chapter six:
the monster

RUNNING WAS THE ONLY thing keeping Evelyn and Nancy alive and away from the monster. The same monster that has taken Barb and Will.

"Jonathan! Sabrina!" Nancy kept calling out as she held a firm tight hold on Evelyn's hand. Evelyn was to afraid to speak, fearing that the monster will come out of nowhere and take her, the same way it taken Barb and Will.

"Jonathan! Sabrina! We are right here" Nancy kept yelling out in hopes that they will hear her.

Evelyn and Nancy kept running back in circles trying to figure out where Jonathan and Sabrina was at.

"Evelyn! Nancy! Just follow our voice! We are right here" Evelyn heard Sabrina call out. Nancy and Evelyn kept running until they stopped to catch their breath and hopefully hear Jonathan and Sabrina again.

Evelyn heard something snap and as she turned towards the sound, she saw the same monster that was eating the deer. Nancy must of taken notice of it as well as the monster growled at the two girls.

Nancy gasped in fear as her and Evelyn ran. "Nancy hide behind that tree" Evelyn told Nancy as she hid behind the tree that they crawled out of.

Nancy hid behind the tree that was next to Evelyn. The two girls heard the monster getting closer to where they were hiding. Evelyn looked towards where Nancy was to find the monster walking behind the tree.

Nancy looked towards Evelyn who placed her finger on her lips indicating Nancy to be quiet since the monster was behind the tree. Nancy closed her eyes, scared that if she made one single move that the monster will get her.

"Nancy! Evelyn! Follow my voice" Evelyn and Nancy heard which was coming from the same tree that Evelyn was hiding behind.

They heard the monster growling from a far distance which could give the two girls some time to get out before it could actually find them.

Nancy started heading towards where Evelyn was at. "Who should go first?" Nancy questioned as she kept  looking around to make sure the monster wasn't around.

"You go first, I'll keep an eye out incase it comes back" Evelyn told Nancy. Nancy looked at Evelyn with worried laced on her face. "Are you crazy? What if it does come back and you can't get out" Nancy questioned.

"I'll figure something out but Nancy go. I'll be right behind you, I promise" Evelyn held out her pinkie as she can tell that Nancy didn't fully believe her.

"Please come back" Nancy told her as she looped her pinkie with Evelyn's, sealing the promise. Nancy sighed before crawling back into the hole.

Meanwhile, Jonathan and Sabrina kept a close look on the slimy hole in the tree. Jonathan kept whispering Nancy and Evelyn's name in hope that the two girls will hear him.

"Nancy? Evelyn?" Jonathan whispered as he got more closer to the hole. Before he can call out again, Nancy's hand was thrown out towards him to grab.

"Jonathan" Nancy called out as the monster growled louder. Jonathan grabbed tightly on Nancy's arm and started pulling her out. Nancy fell right on top of Jonathan as he got her out.

"I got you" Jonathan kept whispering to Nancy as she held tightly on him. "Nancy, where is Evelyn?"
Nancy heard Sabrina call out.

Nancy pulled away from Jonathan's grasp and looked towards the hole. "She should be coming. She promised me that she was going to be right behind me" Nancy told Sabrina.

"Well she's not Nancy" Sabrina snapped at the girl. She didn't mean to but the fact that her best friend will still on the other side with that monster, made her worry that she was never going to see her again.

"I'm going in there" Sabrina told them as she started placing the axe down on the ground along with Evelyn's stuff. "You can't go in there" Jonathan told her as he kept trying to convince her not to go.

"My best friend is in there with a monster who has not taken just Will but also Barb. I'm going in there and saving her. I can't just stand her and not do anything besides I don't want to go to her house and tell her little brother that his sister is gone. Do you know how heartbroken Dustin will be?" Sabrina told him but before she can fully get ready to go in the  hole, a hand shot out from the tree.

"Evelyn!" Nancy called out as she grabbed onto her hand and started pulling her out the same way Jonathan did. "Nancy!" Evelyn called out as she saw the monster start to come close.

Before the monster can fully get her, Evelyn was pulled out from the tree and fell on the ground next to Nancy. "Evelyn" Sabrina called out as she pulled her best friend into a hug.

"You okay?" Sabrina kept muttering out as she taken notice how shaken up Evelyn is. "Evelyn, what happened? You said you were right behind me, you promised" Nancy gently asked her as she noticed that Evelyn's focus was on the tree.

"It came back. It heard you scream and it started to come back. So I knew that if I automatically followed you that it will get me... so I ran and I hid again. It almost got me but I ran and crawled as fast as I can back into the hole. Luckily you got me out" Evelyn told her. She was still shaken up about the whole thing.

"Let's get you guys home." Jonathan whispered as he started grabbing everyone's stuff. But Evelyn's focus was only on the tree. Evelyn remembered that Dustin mentioned an upside down, a gate of some kind and she believes she found it.

Sabrina pulled up into the Henderson's household and parked Evelyn's car. She looked towards Evelyn who decided that she shouldn't drive since she was still a little shaken up.

"Do you want me to stay the night?" Sabrina questioned as they both started getting out of the car. "If you can. I just really don't want to be alone right now" Evelyn told Sabrina as they started heading towards the front door.

"Of course, I'll just call my parents while you get settled" Sabrina told her as they walked into the house. Evelyn noticed the house was quiet meaning both her mom and Dustin could be asleep.

"Oh good, you're home. Mom was beginning to get worried" Evelyn heard Dustin say as he spotted her while walking back to his room after using the bathroom.

Evelyn turned towards where her little brother was standing. Dustin's face completely changed from being all smiling to worried mixed with confusion. "Evelyn! What happened?" Dustin questioned his sister as she walked past him into her room.

Dustin looked toward where Sabrina was at. "What happened to my sister?" He questioned. "That's something she has to tell you but be grateful she came back because I really didn't want to tell you that she was gone" Sabrina told him as she walked past him.

"Gone? What do you mean by gone? Evelyn, what happened?" Dustin questioned again as he followed the two best friends who were in Evelyn's room.

"Dustin, remember how you mentioned the upside down and how there was like this gate?" Evelyn slightly questioned as she sat down on the edge of her bed playing with her fingers.

"Yea? Why?" Dustin answered as he sat down next to her. He didn't care the she smelled like she went swimming in the dumpster. All he cared about was the she was safe. "I think I found it" Evelyn whispered as she looked towards her brother.

"What do you mean found it?" Dustin was shocked to say the least. "Dustin, I was in the upside down. The monster that might of taken Will, it was in there as well and it almost got me but I got out before it did" Evelyn told him. She didn't want to mention anything about Nancy being in there as well, since Nancy probably doesn't want Mike to know.

"That's what Sabrina meant by gone. It almost got you. Which means you probably wouldn't be here right now" Dustin had tears streaming down his eyes, he didn't know he was crying until Evelyn wiped a tear off his face. "I'm okay" Evelyn told him as she pulled him into a hug.

Dustin held tightly onto his sister, not caring that dirt and a little bit of slime was getting on him. He's just scared that if he lets go than she won't be there. He slightly cried into his sisters shoulder as she placed her chin on his head and rubbed his back slightly. "I'm okay" she kept muttering, trying everything to calm him down.

Sabrina watched everything unfold. She was extremely grateful that Evelyn came back safe because if she didn't than Dustin will be the one hugging her and crying to her instead of his sister.

The next day, Evelyn and Sabrina were told to meet Nancy plus Jonathan in front of a hardware store. Nancy and Jonathan came to the conclusion that the monster only possibly feeds out on blood. So they decided that tonight, they were going to lure it out and kill it once and for all.

Evelyn and Sabrina leaned against Jonathan's car as they waited for the two to get done getting what they needed. "Your brother was really shaken up last night" Sabrina mentioned.

"Yea, so was I" Evelyn told Sabrina. Evelyn barley got any sleep due to the fact that she was afraid that if she did fall asleep that she will be back in the upside down. "I'm really glad you are okay" Evelyn heard Sabrina tell her.

"I was going to come in and get you" Sabrina told her. Evelyn looked up towards Sabrina. "I didn't want to lose my best friend. I didn't want to go to your house and tell your little brother that you were gone and watch as his cries and pleads for his sister to come back. I didn't want to lose you Evelyn"

Evelyn pulled Sabrina into a hug. "I'm not going anywhere, I promise. You, Dustin and the whole town of Hawkins will be stuck with me forever" Evelyn told Sabrina as they pulled back from the hug. "I can live with that" Sabrina told her.

Before Evelyn can say anything else, Nancy and Jonathan walked out of the hardware store. Jonathan was carrying a box that had bear traps in it and Nancy was carrying a gasoline tank plus a bag with tools in it.

"Monster Hunting?" Jonathan questioned Nancy as they got closer to where Evelyn and Sabrina was at.
Nancy smiled at Jonathan's comment, a smile that didn't go unnoticed by both Evelyn and Sabrina.

"You know, last week.. I was shopping for a new top that I though Steve might like. It took me and Barb all weekend" Nancy started stating out as they started putting the stuff in Jonathan's trunk. "It seem like life or death, you know? And ... and now "

"You're shopping for bear traps with Jonathan Byers. Along side Evelyn Henderson and Sabrina Bensen" Jonathan finished off as he closed his trunk and locked it.

"Yeah" Nancy muttered out. "Sorry to like interrupt, what was a good conversation but what exactly did you all buy?" Sabrina questioned as she crossed her arms over her chest.

But her question got ignored as Jonathan asked Nancy what the weirdest part was. Him or the bear traps. "You. It's definitely you" Nancy told him.

Sabrina looked at Evelyn. "They just completed ignored my question" She told Evelyn who slightly laughed at Sabrina's facial expression. "I can see that" Evelyn told her as she looped her arm around Sabrina's.

A car honk it was got all fours attention. "Hey Nance. Can't wait to see your movie" a young man that was around their age called out as him and his friend laughed as they drove off.

"Who the hell was that?" Sabrina questioned. "I have no idea. I think his name is John. John something, I don't know" Evelyn told her.

"Nancy where are you going?" Evelyn called out as she watched Nancy run across the street to where the movie theatre was. Jonathan kept yelling out Nancy's name in hopes for her to stop running.

Evelyn and Sabrina followed behind the two and stopped where Nancy was at and what was written on the theatre sign is what shocked Evelyn. All The Right Moves Starring Nancy ' The Slut ' Wheeler

"What the hell" Evelyn whispered as she looked towards where Nancy was at. "Who the hell will do this?" Sabrina stated.

Laughter can be heard in an ally way next to the theatre. "I think I may know who" Evelyn stated as she followed Nancy who was heading towards the ally way.

"Tommy, you write like a three year old" Carol told him as he was finishing up his writing. Of course, Evelyn thought. Steve and his goons would have something to do with this.

Carol taken notice on Nancy and Evelyn walking towards them. "Aw, hey there, Princess!" Carol told Nancy.

Steve turned towards Nancy who looked upset. He adverted his eyes from Nancy to Evelyn who looked completely pissed off, which made Steve start to feel bad on what he done.

Steve was cut out of his trance when Nancy slapped him. "Oh wow, Nancy. Slap him again" Evelyn told her as Carol and Tommy plus their new friend Nicole was chanting damn.

"What is wrong with you?" Nancy questioned Steve who wasn't faced by her slap. "What's wrong with me? What's wrong with you? I was worried about you. I can't believe that I was actually worried about you" Steve told her.

"Which is a surprise since he always worried about Ms.Henderson over here" Tommy called out as he pointed to Evelyn who only ignored his comment.

"What are you talking about?" Nancy questioned as she was confused on what Steve was saying. "I wouldn't lie if I were you. You don't want to be known as the lying slut now, do you?" Carol questioned.

"Carol, for once in your life just shut the hell up. Besides thought that word was reserved for you and you only" Evelyn told her as she got slightly in front of Nancy.

Evelyn felt someone grab her arm and she looked behind her to see that both Nancy and Sabrina was the one holding her arm. Nancy shook her head towards Evelyn, indicating that she didn't want a fight to happen between them two even though she did appreciate her standing up for her.

"Speak of the devil" Tommy called out as Jonathan was seen walking towards the group. Nancy looked between Jonathan and Steve. "You came by last night" Nancy questioned.

"Ding! Ding! Ding! Does she get a prize?" Carol sarcastically questioned. "I saw some duck tap in the hardware store window just screaming your name Carol. Maybe that way your mouth can officially stay closed" Sabrina told her as Carol rolled her eyes.

"Look, I don't know what you think you saw, but it wasn't like that. " Nancy stated out to Steve who kept his eyes on Jonathan who was standing next to Evelyn and Sabrina.

"What, you just let him into your room to... study?" Steve firmly questioned as he put his focus back on Nancy. "Or for another pervy photo session" Tommy stated while laughing.

"Tommy, you should stay out of it. For once not everything has to involve you and your girlfriends comment. Besides I don't know what you all believe you saw, but we all had a very insane night last night so let's all just forget about this and move on. Let's just stop going into assumptions and accusing someone of doing something they didn't" Evelyn told everyone in hopes they will all move on.

Steve looked towards where Evelyn was at just to find her staring at him. He saw some sort of pleading in her eyes, begging for him to let whatever is going on go. He also noticed a little bit of fear in her eyes as she mentioned last night. The only thing now running through his head was what happened last night to make his girl... well not his girl feel scared.

"We were just" Nancy tried stating out after Evelyn's statement. "You were just what? Finish that sentence" Steve told her. "Finish the sentence"

Evelyn really couldn't believe what was going on. She doesn't know what happened last night after Sabrina and her left but she didn't care for that at the moment. All she cared about was finding the monster and killing it before it takes someone else.

"Go to hell, Nancy" Evelyn heard Steve tell Nancy. Nancy just shook her head, she couldn't believe what Steve was saying or what she thinks he saw last night.

"Come on, Nancy, let's just leave" Jonathan told her as he pulled her away from the group as Evelyn and Sabrina started walking away.

"You know what, Byers? I'm actually kind of impressed. I always took you for a queer, but I guess you're just, a little screw up like your father" Steve told him as he kept pushing Jonathan.

"Jonathan, just ignore him. Don't listen to anything he says" Evelyn told him as she noticed what he was saying to Jonathan was getting him angry.

"Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that house is full of screw ups" Steve kept saying. "Steve, shut up" Sabrina called out but Steve ignored her and kept taunting Jonathan.

"You know, I guess I shouldn't really be surprised. A bunch of screw ups in your family. I mean your mom... I'm not even surprised what happened to your brother" Steve kept calling out.

"Jonathan, let's just go" Evelyn told him as Steve kept calling out more words towards Jonathan. Even Nancy was trying to get Jonathan to let it go.

But Jonathan had enough as he turned towards Steve and punched him right in the face. "Jonathan" Evelyn called out as she watch Steve turn towards Jonathan.

Steve threw himself towards Jonathan which resulted them landing on top of his car. "Oh!" Tommy called out.

"Steve" Nancy called out, hoping that whatever he was about to do will get him to stop. "Evelyn, they are fighting. I never imagined I will see Jonathan Byers and Steve Harrington go head to head. Pinch me, I have to see if I'm not dreaming" Sabrina told her as she watched Steve and Jonathan fight.

"Sabrina! Really?" Evelyn told her but all Sabrina did was shrug her shoulder as she was to invested in the fight. Evelyn heard a car pull up behind her. She turned around to see Officer Powell and Officer Callahan getting out of their vehicle to stop the fight.

"Shit" Evelyn whispered as she watch the two officers pull Jonathan and Steve apart with the help of Tommy, which resulted in Officer Callahan getting elbowed in the face by Jonathan.

Evelyn watched as Steve ran off with Tommy as Officer Powell started arresting Jonathan. "Well shit, what a great way to start our day. Am I right?" Sabrina called out as everyone looked at her.

"Officer Powell, you looking great. So is Officer Callahan" Sabrina told the officer who kept a firm hold on Jonathan as he waited for his partner to come back.

"Sabrina, please be quiet" Evelyn told her best friend who started to rock back and forth on her heels. Officer Callahan came back shortly, no Steve Harrington in sight.

"They are gone. Your boyfriend is fast young lady" Officer Callahan stated as he pointed towards Evelyn as he tried to catch his breath. Nancy looked towards where Evelyn was at, she was confused on why the officer thought Steve was Evelyn's boyfriend.

"Again, he's not my boyfriend" Evelyn muttered out but she can tell the officers weren't listening to anything she was saying but she did hear Sabrina let out a quiet laugh.

It's as if this day can't get any worse. Little did she know, the plans that she was going to have later on in the day.
