ππ ππππππ βΉ LOVE BETWEEN THE UNLOVED AND THE UNLOVING.
ββWELL, FROM THE MOMENT I met you, your personality had the most extraordinary influence over me. I quite admit that I adored you madly, extravagantly, absurdly. I was jealous of every one to whom you spoke. I wanted to have you all to myself. I was only happy when I was with you. When I was away from you, you were still present in my art. It was all wrong and foolish. It is all wrong and foolish still. Of course I never let you know anything about this. It would have been impossible. You would not have understood it; I did not understand it myself. ββ

βSUMMATIONβ
ε·ζ°΄ κ± π€βπ«Λ.ΰΌ , MODE CUNNINGHAM KNOWS HER OWN MINDββshe always has, and when the occasion arose, other people's too. From a tender age, she made it her business to know what everybody else did, and at the best times, she had knowledge of things that few people were aware of at all. Mode Cunningham was innately well-versed in the art of sticking her nose where it never belonged, much to the chagrin of the object of her keen and unrelenting intrigue. So, naturally, Mode Cunningham knew everything.
FOR LONG AS RECOLLECTION served her and she could hold a pencil without a tremble in little fingers, Mode sketched all manner of punk chic garments and from the tick of a clock that she was able to visualise and manufacture and dress her second-rate dolls with artfully-designed gowns, Mode Cunningham knew she wanted to be a fashion designer, she knew her tale would make for a fine one, from the legendary Coco Channel, the orphan who transformed fashion to fashion great Elie Tahari, who now lords over an aesthete empire, she could think of few origins humbler than those of her genius hard at work beneath thin bedsheets with nothing but a needle, some thread and piece of tattered fabric procured in a dumpster. Mode Cunningham's saga would be a classic epic of rags-to-designer-tweed, a true stylish Dickensian drama, but becoming a ward of state, after what happened her parents, at the tender and vulnerable age of ten, took the wind out her sails. And residing in a group homes, a grim and bleak sort of juvenile hall with the dΓ©cor of a dentistry, she was light years away from achieving her vision. And what's more, in period of six years, Mode Cunningham had endured twenty-six adoption interviews, and after each one, she returned to the same bed she left that very morning.
THE AMERICAN BEAUTY HAD surmised, from an early age, that hope bred eternal misery. And summers had stretched on like this, her life succumbing to an oscillation between a book of unseen brilliance and a heart haunted with melancholic bitterness due to the unhappiness that polluted her. It had been abundantly clear that she had no future; her odds of adoption appeared more disheartening than the resurfacing recollection of her parentsΚΌ decisions that landed her in this predicament, that landed her alone. Mode Cunningham had wanted a family, but perhaps they just didn't want her.
MODE KNEW SHE WAS MEANT FOR more than this; she wanted to embody the future of fashion, and if she had no family to impress, she'd make damn well sure she'd impress herself. Mode Cunningham decided it was time to pull herself together, ambitious little things like her want nothing more than to claim their place among the stars. Mode Cunningham made herself in the image of a pretty and viscous fox, left it caged up inside of her, curled up with a thread that binds her backbone, cut with cleverness, and masked with mischief. She was on the hunt, hungry for the life that she wanted. With her next foster family, she'd hold out. Mode Cunningham would play at being the perfect daughter. After just two more minor years to go, and she could fly the coup, hit the road, fuck the system, she'd be free.Β
And like clockwork, three spanners were thrown in the works to deter her plans.
ONE: it began with potential penitentiary time, when a middle-aged man is strong-armed by Pastor Bobby into selecting between doing hard time or temporarily fostering a sixteen-year-old girl who was having issues with maternal authority figures. TWO: was how a strong and true friendship emerged like the crackling embers of a bonfire amidst the escalation of a fist-fight in the defence of a kid getting wailed on by a bunch of trust-fund pricks. This was her happy house. AND: then there was him. Robby Keene, dark-haired, green-eyed, olive-toned, cold-blooded, soul-torn, mist-hearted and perfectly moon-like. The boy that she often thought of but dared not speak of. Let the record reflect that Mode Cunningham was not one to fall in love, she knew her own mind, but she didn't know her heart and she didn't know she inevitably would. Mode didn't see this coming, she didn't see him coming. She also didn't predict his complicated connections to her found family, that loving him would be like taking bricks out of her fucking house and fuck it but that could bring the whole house down. A house that was the mark her of survival.

TRIGGER WARNINGβββββββ mature themes like strong language, hinted nudity, sexual tension, sexual themes, sexual references, mention of suicide, canon-typical violence and canon divergence will find a place in the later chapters of the story. please do not read this story if you feel uncomfortable with them!
DISCLAIMERβββββββ i, however, do not own cobra kai or characters in the series, i only mode cunningham and her storylines along with the more original characters and their storylines, that will be further introduced in the book and this variation of cobra kai.
AUTHOR'S NOTEβββββββ hello readers. so johnny's going to be oc's foster father and her love interest will be robby. i'm well aware how much controversy the trope of "foster sibling" romantic relationships draws, so if you're uncomfortable with that then this isn't the story for you. also, oc and robby didn't grow up together, they don't even live together (robby is johnny's estranged son) so no weirdness or negative comments will be toleratedββexpose yourself only to the tropes you find acceptable. if you think it's disgusting then avoid it, and in the wise words of carlos rodriguez ( about beauty and the beast ) from hsmtmts, love is love and this trope is fun to read and to write about. For the readers sticking around, this is for all those robby girls, enjoy.
