Chapter 1
CHAPTER 1:
Kayla Forbes skipped down the stairs humming a tune. She wasn't sure what was wrong with her. All she knew is she woke up super happy. She could feel a change in the air.
"Morning darling." Kol's voice rung in her head. Her body tingled at the sound of his voice. She still was angry that Klaus has him daggered, but there's nothing she can do.
"Hey Kol!" she chimed back, heading towards the front door. This was a habit for her. When he first came into her head, he used to keep her up all night. But, eight years later and she doesn't want him to stop talking.
"Kayla!" Caroline yelled to her. She stopped and looked at her sister with furrowed eyebrows. "Yes Care?" she asked.
Caroline nervously rubbed her hands. "You have to come to the masquerade ball tonight. We're planning on killing Katherine." she said excitement buzzing through her.
Kayla kept a unemotional face mask on as she stared at her sister. Katherine and her had gotten close over the time she terrorized her friends. The only reason Katherine even bothered talking to her was because of her soulmate.
"Sure, I'll be there." she said with fake enthusiasm. Caroline nodded and left her standing there. Kayla knew she wouldn't say anything. She wasn't particularly close to any of the girls. The only person who was truly a friend was Damon.
She used to hang out with Damon all the time. Kayla would go to bars with him, sleep over sometimes, even have girl talk. He would keep her secrets, and she would keep his.
But then Kol got jealous of their bond. According to him, he doesn't like anyone touching what's his. Kayla put up a fight, but when Damon kissed her, she decided to cut off their friendship. They haven't spoken since their argument went down.
"You're not talkative today." Kol whined. Kayla swore he was like a little kid sometimes. She got in her car and started driving towards the school.
"They're killing Katherine today." she said, rolling her eyes. He could see everything through her eyes, so when he made her come out and say what was going on, she would get a bit annoyed.
"So stop them." He replied. She stomped on the brake as someone drove in front of her. The car swerved and almost went into the ditch.
She growled in her head,"I can't!" Kol didn't say anything back. He was just concerned. Ever since she got a car, he had been trying to convince her not to drive it. Now here she was about to wreck.
Kol could feel his soul calling out for hers. The overwhelming feeling of longing caused him to go silent during the rest of the ride.
Slamming her locker shut, Kayla rolled her eyes. Kol refused to talk to her unless she stopped driving, and she had to go see her friend get killed.
She was tired of everyone dying and leaving her. Caroline and her friends wouldn't even acknowledge her unless they needed something. They were still angry at Kayla for getting Damon to let her in, and then breaking his heart. Although she doesn't even know why half of them care since most of the time they talk bad about him.
"Watch where your going!" she snapped at the person who ran into her. Looking up, she realized it was Stefan. Glaring, she tried to sidestep him, but he moved in her way and gripped her arm tightly, causing pain to shoot up her arm. He pulled her into an empty classroom, shutting the door behind them.
"What is your problem?" he growled deeply. But Kayla knew he wasn't concerned about her well being, he wanted something else. Stefan had always had some sort of issue with her. Lately he had been getting a bit rough with her.
"Let go of me." she hissed at him through her clenched teeth. She tried to pull her arm away, to no avail. The classroom was lit up by a small window, her eyes flickered around, looking for a weapon she could use. There wasn't enough light for her to see much around her, and the grip Stefan had on her kept her from finding something good.
Stefan wrapped his other hand lightly around her neck. Something was wrong with him, Kayla just didn't know what yet. He was acting so out of character.
Stefan stared deeply into her eyes, causing her to feel extremely uncomfortable. When he started to lean towards her, she took that as an opportunity and slammed her head into his. He let go of her and put his hand on his head. Kayla shot out of the room as fast as she could, she blended in easily with the other students and didn't bother looking back.
Head held high, Kayla entered the Masquerade Ball with a smile, trying to forget about her little run in with Stefan. She noticed Elena coming her way, and was about to turn around and go the opposite way but noticed she was smirking.
Grinning like a Cheshire Cat, Kayla jumped on Katherine, giving her a right hug. "They're trying to kill you, Kat." she whispered low enough for only her to hear.
Kayla pulled back and put on a straight face again. "Elena." she said coldly.
Katherine frowned, not liking the idea of not being able to talk to her only friend. She went to speak, but Kayla was already gone.
Kayla was walking outside when she heard screams. "Jeremy, it's Katherine. She's linked to Katherine, get them to stop! Now!" Bonnie yelled. Kayla walked forward as he left.
Kneeling down, Kayla put a hand on Elena's shoulder as comfort. "She's a bitch though." Kol complained.
Kayla chuckled lightly, earning questioning looks from Bonnie and Elena. "Can't disagree there." she retorts. She was brought back to the present with a scream and cry from Elena.
"Bonnie, it hurts!" Elena sobbed. Kayla couldn't help but feel a little sympathy for her. "I can't break the spell, Elena. I'm sorry but I can try to take some of the pain away. Okay?" Bonnie asked.
When Elena nodded, Kayla watched curiously as Bonnie starts chanting. "Ascinda, mulaf, hinto, ascinda..."
Jeremy walked up to them looking worried. No one seemed to notice Kayla was zoning out and not paying much attention to what was going on.
"Are you okay?" he asked. Elena slightly nodded, her tears drying up. "Are they?" she asked him.
"They're stuck in there with her," he glanced at Kayla before turning his attention to Bonnie, "You were right; Katherine had a witch that linked Elena to her."
Bonnie's eyes went wide as she began to think. "The girl I saw, the one inside! Stay with her, keep pressure on her shoulder!" she exclaimed before standing up.
"Where are you going?" Jeremy asked anxiously. Bonnie sighed, "There's another witch here, I'm gonna find her!"
Jeremy removed his magical ring and handed it to Elena. She glanced at it and shook her head. "No." Jeremy sighed, "Take it." Elena kept refusing, which Kayla noticed. She started to feel quite angry over this.
"Elena listen to me: you need this more than I do." he insisted. "No Jeremy. What I need is for you to be safe." Elena smiled.
Huffing Kayla shot a look at the both of them. "Stop fucking fighting and take the ring. This could be your last moment together, Elena, do you really want him to remember you as the girl who didn't accept his help? "
Elena looked offended at what she had said, but Jeremy was fighting back a laugh. Kayla just smirked, and walked off a little ways.
"I want to be with you, Stefan. You know that but first, I need to wake up and know that the people that I love are safe. I need to feel safe. Do you understand?" Kayla heard Elena say. To her, it makes her more of a bitch than before.
"Yeah. Yeah, I understand." Stefan says. Kayla started walking towards their direction and noticed Elena walking off.
"Don't follow her. She brings trouble." Kol warned. Kayla ignored him and walked up to Elena.
"You didn't have to be such a bitch." Kayla said, hiding the fact the she actually enjoyed what just happened.
Elena sighed annoyed, "I'm sorry I had to hurt him, but I can't put him in danger."
Kayla rolled her eyes and pulled Elena towards the parking lot. "That sounds incredibly selfish, but also unselfish. Does that make sense?" Kayla said confused, losing her train of thought. Elena just shook her head, used to the girls antics.
"Whatever. Call Jeremy, I'm taking you home." Kayla sighed deeply as she pulled her keys out of her clutch.
"Yeah Jeremy, I've got Kayla driving." Elena started as Jeremy began rambling. "Tell Bonnie that whatever she did, I'm starting to feel better."
Kayla tapped her foot impatiently, wanting their conversation to end.
"Yeah, you can drive her home. I'm just gonna go straight to bed. Okay."
"C'mon let-" Kayla started. She was cut off by a someone grabbing her and putting a cloth over her mouth. She felt her keys slip from her hand as she started to lose consciousness. The last thing she heard was Kol's frantic voice.
"Kayla, wake up! You need to wake up!" Kol's voice rang through her head. Kayla groaned and sat up.
"What do you want?" she heard Elena asked. She opened her eyes, and was shocked at the sight in front of her. "Shh." Trevor hushed her. Elena kept talking, making Kayla roll her eyes at her ignorance.
"Please, I'm hurt." The doppelganger pleaded. "I know. Just a taste." Trevor whispered as he started vamping out. Kayla had always thought the transformation was interesting, and found herself staring at him. Before he could get a taste, a girls voice rang through the room.
"Trevor! Control yourself!" Rose yelled. Kayla laughed, earning a glare from Elena. "Buzz kill." Trevor mumbled as he left.
Rose looked at the two girls, studying them. Kayla just smiled brightly, whereas Elena looked frightened. "What do you want with me?" Elena whimpered.
"Oh my god, you look just like her." Rose said, ignoring her question. "But I'm not. Please, whatever you..." Elena started.
"Be quiet!" Rose snapped. "Dear God, Elena, shut the hell up! Your mouth will just make things worse." Kayla said angrily. "But I'm not Katherine. My name is Elena Gilbert; you don't have to do this." Elena continued.
"I know who you are, I said be quiet." Rose hissed. Kayla felt as if she was about to murder someone. "What do you want?" Elena asked again. Rose had had enough and she slapped her across her face, successfully knocking her out. "I want you to be quiet."
Kayla let out a sigh of relief, "Finally! She would've never stopped." Rose looked at the girl curiously, wondering why she wasn't scared like the other human.
"Hello Rose." Kayla smirked. She remembered them from Kol's memories. "500 years is a long time to run." the words fell carelessly out of her mouth.
Rose looked frightened, "How do you know that?"
Kayla smirked while looking at her blood red fingernails. She loosely hung her right leg off the couch she was laying on.
Kol snickered in her head. "You have looks that can kill." he said amused. "By the way. They are most likely handing Elena over to one of my brothers. You're family now, so they won't harm you. Just tell them I'll kill them if they touch you."
"How are they?" Kayla heard Rose ask from nearby. Elena finally started waking up, making Kayla annoyed. "Still passed out. The other is just creepy." Trevor replied, making Kayla laugh softly.
"You didn't touch them, did you?" Rose asked. Kayla laid her head back on the arm of the couch and continued listening.
"Give me some credit. So, did you call him." Trevor asks.
"No, I called one of his contacts. You know how this works." Rose replied agitated. "Did you, or did you not, get the message to Elijah?" Trevor pressed.
Kayla smiled. She was going to be okay. "They said he got it." Rose mumbled. "Wonderful, and what..?" Trevor tried to get her to continue. Finally Rose snapped. Elena starts listening to their conversation also. "So that's it Trevor. He either got it or he didn't. We just have to wait."
Trevor anxiously began pacing. "Look, it's not too late. We can leave it here. We don't have to go through with this." Rose glared at her friend. "I'm sick of running!" she yelled.
"Yeah? Well, running keeps us from dying." Trevor sighs. "Elijah's old school. If he accepts our deal, we're free." Rose shrugs. Kayla was officially amused. One of them were going to die. It was inevitable.
She glanced up just as she realized Elena was walking down the hall. Kayla smiled as Elena stepped on a floor board that caused a loud creaking noise causing Rose to notice her.
"You! There's nothing around here from miles. If you think you're getting out of this house, you're tragically wrong. Understand?" Rose snapped. Elena ignored her. "Who's Elijah?"
"He's your worst nightmare." Kayla said creepily. "For you guys anyways." she smiled innocently and closed her eyes.
"He's here! This was a mistake!" Trevor yelled, pacing the floorboards. Kayla just watched, knowing what was going to soon happen.
"No, I told you I would get us out of this. You have to trust me." Rose pleaded with him.
"No! He wants me dead, Rose!" Trevor exclaimed. "He wants her more." Rose told him. "I can't do this. You give her to him, he'll let you leave but I need to get out of here." Trevor stated.
"Hey! What are we?" Rose asked.
"We're family, forever." Trevor replied.
Kayla started to get annoyed with all the mushy family stuff, and instead started to think about Kol. Her thoughts soon took a dirty turn as she was thinking about what they were doing to do when they finally met in person.
"Keep thinking that way and I'm going to bend you over and fuck your brains out the second I see you." Kol said huskily, causing Kayla to get aroused, which didn't go gonna unnoticed by Trevor's strong sense of smell.
Kayla's face got hot and turned bright red. She avoided making eye contact with anybody in the room.
Rose soon entered with a man in a suit. Kayla recognized him from Kol's memories.
"He looks like he hasn't aged a day." Kayla laughed in her mind.
"Well, he is only an immortal vampire love." Kol replied, trying to humor the girl.
Elijah vampire sped in front of Elena and leant down to smell her neck. "Human. It's impossible. Hello there."
Elijah then suddenly turned his head to see Kayla. He lightly sniffed the air and then stared at Kayla in shock. "You smell like him." he marveled. Kayla smirked, her brown eyes brightening at the mention of her soulmate. "Kol says he'll kill you if you touch me."
Elijah smiled, amused. "Hello Sister."
Elena looked between the two bewildered. Kayla just laughed happily, "Hello, brother."
"We have a long journey head of us. We should be going." Elijah said as he stared at the girls. "Please, don't let him take me." Elena pleads. Kayla rolled her eyes and looked at Trevor as Elijah headed towards him.
"One last piece of business and we're done." Elijah said, his voice void of emotion. "I've waited so long for this day, Elijah. I'm truly, very sorry." Trevor said, still tense in fear.
"Oh no, your apologies are not necessary." Elijah said amused. Kayla could see where this was going, and so she watched with interest. She couldfeel Kol looking through her eyes too, making his presence in her known to the vampires in the room. Elijah glanced at her and she nodded to confirm that Kol was indeed watching.
Elijah started circling Trevor as he rambled. "Yes, yes it is. You trusted me with Katerina and I failed you."
"Oh yes you are the guilty one and Rose helped you because she was loyal to you and that now I honor. Where was your loyalty?" Elijah asked.
"I beg your forgiveness." Trevor says as Elijah stopped next to him. "So granted." Trevor smiled, but Elijah slammed his arm against Trevor's head, causing it to go flying.
Kayla's eyes sparked up at the scene, she could feel Kol smiling devishly, making her grin. Rose started to cry as Elena gasped. Blood was splattered everywhere. Since where Kayla was laying was so close, blood got on her red dress. "This was new too." she stuck her lip out and pouted.
As Elena and Elijah began to talk, Kayla began to converse with Kol.
"That was amazing. I think I like your brother." Kayla mused, picking dirt out from underneath her fingernails.
"Not more than me I hope." Kol said, his voice teasing. "I'd have to kill my own brother."
Kayla laughed, "You don't have to worry about that. Your the one for me."
Kayla was brought back to the present when she heard screaming, and things exploding. She quickly stood up and quietly walked to where the commotion was. Hiding, she peeked out and saw that Elijah had been staked. Stefan and Elena were in a loving embrace.
"Where's Kayla?" Damon asked. Elena's face went cold. "She called him brother!" Elena yelled, "She's on his side." she said, pointing to the dead Elijah. Damon looked a little shocked.
"I always knew she was not good." Stefan said, rolling his eyes.
When they were finally gone, Kayla laid next to Elijah's feet and slowly felt exhaustion creep up on her.

How do you like it so far.
Sorry for slow updates!!
AUTHOR'S NOTE (2020)
This book was written when I was 13. I am now 17. This whole story is filled with plot holes and mistakes. It's not written very well and I don't recommend reading it if any of those things bother you. I do have a new Kol Mikaelson fanfiction up if you'd rather check that one out.
But for those of you who want to read this anyway, enjoy!!!
