"You really enjoy keeping me up late when you know I have to go into the station early, don't you?!" I asked with a small smile while Talia laid on top of me with her arms around me as if I were a body pillow

"Sure do! You are comfy!" She then replied with her head nuzzled in the crook of my neck with her sweet scent masking the clean scent of the new sheets recently placed on our bed

Hearing a knock on the door we immediately departed and quickly began sliding into our pajamas knowing it was our daughter.

"Yes?!" Talia answered as another light knock sounded at our door while I turned the lamp on

"Mom, my stomach is killing me still..." Gracie said lowly causing me to frown lowly feeling more than bad at what she had to now become accustomed to

Talia then opened the door as I sat up on my side of our bed and looked at the time.

12:30 AM

"I'm gonna give you something stronger for the pain but you are gonna be knocked out for a while, baby," Talia said as she gently moved her hair from her eyes and kissed her forehead

Even though, Gracie had been asleep for the longest time after her shower; her eyes were sunken, her face was red most likely from the pain and she looked a bit frail.

It just hurt my heart seeing her like this especially since she was always my crazy little lion cub.

I then opened my arms causing her to walk into them slowly as I began hugging her.

"It's okay, Birdy," I said while rubbing her head as Talia walked back into our room with medicine and Gracie's favorite soda

"Alright, baby, here you go..." Talia said while giving Gracie the medicine and open soda causing her to take it and pout

"You guys do know I'm not a baby anymore" She blurted causing my mouth to drop as I placed my palm on my chest in distraught with Talia following my action

"Newsflash, moody, you are still our baby!" Talia then said while placing her hand on her hip

"Exactly!" I then said before Talia walked over and picked her up like a baby causing me to laugh

"I held you just like this for years and now that you have been 14 not even five months and you have the nerve to tell me you aren't my baby anymore?" Talia ranted as Gracie began to laugh too

"Put me down, you crazy lady! Dad!" She squealed causing me to get up and take her from Talia just to hold Gracie's foot up as my wife began tickling her feet

"Guess who's laughing just how they used to when they were a baby!" I exclaimed while laughing with them

"Okay! Okay!" Gracie screamed between her laughter causing us to stop and her to smile as I sat her down

"That's what we thought!" Talia then said as she hugged Gracie and kissed her forehead

"Do you feel better?" I then asked with a big smile causing her to laugh and say, "You guys are my parents, I have no choice but to."

"Yay!" I then cheered

"Alright, well, I have to go to sleep. Joyce wants me to check up on Tommy in the morning. Apparently, he's not acting like himself." Talia then said

"Well, if you guys want to go to the carnival later after all of that we can..." I proposed as Gracie happily jumped after hearing 'carnival'

"So, the baby is coming." I then said while chuckling lowly as she sent me her little look of disapproval

"You know I am in." Talia then said as she got in our bed with Gracie following causing me to laugh as she laid in Talia's arms

"You're not a baby but still sleep with us once every two weeks. Baffling!" Talia mumbled causing Gracie to throw her arms around her and nuzzle her nose against hers as I got in bed while laughing at them

"In my defense, Mom, you cuddle amazingly." Gracie then said as I turned our lamp off

"She does." I then added as I placed my arm around them

𝑺𝑰𝑿𝑻𝑬𝑬𝑵 𝒀𝑬𝑨𝑹𝑺 𝑨𝑮𝑶

"We will play every aspect of the game fantastically as if it were our last and we will what?" My coach asked us loudly

"Win state!" We all replied in cadence

"Well, champs, get some rest! I'll see you all tomorrow for conditioning." Coach Lee then said finally dismissing us after a long afternoon of running plays and of course workouts

The guys then silently sighed at the words conditioning but didn't speak knowing if they did we were all aching now but it would have been times ten today's ache and times twenty extra tomorrow.

We then began walking off to the sidelines of the field to pick up our gym bags and talk a bit before heading home.

"Grayson!" My best friend Luke yelled as he wrapped his arm around my neck

"What's up, Luke?" I asked while laughing at his natural goofy nature as I picked up my gym bag

"You coming to the kickback tonight?" He then asked causing me to groan knowing that once he heard my answer he was going to give me a thousand reasons why I should be making an appearance

"No, you know I have to get ready for conditioning tomorrow and I have to do QB conditioning which you guys don't have to so I have to be here earlier," I explained causing him to roll his eyes

"Grayson, you know-" He began with his rant as I began channeling him and his reasons out

He was my best friend but he also knew I wasn't a partier.

I then looked off to the side seeing the cheerleaders were collecting their things as well from their recent dispersal from practice.

But, that wasn't all.

I couldn't help but notice and stare at the new face I had now seen amongst them.

It was something about her. Something I couldn't shake and it was far past her beauty alone.

"Grayson!" Luke snapped trying to regain my attention

"Yeah?" I answered softly still looking over at her until she caught my gaze before smiling as Luke turned for a split second to see what I had

"Who's that?" I then asked causing him to chuckle as he placed his hand on my shoulder and replied, "Out of your league!"

"Whatever..." I then replied before beginning to make my way over to her as she talked with the girls around her

"Hi..." I then said looking into her eyes as the other girls began to visibly swoon while I kept my eyes on her letting her know in my own way she was the reason I had come over

"Hi, Grayson!" They all cooed causing me to nod at them with an awkward smile as my mystery girl laughed

"Sorry for staring earlier...it's just I have never seen you around and you- you're gorgeous," I said beginning to try and straighten up as I stumbled over my words from my fast-paced speaking

"Well, Grayson, is it?..." She began to ask as I nodded in response before she continued saying, "I just transferred over from Austin."

"Oh, so you're a city girl?" I asked with a smile as she shrugged with a smile and said, "You could say that."

"Alright, well, welcome to our town, beautiful." I then said while smiling as the other girls began to walk off after not receiving the attention they were wanting from me

"Thank you." She then replied as she grabbed her bag

"What's your name?" I asked

"Talia" She answered as she laughed lowly while I began to stare once again

"I'm real you don't have to stare." She then said causing me to laugh

"Sorry, I usually never do," I replied feeling my cheeks warm from the slight embarrassment building within me

"You have really pretty hair too! It's like a cute lion's mane except really curly and shiny." I then blurted before mentally face-palming myself

"You're funny, Grayson." She then said while laughing

"I hope I'm not weirding you out..." I then said beginning to sigh as she smiled

"No, usually when I get hit on I'm a lot more disgusted. I think you're cute." Talia then said giving me my hopefulness back

"Thank God!" I then exclaimed as she laughed again

"You know, if you'd like you can touch the beloved lion's mane." She then said causing me to laugh at the stupid heartfelt comment I had made that resulted in her inviting me into her personal space

I then took a step closer to her and gently pulled one of her curls down gently watching as it sprung back up into its natural coil.

"Your hair is really gorgeous and soft." I then said while focusing on it as I fluffed it before I looked back into her eyes

"Are you going to the party at Jenny's tonight?" I then asked as I forced myself to back off

"I was thinking about it but I'm still not sure." She then replied

"I'm trying to get talked into it too...but, if you don't want to are you free for ice cream or a movie tonight or both?" I then asked causing her to smile

"Maybe. Depends." She answered

"Depends on?" I then asked while laughing lowly

"Depends on whether you like animated movies as much as I do." She rebutted

"Oh, I love them," I answered truthfully causing her to nod and smile seeming impressed by my answer

"Then, yeah, I'm free," Talia said causing me to smile

"Alright, well, I can pick you up at 6. Or, you can meet me. Whatever, you'd like." I proposed

"6 is fine. Do you have something I can write my address and number down on?" She then asked as I opened my gym bag grabbing my play notebook and a pen before handing it to her

"A football nerd I see..." She then said as she wrote her information down beneath one of the plays

"Yeah, it comes with the responsibilities of being a quarterback," I replied as she handed my notebook back

"You know we actually live in the same neighborhood," I said as I eyed the address

"That's nice to know." She then said while looking up at me with a smile

"Well, I'll see you later, Talia," I said while smiling most likely like a fool

"I'll see you later too, Grayson." She concluded with a smile before beginning to walk off just as Luke appeared beside me

"You really got her number?!" Luke asked

"Yeah, I did," I said in disbelief still smiling

"Well, are you bringing her to the party?" He then asked

"See you tomorrow, Luke" I then said with a laugh as I began to walk off

"Come on, Grayson!" He then whined causing me to turn and smile as I walked backward for a moment just to say, "I have plans."
