fact that she sounds like that guy from spongebob squarepants. "it's alright. just keep going."
"are you sure?" peter asked.
"yeah."
peter nodded, continuing to push the debris off of stevie, his heart aching at the way that she whimpering in pain. after a few more seconds, it was finally off her, the both of them releasing breaths of relief. peter was quick to move towards stevie, helping her sit up. he crouched down, ignoring the ache in his own body as he wrapped his arms around stevie.
"oh, my god. i thought i lost you." peter mumbled, placing his hand to the back of her head. "i thought i lost you. i thought that you died. i would've hated. . . i wouldn't be able to live with myself if you died."
"i'm okay, pete. i promise." stevie said as she let out an airy chuckle. she hugged him just as tight as he was, stuffing her face into his neck. "but. . . my leg is pretty fucked up."
peter pulled away, noticing that stevie's mask is ripped. "your mask, stevie."
the carpenter girl brought her hand up to her mask, feeling the fabric that was covering her fingers touch her cheek. "i'll fix it later. we have bigger issues to worry about. where's liz's dad?"
instead of giving a verbal answer, peter only looked up, making stevie turn around and follow his gaze. perched on the very edge of a billboard, adrian toomes was dressed in his vulture attire, his wings folded back exactly like a bird. stevie wondered what he was looking at, focusing on what could be in the distance. but then she saw the avengers tower, the outline of a plane being at the very top floor.
"are you able to walk?" peter questioned as he stood up, pulling the curly haired girl up with him.
"i'll manage." stevie mumbled, ignoring the wave of pain that appeared in her leg.
"good. because the plane just took off." peter pointed out. he then pulled his mask on, having a firm grip on stevie. "ready?"
"yeah." stevie nodded, mentally preparing herself for the amount of pain she was about to put herself through.
"okay. come on." peter said, starting to run.
stevie went to move, but a small scream left her mouth. she sucked in a breath as she moved forward, starting off with a slow limp, before she started to pick up her pace. soon enough she was at a full sprint, a small grimace on her face. she watched as peter shot out two webs before he pulled on them, sending him flying through the air. she did the same, trying to catch up with the boy. the both of them landed on the billboard liz's dad had just taken off from. peter had jumped off while shooting another web, it quickly attaching to the vulture's wings. stevie shot out a web as well, it doing the same thing as peter's. she felt some relief when she started to move through the air, not having any more pressure on her leg anymore.
she quickly climbed up the web, catching up to peter quickly. liz's dad soared through the air, the two web heads right behind him. the plane was a few meters in front of them, it slowly starting to to blend in with the clouds. stevie looked down, immediately realizing how small the city below them was getting. that made her tighten her grip on her web, screwing her eyes shut. soon enough, the vulture had came up under the plane, somehow grabbing onto the bottom of the of it. because of that and the wind, both stevie and peter started to bump under the bottom of the plane.
"oh, my god! oh, my god!" peter exclaimed before he placed a hand onto the bottom of the plane, letting go of his web as he stuck himself into place.
stevie had a little more difficulty doing that, the wind blowing her a few feet down before she was able to stop herself. she looked to where the vulture was, watching as his wings slowly folded themselves around him to block out the powerful wind. peter had been crawling towards the wings, trying his best not lose his grip on the plane. stevie started to follow him, a groan leaving her lips every time she moved her leg. peter started to pull at the wings, needing a way in so that they could stop toomes. stevie joined him, pulling at the wings in hopes that they would just fly right off. while they were pulling, a drone took itself out from the suit before it started to move away towards from the plane.
"why the hell does everyone have drones?" stevie questioned in a hushed voice, still pulling at the wings.
"i'm gonna try to kick it!" peter yelled, stevie barely hearing him due to the wind.
the parker boy quickly rearranged himself so that his back was to the bottom of the plane, quickly bringing his foot up before he brought it back down. stevie smiled when she felt the wings budge a little, a chuckle escaping her lips. she moved back, letting peter finish doing what he was doing. he continued to kick the wings, it starting to slowly move. and just as stevie thought that he had it, the wings dropped from the plane, a familiar silhouette being attached to them.
"oh, boy." she mumbled, watching as he fell a few meters before he caught himself.
"stevie, let's go!" peter exclaimed, gaining the curly haired girl's attention.
the both of them climbed to the side of the plane, nearly losing their grip. stevie tried not to focus on the sound of the vulture's wings flying around her and peter, not wanting to get distracted and lose her grip.
"just a typical homecoming. . ." peter started, a grunt interrupting him as he climbed up the side of the plane. he looked back to make sure stevie was right behind him. ". . . on the outside of an invisible jet - ah!" he continued, screaming when the wind blew him to the side. ". . . fighting my former crush's dad."
"yep. . . typical homecoming." stevie nodded, turning her head when she heard alarms start to go off in her head.
her eyes widened, seeing toomes coming right at her and peter. she ducked down, kinda curling in on herself once she had realized that one of his wings was wedged into the side of the plane and was heading right towards her. once the terrible sound of the wing scraping against the plane disappeared, she straightened herself out, turning around to see that peter was now hanging from the vulture's wings by a web. peter quickly shot out another web, it attaching to the plane. that seemed to have stopped the vulture from going anywhere for a few seconds. but the panel that the web was attached to quickly came lose, sending the vulture back while peter was heading straight towards the plane's turbines.
"oh, god." stevie mumbled, moving as fast as she could before she started to shoot webs towards the inner turbine since that's the one that it looked like peter was going to go in it.
the curly haired boy had the same idea, shooting webs at the turbine to try and get it to stop moving. stevie's heart dropped when she had seen peter go into the turbine. she didn't have time to process that, the vulture quickly hitting the outer turbine. his wing hooked itself onto it, the turbine breaking it apart before smoke finally appeared. the vulture quickly got pulled back by the strong winds while the turbine blew up, filling the air with smoke.
"whew!" stevie heard peter exclaim, making her turn to look at him. "i can't believe that worked."
on cue, the turbine detached itself from the plane. stevie thanked the heavens above when she realized that the webs that her and peter had shot out was keeping it from falling. peter quickly grabbed ahold of the plane, letting go of the turbine just as the webs snapped. peter climbed to the top of the plane, pulling stevie up along with him. immediately, the vulture appeared, dragging his left wing along the plane in attempt to hurt both of the spiderlings. peter quickly let go of stevie, the both of them moving out of the way. they had lost their grip on the plane for a few seconds, quickly sticking themselves back on.
"this would be so much better if we wasn't so far up." stevie mumbled as she placed her head onto the plane, needing to take a breather.
her small breather was quickly interrupted by the sound of scraping, making her look up. the vulture had circled back around, this time dragging his metallic boots along the plane. both stevie and peter had let go of the plane, letting the wing push them back a few feet. they quickly placed their hands back down, sticking to the surface. stevie looked back, noticing that they were getting a little close to the giant turbine that was right at the back of the plane. the vulture repeated his actions, letting his boots scrape against the surface in attempts to heard the two vigilantes. both of them let go once again, neither one of them not being able to catch themselves this time. stevie flew back into the giant turbine, hitting her head along the side of it. her ears filled with ringing as her sight blurred, not being totally aware of what was happening.
peter looked at her, noticing that she wasn't trying to catch herself. he quickly moved towards the top of the turbine, shooting out a web towards stevie. once he had seen that it had attached to the carpenter girl, he started to pull her in, making sure to keep a firm grip on her. once he was able to wrap his arms around her, he held her close, turning around.
"i got you. you're okay." peter mumbled, looking forward. his heart dropped when he saw that they were losing altitude. "oh, my god." he let out, seeing how close new york city was getting. "stevie, i need your help."
"with what?" she asked, slowly gaining her senses back.
"just follow my lead!" he exclaimed before he shot out a web to one of the wings, it attaching itself to the aileron. stevie copied his actions, looking at the boy closely. "now, pull!"with that, the two vigilantes pulled on their webs, causing the plane to turn and go around all of the tall buildings. "please turn! please turn!" peter pleaded, pulling on the web like his life depended on it.
but then both webs snapped, sending them flying back along the turbine. peter landed on the other wing of the plane, noticing the fact that they were heading straight towards luna park. stevie had managed to grab ahold of the turbine, seeing the same thing that peter had been seeing. she didn't have time to react when she felt peter pull on her arm, making her drop onto the the wing he was on. he placed himself on top of her, bracing for impact. he felt the plane shake when the other wing went right through the parachute jump tower. he tightened his grip on stevie, ducking his head as the plane went straight towards the coney island beach. as the plane landed and slid in the sand, it slowly tore itself apart, peter letting out a loud scream.
the web head lost his grip on both the wing and on stevie, the both of them going flying through the air. their bodies tumble in the sand like rag dolls, the both of them landing uncomfortably and far from one another. stevie gasped for breath as she laid in the sand, the ache that had been in her body being ten times worse. she was too afraid to move, not wanting to cause herself anymore pain. but she needed to know where peter was and if he was okay. she slowly turned her head, noticing the fact that her ears were ringing once again. she rolls onto her stomach, it suddenly feeling like she was being suffocated. she reaches up and pulls her mask โ or what was left of it โ off her head, gasping for breath still. she continues to look for peter, needing some reassurance to know that he was okay and alive.
but in her search for peter, she sees the amount of damage that was surrounding her. the many pieces that had came from the plane, the line of fire that seem to never end, the smell of gasoline and smoke which was causing stevie's eyes to sting. she felt her chest ache at the scene, hoping โ no, praying that no civilians was on the beach and had gotten hurt. she slowly got to her feet, deciding that she wasn't gonna find her partner laying in the sand. as she stood up, a shock of pain went through her leg before spreading through the rest of her body. if her leg wasn't broken before, it definitely was now. she ignored the pain in her leg and the pounding in her head, slowly starting to limp her way through the smoke. she blinked rapidly, trying to gain control of her senses, but it seemed like nothing was working. she continued to look around in search of the parker boy, needing to know that he was okay. but she froze when she saw a figure slowly standing up a few feet in front of her.
"thank god." stevie breathed out when she noticed the familiar red and blue colors. she couldn't exactly hear herself due to the ringing in her ears, but she decided to focus on the good in that moment.
peter turned to look at her, a look of relief taking up her features when he had seen that she was okay. well, besides the blood that was leaking from her nose and a cut that was right above her eyebrow, she was okay. he started to move towards her, a slight limp in his step. she did the same, happy to see that he was able to walk. but she stopped in her spot again, her eyebrows furrowing slightly. she could feel chills run up her spine, telling her something was wrong. but because her senses were still out of wack, she couldn't tell which way to move or where to go. before she could figure it out, she felt herself get pushed roughly from behind, sending her body flying forward. she rolled in the sand once again, a pained grunt leaving her lips as she did so. she looks up, seeing that peter was in the sand once again too. she lifted herself up, ignoring the way her body was screaming in pain as she made her way over towards peter.
they still had a fight to finish.
she helped peter up, the both of them looking towards where the sound of metallic groaning and creaking was coming from. there stood adrian toomes, still dressed in his birdlike helmet, metallic boots, and wings. electric blue sparks were jumping off the wings, letting stevie know that they had taken some damage to the crash. that made some part of her feel good, glad to know that the wings weren't invincible.
"hey, pedro." mr.toomes greeted in rough voice, his green eyes moving over to stevie. "steph, you're not looking so hot."
stevie sucked in a breath as she glared at the older man. "eat a dick."
that seemed to anger mr.toomes, the man immediately straightening out his wings before he moved towards the two vigilantes. the both of them jumped out of the way, peter quickly rolling onto his feet before he shot out a web. he missed completely, mr.toomes bringing his metallic boot onto peter's chest, pushing the boy into the sand. stevie growls at that, moving towards the man quickly before she jumped on his back. she doesn't even care about the wings, just wanting to get him off of peter. she lifts her arm up before bending it and bringing her elbow down into is neck, making adrian yell out in pain. stevie then grabs at his mask, quickly pulling his helmet off before she punched him in the face. her plan seemed to work, the man taking his boot off of peter's chest as he tried to grab at stevie.
the carpenter girl was able to get a few more good licks in before she was grabbed by one of his wings. before she could do anything about it, she was being thrown into the sand. she felt the air leave her lungs, gasping for breath as she was being lifted back up. she was brought back down on the sand a few more times, pained screams leaving her lips as she did so. she was then left back up, stevie just hanging there. she looked at mr.toomes, a cynical smile on his lips. his other wing pulled itself back before it lunged itself at her, sending the teenage girl flying through the air. she landed about a meter away, getting a face full of sand as she landed on her stomach. she whimpered as she rolled onto her back, looking up at the night sky. a wheeze left her lips as she tried to catch her breath, feeling so exhausted in that moment. but she still manages to force herself back up, biting back any screams of pain that she wanted to let out.
she looks back in the direction that toomes and peter are in, seeing that toomes' razor sharp wings was holding peter in the air by the hood of his homemade suit. stevie moved forward, getting ready to fight the older man once again, even if it meant that she'd get severely hurt. as long as peter was okay. but as soon as she got close enough, toomes let peter drop to the sand before he moved around the boy. stevie's eyebrows raised at that, wondering what had gained the man's attention. but she quickly pushed that aside, going to make sure that peter was okay. she collapsed into the sand, placing a hand onto his shoulder. peter slowly lifted his head at that, looking to see that it was stevie. he then turned to where where toomes had went, seeing the way his wings were sparking, basically putting on a fucking fireworks show for them.
"your wingsuit." peter mumbled, making stevie turned towards toomes. she noticed the way he was teetering side to side, the man having a crate grasped in his boots. "your wingsuit's gonna explode!"
toomes either didn't hear him or chose to ignore him, flying higher into the air with the crate in his grasp. peter slowly raised his arm as he pressed the button to his web shooter, ignoring the ache that had appeared. once the web had attached itself onto the crate, peter grabbed ahold of it, quickly moving onto his feet so that he could try to stop toomes. peter looked down at stevie, silently asking her for help. the carpenter girl saw this, quickly shooting a web of her own. she scowl when she was pulled onto her feet, that pain reappearing in her leg. the two web heads pulled at their webs, trying their best to get the crate out of toomes' grasp.
the older man turned around to face the two teens. "time to go home, guys."
"we're trying to save you!" peter exclaimed.
toomes brought one of his wings forward, using the razor like edges to cut at both webs. this sent both vigilantes flying back into the sand. stevie watched as more and more sparks shot from toomes' wings, the man not being able to react before his wings blew and fell down to the sand below him. the flames that was already in that area got worse, becoming bigger and stronger. peter was the one to make the first move, shooting up from his spot and running over to where toomes had landed.
stevie went to go follow after him, but that pain in her leg appeared again, making her drop back down. "peter!" she yelled, but he was already gone.
she sighed, hoping that nothing else would happen. she laid down on her back, deciding that she was just gonna wait until she had gotten enough energy to get back up. she flinched when something dropped down in the sand beside her, seeing that it was adrian toomes. she looked up to see peter standing over her, the boy holding his shoulder. he then extended a hand out, looking down at stevie with raised eyebrows. she took ahold of his hand, the parker boy pulling her up onto her feet. he wrapped one of her arms around his shoulders, knowing that he would have to help her walk.
"how's your leg?" peter questioned, guiding stevie over to one of the crates so that she could sit.
"something's definitely wrong with it." stevie answered, a small chuckle escaping her lips.
"we'll do something about it, okay? just need to gather everything that was on the plane." peter told her, looking around the beach.
"yeah, okay." stevie nodded.
with that, peter started to gather and stack all the crates that was scattered across the beach. stevie wanted to help, but she was so exhausted she was sure she'd pass out if she pushed herself any further. but she did get to do something, being the one to web all the crates together since peter was out of web fluid. she also the pleasure of webbing toomes to the crates, a satisfied smile on her face as she looked at his own defeated one.
"you think we should leave a note?" peter asked.
"yeah." stevie shrugged.
"okay. but you're writing it because you have better handwriting than me." peter quickly said moving away to grab a piece of paper that just happened to be laying in the sand. he then looked over at toomes. "you don't happen to have a pen, do you?"
stevie couldn't help but snort, shaking her head at peter's joke. he had eventually found a pen, giving it and the piece of paper to stevie so she could write the note. peter had ended up turning around and bending his back slightly, letting stevie use him as a flat surface. once she was done writing the note, she put a little bit of web onto the back of it before handing it to peter, the parker boy sticking it onto one of the crates. peter then stepped back, reading what stevie had written.
found flying vulture guy
โ spider-man and remnant
p.s. sorry about your plane
"nice note." peter chuckled, stepping back so that he could stand next to stevie. he then wrapped stevie's arm around his shoulder again. "you ready?"
"i'm more than ready." stevie smiled, nodding her head slightly.
