𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐒𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐍. | ❛ Suit Up. ❜

A LOCK OF NUMB SHOCKNESS WAS SHOWN ON JAMIE'S DEVASTATED FACE. Tony, Jamie, and Steve were back once again in the briefing room, and the trio had a look as if in a daze as they all quietly mourned Coulson's death.

Jamie sat on her chair, her gaze looking down at her fiddled hands that were resting on the table. Her hands squeezed into fists and she lets out a deep breath to prevent herself from crying. She blinked a few times and sniffed, earning a few concerned looks from Tony and Steve, but she shook them off with a smile.

"These were in Phil Coulson's jacket. Guess he never did get you to sign them." Fury broke the ice, throwing Coulson's Captain America trading cards on the table towards Steve. The cards consumed her vision and she looked at them, her eyes softening.

Steve picked them up, stained with crimson blood as Fury continued, "We're dead in the air up here. Our communications, location of the cube, Banner, Thor. I got nothing for you. Lost my one good eye." He explained, causing Tony to look down, a look of disbelief etched onto his face.

"Maybe I had that coming. Yes, we were going to build an arsenal with the Tesseract. I never put all my chips on that number though, because I was playing something even riskier." Fury pondered as he sauntered around the table, meeting their gazes.

"There was an idea, Stark and Barzinji knew this, called the Avengers Initiative. The idea was to bring together a group of remarkable people, see if they could become something more. See if they could work together when we needed them to, to fight the battles that we never could. Phil Coulson died still believing in that idea, in heroes." Fury finished, looking at the billionaire and the ex-soldier.

She sighed and avoided eye contact with him. Feeling a headache forming in her temples, she put her hand over her face as she clenched her jaw. She didn't notice Tony getting up from his seat, but a door shut was all she heard when she looked up.

She watched his body disappear from the hall through the glass window and frowned. With another sigh, she left the briefing room to follow him. Fury watched her leave the room with furrowed eyebrows, "Well, it's an old-fashioned notion."

Jamie saunters behind the billionaire, a slight worry glistering in her eyes. She folded her arms in front of her chest, "You alright?" She softly asked him, making him tense, and turned around to face her.

Tony brought a hand over his face and sighed, gesturing with his hand, "I don't know, you tell me, how am I right now, J?" He bluntly responded, averting his gaze away from her face towards the floor.

Jamie shook her head with a chuckle, "It was worth a shot.." she mumbled, enough for him to hear but didn't comment on it. The pair didn't say anything after that. It was rather a comfortable silence in which he appreciated from the female.

A few moments later, heavy footsteps softly padded the floor, slowly revealing Steve entering the room, standing not too far behind them. He crossed his arms as he leaned against the wall. "Was he married?"

Tony had his eyes on the empty cell container, not saying a word. He sighed and shrugged his shoulders, "No. There was an uh. . .cellist, I think." he answered with a shrug.

"I'm sorry. He seemed like a good man."

Tony rolled his eyes, "He was an idiot." he admitted, scoffing whilst he turned around to meet his face.

Jamie glared at him, a look of disbelief painting her face, "Why? For believing?"

Tony shook his head, "For taking on Loki alone," he corrected, turning his back away from her as he slowly started to walk towards Steve. She was hot in his heels and followed after him.

"He was doing his job," Steve interjected.

Tony sighed, shaking his head, "He was out of his league. He should have waited. He should have. ." he tried to explain, but Steve beat him to it. "Sometimes there isn't a way out, Tony."

"Right. How did that work for him?" Tony shot back.

Steve sighed, "Is this the first time you've lost a soldier?"

Tony turned around sharply, "We are not soldiers! I am not marching to Fury's fife!"

Jamie stepped in between them, "Neither are we," she said, referring to herself and Steve. "He's got the same blood on his hands as Loki does. Right now we've got to put that aside and get this done. Now Loki needs a power source, if we can put together a list. ." she explained, causing Tony to look at the blood-stained wall.

"He made it personal."

Steve shook his head, "That's not the point."

"That is the point. That's Loki's point. He hit us all right where we live. Why?" Tony asked once again, his frown deepening.

"To tear us apart," Steve replied, making the ex-soldier nod her head in agreement.

"He had to conquer his greed, but he knows he has to take us out to win, right? That's what he wants. He wants to beat us and he wants to be seen doing it. He wants an audience." Tony concluded, making Jamie nod as she gestured with her hand, "Yeah, Steve and I caught his act in Stuttgart."

"Yeah! That's just a preview, Barzinji. This is opening night. Loki's a full-tilt diva. He wants flowers, he wants parades, he wants a monument built in the skies with his name plastered-'' he exclaimed but stopped once the realization hit him, causing the duo to look at the billionaire with knowing looks.

"Son of a bitch."

Steve and Jamie walked inside the medical room, their renowned feature and posture illuminating from the lights above them making them almost looking like gods. Natasha, who was seated on Clint's bed, quickly stood up and looked at the pair, unprepared.

"Time to go," Steve announced, his firm voice echoing through the room.

Natasha titled her head to the side and made eye contact with her friend, "Go where?"

"We'll tell on the way, Nat. Can you fly one of those jets?" she asked at the end, her eyes tinting with a glint of curiosity.

Just as the Russian assassin was about to answer, Clint beat her to it as he walked out of the restroom, his eyes on the ex-soldier. "I can."

Steve looked at Natasha and she nodded her head, confirming that Clint was on their side. "You got a suit?" he asked him, his stoic expression mirroring with his.

Clint nodded as he wiped his hand with a towel, "Yeah."

"Then suit up."

Everyone went their separate ways to get themselves prepared and get their weapons. Captain America pulled out his helmet and shield, Tony wields his Iron Man helmet, Black Widow attached a glove gauntlet with her rounds on her wrist, Hawkeye slipped on his quiver of arrows, and lastly, the Heroine grabbed both of her swords and put it at her shoulder holster.

The quartet walked towards and into the Quinjet. A young S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot looked up from his tablet and frowned. "Hey, you guys are not authorized to be here," he commanded, walking closer to the group.

Steve stepped in front of the young man and gave him a look, "Son, just don't."

Soldiers and policemen have taken positions of covering the streets and protecting all of the inhabitants as numerous Chitauries erupt the busy streets of New York. From the sky, Iron Man leads a trail of Chitauries towards his tower.

The Quinjet booms into the city soon after. "Stark, we're heading northeast," Natasha said into her earpiece as she held into the wheel, her eyes focused on the road in front of her.

"What, did you stop for drive-thru? Swing up Park, I'm gonna lay 'em out for you," he responded from inside his suit. Tony banked around his tower and swooped down the streets, causing a Chitauri to crash. Flying up, he puts the following army of Chautaries in view of the Quinjets. Black Widow takes out a machine gun and fires at the creatures.

Reaching the Stark Tower, the two gods came into Clint's view. He looked out to his left window, finding a target. He banked the jet towards the tower and aimed the machine gun at Loki. Loki aimed the scepter at the jet and fired a blast of energy. The Quinjet soon caught on fire and Clint could only maneuver one wing of the jet.

The jet spins around as it slowly falls from the sky. Jamie tried to hold onto one of the railings from the ceiling, but her body collided with Steve's. Muttering a quick apology, she sheepishly looked at him making him give her a small grin as he held her waist to prevent her from another fall. Her stomach fluttered at the small touch, but it quickly disappeared as it rapidly appeared once the jet slammed down into the streets.

Clint and Natasha unfastened their seatbelts and quickly opened the ramp. Steve and Jamie ran down the ramp first, with them hot in their heels each one having their weapons in hand. The quartet ran behind upside taxis and look up to see Loki taking his creatures down the streets. Terrified people are engulfed around the area as they run away from the god.

Chitauri soldiers began firing at them. Black Widow pulled both of her guns and fired at them before turning her head to Steve, "We got this. It's good. Go!"

Steve looked at Clint, "You think you can hold them off?"

"Captain," Clint pulled a trigger to his bow and gave him a firm nod. "It would be my genuine pleasure." Hawkeye shot an arrow into the creature's head, gaining a few seconds for Captain America as he fell down the bridge, followed by an explosion.

Jamie stood beside Natasha as she sliced her blade into one of the creatures, killing them. The Russian assassin fired another shot, "Just like Budapest all over again!"

Clint glanced at his friend, "You and I remember Budapest very differently."

Jamie pounced onto a Chitauri, her blade slicing its head off before looking at the pair with a pout, "And where was my invite, guys?"

Clint rams an arrow on a Chitauri soldier down its throat. Beside him, Natasha gets her hands on the scepter and uses it as a sword to fight them. Steve and Jamie join soon after by using their respective weapons and tries to take out as many Chitauries as possible, but it's too much until lightning strokes down from the sky. Channeling the blast, it fires the electricity out towards the creatures around them. They're blasted in a shockwave, convulsing before dropping dead on the ground.

"What's the story upstairs?" Steve asked Thor, his eyes gazing down on the Asgardian as he watched him slightly limp towards him.

"The power surrounding the cube is impenetrable," Thor answered, his frown deepening.

"Thor is right! We gotta deal with these guys." Tony said through his suit, his voice piercing through their earpieces.

Natasha gazed off in the distance, before landing her gaze on her friend, "How do we do this?"

"As a team." Jamie and Steve said in unison, causing them to look at each other and nod.

"I have unfinished business with Loki," Thor added, looking at the others with a worried look.

Clint pulled down his arrow and scoffed, "Yeah, get in line."

"Save it. Loki's gonna keep this fight focused on us and that's what we need. Without him, these things could run wild. We got Stark up top, he's gonna need us.." Steve explained as he walked towards the team, but his footsteps halted once he noticed Bruce's appearance.

Just then, Bruce arrived on a small motorbike. Getting off, he looked around the city with disbelief. Jamie's lip curved into a smile. "So, this all seems horrible," Bruce stated as they slowly started to approach them.

"I've seen worse," Natasha said, her eyes tinting with a glint of happiness to see the scientist.

"Sorry." he apologized, his eyes lingering longer on the Russian assassin.

"No. We could use a little worse," she reassured, her lips painting a smile, but her expression serious.

"Stark? We got him." Steve announced to Tony through his earpiece.

"Banner?"

"Just like you said," Steve told him, his eyes on the scientist.

Inside his suit, Tony's voice reached out, "Then tell him to suit up. I'm bringing the party to you."

Iron man came out from a building with the Chitauri leviathan impatiently trailing behind. The rest of the Avengers looked up, their posture still and getting ready. Natasha cocked her head to the side, briefly glancing at Jamie, "I..I don't see how that's a party.."

Tony swooped down the street, the leviathan mimicking his actions by scooping their body down the ground, barreling the roads like a freight train. Bruce looked behind him, his eyes hardening as he began walking towards the monster.

"Dr. Banner. Now might be a really good time for you to get angry." Steve suggested, walking closer to the scientist.

Bruce glanced at him through his shoulder, "That's my secret, Captain. I'm always angry." he told him before his body transformed into the Hulk.

Green shot through his body, feeling his figure stretching and harden. The team watched how he slammed the leviathan in the nose, creating a shockwave as he glided backward with his fist still on their face. The monster flipped over and Tony used the opportunity to extend his arm out and shoot a rocket.

Once he fired a bomb, the Chitauri were blown away with pieces of their metal getting caught on fire. It collapsed and sizzled as they hit the pavement. Realizing the leviathan's body was pointed towards the Avengers, Steve raised his shield, but the damage was too big.

Jamie beat him to it and stepped in front of them, crossing her two swords in front of her chest. They all ducked down as black energy maneuvered around them and created a protector barrier, preventing the damage to fall upon them. The Heroine grunted and let out a cry as she squeezed the blades together, feeling the energy rushing inside of her.

Everyone stood up, looking at her in awe. Natasha's eyes were wide and she looked at her, her eyes painted with amazement as she gestured with her hand, "I forgot that you use your mojo sometimes." Jamie stifled a laugh and gave her a look, shaking her head.

The team gathered together and stood next to each other with their respective weapons and armory in hand. Jamie stood next to Steve, both of her swords in her hands feeling the vibration of energy rushing through as she stood in a stoic and heroic posture alongside others.

From above and on the buildings, the Chitauri army watched in horror as a group of earth's mightiest heroes finds themselves united against a threat. To fight the wars no single superhero could hold out against; The Avengers Assemble.
