Question and Answer (Q&A) Interview with SSA Hazel Finley and Dr. Spencer Reid
Date: [REDACTED]
Author, [REDACTED], will henceforth be known as Interviewer (INT).
Interviewees, SSA Hazel Finley & Dr. Spencer Reid, will henceforth be known as (HF) and (SR).
INT: Thank you both for meeting with me. I know the readers have been anxiously anticipating this since I announced it back in chapter seven.
HF: Absolutely. I love our readers so much and they've given us so much support, it's only right we give them something back.
INT: Alright, so I'm gonna ask you guys questions the readers submitted, and Fin, if you could answer first, and then Spencer, if you could go after her, just to keep things consistent. Are you both ready?
SR: Yes.
HF: Ready when you are.
INT: Okay, our first question comes from blue__46: What song would you guys dance to in a kitchen?
HF: Oh, goodness... [laughs] That's a good question. Spencer doesn't really dance--
SR: Correction: I can't dance.
HF: [laughs] Yeah, that's true. But sometimes, when we're cooking, I'll put on some music and we kinda dance, I guess. Oh, Spence, what song played the other day when we were making pasta? I think it was Amy Winehouse, wasn't it?
SR: "(There Is) No Greater Love".
HF: Yeah, that's it. Spencer twirled me around in the kitchen to that one. I like that one a lot.
SR: I'll have to agree. Hazel got me into Amy Winehouse and that song's one of my favorites.
INT: Y'all are making me feel single. Alright, our next question also comes from blue__46: What is your favorite thing about each other?
HF: Oh, God, I have to choose? [side-eye at SR] I mean--
SR: [blushing] No.
HF: Party pooper. [sighs] If I had to choose something about Spencer... It's so hard to pick just one thing. Maybe his memory. He never forgets my birthday or how I take my coffee and what I said I wanted for dinner six months ago... I've never had a guy remember everything about me before. I just--I feel known by him, you know?
SR: My favorite thing about Hazel is her smile. It's perfect and beautiful and I think I could survive without everything else, as long as I always knew she'd still smile at me.
INT: [wiping tears of joy] Okay, this next question is from frexchqueen: If you guys were a Taylor Swift album, which would you be?
HF: I'll admit my ignorance to Taylor Swift. She's an amazing artist, but I don't really listen to her that often. Although, 1989 is a damn good album. But that's not us. I don't know, what do you think, Spencer?
SR: I think we're Evermore. Not because every song describes us, but because we're everything they aren't. We don't have champagne problems, we're not jealous of each other, we're not unfaithful...we have true love, which is everything that Evermore wants. It's an ironic reversal, but I think we're the answer to the questions the songs ask.
INT: Fin, don't you dare break this man's heart.
HF: You're the writer. [shrugs] You made him this way.
INT: [looks at the camera, Office-style] Okay, next question from Ikdyimonthis: When was the moment you first knew you loved each other?
HF: Oh, goodness... Probably the night Lars showed up at my apartment. It was my birthday, and you gave me that beautiful book of flowers, and you drove me home. I tripped going up the stairs, and you tried to pick up my bag, and we just kind of sat there for a minute, looking at each other. I think we would've kissed, if Mrs. Wu didn't interrupt, but you'd just dropped this massive bombshell on me about letting people in, and I knew you were right... And I think I realized it then.
SR: I knew I loved you when we were in Colorado, on the Separatists' ranch.
HF: Really? That early?
SR: Yeah. I just... I'd never been so angry in my life, watching Cyrus drag you away like that. I'd never wanted to protect anyone that badly. I just wanted to hold you and make sure nothing ever touched you again. I was in love.
INT: [singsongs] He fell first, she fell harder... Next question is also from Ikdyimonthis: What is your favorite weird food combo?
HF: [laughs] Spencer's gonna make fun of me for this, but I like to put kung pao chicken on my pizza. If there's leftovers in the fridge, and those two things are available, then I'm gonna eat them together.
SR: It's so weird. [shakes his head] But I love you anyway. Uh, Morgan introduced me to this one, but it's a burger on glazed donuts? Like the donuts are the buns with a hamburger in the middle. It sounds gross, but it's actually amazing. I almost had a heart attack eating it, but it's worth it.
INT: blue__46 asks: What's your favorite routine you have together?
HF: Oh, that's easy. Every Friday night--if we don't have a case--is takeout and movie night. Spencer drives us home, I shower first, he orders the takeout, then he showers, I pay for the food, and then one of us picks a movie to watch. And then Spencer usually falls asleep on my lap after.
SR: That doesn't happen every time.
HF: A lot of times.
SR: Anyway... I like our mornings. Whoever gets up first makes coffee, and if we don't have a case, we read for a while. Hazel makes us breakfast and then we go to work or if it's the weekend, we take a nap. It's nice.
INT: For the readers, why don't you ever make breakfast?
SR: Oh, I did once, but I made pancakes in a box, and Hazel's pancakes are just infinitely better. I can't eat pancakes anywhere else now.
HF: I'm working on teaching him my secrets.
SR: Also I burned mac and cheese one time. I'm not allowed in the kitchen on my own.
INT: Two more questions from blue__46: Just for Spencer, what's the first thing you thought when Fin came back from Greece?
SR: "Thank God she's home". I thought I'd be angry, but the truth is that I was just hoping she'd come back someday. I would've waited fifty years, and thank God I didn't have to. I just wanted her safe with me.
HF: Spencer... [sniffles]
SR: [smiles] It's true.
[They kiss and somewhere in the world, a butterfly is born]
INT: [visibly sobbing] And the next question: What's your favorite memory of the other person?
HF: Is it cheating to say all of them?
INT: Yes.
HF: Okay. Then I'll say the night in Alaska, when Spencer screamed like a girl after I put my cold hands on his stomach.
SR: I did not scream like a girl. That's an exaggeration.
HF: Spencer, my dear, love of my life, you absolutely did.
SR: [sighs] My favorite memory of you is the night you wanted to make cupcakes, and I helped you, and you got frosting all over your face. You had this goofy smile on your face and frosting was everywhere... You looked more beautiful that night than you ever have before.
INT: For the record, Spencer absolutely does scream like a girl.
SR: Hey!
INT: Anyway... The next question is from eviljilbot, asking what song reminds you of the other person?
HF: Oh, God... That's a good question. Probably "Dreams" by the Cranberries. Spencer's got this kind of indie-rock vibe to him, I don't know if you've noticed, but something about it just makes me think of him. He is impossible to ignore. [laughs]
SR: [puppy-eyes at Hazel] I didn't listen to much popular music before I met Hazel, but now that she's introduced me to so much good music, I'll have to say the one that makes me really think of her whenever I hear it is "Come Away with Me" by Norah Jones. That's the one we danced to at our wedding. It always makes me want to hold her that way again.
INT: Thank you guys so much for doing this. I really wanted the readers to be able to talk to you like I have the past two years.
SR: Of course. We're happy to do it.
HF: Like I said, we love our sweet readers. And we're definitely gonna miss them when it's all over. But we hope they'll come back and visit us some time.
INT: Well, that concludes our interview with SSA Hazel Finley and Dr. Spencer Reid. Goodbye, and thank you for everything.
