𝑮𝑹𝑨𝒀𝑺𝑶𝑵

The sound of a soft rumble from a motor was among the first things I heard other than minimal chatter when my eyes finally opened.

And immediately they went wide.

I needed to find Talia and Gracie was the first thought I had and it consumed me with fear and stress.

Leaning up, I noticed the group of people standing around this wooden livestock carrier before peeking out through the few inches of wood that barely illuminated the inside of this carrier as we stopped.

I had no fucking clue where I was from the little view I had and it just angered me more.

"Let's go! Come on, Vincent, open these doors!" I heard one of the military personnel yell as he walked closer to the carrier

The doors then opened causing this group to quickly flood out as one of the personnel ordered us all to make our way out.

I just kept a slow pace as I took in my surroundings. Military transport trucks were everywhere along with flashing lights, panicked civilians, helicopters, and ambulances.

Everything moved so quickly it felt like a blur and the only good thing that came from this was I knew where I was now and I knew how to get back.

The QuikTrip was about six miles out from the town and I just needed to figure out how to get past the Military roadblocks without trouble.

Seeing one of the townsfolk I had known for a while I quickly made my way to him to see whether he could give me a bit more insight into where my wife was seeing his wasn't with him as well.

"Rudy! Where's Laura?!" I asked as I placed my hand on his shoulder

"They took her." He replied as we continued walking with the crowd

"Talia?" He asked

"They took her too," I answered

"They took Callie and Gerald, Kelly and Zion, and a whole mess of other people..." He began stating before a scream cut his speech short

I turned seeing it was just a Mom running to her kid tearfully.

"Mom!" The kid exclaimed softly as she ran into his arms causing my jaw to tighten

"Come on, people! Keep moving!" The men demanded

"I'm going back," I stated coldly as I looked around at all the people missing family members

"They got the whole town sealed off. Roadblocks on every highway. Mitchel Reid and his family tried to run one. They shot them dead, the entire family...Grayson, this here might be your only chance don't lose it running off of some fool's errand." Rudy advised harshly causing my blood to boil

"So, my wife and kid are fool's errands?" I asked as I stopped looking at him with an expression that he quickly noticed as he began trying to retract his statement

"You know what I'm saying..." He expressed lowly

"I'll tell you what, Rudy. Don't ask why I can't leave without my wife and kids and I won't ask you why you can." I seethed in shock at the pedestal of regard he held his family to

That went for every man out here with a family that took this opportunity and didn't think twice about returning for their wife or children as well. They were all cowards and they would carry that shame the rest of their days.

I briskly made my way off to the side dodging the Military personnel before ducking off into the high grass, beginning to make my way back to town.

I was going to get my girls no matter what.

My journey to town was quick. I blame it fully on my adrenaline, but was thankful I still did jogs like this a few times a week which only made it easier.

But, the weird part was how eerie the town now was. Different noises and screams scattered from afar and fires lit up the surroundings almost everywhere.

I didn't know what the hell exactly was in that water people began to consume but one things for certain a lot of people here weren't right and I wasn't taking any chances.

Quietly, I slipped into the station's backdoor before heading to the armory seeing everything was gone.

"Fuck!" I grumbled as I turned, beginning to head to my office before noticing Kyle lying against the wall lifeless

It was a horrific sight. The man's iris' and sclera were yellow like a person with a bad case of jaundice, blood had trailed down his face from the inner corners of his eyes and nose and his veins were green and blue as they protruded nastily from his face and neck.

With wide eyes I then opened the door leading toward the hallway and jogged toward my office before quickly sitting in my chair knowing since my blinds were open I was going to have to make each of my moves swift and calculated.

Hurriedly, I unlocked my drawer and pulled my spare guns lockbox out and unlocked it as well before picking up the revolver unmasking the magazine seeing each of the individual chambers were empty.

I then heard a door slam open causing me to briskly grab one of the bullets to load the gun before snapping the cylinder of the revolver back in place and holding it up at my open door as the person appeared and cocked their gun the same time as me.

"Nice to see you too, Chief," Carter exclaimed sarcastically as we lowered our guns

I then heard tires squeal and sirens causing my eyebrow to raise as I lowered myself to the ground and pressed against my back to the nearest wall out of sight.

"Oh, shit." He then said rushing to his knees next to me as we ducked the flare of the oncoming headlights

"How'd you get out?" I then asked as the car sped off

"Landon Elliot ran his pickup through the fence. Fucking Military started shooting. Townsfolk going nuts. Before you know it, people are just running off into the field!" Carter explained as we loaded our guns to the max still on the ground

"Gray, Talia, and Gracie were still inside the school. I'm sorry, man..." He began to console me before I cut him off saying, "They're not sick. Talia's been running a fever all month, and Gracie the past week and a half. Talia's pregnant and Gracie is on her period."

"Well, it's about damn time!" He said happily

"I have to go get them," I replied ignoring his response due to my tunnel vision

"Well, let's fucking get to the high school," Carter replied showcasing his approval as he double-pumped his shotgun again and jumped to his feet I just stared at his uncanny behavior for a few seconds

Carter was a bit rambunctious but never in a time like this; maybe he was just pumped up on fight-or-flight adrenaline.

Hopefully.

I felt numb.

After the unknown men in the biohazard suits tore me and Gracie apart they quickly tranquilized the both of us before strapping us to separate gurneys and rolling us deeper into the high school.

Suddenly, a screaming face filled with blood shattered the little window of one of the classrooms, spraying the floor with shards of glass.

Through the screams and chaos, I knew I was slowly going into shock no matter how hard I tried to calm myself for the baby I was carrying.

Not being able to look around much at my surroundings stressed me even more as the bright lights above began to blur my vision.

"Please...let us go..." I said weakly as a single tear streamed down my cheek with the man wheeling me down the hallway looked down at me before looking back up ignoring my pleas

As another man rolled a gurney past us I immediately noticed the large amount of blood pooled where a body once laid causing me to try and continue to move as I began to panic.

"Keep it moving! Detox chamber is scrubbed and ready!" I heard one of the men say as I looked at the men ahead that I was being passed to

"Please. Please don't! Please, no." I wept my voice both low and raspy from how weak that shot had made me

A man in a white biohazard suit then appeared from behind the one that had stopped me causing me to try and fight from my restraints knowing what they were going to do as he picked up an anesthesia mask.

The gas let off a soft hiss as he brought it closer to me causing me to try and look him in the eyes as I began to plead with him.

"Please. Please, I'm pregnant, don't do this!" I screamed as he forcefully placed the mask over my mouth and nose holding it until my eyes went dark

Gunshots and helicopters whirling were the first things I heard as my body came back to life.

"We've got a breach in the yard! Move out! Let's go, evacuate!" I heard a man yell from the outside of the classroom

"We need to move out! The schizophrenes have breached the containment area. The Military's pulled out! We've gotta get out of here!" A man yelled as he ran through the plastic barricade with his rifle pointed at the ceiling

The examiner in the corner of the room who was drawing blood samples from a person by the window of the classroom took a look out of the window before frantically collecting his things and running out with the guard accidentally leaving a needle embedded into the arm of his last victim.

Craning my neck over to the nearest window I immediately saw the chaos he did.

A truck was smoking from the engine as its front bent the fence that once held a contained group of people as the same men in that truck began to shoot down the men and women.

The havoc led to the townspeople beginning to attack examiners with some going as far as to murder some of the medtechs all while the guards began to be overwhelmed by the large group as shots were fired from all directions.

Seeing this through the lens of sedation made the horror feel dreamlike, but yet with me slowly coming back to my senses as well, it scared the absolute hell out of me.

And, the scene of the classroom's setting only made it more menacing.

The homework assignment from yesterday's class scattered the whiteboard reminding me how normal of a day the previous was.

In the wake of the military exodus, there is an eerie calm filled the air along with shrieks, groans, and the insane rants of those abandoned in the containment area with us.

A crazed young man cackled wickedly to himself, a middle-aged woman babbled lowly and incoherently to herself; with another catatonic man staring off to the side with the same half-dead expression Tommy had when I did his checkup two days ago as others were manically fighting the gurney's restraints -clearly not right- and some had teeth-clattering convulsions.

The image was a living nightmare.

Plip. Plip. Plip. Blood sounded as it hit the ground from the blood the examiner once was drawing before his departure.

I just scanned the room with the fear of not finding my daughter creeping up on me more and more before I saw her across the room close to the back window's corner asleep.

"Thank God." I groaned before I began trying to tug out of my restraints once again

I then saw Daphne a few beds down with panic in her eyes as she trembled ever so slightly causing me to lowly call her name.

Her head then snapped back to face me as I saw the tears that stained her cheeks causing me to ask her between my hasty breaths, "Daph, honey, are you hurt...?"

"Is this really happening?" She asked in a tone that showcased her fear

"It's gonna be alright." I lied putting on a brave face trying to console her and calm her down

I needed to come up with a plan to get us out of here and then find Grayson. He'd know what to do and he'd damn sure protect us.

"We're gonna be okay," I said hoping this statement wasn't a lie

"You don't really believe that, do you?" She asked tearfully before a ghastly sound drew our gazes to the door

An ominous metallic scraping noise was approaching in the distance from the hallways outside of the classroom. But, that wasn't just it. Someone was coming, their slow shuffling footsteps gave it up.

"Be very quiet and stay still!" I mouthed to Daphne not a sound departing my lips as she stifled her low sobs while the blood-curdling scraping noise came closer and closer

Panic began to ensue Daphne as she began to close her eyes and breath heavy causing me to quickly yet lowly shush her causing her to follow my direction just before a figure appeared behind the clear plastic barricade.

I then looked to the floor of the shadowy figure seeing he was dragging a pitchfork slowly behind him causing my eyes to slightly widen in fear as the man heard the snickers and different noises from the other crazed people in the classroom before slowly peeling the plastic back and slipping in.

It was Gracie and Daphne's principal. Mr. Lockwood. But, he wasn't the same jolly man he usually was.

The man was drenched in blood from head to toe with a deranged and mindless expression as he stood in place a far way from us looking around the front of the room.

Me and Daph just watched in mute terror as I prayed he'd leave as I finally got a good look at the man.

Slowly, he turned to the woman next to him muttering to herself before walking over to her while still scraping the ground with the pitchfork.

He then looked up and down her body before raising the pitchfork and spearing her in the chest with the crunch of the woman's bones emitting into the air as her body leaped while she screamed-with Daphne reacting the same, her's luckily being drowned out due to the victim- reacting to the force.

The sound of the woman choking on her blood filled the air as he continued to stick the pitchfork deeper into the layers of her body until the rip of the bed underneath was heard.

I began breathing heavily as I watched in both in disbelief and terror.

The man then pulled the pitchfork out causing her body to fall limp as the sound of her blood pooling to the floor produced.

The scraping noise from the pitchfork began again as the man scoured for his next victim to continue his murderous ritual.

He headed straight for the young man across the room who was snickering to himself before violently piercing the man's chest back to back as the boy began to spit up his own blood.

"Mom!" I then heard Gracie quaver causing my eyes to bolt to her as I shook my head no demanding inaudibly she stay quiet

But it was too late the man had noticed and was headed straight for my daughter as slow as a lion hunting his prey.

"Mom!" She screamed as she began thrusting wildly against her restraints

Fear stomped my heart as he got closer to her.

"Help!" My daughter screeched as tears fell from my eyes as I tried to think of what I could do as I began to shake the gurney I was attached to

"No, please, Mr. Lockwood!" My daughter whimpered as he stopped beside her and lifted the pitchfork

"NO!" I screamed at the top of my lungs feeling the back of my throat begin to burn from the piercing cry I had let out

It was a scream no one could ignore. Even a man of no emotion, regard, or righteous mind.

The man just silently lowered the pitchfork with his demented gaze now attached to only me as my daughter cried lowly.

"Please, get out of here!" Daphne wailed failing to distract him

I was who he wanted now and based on the look in his eye, he wasn't going to give me up easy.

My mind began to race as I scratched the gurney sheets trying to get myself loose while breathing heavily as I shook the gurney until I rolled myself backward a bit with the man still making his way to me.

I then began to thrash back and forth as the man made it closer causing me to try and fail to kick him as he stood over me snickering before slowly lifting the pitchfork causing blood residue to fall onto me.

Closing my eyes I just braced for what was coming as I silently cried.

Six gunshots then sounded back to back before I heard a body thud causing me to weep lowly to myself keeping my eyes shut as I quivered in fear.

"Baby, I'm here." I heard Grayson's voice say causing my eyes to open as I continued to cry lowly as he unloosened the straps of the gurney before pulling me into his arms

"I'm here..." He said again as he held me close kissing my cheek

"You were right. I should've just listened." I wept as he pulled away to face me while shaking his head

"It's okay, don't worry about it. I'm gonna get you and Gracie out of here." He replied as he placed his hands on my cheeks

"Oh, my God! Gracie." I then said as I rushed to my feet immediately feeling their weakness which I ignored as I headed toward my daughter

I swiftly removed her restraints and pulled her into my arms with Grayson following as she hugged us both tightly while crying between her strained breaths.

"Calm down. I got you guys, I promise." Grayson said to us both

"Let's get the hell out of here." Carter then said breaking the tension as he let Daphne free

I then grabbed my daughter holding her close as we walked quickly past the lifeless body of her principal with Grayson following.

I was going to hope for years this was something me and her would be able to forget but I knew logically it would never be.

This was all my fault.

A/N: Hey, loves! How are you guys feeling? Everyone's on the move! How did you guys like the horror and gore? Also, Grayson is the dad and husband of the year fr!
