when she was little, she would try anything to get her parents to actually find interest in her, to try to show them that she was worth their attention. so, she pushed herself to be the best at everything she did. no matter how hard she had to practice or how long she had to study. though no matter how hard she tried it was almost always pointless. they were too enwrapped with their own lives, and their own work.

in her third year, she meet remus lupin, who she had previously hated due to the fact that he was in the marauders friend group and she had labeled them all a nuisance in her mind. she found him in her usual study spot, reading one of her favorite books and after a single conversation a friendship was born. the one catch was that, if astrid hung out with remus then she would ultimently have to be around his group. the only other one she could get along with even a little bit was peter. james and sirius were bothersome beyond belief to her.

anya and james were the perfect definition of frenemies. james loved nothing more than to find ways to get the girl mad and get under her skin, he thought of it as a game. a fun way to spend his time and a source of entertainment. as for astrid, she wasted no time giving him blunt cold remarks in retaliation to his teasing. she prided herself on making him look like a fool. they're passive aggressive to each other and often time james overly flirts with her just because he knows it grosses her out and annoys her.

the only think that broke them out of their hatred from one another is the time where they both unintentionally found each other in the astrology tower. james had been down over a fight in his friend group and anya was down about her home life. turned out that they ended up venting to each other, they never brought up that night after that but they did lay off each other. tolerating each other more and forming a sort of relatable closeness. the closer they got the more that feelings began to bubble up, even though astrid hated herself for harboring the feelings which is why she tries to ignore the said feelings
