❝It's a twin thing❞
Sep. 14 2149
It was the next morning, and the delinquents were fighting, again.
As the first rays of sunlight filtered through the trees, casting long shadows across the forest floor, the survivors of the crash began to stir, each grappling with their own thoughts and fears.
Wells moved through the camp, his steps heavy with the weight of responsibility. He had spent the early hours of the morning burying the two kids who had died in the chaotic landing, a grim reminder of the dangers they faced on this unfamiliar planet.
His wrist bore no wristband, a stark contrast to many of the other kids, but his lack of choice in the matter was evident to anyone who cared to look.
As he made his way back to the camp with their clothing in hand, he was approached by Atom, a member of their group whose questionable morals often left Wells feeling uneasy.
"Hey, where'd you get the clothes?" Atom asked casually, his tone belaying the seriousness of the situation.
Wells felt a surge of irritation rising within him at the other boy's nonchalant attitude. "I buried the two kids who died during the landing," he replied curtly, his voice tinged with frustration.
Atom's eyes lit up with interest at the mention of the clothing, and Wells braced himself for what he knew was coming next.
"Smart," Atom remarked, taking a step closer. "You know, I'll take it from here. There's always a market for-"
But before he could finish his sentence, Wells stepped back, instinctively pulling the clothes out of Atom's reach.
"We share based on need, just like back home," Wells said firmly, his tone leaving no room for argument.
There was a moment of tense silence between them, the gravity of Wells' words hanging heavy in the air. But instead of pushing the issue further, Atom merely nodded, a begrudging respect evident in his gaze.
"Fine," he muttered, taking a step back. "But don't come crying to me when you're freezing your ass off tonight."
With that, Atom turned on his heel and walked away, leaving Wells to think about the fragile balance of power that governed their new reality.
As he watched the other boy disappear into the crowd, Wells couldn't help but feel a sense of unease gnawing at the edges of his mind. The challenges they faced on this strange new world were only just beginning, and if they were to survive, they would need to learn to rely on each other.
But damn these kids made it hard.
"You still don't get it, do you, Chancellor?" He walks out of the dropship, shirtless, one of his conquers at his side. He kisses her before turning back to the scene, "This is home now. Your father's rules no longer apply."
Wells rolls his eyes in disgust.
Bellamy snatches a shirt out of his hands and Wells tries to get it back but one of Bellamys Bitches™ quickly stops him. Shoving him back.
Bellamy intervenes, a smirk on his face,
"Oh, no, no. Hold hold up."
"You want it back? Take it." He holds the shirt in front of Wells, taunting him.
Wells rolls his eyes before throwing the clothes on the ground and turning back to face Bellamy.
The delinquents instantly run towards the pile of the clothes like starved pigs, digging through to find anything they want.
"Is this what you want? Chaos?" Wells shouts over the noise.
To that, Bellamy replies, "What's wrong with a little chaos?"
He still didn't get it, the small-minded jackass-
As Athena stepped out of the dropship, her eyes widened in shock at the chaotic scene unfolding before her.
The air was thick with tension, and the sound of bickering and scrambling bodies filled her ears.
Her heart sank as she took in the sight of her fellow delinquents, greedily tearing through the pile of clothing like animals.
Annoyance accompanied by an unusual feeling filled her as she marched toward the center of the commotion.
She had had enough of Bellamy's reckless disregard for authority, and she wasn't about to let him get away with it this time.
But before she could unleash her wrath upon him, Bellamy held up a hand to stop her, a smirk playing at the corners of his lips.
"Whoa there, princess," he said, his tone mocking. "Before you go off on me again, remember one thing: I promised not to hurt anyone. I didn't say anything about being nice."
Athena bristled at his words, her eyebrow raised. She wanted nothing more than to give him a piece of her mind, to tell him exactly what she thought of his selfish behavior.
But as her eyes trailed down to his waistband, she let her protest die down in her throat. Fucking irrational fears.
"Fine," she muttered, her voice barely above a whisper. "I still think you're an asshole, by the way."
Bellamy's smirk widened into a grin as he watched her walk away, a spark of admiration flickering in his eyes.
Despite their differences, there was a begrudging respect between them—a recognition of each other's strengths and weaknesses that transcended their stupid arguments.
As Athena disappeared back into the dropship, Bellamy couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction wash over him.
A loud scream tears through the camp as everyone rushes over.
They're met with Murphy holding a whimpering girl over the fire.
"Bellamy. Check it out," he calls out when he sees him, proud of his psychotic deeds, "We want the Ark to think that the ground is killing us, right? Figure it'll look better if we suffer a little bit first."
Wells is angered at the sight and he quickly goes over and shoves Murphy out of the way,
"Let her go!" He then turns to Bellamy,
"You can stop this."
Bellamy arches an eyebrow, pondering his options. He could stop it, not let Athenas brother and best friend fight, keep his promise.
But before he can come to a decision, Murphy comes in front of him and lands a punch on the side of Wells' face, which has him stumbling backward.
Well, screw him for trying to be nice.
He then lands another punch to his stomach, Wells doubles over before getting up and going after Murphy.
The fight lasts for a while until Wells manages to get Murphy in a chokehold.
But luckily Clarke and the others arrive at that very moment.
"Wells, let him go!" She shouts, walking over to them.
Wells throws Murphy to the ground but he's quick to stand up and go after him but Bellamy stops him.
"Enough, Murphy!" He shouts, grabbing his shoulders. His attention is quickly taken away however as he spots Monty helping a limping Octavia down the hill.
"Octavia!" He runs over to take her out of Monty's arms.
His voice goes soft to ask her, "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," she breathes out in a wince.
Bellamy looks around to see everyone empty-handed.
"Where's the food?"
"We didn't make it to Mount Weather," Finn responds in a monotone voice.
"What the hell happened out there?" He demands
"We were attacked!" Clarke calls out, walking forward.
Wells furrows his brows as Callum walks up to stand by him.
"Attacked, by what?"
"Not what, who. It turns out when the last man from the ground died on the ark, he wasn't the last grounder." He speaks without his usual optimism.
"It's true," Clarke backs him up, "Everything we thought we knew about the ground was wrong. There are people here. Survivors. The good news is that means we can survive, radiation won't kill us."
"Yeah, but the bad news is the grounders will." Finn ends the speech.
"Where's Jasper?" Wells questions, knowing Athena would freak out if she didn't see him.
"He was hit. They took him. Where is your wristband?"
"And where the hell is Athena?" Octavia adds in, not seeing her anywhere among the crowd.
"Ask him." Wells spats, looking towards Bellamy.
Callum turns to glare at the older man as Clarke storms up to him.
"How many?" She demands
"24 and counting" Murphy replies coming to stand in front of her.
"And Athena?" Octavia questions once again. She looks up at her brother expectantly but he avoids her gaze.
"I think shes in the dropship, after being held at gunpoint last night."
Snitch.
"What the hell, Bell?"
"I'll fucking kill you, Blake," Callum move towards him but Wells stops him.
"Well, what are we waiting for?" Monty asks for the first time in the conversation.
Wells takes one last glance at Bellamy before leading them to where she was. To his dismay, Bellamy followed.
Athena had fit herself into a small opening on the third level, she was also the only one who could fit into it without a struggle.
Octavia lowers herself and speaks into the wall,
"Hey Thena, it's me, can you come out?" Octavia asks in a calm, sweet voice.
"Only if your stupid brother and his stupid friends won't try any shit again?" Everyone hears from the other side of the door.
With that Octavia glares back to her brother to which he shrugs and puts his head down. Murphy and Atom walk up,
"Hey A, we're really sorry"
"Yeah, can you please come out now, it's getting kind of lonely."
It's quiet for a second before she replies again.
"Fine, but I get to punch both of you guys as hard as I want."
To this Atom scrunches up his face,
"What, why not Bellamy too?"
"Because I think i've said enough to him to sting for a while."
Octavia puts her face in her hand to stop her laughter as Callum smirks proudly.
Murphy speaks up again, "Oh by the way your goggle boy was attacked, and he's out in the woods."
"What?!" She shrieks, hurting all of their ears.
The hatch is immediately opened and Athena is crawling out.
"Oh hi guys," she says to the crowd around her before turning back to Murphy.
"Why didn't you say that? Let's move it, people!" Athena climbs down the dropship ladder. Octavia hot on her heels.
"Well you heard the queen, let's move," she says, smirking.
The others are quick to follow.
▁▁▁▁
Athena and Monty were back on the first floor of the dropship. Waiting for Clarke to patch up wells.
Athena had her head laid on Monty's shoulder and his head atop hers. They both felt fear for the safety of their best friend. They couldn't lose their three.
They turn their heads to the commotion of Wells and Clarke coming down the stairs an argument in pursuit.
"You're not coming with us."
"My ankle's fine, Clarke," he responds tiredly
"It's not your ankle, Wells, it's you."
Athena furrows her brows at the newfound hostility towards her brother. Clarke and Wells were especially close.
What the hell happened while she was in lockup?
"Clarke, he's right. We need him. So far no one else has volunteered," Monty says, eager to save Jasper
Athena silently nodded her head in agreement.
"I'm sorry, Monty, but you're not going, either," Clarke says, carelessly
"What?" Athena questions
"Like hell, I'm not. Jasper's my best friend!"
"You're too important. You were raised on Farm Station and recruited by engineering." She states, trying to get her point across.
"So?" Athena questions once more, disappointed she couldn't have him with her.
"So food and communication. What's up here," Clarke turns to Monty and touched his head, "It's gonna save us all. You figure out how to talk to the Ark and I'll bring Jasper back"
Athena and Monty share a heartfelt hug as a goodbye and stay safe as Clarke turns her attention to Finn.
"Promise me you'll come back, alright?" Monty whispers still holding on to her.
She smiles, "I promise, and I'll bring our three back. Don't worry, can't get rid of us that easily."
They share one last hug before she exits the dropship, walking over to Octavia, Wells, Clarke, and oh her favorite person ever, Bellamy.
Callum walks over halfway as they both head towards them
"You guys going?" Octavia questions, "I'm going too."
She and Bellamy both protest,
"No way Tavi"
"No, no. No way. Not again"
They both roll their eyes at each other, turning their attention back to Octavia.
"They're right. Your leg's just gonna slow us down." Clarke says in agreement.
She then turns to Bellamy with an expecting look,
"I'm here for you"
Athena inwardly winces, crossing her arms over her chest as she observes Bellamy's approach with reluctance.
She tunes out the ongoing conversation, her attention drawn instead to a cluster of vibrant flowers in the distance. Mesmerized by their beauty, she finds herself momentarily lost in admiration.
"I wish I could take some," she muses silently, her gaze lingering on the delicate petals.
I don't know much about those ones,
They are pretty, Athena hums absentmindedly, her focus still fixed on the floral display.
Yup, admire the flowers, she chides herself inwardly, attempting to redirect her attention. Wait, no— that's Bellamy's face.
Despite her efforts, her gaze involuntarily drifts back to Bellamy, locking with his.
Their eyes connect, and for a moment, the world seems to fade away around them. His expression softens, and Athena feels a strange sensation.
"Murphy. Come with me. Atom? My sister doesn't leave this camp. Is that clear?" He demands, eyes still locked with Athena.
Wells and Callum share a look, well aware of what was going on, Clarke was too invested in planning out their rescue mission.
Only when Octavia speaks do they break their eye contact,
"I don't need a babysitter"
Athena lets out a breath as her palms start to get sweaty. She is brought back to reality though as they start to leave.
"Let's go."
▁▁▁▁
"Those guys aren't just bullies, Clarke. They're dangerous criminals."
"I'll show them dangerous," Callum mutters under his breathe, glancing over his shoulder to look at Bellamy and Murphy.
"Im counting on it," she replies, "And by now I've hope they've seen how delicate Athena is."
The said girl strolls behind the three, not bothering to listen in on their conversation, instead, she's watching the butterflies.
"Since when are we in the rescuing business, huh?" Murphy questions
"The Ark thinks the prince is dead. Once they think the princesses are, too, they'll never come down.
I'm getting those wristbands, even if I have to cut off her hand to do it." Bellamy replies, serious about his plan.
Murphy hums as he juts out his lip and raises his eyebrows. It was a good plan.
"What's the deal with her?" Bellamy tilts his head towards Athena, genuine curiosity in his voice.
Murphy nods knowingly, understanding the inquiry. "Athena?" He pauses, considering his words before continuing, "She was raised to follow the rules, you know, because of her father. Can be nonresistant, but she's really fucking strong, always seeking out the truth. And," he adds with a hint of sympathy, "she's terrified of guns."
Bellamy's expression softens as he absorbs this information, his gaze drifting back to Athena.
A pang of guilt washes over him as he realizes the weight of her fears and passion behind their exchange last night.
"She's also my best friend, do anything to hurt her and I will personally end you," he finishes.
He then runs up behind her and picks her up, spinning her around.
She lets out a shocked laugh as she looks down at him. Bellamy can't help but smile at the scene.
When Athena is put down she requests a piggyback ride, Murphy groans but quickly accepts. Hiking her up on his back, continuing their trek.
▁▁▁▁
Athena and Murphy were walking side by side when Bellamy rushes to the front of the group,
"Hey, hold up. What's the rush? You don't survive a spear through the heart." He questions, waving his gun around.
Athena takes in a sharp breath as she moves to stand slightly behind her brothers, wrapping her arms around her chest.
Bellamy catches sight of her distress and puts the gun back in his holster, sighing as he did so.
"Jasper screamed when they moved him. If the spear struck his heart, he'd have died instantly," Clarke responds to his previous statement, "It doesn't mean we have time to waste."
Bellamy grabs her arm stopping her from walking any further,
"As soon as you take this wristband off, we can go,"
She snatches her wrist away from his grasp, glaring at him.
"The only way the Ark is gonna think I'm dead is if I'm dead. Got it?"
Bellamy smirks at the intimidation,
"Brave princess," he taunts.
"Hey, why don't you find your own nickname?"
Everyone turns their head towards the voice, Athena smiles at the sight of Finn.
"You call this a rescue party? Got to split up, cover more ground. Clarke, come with me."
As they left, Wells turned to the group.
"We should split up too, we'll go together," he gestured to himself, Athena, and Callum.
Bellamy clearly didn't like the idea as he shakes his head.
"Athena can go with us."
Her eyebrows raise in shock.
"Absolutely not."
"Why the hell would she go with you two?"
The two boys protest at the same time and Athena cant help bur agree.
Why would she go with Bellamy? Sure, he was undeniably gorgeous, but he was such a prick. She sighed, composing herself.
"We'll just go as a group, now lets go, we're wasting time." She furrows her brows as they all nod in agreement before following after her.
▁▁▁▁
They had been walking for an hour when they spotted a lake.
They had collectively decided that they were taking a break.
Athena had pulled her jacket off and taken her shoes off to sit by the side of the lake. But before she could sit down, she felt two arms wrap around her waist.
She gasps and turns to look at Bellamy, a smirk on his face.
"No, no! Bellamy put me down!" She shrieks
Bellamy jumps into the lake, Athena still in his arms.
They come up to the surface and Athena pushes his shoulder playfully.
"Asshole."
She walks over to where Wells sits, pulling herself out of the water.
"Hey bro," she says, a smile still on her face
"Hey sis," he responds, mocking her, making her giggle.
She sits next to him as they admire the earth. She still couldn't believe they were really here. And water, oh my gosh, water was her new favorite thing.
Though she would never admit it to Bellamy.
▁▁▁▁
They had caught up with Clarke and Finn and were getting closer to Jasper.
"Hey, how do we know this is the right way?" Murphy voices his skepticism
"We don't. Spacewalker thinks he's a tracker." Bellamy replies
He couldn't stay nice for five damn minutes.
"It's called cutting sign. Fourth-year earth skills. He's good," Wells & Athena say at the same time.
"That was creepy, what is that like a twin thing?"
"It's a twin thing, but I also do it with other people," Athena answers
"Athena," Finn grabs her hand, silently shushing her, "The rest of you, you want to keep it down, or should I paint a target on your backs?" Finn says, looking back at the group.
"See? You're invisible," Bellamy whispers to Wells, making Athena & Callum roll their eyes.
Suddenly, a loud moan sounds through the woods, making everyone turn their head.
"Jasper," Clarke & Athena both breathe out before rushing to the origin of the sound.
"Thena, Clarke, be careful!" Finn calls out to the two of them.
They keep running until they end up in an open space, Jasper is tied to a tree in the middle, and cuts and scratches all over him.
"Jasper? What the hell is this?" Clarke questions, running ahead again only for the ground to give out under her.
Athena, not far behind her, also slips but she's caught before she can fall into the ditch. She looks up to see Bellamy holding her.
He hesitates for a moment, staring at her wrist in her hand, before quickly standing her up.
She nods her head as a thank you as Finn, Wells, Callum, and Murphy help Clarke out of the ditch.
"You okay?" Finn asks Clarke
"Yeah, we need to get him down." She pants
"I'll climb up there and cut the vines."
"Yeah, yeah, I'm with you." Wells volunteers
"No, stay with Athena and Clarke. And watch him," he looks at Bellamy before turning to Murphy & Callum, "You two, Let's go."
"There's a poultice on his wound," Clarke observes from her place on the ground
"Medicine?" Wells asks
"Why would they save his life just to string him up as live bait?" Athena questions out loud
"Maybe what they're trying to catch likes its dinner to be breathing," Bellamy responds, always the optimist
"Maybe what they're trying to catch is us."
"Finn!" Athena scolds from her place on the ground, she was already scared and they weren't helping.
"Hurry up, Murphy," Finn says as they cut off the vines
"Be careful," Athena calls up to them
A startling growl rings out from the trees and they all look around confused.
"Grounders?" Bellamy questions
Just then, a panther leaps out, charging towards them.
Bellamy grabs Athena and pulls her out of the way, shielding her with his body.
"Bellamy, gun!"
He feels around for his gun but it was missing.
Just then gunshots ring out and everyone turns towards Wells, holding the gun.
It's silent for a while until the panther jumps out once more, headed straight for Athena and Bellamy.
Wells finally shoots it in the chest, killing the animal.
Athena gasps and sits up, staring at the panther.
Bellamy nods up at the two boys from his spot on the ground, silently telling them he has her.
She then realizes she's still in Bellamy's grasp, so she gently pulls out and stands up.
"Now she sees you," Bellamy says pointedly to Wells.
