background :: saffron is the third child and only daughter of graham and valora delphine. the delphines are a very close and supportive family. saffron was eight years old when her little brother max was born. she was really excited to have younger sibling, at first it was mainly so she could boss him around like her older brother, hunter, did to her but saffron fell in love with max when he fell asleep in her arms after she held him for the first time and made it her mission to keep him safe and protect him. max quickly became saffron's favourite sibling and it drove carter, her oldest brother, up the wall that his little brother who was 18 years younger than him had taken that title away from him. when saffron was reaped, her family was devastated. hunter was furious more than anything else, the year prior had been his last of being eligible to be reaped, if only he had been a year younger, he could've volunteered in place of orion, the boy who had been reaped alongside saffron, and ensure the safety of his sister in the arena.

how did they win :: while it sounds ridiculous, saffron used being one of the youngest tributes in her games to her advantage. during public training, she'd converse with the other tributes and be friendly with them, but not to form an alliance (although she did with orion and the two tributes from district 6), but to make them hesitate if they were met face to face in the arena, to make them feel guilty that they were about to kill the fourteen year old girl that had been so nice to them during their time training in the capitol. then while they were distracted, one of saffron's allies would come out of hiding and kill the tribute. the tactic worked at the start, but as the amount of people left decreased, and her own allies were dead, the remaining tributes were becoming desperate, willing to do whatever it took to go back home to their district and saffron had to turn to violence to keep herself alive. in the end it was between saffron and the male tribute from district 10, allio. it wasn't a long fight, in fact there was hardly a fight at all. saffron crept up on allio while he was searching for her and threw her spear at him, piercing him right in the back of his head. he died almost instantly and saffron was declared victor of the 73rd hunger games, sharing the title of youngest ever victor with finnick odair.

how were they afterwards :: like many victors after winning their games, saffron was left traumatised and she experienced a lot of survivor's guilt. for a few months after winning she thought she could hear the fallen tributes whispering insults in her ear and swore she could see them staring at her in the yard at school but those episodes managed to go away after a about five or six months. all the while saffron did her best to not let the games change her too much, to not let snow change her too much. she hasn't fully recovered from it, no victor ever could, but she's better than how she was two years prior.

opinion on the quarter quell :: saffron had just escaped the clutches of the hunger games two years ago and now with the possibility of going back in and having to kill people again, it's too much for her. she's worried, for her own fate and for how her family will act if she is reaped.
