The rest of my day was spent packing. Lady Ev had informed Jack and I that a war was coming. We needed to leave Emerald City. It was too dangerous to stay. I clicked the locks into place on my suitcase and my gaze swept around the room one last time. There was one last thing I needed to do before we left this place. I needed to speak with my twin.

I walked through the halls of the palace before reaching the Wizard's rooms. Dorothy would be here, I'm sure of it. Stepping onto the balcony, I found her talking to the Wizard.

"I need your help," she told him.

"And I need yours," he admitted.

He saw me hovering in the doorway behind her then and shot me a small smile which I hesitantly returned.

"There's still a lot that you two don't know about me," he told us.

I cast my brown eyes to the floor before gazing back up at him.

"Are you our father?" I asked him softly, making Dorothy glance between me and the Wizard.

He was quiet a moment, not saying anything. Crickets chirped in the night air, the only sound to be heard before he spoke up.

"His name was Roberto... Your father. He was a smart man, a kind man. He died in the accident that brought us here. I'm sorry, Dorothy, Dawn... I tried to save him..." he told us.

I felt my heart sink at the revelation and ignored the ache that had formed in my chest. But...but it couldn't be true. There was still something about this man. How could he not be our father?!

"I don't trust you," Dorothy told him quietly, "Look at you. The way you dress, the way you act, that wig. You're just lying to everyone,"

"I could say the same about you two. We do what we need to survive. Which is why I need to ask you: where's the little witch?"

My eyes flicked to my sister who briefly glanced down at the mask she held in her hands.

"I can't tell you that. But if you let her go back to the North, she'll be safe and so will you,"

The Wizard was silent a moment, making me wonder what this was really all about. He got up then and gestured for us to follow him.

"Come! I have a proposition for you two!"
