"Grayson! Dad!" Talia and Gracie happily exclaimed as I walked through the door with a disheveled Carter and Daphne

Gracie just ran into my arms with tear-filled, bloodshot red eyes. I just hugged her tightly while having slight visions of the horror I had luckily evaded.

"Daphne, are you okay, sweetie?" Talia asked noticing Carter holding her up

"A bone in her foot is dislocated, she needs it replaced," I answered as Carter helped her sit causing Talia to rush to her aid

"Gracie, I need you to go to your room and pack some of your things; Right now, okay honey?" I said as I pulled away placing my hands reassuringly on her shoulders before kissing her forehead allowing her to rush to her room

"You too, Talia." I then said as she popped the bone in Daphne's foot back in place causing her to yelp in pain since it was an action done without warning

"I'm so sorry, sweetheart, it's done I promise," Talia reassured while holding her foot and patting her shoulder before quickly grabbing her an ice pack

"Daphne, I'm going to get you home in about thirty minutes. Carter, I need you to go to the station and round up the deputies, arm them all, and tell everyone you see to stay in their homes until I give further notice. I want the town shut down until I get back." I demanded leaving Carter to nod before heading out

"Get back from where Grayson?" Talia asked with a mixture of worry and sass in her tone

"I'm taking you and Gracelynn to Dallas and you two are going to stay there for a few days, maybe weeks," I said as I began walking upstairs to our room

"I don't know what happened out there but there is no way in hell we are leaving and you're not going to stay with us!" Talia snapped as I pulled out her suitcase from the closet and placed it on our bed making sure to unzip it as well for her

"You have no idea what's happening-" I began to state before Talia cut me off saying sternly, "And, neither do you!"

"Talia...I'm not going to go there with you, not right not, not ever. Pack your things, we are leaving." I rebutted in a tone as serious as the situation this town was currently in

"We aren't leaving. Me and Gracie are apparently leaving. This isn't just your decision, Grayson, I have a say as well." She argued

"You two are in danger. We can't make choices on what ifs and but's right now because whatever is out there is for sure." I retorted

"Are you coming with us, Grayson?" She asked in a softer tone as she sat on our bed while placing her hand on her head

"I'm the sheriff, Talia, I don't have the luxury," I answered with a hint of sarcasm

"And, I'm their doctor. Your point?" She questioned

"Yeah, well, if it turns out what they need is Thorazine, I'll call you." I rebutted going to grab some of her things from the closet and placing them inside the suitcase

"...Grayson," Talia called softly after a long pause of silence

"What?" I snapped as I looked toward her not ready to hear any more of the they're staying nonsense

I then noticed she was staring hard looking out the window causing me to say now worried, "What?"

"There's somebody outside." She said with a slight bit of fear scrambled in her expression

I then slowly went to the window she was looking out of and peered behind the sheer drapes before noticing the door to our barn was open with the lights on.

"Get Gracie and Daphne. Turn the lights off and be quiet." I demanded while unlocking my gun locker and grabbing my shotgun before heading out of the house

I moved briskly and carefully towards the backyard where the barn was before slipping into the open door, beginning to inspect the perimeter.

After a few long seconds of not finding anything only left me more unsettled and nervous. The night sky was dark and calm yet the air was dense and chilling.

It was a scene straight out of a horror movie.

"Dad!...Dad!" I heard my daughter scream in the most bone-crushing form possible

I just began running out of the barn before being stopped by a group of men in military uniforms with guns and flashlights pointed at me.

"Drop the weapon, sir!" They directed causing me to do so as everything seemed to move in slow motion from all the orders they began to bark

"Give me your arms!" One of them yelled causing me to stop fighting against their hold as they began leading me toward a school bus

"Let's clear this area!" One of them ordered causing me to look around and see no sign of Gracie, Talia, and Daphne

"Where's my wife and daughter?" I asked causing one of them to say, "On the bus, now watch your step!" as they forcibly escorted me closer to the open doors of the bus causing me to step on immediately looking for my family

"Grayson!" Talia called causing me to locate her and Gracie with my eyes before rushing to the back of the bus past the many townspeople who filled the seats closest to the front

I sat down next to Gracie and Talia causing my daughter to hug me tightly as she asked, "Dad, why are they making us do this?"

"I don't know, Gracie, I just need you to stay with your Mom at all times and be calm," I replied kissing her forehead as Talia grabbed my hand gently

"Sheriff, what's going on?" Walter -one of the town's most prolific farmers- asked

"Walter, I don't know. Right now, I don't know any more than you do." I partially lied

I then looked into the seat next to me seeing Carter and Daphne were sharing, and, well, Carter was looking like the mellowest angry person I'd ever seen.

"Funny thing happened on the way downtown. Bastards spiked my tires." He spat before asking, "Who are these fuckers, man?"

"The people who know truly what's wrong and won't give us answers," I replied as the bus and the military vehicles surrounding began moving

Pulling into the back wing of the high school chaos couldn't even describe the scenery.

Military helicopters were whirling over the building, and the bus lot where the driver had stopped was illuminated by the bright lights of the school floodlights, military personnel filled and surrounded the entire school which now looked like a quarantine camp.

As the bus drove down through the disarray I noticed the people who were locked behind fences with fear written in their expressions and some with anger.

It looked like a riot from hell.

"Everyone must exit from the bus!" One of the Military men announced before we all orderly began making our way off of the bus

"Stay with me and stay calm," I told Gracie and Talia as we arose from our seats following behind Car, Daphne, and the rest in an orderly fashion

"Keep moving, people! Let's go! Let's go!" The men orderly as we began walking through the walkway they had prepared

The havoc was even worse now that we weren't deaf to the noise.

People were being snatched piece by piece from their families, wails, screams, and cries emitted through the air, violent beeping was heard in the near distance and there were a dozen shuffling sounds coming from every direction.

What made the scene even more eerie was the biohazard suits most of the military personnel and medical examiners wore.

"Please head into the tent!" One of the masked men ordered causing us to do so as we walked into a tent filled with medical examiners stopping us to check our body temperatures before clearing us to continue moving through the checkpoint

"Hey, can one of you guys tell me what's going on?" I asked one of the men now showing how pissed off I was becoming

"I'm sorry, sir. You have to keep moving, I can't answer your questions." The man replied tonelessly

"Sir, come with me." One of the other men directed while forcibly dragging Carter from our group leaving him slightly disheveled before his fighting instincts took over

A few other men then joined in to drag him away as he shouted, "Get your hands off of me! Don't touch me!"

"Carter!" I yelled trying and failing to get him to calm down as they pulled him down the uncannily illuminated hallway the opposite way that the men had directed me, my wife, my daughter, and Daphne

As we made it back out to the open field's walkway examiners in the biohazard suits rushed past causing me to gently grab Talia stopping her just before they could push her.

"Coming through! The temperature spiked!" He yelled to another as they began pulling a child away from their Mother leaving me a bit shaken up by the merciless action and the screams surrounding their dialogue

"Don't hurt her! Please!" The Mom screeched

"We'll be right back. I promise!" The armed men retorted just before an argument and fight broke out between the men and another family they were trying to break apart

"Come on." I directed my family as we headed out now closer to the end of this tunnel before meeting a line of people waiting for clearance from the men pointing a white thermometer to their ear

"Talia, what does this mean?" I asked worriedly as she began carefully dissecting the situation

"They're checking for elevated temperatures." She replied as the surrounding wind from the hovering helicopters battled against her soft tone

"Kyle was bleeding from the nose, so was Jackson..." I replied finally giving her some insight on the men involved recently in crime abnormally unlike them so she could give me facts on the things I didn't know so I could draw a connection to this, them, the dead pilot, and the mystery toxin that had spread rapidly through the water supply

"Well, cerebral hemorrhaging...it's gotta be some type of virus." She replied a bit louder so I could hear her over the many noises

"Hold on a moment, sir." One of the men declared stopping us all

"Look, I'm the sheriff, she's a doctor, we know these people! What the fuck is going on here?!" I sneered as a man checked my temperature before pulling me slightly away

"Could you just tell us what's going on? Maybe we could actually help you!" I snapped angrily storming off before hearing violent beeps go off causing me to look back and see it was Talia, Gracie, and Daphne's temperature reading elevated

The time just stood chillingly still. I knew what was coming and I knew the possible outcomes from my reaction.

That's when time resumed. Medical examiners and military personnel rushed over beginning to pull them away as they began to call and scream for me causing me to begin pushing past the men and running after them.

"Get off of me! Grayson!" Talia screamed as she fought back against the men who were trying to forcibly take them into another building

"Dad!" I then heard my daughter cry

I was livid. All of my logic had gone out of the window. I was hopelessly outnumbered and it wasn't stopping my raging path.

A few things had happened before I could even realize due to my adrenaline: I had been tased, kicked, knocked to the ground by a rifle butt. Again and again, I was determined to keep fighting even though I was outnumbered.

Sheer stubbornness and determination are what kept me on my feet even though my steps with now wobbly until a gun butt smacked against the back of my head causing me to finally go down.

I just expelled one last breath of resistance before muttering my wife and daughter's name watching as they drug them away just before my sight blackened.

I have to get them back.
