⎯⎯ 𝐟𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟏

𝕿he morning feels refreshing and calm and there's someone — or something — affectionately licking the side of his jaw.

He hums blinking his eyes open to find Ruby sitting close to his face and softly licking his skin with an adoring intensity.

Harry laughs stretching back to squint at the cat who stays curled up by his side.

"Mornin' to you too", he smiles glancing to his left and raising a brow at the absence of his favourite person beside him, "Where's your mum, Ruby?", he yawns petting the cat who purrs quietly.

"Mhm. Let's go find her", he gathers the animal in his arms and pushes out of the bed letting the blankets fall back, allowing him to shuffle out of the room in his socked feet and down the stairs following the soft clanking of vessels coming from the open plan kitchen.

He enters through the living room, a wide smile immediately forming on his lips at the sight of Darlene moving around in a pair of sweatpants and one of his large hoodies with her hair tucked up in a bun.

She spots him midway from the refrigerator to the stove and squeals excitedly walking up to him.

"Happy birthday!".

Her arms come around his neck as she tips up on her toes to kiss the side of his mouth being careful of Ruby clutched in his arms.

Harry chuckles kissing the top of her head, "Thank you, my love".

She happily takes Ruby from him and sets the cat down near her food bowl gesturing for Harry to sit at the kitchen island, her eyes twinkling in sheer delight.

"Thought we'd sleep in today", Harry comments stifling another yawn.

Darlene shrugs, "I wanted to make you a birthday breakfast".

"Hmm", he rubs his eyes setting his arms over the marble countertop.

He looks up to find her stare fixed on him, a slight smile playing on her lips.

He laughs softly, "What?".

"Wanted to give you the first part of your birthday gift too", she adds pointing to an envelope resting near Harry's hand.

He frowns grabbing the envelope marked with a 'D. Threapleton-Winslet' in bold, his confusion rising as Darlene silently signals for him to open it.

Nervously, he takes the single sheet of paper out quickly unfolding it with his heartbeat fastening at the header of the hospital Darlene's ob-gyn consults at.

He scans the page with bated breath, his eyes slowly taking the words in as his mind registers what it means.

Holy shit.

Abruptly, his gaze pulls up to Darlene who's quietly watching his reaction.

"They're sure?", his blurts out with wide eyes.

She bites her lip and nods vigorously.

"Hundred percent".

"Oh my—", Harry shakes his head abandoning the sheet of paper and getting up to his feet to step over to Darlene who looks up with him with a small smile.

His hands come up to her shoulder.

"When did you find out?".

"Last week. And . . . I wanted to tell you immediately but . . . . I thought this would be better".

A joyful laugh escapes his lips, his arms looping around her neck as he pulls her in for a tight hug.

She wraps her arms around him and squeezes him with a sigh, Harry squeezing her back in response.

He leans back momentarily to glance down at her smiling face which looks up at him in pure and unconcealed contentment.

"We're having a girl", he blinks in awe, his lips stretching up into a huge smile.

Darlene grins planting a kiss to the side of his jaw.

"We are".
