Chapter 16

Kayla's eyes shot open and she gasped for breath as she sat up. Her hand instantly flew to her chest as she attempted to calm her beating heart. She remembered everything. To calm herself down, she began looking around at her surroundings. Confusion flooded her system as she realized she wasn't in the apartment in New York anymore. She was, instead, lying in somebody's bed. She felt movement next to her and she quickly moved the blankets to see what was there. She finally started to calm down once she saw that it was only Kol.

A few moments later, Kol sat up in a panic, having almost the same exact reaction she had just had. She lightly chuckled as she wrapped her arms around him, "Good morning sunshine." she mused as she laid her head on his shoulder. She wasn't worried about their location, or even about the change she knew was happening at that very moment, she only cared about Kol.

"Kayla," he sighed in relief as he wrapped his arms around her. "Or should I say, Persephone." his tone was teasing, but Kayla couldn't help but notice how his body tensed up and how he seemed to be unable to relax. She grabbed his hand with hers and sighed deeply, "So many things are confusing now."

"I know. I wish I could turn back time and change things." Kol solemnly replied. He hated that he wasn't able to prevent the situation from happening altogether.

Kayla pulled away from Kol slightly so that she was able to look into his eyes, a sad expression came across her face, "What do you think happened to our baby?"

Kol hesitated to answer her question, "Darling, I honestly don't know. But I'm sure he's okay. They wouldn't kill him."

Kayla nodded her head, but her worries were still there. She had only gotten to spend a few months with her newborn baby before the spell had been cast upon them. She hated that she missed everything. His first steps, his first words, his first everything. He was more than likely an adult already and that thought caused her to feel a deep sadness. She never got to experience the joys of motherhood.

"What are you thinking about?" Kol inquired as he gently grabbed her chin and led her eyes to his. He was looking at her with concern, he could tell not knowing what happened to their son was deeply troubling her.

"I'd rather not talk about it." Kayla replied softly. She felt a stab of guilt as she watched his face drop slightly and his eyes flash with hurt. But she knew that if she began to talk about her baby, it would just make her pain that much more real.

Kol nodded and let the subject go. He pushed the covers off of him and began to look around, trying to figure out where they were. The room's walls were built out of a type of stone and the main color of the room seemed to be a deep red. He walked over to a desk that was dimly lit by a lamp and began flicking through the papers laying on it.

"What does it say?" Kayla asked from her spot on the bed. She had raised up and had been watching Kol explore. She felt that it was odd that nobody had come to check on them yet, and she was starting to wonder where Pan was. But before her thoughts could travel any further, Kol began reading off one of the papers he had found.

"It's been 146 years since the spell has been cast and we've seen no sign of Hades or Persephone's birth. Their child's powers have grown tremendously in the past few years and Zeus has started to allow him to visit the underworld occasionally. He often asks about his parents, but we all avoid his questions. We're afraid that he might rebel against Zeus if he were to know the truth."

Kol stopped reading for a moment and glanced back to check on Kayla. Her head was down as she listened to his words, and tears were beginning to gather in her eyes. He took a deep unneeded breath and started reading off a different page,

"It's now been 200 years and we finally have found Hades. He's already been turned into an immortal being and we're positive he's going to search for Persephone until the end of time. Damien finally realized the truth and has been helping us keep an eye on him, he wants to meet him but we told him that Hades doesn't remember anything. That was enough to keep him away for the time being."

Kayla interrupted his reading, "Damien... that's our son." she felt relief surge in her body, "He's okay." she gave Kol a bright smile as tears of happiness rolled down her cheeks. He gave her a smile back, "He's okay." he confirmed. Both of them were feeling as if a heavy weight had been lifted off their shoulders. They had been worried that Damien had been murdered after they had disappeared.

"I'm going to continue reading now," Kol paused as Kayla nodded at him. He scanned a few different pages and once one caught his attention, he picked it up and began reading, "I've lost count of how many years it has been, but we've finally found Persephone. She shows signs of being able to hear Hades, even though they've never met in person. We're hoping that in a few years they can meet so that we can finally break the spell. Damien abandoned us years ago in anger, he was getting tired of us telling him that he couldn't see his parents. We haven't been able to find him, but we're positive he'll show up once they remember."

Kayla sighed in defeat and laid back down on one of the soft pillows. She really wanted to see her son, but she didn't know how she could contact him.

Kol put down the papers and sat down on the bed next to his soulmate. "I'm sure he's okay."

"Yeah." she said in a soft voice. She was starting to feel like a completely different person now that she had her memories back. She didn't even want to go around her sister and mother as she realized they weren't even truly related. She didn't feel like 'Kayla', she felt like Persephone.

A few hours later, somebody loudly knocked on the door of the room they were in. They had tried opening the door already, but it hadn't budged. This caused Kayla to start to become panicked as she realized they were being held captive.

"Come in!" Kol called out sarcastically. It wasn't like they could open the door as it was locked from the outside. Once the door was open, Kol flashed over and grabbed the person by the neck, ignoring the fact that it was Pan. He slammed the door shut and pushed him against the wall. "Well, look who finally decided to pay us a visit."

"I-is now a b-bad time?" Pan choked out as he pried at Kol's fingers.

"That depends on your definition of bad." Kayla replied in boredom from her spot on the bed. She stood up and walked over to stand by Kol. "Where are we?" she demanded to know. She placed her hand on Kol's shoulder, signaling for him to let the boy go so he could speak.

"Make one wrong move and I'll snap your neck." Kol snarled at the boy as he dropped him to the ground. Pan nodded his head in acknowledgment and slowly stood up. He stood stiff as a board as he spoke, "You're in my room. We're still in New York, but we're just in a different house. I was worried Scar was going to find us so I moved you guys."

Kayla was doubtful of the words he spoke, but nodded nonetheless. "You said that Pan wasn't your actual name, so tell us, what is your name?"

Pan seemed to freeze for a moment under the watchful gaze of Kol and Kayla, he sighed deeply before he spoke again, "My name is Paul. Thanatos and Damien hired me to watch you guys after hey found Kol."

"Do you know our son well?" Kol asked, he was still watching Paul suspiciously, but he seemed to relax a bit after he heard the names of who he was working for. He always trusted Thanatos.

"Yeah you could say that." Paul snorted, amused. "After all, he is my husband."

"You're married to my son?!"

"My son is married?!"

"Hi Mom, hi Dad."
