HELLFIRE

▬▬▬

▬▬▬

Y/n was resting in the quiet depths of the Hidden World, her thoughts heavy as she processed the decision to leave. She was startled when Toothless appeared, a fish clutched in his mouth. "I thought you'd want this," he murmured softly, nudging the fish toward her with a gentle grunt. He placed it carefully at her talons.

Y/n smiled, her heart swelling with love. She leaned down and licked his head affectionately. "Thank you, my love," she said, her voice tinged with regret. "I'm sorry I have to leave so quickly."

Toothless shook his head, not quite understanding but offering her silent support. Just then, one of their hatchlings, Dart, came bounding over, her small wings fluttering excitedly. "Mom, Dad, can we go with you?" she asked, her bright eyes full of hope.

Y/n felt her heart twist. She had to leave for reasons she couldn't fully explain, but the thought of being apart from them all was unbearable. She nuzzled Dart tenderly, wishing she could give her the answer she wanted.

"Oh, my little one," Y/n rumbled, her voice soft and heavy with emotion. "I wish you could come with me, but the journey I must undertake is far too dangerous." She glanced up at Toothless, their eyes meeting in a silent exchange of love and sorrow.

"The Hidden World needs you both to stay and protect our kin," Y/n continued, trying to keep her tone reassuring. "I go alone so that I might return to you sooner, without fear of putting you in harm's way."

Dart's expression fell, her small body sagging with disappointment. Toothless moved to nuzzle her, letting out a low, comforting croon. Y/n watched them, her own eyes glistening with unshed tears. She knew this decision was necessary, but it tore at her heart to leave her beloved family behind, even for a little while.

"I will return to you, I promise," Y/n vowed, her voice tinged with quiet determination. Reaching out, she gently pulled Toothless and Dart close, enveloping them in her massive wings. "Hold fast to that promise, my loves. I will be back before you know it."

Y/n then bent down and gently picked up the fish Toothless had brought her, savoring the comforting gesture as she began to consume it. The familiar taste and texture of the meal helped to ground her, easing some of the heaviness in her heart.

As she finished the last morsel, Y/n rose to her full, impressive height, her bronze scales glittering in the soft, bioluminescent glow of the Hidden World. A soft smile played on her lips as she looked down upon her kingdom, her gaze sweeping over the familiar caverns and winding passages.

Though her heart was heavy with the weight of her decision, Y/n knew she must be steadfast. With a powerful, resounding roar, she called out to her people, the sound echoing majestically over the land and reverberating through the very stone. It was a signal of her impending departure, a solemn farewell.

The air seemed to hum with energy as Y/n's massive wings beat once, the very earth trembling in response. All around, the gathered dragons rumbled their farewells, their voices joining in a chorus that accompanied her.

With a graceful, yet forceful, spring from the ground, Y/n launched herself into the sky, her spiraling ascent carrying her higher and higher. The Hidden World, her home for so long, began to fade beneath her as she soared upward. A pang of sorrow gripped her heart, but the journey that lay ahead was calling.

Spreading her great wings wide, Y/n banked sharply and turned her gaze towards the distant horizons, determined to meet the challenges that awaited her. Though she would miss her beloved Toothless and their hatchling Dart dearly, she knew her duty was to protect their kind, no matter the personal sacrifice.

With one last wistful glance back at the receding realm below, Y/n steeled her resolve and surged forward, cutting through the sky with powerful strokes of her mighty wings. The future was uncertain, but she would face it head-on, for the sake of her family and all the dragons of the Hidden World.

▬▬▬

Y/n soared across the open skies, the vast expanse of land below her rapidly approaching. Soon, she came upon a vast, unfamiliar continent, its towering mountain ranges and sprawling forests stretching out as far as the eye could see.

Sensing the need for caution, Y/n carefully folded her wings and began a graceful spiral descent, aiming for the dense tree cover of a nearby forest. The thick foliage provided just enough concealment to shield her from any potential human eyes - at least for the time being.

As her clawed feet touched down softly in a small, secluded clearing, Y/n took a deep, steadying breath. She could feel the weight of her journey settling upon her shoulders, a heaviness that came with the responsibility of her mission. Yet, her resolve remained unyielding.

After a moment of quiet reflection, Y/n decided it would be best to rest and regain her strength before venturing forth to the nearby city. The queen of dragons slowly lowered herself to the mossy ground, curling her massive, sinuous tail around her body in a protective, almost comforting gesture.

The forest surrounding her was serene, the only sounds being the whisper of the wind through the leaves and the distant calls of woodland creatures. Closing her eyes, Y/n allowed herself to finally succumb to the deep, much-needed sleep that had eluded her in the Hidden World. Here, in this unfamiliar but peaceful place, her mind found a rare moment of calm, even if only for a little while.

As she drifted off, her scaled sides rising and falling with each deep, even breath, Y/n knew that soon she would have to face the challenges that had drawn her from her home. But for now, she would allow herself this brief respite, gathering her strength for the trials that lay ahead.

▬▬▬

Y/n's eyes snapped open in irritation at the growing chatter swirling around her. She groaned as the last remnants of her much-needed sleep slipped away. Her hatchlings' constant noise had been one thing, but now there were other voices interrupting her rest.

"Oi! Shut it!" she barked, her head snapping up and causing the poor kids to freeze in terror. Their wide eyes stared back at her, and Y/n softened a little, realizing her snap had been too harsh.

"Sorry," she muttered under her breath, before lying back down, trying to get some peace. The kids were a green-haired boy, his shoulders shaking with nervousness, and another with red-eyed, spiky hair, who was glaring at Y/n.

"We were talking here, you extra," the red-eyed boy snapped, his voice sharp. Small sparks of energy popped from his hands, crackling like little electric bursts. He seemed more annoyed than scared, and Y/n couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at his defiance.

The green-haired boy stammered, trying to calm him down, his voice apologetic. "Sorry, she's just... well, she's not used to being woken up," he mumbled, casting a wary glance at Y/n.

Y/n sat up slowly, her expression softening as she saw the sparks. "You think you're tough?" she asked, her tone a mix of amusement and authority. She tilted her head, curious to see how the young one would react, but also, hoping to avoid another scene.

The red-eyed boy let out a sharp laugh, his eyes narrowing. "Hah, it thought there's a lizard bastard around! Now go back to sleep and let us have our talk in peace, or you can just tell us if you're a dragon or not."

Y/n snorted, a puff of smoke curling from her nostrils as she glared at him. "I'm a dragon, yes," she said with a regal edge, her voice deepening with authority. "The queen, in fact."

She could feel the tension in the air as the boy's defiance faltered for a moment, his eyes wide with realization. The green-haired boy, still nervous, glanced between them, clearly unsure whether to apologize or stand his ground. Y/n settled back down, tail coiling around her, but kept her sharp gaze on the two of them.

"Now, if you're done with your little chat," she said coolly, "I suggest you make it quick. Or I'll have to remind you why I'm the queen."

The red-eyed boy, Kacan, sneered and spat on the ground. "You're not the boss of me, lizard."

Y/n smirked, her sharp eyes narrowing as she leaned in closer, blowing a blast of hot air right into Kacan's face. "Perhaps not," she growled, her voice low and threatening, "but I can still kill you, kid."

Kacan froze, the heat of her breath sending a shiver down his spine. The green-haired boy quickly stepped between them, his hands raised in a calming gesture. "Let's just go, Kacan," he urged, looking at his fiery companion with a pleading expression. "This isn't worth it."

Kacan glared for a moment longer, his fists still crackling with energy, but finally, he muttered something under his breath and backed off. "Fine," he snapped, turning away. "But next time, lizard, don't think you can intimidate me."

Y/n watched them go, her smirk lingering as she settled back down. "That's what I thought," she muttered to herself, before closing her eyes again, finally able to resume her rest—at least until the next interruption.

She couldn't help but feel a twinge of amusement at the young boy's bravado. It reminded her of her own hatchlings' stubborn defiance at times. While she respected his spirit, she had no patience for those who would challenge her authority, especially in her own territory.

As the sounds of the two boys retreating faded into the distance, Y/n allowed herself to relax once more. The forest was peaceful, and she knew she needed to conserve her strength for the challenges that lay ahead. With a contented rumble, she nestled deeper into the soft moss, her wings folding protectively around her.

Soon, the rhythmic sound of her breathing filled the clearing, and Y/n drifted off into a deep, restorative sleep. Whatever the future held, she would face it with the same regal determination that had earned her the title of queen. For now, she would savor this moment of tranquility, knowing that her vigilance and power would be required once more when she woke.
