❝ and i'm SICK of waiting
patiently, for someone that
WON'T even arrive ! ❞
romantic homicide, d4vd.
JAELIN AND FINNEY hugged for a couple more seconds before finally letting go. once they did, she immediately fixed his hair, not wanting it to be like how the grabber had placed it.
when she did, finney looked around and was able to get a proper look at his girl best friend in front of him. her clothes were dirty, her hair messy, her skin and hands filled with cuts and her wrists had bruises around them.
it was then that he noticed robin's bloody bandana around her head. his face scrunched up in confusion, looking at jaelin for an answer. when he looked into her eyes, it was like he was transported into a new world.
a world filled with sorrow, pain, horror, sadness, and grief.
wait...grief? he thought.
he searched jaelin's face for an answer, but she just shook her head the tiniest bit with a frown before looking down, choking the tears away. it was a small gesture, yet held the biggest news to him.
"the grabbber..he..?" finney stared at her with a mixture of emotions. this time jaelin couldn't make eye contact in fear of breaking down again. she was still grieving.
finney's eyes widened. he couldn't believe it.
the robin arellano..was dead?
his best friend..was dead?
the person who's been there for him since he was young..was dead?
no, no he couldn't be..right? finney felt the tears forming but wiped them away before they could spill out. though, that did pretty much nothing to stop the next few tears from leaking out.
he then abruptly got up, looking around the room, leaving no corner unturned. jaelin still held her gaze towards her lap, feeling guilty that finney had to find out like this.
finney was breathing heavily without him knowing. he frantically checked the main basement before going into the little room attached. he switched on the light, seeing a toilet and rolled up carpets next to it.
but no sight of robin.
he shook his head, "no..no- he can't be..no.." he muttered. he was practically fighting the tears back. he looked around once more as
he went back to the main basement and grabbed the door handle, pulling on it as if it would magically open at any minute. when it didn't budge, he dropped his head down, his hand still wrapped around the oddly shaped handle.
jaelin stood up and made her way towards him. she put a hand on his shoulder and he immediately wrapped his arms around her, burying his head into her neck. she noticed his bloody hand and realised he held onto his mini rocket that was also a flashlight.
she guessed he used that to cut the grabber's arm. she smiled slightly, knowing his mother gave him that when he was very little.
finney wanted answers, so he looked up to talk. but as soon as he did, his eyes landed on a medium black phone hung on the wall. his focus shifted onto it as he let go of jaelin and walked towards it.
jaelin furrowed her brows and turned around, seeing finney walk up to the device. she knew it was broken, since robin told her that the night they stayed awake.
the last night he was alive. the last night they were together.
she took a deep breath in and out, crossing her arms and watching him pick up the phone and put it to his ear. he looked back at jaelin who had a frown on her face, basically telling him it didn't work.
finney ignored it though and continued to fiddle with it. he tried pushing the buttons and getting it to work.
jaelin gave him a couple seconds to realise why it wouldn't work. when she saw him look down, she shifted her feet. the whole thing was very depressing to watch.
he reached down the bottom of the phone and picked up a wire. the wire that's supposed to be connected to the phone. the wire that was cut.
he stared at it for a couple seconds before letting it go and putting the phone back on the holder. he then silently went towards the mattress and sat down, not knowing what to feel.
he felt the mattress sink beside him, and from his peripheral vision he saw jaelin sit down next to him. though, neither of them said a word for a moment.
that was until finney spoke up, "what happened..?"
jaelin stared at the wall ahead of her, thinking of a way to tell him without breaking down. unconsciously, she started fiddling with her hands as her leg bounced up and down.
the dirty blond noticed this and silently reached for her hand, placing it on her lap and putting his own over hers. jaelin turned her head to him, seeing him with a frown.
she took deep breaths in and out before speaking. she started telling him everything that happened the past week or so. finney noticed her intentionally steer away from the details about robin since he could tell it was a touchy subject.
she purposefully left out the part where they kissed. it was the last blissful thing she experienced with robin, and even if finney would've been happy to hear it, she wanted to treasure it and keep it a secret for now.
robin was ripped away from her in the blink of an eye, so it felt nice to keep this one thing to herself.
so alas, the two best friends may have been the only two in the basement physically, but that didn't mean they were alone spiritually.
BY THE TIME jaelin finished explaining, there was a total of two breakdowns, ten hugs and an awful lot of tears. finney held onto jaelin's hand the entire time, squeezing it for reassurance when necessary. this was the thing that encouraged her to continue throughout it.
she calmed down towards the end, but the pain was still there. she hated remembering, let alone reciting it. but finney deserved to know more than anyone.
"and i tied his bandana around my head. i thought..if robin really wasn't coming back, then i wouldn't let him die in vain finn- i..i can't do that. i'm sick of waiting patiently for him to just show up, although a part of me still thinks he's somehow alive..you know?"
finney nodded, still going through a mixture of emotions at the explanation. one thing he knew for sure though was that robin was dead. as much as he hated to conclude to it, it was true.
that alone caused a series of emotional trauma and devastation between both teens. jaelin never really liked pity, but finney's heart ached for her. sure, they're in the same situation, but after everything jaelin went though so far, he couldn't help but feel utterly sorry for his best friend.
"yeah...you know, when me and gwen found out.." he looked away, "we didn't know how to feel. shocked. confused. angry. scared. we didn't know.."
this time jaelin brought up her other hand and put it over his own. it was her turn to listen, and that's exactly what she'd do.
"me and gwen wanted her to do that dream thing she has from time to time, but it doesn't work like that. we both knew that for sure at least.." he chuckled, but it was faint and not the humorous kind.
he was about to go on, but remembered him being beat up. without jaelin or robin, the three juniors had the chance to finally get some hits on him. gwen had helped, though he still got beaten up pretty bad.
jaelin squeezed his hand which brought him out of his trance. he sighed and arranged himself so he was laying down, with his head on jaelin's lap.
she didn't question it, knowing finney didn't need to tell her everything. plus, she could tell he was tired.
he shut his eyes and let the drowsiness kick in. he just hoped that when he woke up, it was all just a dream. a very fucked up dream.
