❝ ain't NO SUNSHINE when

ain't no sunshine, bill withers.
"WAIT SO YOU actually beat her up in the janitor's closet?!" finney asked her whilst getting his book for math next period. he had a proud smile on his face.
jaelin shrugged, "pretty much. she basically asked for it after dragging me inside. and let me tell you, it reeks in there!"
robin and finney chuckled at her antics. finney looked behind robin and noticed vianna walking down the hallway.
"speak of the devil." finney gestured his head to where she was. robin and jaelin turned around and saw non other than a patched up vianna.
the girl noticed the three of them and abruptly stopped and turned around, walking the other direction away from them. finney's eyes widened whilst his other two friends started laughing.
"no way.." finney spoke in astonishment.
jaelin turned to dirty blond and patted his shoulder, "i don't think she'll be a bother in math anymore."
as soon as she said that, the bell rang. finney shut his locker as the three made their way to mr johnson's class, "we'll see about that."
TRUTH BE TOLD, jaelin was right. vianna didn't glare, nor bother finney the whole of the first half of class. he eternally thanked jaelin, not remembering a day where vianna didn't make him want to get his scissors and cut his ear off.
they were about halfway into the lesson when suddenly the door opened, revealing the principle. everyone who was slacking in their seat and dozing off quickly sat up and pretended to do their work.
"sorry to disturb you mr johnson, but may i excuse jaelin covey from the class?"
jaelin's brows furrowed as her and robin shared a confused look.
did vianna snitch?
the whole class turned to her whilst she packed up her things and awkwardly walked towards the door. on the way there she saw finney give her a worried look. she gave him a small shrug before heading out the door with the principle.
"am i in trouble?" she asked whilst walking alongside the woman.
"not as far as i'm aware, no." was all she replied before the two made it to her office. jaelin let her shoulders drop and relax. however, it still made her more confused. what could she possibly be called in for?
the principle opened the door for her as she stepped in. she looked inside and saw her mother in her work attire with a solemn look.
"mom? what's going on?"
"SO YOU PULLED me out of school because your old college friend is visiting us for a day or two..?"
"well, i didn't want you to come home to a stranger." her mother told her whilst she turned into their street, "and besides, i'm sure rinaya could use some rest."
jaelin's eyes widened, "so i don't have to stay at robin's anymore? but i'm gonna be home with a complete stranger! you know, stranger danger?!"
her mother sighed and gripped the steering wheel tighter before letting go. jaelin watched her mother's knuckles turn from white to its normal colour.
"jaelin, have a little hospitality okay? he's here because his brother's house is under renovation and needs somewhere to stay." she said sternly.
jaelin slumped back into the chair, annoyed. she enjoyed staying at robin's house, no doubt. of course, she felt bad for ms arellano- having to work and look after not one, but two of them.
however, it didn't mean that the longing feeling of their home wouldn't make her miss it. now she would even more.
no words were spoken between them as her mother parked the car outside their house. jaelin unbuckled her seatbelt and got out, "what about my essentials bag? it's still at robin's."
"you can go and get it later with him if you want." she replied, unlocking the door with her keys.
the two went inside and jaelin immediately spotted a man sitting down by the island counter, drinking a bottled water.
at least it's not alcohol.
"jaelin, this is max. max, my daughter jaelin." her mother gestured back and forth between them.
"hello jaelin, pleased to meet you! hope you don't mind me crashing here for a bit." he greeted her with a smile.
she gave him a half smile back and waved. she wasn't too good with meeting new people, let alone adults. but if he really was staying with them for two days, then she'd have to put up with him.
"likewise, max.." she spoke before taking off her shoes and speed walking to her room. no offence to him but she didn't want to be around him any longer than she needed to be.
and boy was robin in for a serious rant later.
ROBIN WAS PUTTING his books away into his locker quickly. finney was standing next to him with his next period books.
"you don't have to skip with me finn, i know how your dad is with that shit." robin gave him a reassuring smile before closing his locker.
"yeah i wish i could. when you see her, tell her to call us and tell us what happened okay?" finney had a hint of worry in his voice.
well, of course he was worried. jaelin randomly gets pulled out of school for the rest of the day? there was definitely something up. he just hoped it wasn't because of anything bad.
"don't worry, i will." he said before they did their handshake. robin then patted his shoulder, "see ya, finn."
"stay safe robin." he nodded once at his best friend, watching him turn around and sneak out the back of the school. soon, robin disappeared out of his sight.
the bell rang, signifying the penultimate period of the day. he swiftly left robin's locker and walked towards his next class.
on the way there, he spotted a group of three guys leaning against the wall, whispering to each other whilst staring at him. finney brushed it off, being used to people making fun of him from time to time.
unexpectedly, these three boys started following him. finney grew nervous and didn't realise he walked straight past his class. he instead focused on trying to lose the three boys.
he looked back behind him and sighed in relief when the three boys were gone. he was about to turn a corner when suddenly he bumped into someone.
he looked up to see one of the three boys stare at him with a smirk. he looked beside him and saw the other two.
"what do you want..? leave me alone-" finney tried to walk the other way but was dragged back harshly, making him fall back on the floor.
the guy with curly hair laughed, "look at this one, boys. it's finney blake, the sophomore."
"or should we say, the noid of the school." the ginger spoke up.
the boy with straightened hair kicked his side, making finney groan in pain and clutch the spot he hit, which would definitely form a bruise later.
"too bad that robin arellano dude isn't here to save you." was all he heard before the three boys started kicking and beating the shit out of him.
robin, jaelin, gwen..i'm sorry.
i'm sorry for not being able to defend myself.
