Chapter 4 *Escape*
"Dorothy, what are you-" I started to ask her but she cut me off.
"There's a person in there and I'm going to break them out. That woman poisoned Lucas! Who knows what she's been doing to this one." she said, gesturing with her sword to the door.
"Now stand back!" she commanded us.
Jack and I stepped away from her and she swung the sword down hard on the chains but they didn't break. She huffed slightly before swinging it down a gain. And another time. With one more swing, the door burst open to reveal a dark-skinned boy sitting on a bed. He looked up at us.
"Come on, we're getting you out of here," Dorothy told him.
"We?" he asked her in confusion.
Jack stepped out of the shadows from behind us then.
"Us." he said, smiling.
The boy grinned widely, "Jack!"
He enveloped Jack in a hug and I swear, I felt a twinge of jealousy shoot through me at their embrace. But what was I jealous of? He was just a boy who was Jack's friend.
"Alright, come on!" my sister spoke up, turning to leave.
"We have to get out of here now!" Jack told Tim.
The boy grabbed up his belongings and the three of us flew through the corridors of the house. Mombi shouted from her room and I grinned when I saw Lucas's sword stuck through the handle of the door, trapping her inside. My sister and her bright ideas, I thought to myself with a playful roll of my eyes. We ran through the house, collecting medicine and whatever else we might need on our journey.
"Hurry up!" Jack called to me, packing some bottles into his bag.
"I can't leave without Dorothy!" I told him, biting my lip.
"Toto, go!" Dorothy said, gesturing for him to start heading out the door.
She ran over to Lucas and tried to help him stand but he was still too weak.
"Tip, Tip, wait!" Jack suddenly called out and I turned to see him chasing after the other boy who had run outside.
"Come on, Dorothy! We have to go now!" I shouted to her impatiently, slinging my bag over my shoulder.
"Dawn," she said, putting her hands on either side of my face, "Go on ahead! I'll catch up to you!"
I yanked her hands away roughly.
"No, you won't! You're coming with me! We said we'd never be apart, Dor!" I said, my voice almost breaking as tears formed in my chocolate-brown eyes.
Sure, we fought like cats and dogs and there were times when she annoyed me to no end but I still loved her. She was my twin - the one person who understood me like no one else. My other half.
"Dawn, go! I'll find you! I promise!" she shouted over the noise from upstairs.
Hot tears rolled down my cheeks as I ran out of the house then after Jack and Tip. And I never looked back.
