Love. Love is a single word that could mean many different things. Comparison, many people should know of how love visualized an individual's affections and care as well as their sacrifice to others. Take it as those romantic clichés where love is in the air as eyes flashed to one another, blazing the fiery fire named love.

Many should have known the original stories of love and sacrifice, and have gotten familiar to many different types of romantic life with many different outcomes. Love that could start feud between sides, love that could cure death, love that could lift someone from a curse, love that could even start a war.

But have you ever experienced it?

This male has and will do anything for his lady to be safe. Here's the story.

.

Another day came into the winter wonderland kingdom. The crowds outside were lively as they celebrated what seems to be the kingdom's new heir and rightful throne, their new prince and future king, Yuno.

As the crowds hollered here and there, three remaining siblings stepped away from the crowds, doing their 'assigned task' to protect the kingdom's 'peace'. Meanwhile, there sat a fine dashing male sitting on his chair, writing with the peace of feather. Going on as he pondered back to what had happened from his previous task, writing evenly as he recalled the memories.

His surroundings were warm and cosy. There wasn't much within the room; it was nothing of a peasant like furniture — which in the matter of fact he is.

"I can't believe I have to do all this..." He mumbled as he sighed in annoyance, placing the written paper nearby the not yet dried papers. He lifted his right leg, crossing them over the other under the desk; dipping the feather by the ink and continued to write as detailed as he could.

But as he returned back to focus on the new patch of papers, the hard winds drifted in through the window behind him, opening in surprise, along with pieces of confetti from the outside going unto his hair. The papers blew away, followed by the laughter from the outside of rejoicing.

"Why are the winds so hard these days? It's quite annoying, really." Bones appeared in a flash, boarding the windows from incoming winds that could blow the window once again. At that moment, Zenon realized how much the winds annoys him.

But that anger towards the non-living thing resides as a shout appears through the arches near his room.

"ZENOO!!" She ran up to him, excitement filling her veins as she didn't see him all day. The warm, comfortable articles of clothing were soft and nice.

It takes so much of him to hold his will from removing himself from his doing at that moment just to hug the snug human nearby. His pupils dilated just by the view of her, smiling under his palm, before recovering into the emotionless facade he held.

The shining blue eyes were captivated to see her that way. He never wanted a single frown or even a single wound or scratch on her. He'll demolish any one of them if it did happen. Anyways—

He sighed, looking up to face her with a single glance as he resumed his work. The single feather on his hand, inked as it continued on to slide across the surface. "What?"

Sitting in front of the desk he sat, she roamed over the piles of papers he inked neatly. Puffing her cheeks, "I'm bored~ Do you have anything I can do in mind? Or anything to help your work? I really have to get productive!"

Stealing another glance, he met his eyes with hers, before returning back down to his paper; his other hand supporting his head as he leaned. "Exercise."

"Eh? It's cold outside! I can't do that!" She pouted, patting her cheeks as she complained in boredom. The pout she had sent shivers down his stomach; they were like butterflies and even zoos!

"Head on and practice your magic. Maybe with that, you could help with Vanica's work." He lets out an exasperated sigh, irritated by the loss of words since she came. But secretly needing her comfort and company.

She burned his words deep within her brain, realizing how it's nearly impossible. "Hm... I can't train by myself, though! Train me!"

"Not now. I'm busy."

"How about I help you!" She retorted, wanting to spend some time with him. He has been disappearing from the castle and the abode they own near it, every now and then with his siblings and she wondered why. Until now, his siblings were not here and yet were doing business and protecting the kingdom and the borders.

He didn't want to lie to her. Not even once, but this has to be it. He had to. For the sake of their goals and oath with his siblings. She doesn't know a single thing, staying hidden behind his back. They have been leaving for certain reasons which he couldn't have the heart to tell now, maybe in the future he could.

She noticed his deep thoughts and the annoyance painted by his face, slowly speaking out from the silence held. "...Well, if you're okay with it...?"

Shaking her hands in front of her, she became frantic. "I don't want to bother you... So, I thought—"

"Just come sit here and watch me write my report." He patted by the made-up chair of bones, which he intended to use for the dried piles of paper to sit on.

Astonished, she opened her mouth in awe. "Really?! I won't disturb you, I promise!" Jumping to their seat by his side, she leaned on her arms that sat by the table, watching close to his fancy writing.

He smiled softly, shifting his gaze back and focused on his work.

'You're all that matters to me.' He thought, softening his eyes in calming demeanour. This is all that matters, for now, just him and her together. He just hoped nothing changed in the near or even far future.

He wished for this to run for eternity. He loves her, dearly.

How so, he knew that at some moments things were bound to change. But this was something he totally didn't expect.

────────────────────────────────

"We need her."

His blue shining eyes widened in surprise, darkened afterwards in the reaction to the sudden words that appeared from his older brother. Replying with a frown, "No."

Dante looked over to him in slight surprise, smiling softly. "Dear brother of mine, what did you say? Care to tell why not?" Those emerald eyes grew strict and crazed, watching the blue-eyed male who sat frozen on his seat; eyes widened in refusal.

"If she doesn't serve the kingdom, then what use is she? You should know this, brother." Zenon's eyes flattered over to the oldest of three. His usual cold facade crumbled into pieces by the male's words. He didn't want that.

He gulped down his throat, exhaling the air that he held just now. "I—"

"Ne, ne~ Zeno~ Are you willing to sacrifice your 'hubby' for our kingdom? Hm~ Remember our oath, there!" Vanica, the middle child, placed her two hands by her cheeks, pushing cutely while she smiled sweetly.

Zenon wished that his sister could side him. But he knew that he was in a bad state to begin with. Loving someone especially with his current occupation and situation really made him a villain that shouldn't deserve any love. But he just hoped.

"Vanica is right. What use has she been for this whole long time? Nothing." Zenon grew nervous, not accepting any of it.

Clenching his fist underneath the table, he gritted his teeth silently while the other siblings focused themselves away from him. Dante who leaned back to his throne-like seat, sighed in accomplishment. Vanica picked her sharp nails, scratching them down to the table with a sinister smile. There seemed to be no way to escape this...

"We shall pursue our goals! We've taken this kingdom for a reason in years! Striving our goals as mere peasants! Now, we're on top of the chain!!" Dante boasted, following with Vanica's squeal of excitement.

"Next is to remove weaklings."

Zenon lost it. He couldn't change what it meant to be done. If only she was never here! She could've been all fine and safe... Although now it seems to be far from hope. She's a weakling...

"Take her in and I'll have an agreement settled with you, boy. She will be in no harm." The man's words caught him, facing the eldest with a single hope still in mind.

"No harm..."

The least that he wanted to happen to her was a single scratch on her skin. The sound of no harm was enough to calm him down. No harm should be alright, right? He just wished for her safety.

"At a matter of fact, she'll grow stronger! A potential, really." It piqued his interest. It's a win-win situation. His and his siblings' accomplishments and goals that could strive into greatness as well as her safety and ability to defend herself could apply. It should be fine...?

He continued to sit in silence as the man continued. "For the Spade Kingdom!"

"For the Spade Kingdom~~!" The woman threw her arms on the air.

The other two waited for his response, finding his face filled with worry and confusion. He was trapped in a situation he couldn't escape. Facing reality and fate, this could be all he can do. "...For the Spade Kingdom."

Dante stood with a large smile, going away as he pulled Zenon with him away from the sister of the group. "That's it! Now, let's have a private chat about love, dear boy."

────────────────────────────────

She sat calmly on the desk, sitting by the chair made of bones; remembering how she used to do this once in a while. The feather by her finger's tip glided across the patch of paper. Sketching down a face with ink was hard, yet she managed.

His stern face and cold demeanour were intoxicating to her. Having him as hers is truly a pleasure she takes as luck. She held a memory where he sat focused by her side back fifteen years ago. The young Zenon she loved and always had. Now they've grown more than before, sharing an unconditional love which she was blinded for.

The door snapped open, surprising her which she spoke. "Zenon?"

The look of worry and uneasiness covered his face which was so unlike him. She went and asked further, standing as the male collected her coat for warmth. "What's wrong?"

"Let's get going, baby." He went and placed her fur mantel long coat by her shoulders, taking her hand by his calloused ones as he held it as his life depended on it. He was fine just a moment ago when he returned back from his mission, so what happened?

"Where are we going?"

Striding by the hallways that viewed the storm outside, she grew interested. Looking at the usual falling snow, she shifted back to face him. His grasp on her hand grew tighter, sweaty as nervousness seemed to be the case that he was facing.

Stopping her following steps, she held back her position; Zenon stopped along, not facing back at her. "Zeno, I'm confused." He bit his lip, holding back the tears from cascading. Holding his breath, he didn't want to bring more harm to the situation.

"Please, trust me." He slowly spoke, bringing more worry to her.

She smiles warily, walking to his side; her hand still wrapped around his large ones, "Of course, I do. I just don't quite understand." His steps resumed by the empty halls as she followed his steps by his side, keeping up his speed.

"I love you." His hand trembled against her's, causing her to grow worried to the point she noticed all of his emotions. Holding his hand, she gave a reassuring squeeze that she hoped was enough to calm him down. He speak his love and affection outside of their room? That's way over. Just what was happening?

His steps grew faster, with her not having any knowledge of where they were going. "What's wrong with you? I'm getting really worried."

"Zeno, answer me." Her words came off sternly like a command. She grew scared. Stopping once more, holding back the steps that he followed once more. They were now far away from their room, she had never actually wandered within the castle. This place seems unfamiliar to her in some way at night.

"Is something wrong?"

With no response from him, she held her breath."You can talk to me..."

"I know that." He shook his head, not facing her even once.

"Then, what is it that you're hiding? Is there something going on? You can always tell me, Zeno." Turning him over to face her, she noticed the crease by his forehead. His eyes glossy and darkened. Worry still faced by her once more.

He smiled softly, ruffling her head. "There... isn't anything wrong. I'm just worried..."

"Are you sure? What are you worried about?" Stepping another step closer to him, she smiled in return, truly trying to understand him.

He stood quiet, looking at her in the eyes. His sharp and sly eyes were always cold and emotionless. She didn't mind even once, since she knew that he loves her as she does. Even at that moment where she realized how the king and queen died for unexpected reasons which she has never known of, she knew how he held back his words.

But those cold and locked facades always crash near her. He lets out a sudden sob that he couldn't hold. Turning away from the female and removing his hold from her.

"Hey..." She wrapped her arms around him. In an immediate response, he turned and buried himself by her shoulder, sobbing quietly. Warm tears falling close her neck.

She patted his back, kissing the side of his head, "You can always tell me, you know..."

"I know. I'm just going to miss you, baby."

"Why? Are you going somewhere?" She asked by his statement. He leaned by her comfort, taking the snug of warmth that he craved every time. Claiming her was one of the best things of his life... but this? He doesn't want something that might separate her from him.

He lied once more. Hoping for it to be the last. "Yes..."

"Well, I'm sure that it'll be awhile. You can always visit me, every now and then, yes?" She acknowledged his secondary powers, knowing how useful and convenient it is since she could meet him from time to time as he continued to do his task to 'protect' the kingdom.

"Yeah..." He hummed, stopping his tears. Smiling and pulling away from her warm neck. Patting his tears away with her napkin she had by her. He pulled her fingers close to his lips, kissing the (colour) band she had by her ring finger.

"Then it's settled, there's nothing to be worried about. So, where are we going, love?" Her hand tangled by his, striding this time slower than the one they had. His small smile reassured her.

"Trust me on this, (y/n)."

She nodded with the same smile she usually made when anyone was around. "Always. Though, why are we going to the forbidden room? Dante doesn't allow me to go there, you know."

She recognized this hallway very well, remembering how her brother-in-law prohibited her from entering this very room and door. She always walked past it through this large labyrinth of riches and wealth of a castle.

"It's alright. Let's go." Pushing past the doors with the bones he created, It swiftly opened and revealed the hidden treasures within. "A-Alright." She responded, following as she took his presence to remove the aerie atmosphere.

"So, this is what it looks like..." She roamed her eyes over the walls and the tall ceiling. Realizing how ominous odd the room was. With a large hole in the centre of the really large room. Facing back to the male who still held her hand.

"Why are you bringing me here, Zeno?"

His face snapped into regret, wanting to change things at that moment. Reassuring nothing was to happen and that the mutual project will work successfully, this has to be the way. "Baby, I love you. I love you so much. More than anything in this world, you know that right?"

"Of course! I love you, too—"

"Then forgive me..." He smiled as tears cascaded once more down his cheeks.

"Z-Zeno..."

"Hey... what's wrong?" She wrapped her arms back around his waist, pulling him back to an embrace. "Don't cry. Tell me, what's wrong?"

He sobbed, inhaling her scent as if it were the last time they'll meet. This has to be the best, but he can't let her go. "I can't do it. I just can't do it."

"Zenon?"

Claps appeared out of nowhere surprising the female as she jolted in fear. Facing the source of sound as a soft laugh jumped behind Zenon. With their arms still wrapped around each other. "Well done. Nice act, brother. How smooth that was, indeed."

Her eyes went wide, surprised to see the male that prohibited her from entering this specific room. "Dante?!" Gravity pushed her away from the wall of comfort she hugged. Zenon's heart crushed as soon as she left his grasp, holding back his breath and his cries because of his brother's presence.

She fell down the hole, joining the sacred ornaments as well as the coffins that laid near the middle of the market space. Blanking out of utter shock, she lost her consciousness, holding the napkin where his tears still reside.

"You did well. She will be safe, now." Dante smiled, defying gravity as he floated away to view the base of the Tree of Qliphoth. Feeling very well accomplished and pleased.

Mana disturbed around the tree took her's, obliterating Zenon's view but the screams were enough for him to regret his entire being from a single choice. "GAHHHHH!!!!"

"It's beginning."

Dante sighs in please, satisfied by the results. Although the younger brother simply lost a piece of himself down in the Tree of Qliphoth. Wishing to turn back time. "She'll be fully unharmed, right?"

The emerald-eyed man didn't faze a single look by his younger brother, proceeding to admire the particles of magic that flew around and decorated the base. "Of course. Of course. I give you my trust, brother. I am sure that she will be just fine." His words were not enough to calm his perplexed and troubled heart.

"Those magic matters, you see? It catalysts the process of The Tree of Qliphoth. When we land our hands on them, we will succeed."

His eyes widened, crestfallen as if he was tricked. "She's a sacrifice...?"

"No. We'll take her out right after it fully forms. Then you can have your wifey back." Dante winked his way, falling back to the hard ground, going away from the portal and bone user as well as the Tree's base.

"Promise me."

"Of course. I won't let any of my words fall back." Dante stopped his steps. Turning and facing back to the male with the same look that was placed just a while ago in the meeting room. "Though, if you disappoint me and fail your tasks, I'll let her rot with the other two."

Smiling softly, the devilicious brother coughed a laugh. "Now, run along. We have our own party to attend. Shall we?"

"... I won't disappoint you."

"That's the spirit!! Enjoy your fight! Let your anger towards me over to those lowly rats."

"Understood."

────────────────────────────────

Consumed by the fight, he did what he could. Letting out his anger over to the supposedly strongest brigade of Clover. He did it as fast as he could, that way he can meet her once again. Escaping this room and away from this demon-shit that he brought to her.

Along the way, he fought a mere wind spirit user, something he always despised back in the days. As he fought along with the capable wind mage, he ungodly had flashbacks of how she sat by his side as he wrote down his reports with a single feather.

"Love..." He appeared near the unconscious female who laid close along the two mages of Clover.

Her eyes closed, she shifted in hissing pain as of a bad nightmare. "Love?" Zenon placed his hand down her cheek, realizing how freezing she was even with the coat on her.

"It will be just fine. Trust me..." He smiled, ignoring the other unconscious mages as he only focused himself on her. Seeing how her limbs slowly became numb, he just hoped that this won't lead to a further mess.

"I hope you can hear me. I love you, dear. So much."

Pressing a gentle kiss by her cold lips, he closed his eyes. "We will succeed. And I promise you, we will live together forever. I'm doing this just for us."

────────────────────────────────

"YOU SON OF A BITCH! GIVE ME BACK MY CAPTAIN!" The wind mage appeared through the doors where the weakened devil-user stood for the ritual to complete.

The devil smirked, noticing how the magic madness he left off with a rapier through his chest had become. The wind spirit resides within the true prince of Spade glowering in a despicable amount of mana. "And what are you going to do about it? You're weak."

Yuno, the mage of Clover who came to seek revenge gritted his teeth in fury. Green mana brethering the atmosphere as winds appalled the furniture and decors. The liaison of the left out prince stood where another noble who Zenon didn't recognize with the same expression although a sly tried to crash through Zenon's omnipotence. "I'll kill you... I'll take my revenge for all the deaths you have caused!"

"How sweet."

Yuno glared in a blast, showing his true powers as a mage of the Golden Dawn. "Don't you have a heart?! Did that demon of yours consume you that you don't even have one?!"

Zenon stood frozen by the teen's words. The adult had not responded to that, reminding himself how he could be the reason for his lover's death. Though he pushed the thought aside, coping with his reaction and acting normal. Yet, the noble from the Vaude's family noticed the strange behaviour.

"How stupid are you?! Do you not have any loved ones, to begin with?! Then why are you taking other's friends and families?!?"

The blue shining eyes flashed crimson, cornering the two into spacial magic he owns. "Shut up. You know nothing about what I have been through. You know nothing about loved ones. Your love for them is nothing."

Throwing slashes of winds, bones appeared as notice; blocking the path from passing through bones. "YOU KILLED MY FAMILY! You and your siblings killed my real parents. My kingdom. Half of my team! Now, give me back Captain Vangeance!!!"

A shadow covered past his eyes, a chucklesome smile plastered by the man in his thirties. He shortly spoke in comical leisure. "Funny. It wasn't I who wanted this to start. Yet, I am fighting against the right. Quite a laugh."

Anonymous mana of evil grew around the room, breaking any pathways of wind and offence and defence magic. It was then where the two Golden Dawn members grew a certain type of fear within them. Taking of how the gracious presence of the underworld was like looking over to death itself.

Though this death is so deeply in love with a human that death was ready to do anything to return back the human he loves. He's willing and ready. Killing and going past through pain and despair just to go back to her.

The Vaude prodigy, Langris, noticed every single moment of details. The love in this devil-host's eyes; to his words of defence. Eyes widening in surprise as the dots were all connected.

"But for her, I will do anything. Even if I have to destroy the world."

Langris realized that this villain is in love. This love could literally destroy the world and wipe out humanity.
