❝ as much as it seems like
you own my heart, it's
ASTRONOMY, we're two
worlds APART !

astronomy, conan gray.

TWO DAYS WENT by, and it was now friday. everyday consisted of the grabber giving jaelin the usual breakfast and then leaving her alone. he didn't need to handcuff her, or even do anything since he knew she wouldn't be a problem. why?

because she had given up.

she was sat in the corner, not moving a muscle. she was blankly staring at her hands in her lap, which held robin's bandana. she wouldn't eat unless she absolutely needed to, and that was only two or three portions. she was like this ever since what happened. who could blame her?

the silence, the dried blood on the floor, the handcuffs laying in the other corner..it was like it was taunting her. laughing at her. repeating the words 'your fault' over and over again.

she still had the knife she hid from the grabber. at times, she picked it up and contemplated ending it all. she had nothing else to live for. would her mother even realise she was gone? would she care?

then again, that was her brain telling her to do it. her heart told her that she does have people who would care. her mind immediately thought of finney, gwen, donna, and maybe even robin's mother.

fuck, how would she react about everything?

jaelin didn't even want to think about that.

however, whenever she had it in her hands, it was like a force caused her to drop it each time. at first, she just thought it was because her hands were still numb and sore from the handcuffs, but it was an unusual force.

she would pick it up, and it was like something was ripping it out of her hands. or rather, someone.

after a couple tries, she gave up on the idea entirely, with her heart and the strange force winning over. still, that didn't mean she wasn't completely scarred and traumatised from the whole thing.

whilst she was sitting there, she was obviously unaware of the boy watching over her and trying to protect her as much as he could.

ROBIN WAS SITTING next to her, noticing her dispirited eyes. what once were brightened, joyous eyes were now filled with nothing but pure pain. ghosts couldn't normally feel emotions, but he felt worse than heartbroken.

yes, he may have gone through the same routine, and once had happiness during his last moments, but who's to say he couldn't still care for her? they were beyond each other's reach, but the good part about being a ghost is being able to watch over the people you love from afar.

the urge to speak to her through the phone grew more and more over the two days, but she just couldn't hear the rings. this annoyed not only him, but the others too.

they needed someone who was able to hear their calls, their stories, their voices. they wanted to help, even though no one helped them.

robin hoped with every fibre of his being that jaelin could at least realise he was there. he hoped that she knew he still loves her, even if they were two worlds apart.

he watched her clutch his bloody bandana in her hands, not letting go. it was like she was trying to hold onto those memories for as long as she could.

for his sake, he prays she holds onto them, because he could feel his own memories and name slowly start to slip away from him. he learned that him and the other boys' souls were trapped in the basement, needing to be set free.

he didn't understand it, or even how it was possible for souls to be trapped. but if that's the way it worked, then he needed jaelin to get up and get herself out..and fast.

but how?

IT WAS AROUND the afternoon, and jaelin still hasn't moved from her spot. she was mentally and physically drained from the last couple days, and especially the last 24 hours.

she would imagine what robin would be thinking, just seeing her rot away in the corner of an eerie basement, clutching onto his bandana. his voice would echo in her brain, as if he was actually speaking to her.

"get your shit together and finish this once and for all." she imagined robin's voice telling her in her head. she could hear and imagine it so clearly that it almost made her cry again.

she wondered what he would think about her past actions. would he forgive her? does he despise her? would he be disappointed? mad, even?

"i'm not mad or disappointed, jae. but this isn't the jaelin i fell in love with. the jae i know would pick herself up and come back stronger, for both of us and the other boys." his voice rang in her head again.

she couldn't help but feel a sense of comfort in that answer and his voice. however, she couldn't tell if that's what he would really say, or it was just her brain perceiving an answer only to make her feel better.

good intentions, but the outcome made her start tearing up. it's funny because that was exactly how the last couple days were. everything just seemed to be making sense and deemed to be good intentions, but at the end of the day, it brought nothing but tears and grief.

"what i wouldn't do for one of your hugs right now.." she whispered. her voice was hoarse, since she hasn't talked or said a word in over two days.

unbeknownst to the sorrowed girl, robin's voice in her head was, in fact, him telling her that. he sat next to her, telling her reassuring words, hoping that it would weirdly be able to reach her.

and it did. it certainly did. though, the two didn't know that.

suddenly, she felt a cold breeze around her shoulders. her breathing hitched as she got goosebumps on her skin, feeling the breeze settle down around her.

for the first time in over two days, she let out a tiny smile.

and that's when jaelin covey realised something. that's when she realised that as long as he was by her side, she could go against what she was terrified of.

it was time for her to quit sulking. it's not what robin would've wanted, and she tried to repeat that over and over again to block out the three words 'it's your fault' from her head.

though, she couldn't immediately jump into action. she had to think about this carefully and think of possible different outcomes and odds.

she still needs time to heal, and the pain wouldn't leave anytime soon, but she just needed that one reassurance. words that could push her back on her feet gently. words that could push her to face against her fears.

robin noticed the small smile on her face, and that made him smile for the first time whilst being dead. he knew that smile. he loves that smile.

"that's my girl." his voice appeared in her head again, but it was very faint, as if she heard it from a distance instead.

even in death, he could still make her heart swell. if that isn't love, she didn't know what was.

he couldn't be there for too long, so he placed a gentle kiss on the side of her head to remind her that he still loves her, no matter what, and he'd look over her as best as he could.

so, with a heavy heart and a new determination, jaelin pulled out her necklace, examining the pendant containing the blue jay bird. she then got robin's bandana and tied it around her head how robin had it.

even though robin held a special place in her heart, she had physical items that reminded her of him and their memories together. these things held such emotional value that it would've been rude of her not to showcase them.

once jaelin finished putting it on, she tightened the knot and sighed.

okay robin, let's start.
