2 | Juilliard

As Finn sang his last note and the other four played their last notes, the crowd erupted in cheers and applause for the band's last performance. Finn turned around and nodded, the four of them wrapping their arms around each other and taking a group bow.

Finn grabbed the microphone and began to speak, the crowd quieting, "Hey everybody, thanks for coming out tonight! It really means a lot, to all of us, especially since this is our last show on our last tour. We couldn't have done any of this without you guys, and we wanted to thank you for making these last few years so enjoyable."

"But this isn't the end of Calpurnia!" Malcolm added as Finn handed him the mic. "It's more of a... 'see you later' since we're going our separate ways for a few years with college and such. Hopefully we can make some more music for you guys in the future, but until then, thank you for all the opportunities you've given us."

Malcolm put the mic back down on its stand, the group waving to the crowd before heading backstage.

"I can't believe this was our last show together," Hannalynn said sadly.

"Well, like Malcolm said, you never what the future holds," Jack replied.

"It's just four years, right? We'll all still be in touch, occasional visits to each other on holiday vacations from school." Ayla added.

"You guys were amazing!" Hunter exclaimed as she ran over from entering backstage to give Ayla a hug and kiss on the cheek. Cenzie and Cate also emerged from the entrance, grinning and waving to their friends.

"So, what are we doing for the next few days we're still in New York?" Cenzie asked as she made her way over to Malcolm.

"Sight-seeing, walks through Central Park, making stops at every coffee shop Cenzie sees..." Finn began to list out as everyone laughed.

"Okay Wolfhard, you got a point," Cenzie glared at him. "How about we get started on that now?"

The group of friends walked together through Central Park after stopping at a coffee shop for Cenzie's cravings, laughing at when she finished her coffee and immediately wanted more.

The group of eight teens were enjoying their last few days of spring break together before soon graduating that June and then having to pack up and move to college, going their separate ways for the next four years except for Cate, who had just finished her junior year of high school.

"I'm going to miss this," Hannalynn said with a small smile as she looked down at her and Finn's intertwined hands. "Spending these summers and holidays with you and our friends when we go on tours."

"Well, it doesn't have to end," Finn replied. "We can spend every summer or holiday with our friends and family, and times when we don't have classes see each other outside of school. Speaking of, any schools accepted you yet?"

"Is that the dumbest question ever or not?" Cenzie butted in as she jumped in between the two. Hannalynn tried to signal for her to stop talking, but Cenzie went on, "She obviously got into Juilliard because she's so damn talented!"

Hannalynn sighed as Finn's eyes widened. "You... you auditioned for Juilliard? And got in? When?"

Hannalynn ran a hand through her hair, sighing and pausing their walk to face Finn. "Yeah, I auditioned a few months ago on that trip the girls and I took to New York. My parents encouraged me to go for it, even though I didn't think I was good enough to get in. But a couple weeks ago I got my letter and they accepted me, and I decided to go for it."

"So you're going to Juilliard?"

"Yes, Finn, I am."

Finn hesitated. "I thought... what about our plan? The plan we made last summer where we wanted to go to the same school so we could be near each other? I thought you agreed to that plan?"

"And I did, Finn, but plans change," Hannalynn began to explain as she reached for his hands, but he moved them away.

"I thought you would have told me something this big, Han, I mean you got into freaking Juilliard! And you accepted! How could you not tell me this?" Finn's voice began to rise.

"Because I was trying to avoid this!" Hannalynn motioned her hands between the two of them. "I was trying to avoid you getting mad that I wanted to make a decision for myself for once! I didn't want you to throw away your plans for me, some stupid girl—"

"But you're not just 'some stupid girl', Han! I'm in love with you!"

"Sometimes that's not enough!" Hannalynn yelled, everything around them going silent. Their friends tried to respect them and talk amongst themselves, not wanting to listen in, but they couldn't help it after Hannalynn yelled.

"What do you mean, 'that's not enough'? Am I not enough for you?" Finn asked quietly, his voice slightly breaking.

It took everything in Hannalynn not to reach out and hug him, tell him it would be okay. She couldn't tell him that. "Finn, we're adults now. We're eighteen. We need to focus on ourselves, our future, and I don't want to be the one holding you back from your full potential, and the same goes to me. I'm too... vulnerable around you. I don't want twenty years to go by and I look back and see I didn't do what I truly wanted to do for myself because I instead wanted to please you. I can't let teenage love hold me back, I'm sorry. You shouldn't let it, either."

Finn looked up at her, both of their eyes glassy. A tear fell from Hannalynn's eye, Finn instinctively reaching out to wipe it away, but she took a step back. "I gotta go. Goodbye, Finn. I wish you the best." She then turned around and walked the other way, leaving him standing there with his own tears streaming down his face.

"Girls, come on," Cate insisted. "The guys can stay with Finn, we need to go help our friend." Hunter, Cenzie, and Ayla nodded, running after their broken-hearted friend.

A/N: this didn't come out as good as i wanted it to but 🤷🏻‍♀️ rip my babies 🤧

so if you're slightly confused, Calpurnia went on their last tour before they all graduate and go to college. finn and hanna had discussed before that they wanted to go to school together to not have to deal with long distance and such, but once hanna auditioned for juilliard, she discovered that she wanted to do her own thing without anything weighing her back, which unfortunately meant having to leave finn ):

anyway i hope you (somewhat) enjoyed this chapter! if so please don't forget to vote comment and share because i love your feedback!

thanks, until next time ;)
