Chapter 19 * Going on an Adventure *

Jack and I were led to the rooms we'd be staying in, our footsteps echoing loudly on the golden tiled floor of the castle. This was all so strange and different to me. Staying in a place like this. Growing up poor in Kansas, I'd never had the luxury of living in such an extravagant place. We stopped in front of doors across from each other in a long hallway. Jack nodded to me once before slipping inside his room.

I sighed. He was still mad at me. To be honest, it made me feel so unwanted but...there was a part of me that still felt something for him and wanted to protect him from this evil sovereign. I slipped into my own room then and my brown eyes widened. The wallpaper was pink - yuck! - and all sorts of furniture adorned the room. A mahogany wardrobe, king-sized canopy bed, nightstand, full-length mirror, fireplace, crimson rug, and sofa were all packed into the tiny room but surprisingly, it wasn't crowded.

Walking over to the wardrobe, I pulled on the knobs, half-expecting to find Narnia hiding in there. The double doors creaked loudly as they opened, revealing a set of long, beautiful dresses. I frowned. Drat. Well, there goes my fantasies of eating Turkish Delight with Edmund. The dresses looked medieval but magnificent nonetheless.

Smiling, I let my fingers glide over them before resting on an emerald-green one. I pulled it off its hangar and stepping over to the mirror, held it up to my body. The silky material slipped through my fingers like water and it brought out the color in my eyes. This was definitely the one. I got ready quickly. Pompous princess told us we were going to Emerald City.

Part of me was excited to go to a new city. But part of me was nervous as well. What if Dorothy had already made it there? It had seemed like yesterday - that day I'd escaped Mombi's house with Jack and Tip. But I'd been journeying with them for three months. And it had been forever since I'd last seen my twin.

Finding a suitcase laid out by my bed, I picked it up and began to fill it with dresses. It was going to be a long stay, I supposed. And if it was, I'd need several dresses to last me.
