40) Sacrifices

Loki sighed. These daggers weren't doing him any good. Besides, Old Loki survived by using magic. He could do the same.

He had multiple cuts along his arms from where Mordo had barely hit him, surprisingly the Midgardian was fast. Faster than he realized and faster than Thor. Thor kept shooting lighting and hitting the ground with his hammer, allowing Loki to avoid it.

"You guys are really starting to get annoying." Loki said with a grunt.

He shot a blast of green magic at Thor, moving him back a few inches but over all not doing much. Mordo ran at him and he teleported behind him, summoning his dagger and aiming to stab him in the back.

Classic Loki.

Unfortunately, Mordo must've guessed he would do that, and he slid himself forwards, turning around and ramming Loki through the stomach with his own sword.

Loki froze on the impact, looking down at the sword that was now sticking out of his back.

"Well that hurt." He gave an annoyed look to Mordo.

Mordo glared at him, pulling the sword back out and causing blood to gush from Loki's wound. Loki stumbled a bit, his vision growing hazy. The feeling of dying didn't help when one of Thor's lightning blasts finally landed a hit, sending Loki flying backwards. He hit a wall and slid down.

His hand was on his stomach, doing a terrible job at keeping the blood from pouring out.

—————

Wanda had flown down next to her brother. Why did it have to be him? She wanted to save him. She could have saved him!

Maybe if she hadn't attacked Jean, the past version of herself would be happy. It was always her fault.

Her attention was drawn away from Pietro as an even worse feeling shot through her mind. Her eyes widened and she flew herself towards the distress call.

From in the air, she saw Loki and Strange defeated, Strange knocked out with a lot of blood on his face, and Loki about to pass out with a lot of blood on his stomach.

Their attackers were Mordo, Wanda guessed, and a god she used to be on a team with; Thor.

She flew herself down, landing on the ground harshly and sending a ripple of red magic through the cracks in the ground. She faced the opposers, the image of Loki and Strange in pain filling her mind.

Mordo went to strike her first, his sword overhead. Wanda barely moved in her motion to fight back.

Her arms twirled, fingers curling as red magic shot towards him, taking over his motions and forcing him to behead himself.

Thor gave an audible gasp, shouting what he must've thought was offensive: "How could you, witch!?"

Mordo's head hit the ground, his body following shortly after. Thor rasied his hammer and shot a heavy blast of lightning at her.

Wanda raised her hands and a red shield caught the blast, turning the lighting into butterflies that happily flew away. Her eyes were glowing red and Thor charged at her.

She tilted her head, not moving.

Her fingers were spread out, red magic flowing around and between them. She stared down Thor as he ran closer.

His legs began growing a clear blue color, and his running slowed. Instead he began sliding along the pathway. The blue color trailed up his legs, going onto his stomach, to his chest and arms.

"It's so.. cold!" Thor exclaimed, attempting to move but unable to as the blue made it's way up to his neck, then covered his head.

He should be cold. He was now an ice sculpture. One that was standing out in the sun. Wanda closed her fist and the sunlight got the best of the man, melting him into nothing but a puddle.

All the remained was his hammer, and a pile of water.

Wanda released a heavy breath before turning around and rushing over to Loki, who was still bleeding out.

"Wanda?" He asked, his voice faint.

"No no no no. Why are you bleeding? I thought you couldn't die!" Wanda said, putting her hands on his wound since his own hands had fallen.

"Wanda, I need to tell you something." He breathed.

"No. Don't tell me some bullshit quote then die on me." Wanda said, tears rising to her eyes.

"Wanda-"

"Please. Please tell me this is a joke. You've got an illusion standing behind me?" Wanda asked, her hands covered in his blood.

"I'm a- afraid not." Loki said. He winced as Wanda touched the wound.

"Please.."

Wanda's voice fell as Loki grew still. His head tilted to the side and his eyelids shut. A tear fell from Wanda's cheek as his body grew colder than it usually was.

No no no. First Pietro, now Loki? No. She refused. She couldn't lose anyone else.

She kept her hand on his stomach, red magic forming in her hands once more. Lighting that had hit Loki began exiting his body in small shock waves, making Wanda's fingers tingle as a spark hit her.

Strange, who'd been slowly regaining himself, pushed himself up. The first thing he saw was the decapitated head of Mordo, and that caused him to jump, then he saw the rest of the man's body and Mjolnir sitting next to a puddle.

He turned his head and saw Wanda sitting, her hand on Loki. The first thing he knew, Loki was gone. He could sense it.

Wanda was bringing him back.

Strange forced himself to stand. She couldn't do that. It was against all laws of nature, the universe could crack from a single life being brought back!

"Wanda, stop!" He shouted, but she wasn't listening.

He hurried over to her, but when he made it, what he saw scared him. He watched as Loki's skin repaired itself, the blood that had left his body coming back to him, somehow cleaned.

He put his hand on Wanda's shoulder, trying to get her attention, but she wasn't budging. Her eyes glowed red, she almost looked as if she were in a trance.

While his hand was on her, the side of his face that had been hit by Mjolnir began repairing itself as well. He gave a grunt in pain as the skin reformed on his face.

"Wanda!" He shouted once more, but it was like she couldn't hear him.

"Breathe." She whispered, her voice like a siren's.

Strange let go of her, taking a step back.

On command, Loki awoke with a start, and that broke Wanda's trance. He immediately looked down, moving his hand to the hole that was previously on his stomach, only to find that it was no longer there.

He looked at Wanda, shock and a tinge of fear on his face. Wanda gave a breath of relief and she stood up, holding out her hand to help him up. He looked like he'd seen a ghost, and he hesitantly took her hand and stood up.

He made eye contact with Strange, who had a similar look on his own face.

"Well then." Loki brushed a hand through his hair.

—————

B-15 entered the battlefield. Mobius was still in the TVA, for he hadn't been assigned to this fight.

Kang didn't have many people anymore. Sure he had the hunters and the sorcerers, but all of them were dying. For some reason, these other variants were stronger than he thought.

So Kang brought himself towards the land that the fight was on. Afterall, his greatest remaining weapons were now roasted marshmallows and puddles of water.

He stopped as he saw his telepath laying on the ground. Her whole body was burned up and she looked like a french fry that spent too much time in an air fryer, but he needed her for one last job.

—————

America held the gauntlet. A random sorcerer would break into the room every now and then and attempt at attacking her, but thankfully she knew a few moves and managed to knock them all out.

Now there was a pile of limp bodies on the side of the room. She felt kind of bad for them, but it was kind of their fault.

She was doing fine until a force went into her head and caught her off guard, forcing her to stumble into a wall in order to regain herself.

Then the force spoke to her.

"Send yourself to us. Your friends are dying and you are their only chance of saving them."

Images of fallen sorcerers, some guy in a blue suit she didn't recognize, Loki, and worst of all; Steven, entered her head. All of them were dead or dying.

"Give yourself over, as well as the gauntlet, and we will show mercy. Chose not to and the rest of your team will die."

An image of Kamala appeared in her mind. The teenager got stabbed with the end of a TVA prune stick. Her body erupted into sparks and she disappeared.

America's eyes widened. She couldn't let her friends die.

She was their only hope. They'd been defending her and the gauntlet. But she couldn't let them die for her.

—————

Strange flew over to Wong, who was dealing with TVA hunters. He was holding himself pretty well, and Strange helped him fight off more as he began talking.

"I need the stones, now." He stated.

"Of course, now. Right when the battle is in full motion. Give me a sec."

Wong sent a TVA hunter flying into two more, and he quickly opened a portal for Strange. The six stones fell out and Strange's cloak caught them.

"Appreciate it." Strange nodded to him.

Wong gave a nod back, then continued his fighting as Strange flew back up, going back over to Wanda and Loki.

"Is that America?" Loki asked, looking up at the sky.

The 16 year old was flying through the air, not holding the gauntlet but still showing herself. On the other side of the sky was Kang, who was floating forward as if something else was moving him.

Strange pressed a hand to the inner corners of his eyes.

"Yeah that's her." He sighed.

"I'll clear an area for you. No time like the present." Loki shrugged.

Wanda nodded.

"Don't die again." She ordered.

"No promises." He replied with a wink.

Strange rolled his eyes and tossed Loki two of the infinity stones, which the god caught in a small green bubble. Then Strange and Wanda flew up into the air.

—————

"You wanted me old man? I'm here." America said, staring down the man who wanted to kill her.

"Where's my gauntlet?" Kang asked, not amused by how she was acting.

"Hidden. You get me or the gauntlet. Not both." She replied.

"Fine."

He took out a gun from his suit, not a regular pistol or anything fancy. It looked like something America had seen on another world. She was shot at and she closed her eyes, ready to be hit. That hit never came.

She opened her eyes and saw Steven in front of her, arms stretched out to block her.

He didn't look like he was in pain. The gun wasn't one to kill, it was one to trap. Strange couldn't move, the gun was directing his motions.

Luckily, his eyes were free. Strange stared at America, then did his best to glare down to where Loki was. America gave a confused look, then a red blast of magic hit Kang, ripping off part of his armor off and Strange was released.

"Come on!" He grabbed America's hand and pulled her towards the ground.

Wanda levitated, magic in her hands as she turned to fly back to the others. However, a blast of fire knocked her off guard, throwing her through the air.

She used her magic to stop herself, and Jean Grey came flying towards her. Her face was burnt and most of her hair was disintegrated. Wanda's eyes narrowed and she prepared herself.

Jean used all the force she could as she rammed into Wanda, but Wanda held steady, red magic defending her.

"You look worse." She mentioned before restarting their duel.

—————

B-15 held her prune stick as she walked through the fight. She saw the variant, Sylvie, up on a large rock, stabbing and enchanting everyone who went near her.

Next to the variant was a black haired goddess who was throwing swords and brutally killing everyone she saw, they didn't even have to be messing with her.

B-15 stayed back. Something was keeping her from fighting. She didn't know what, but she couldn't go against these people.

She looked around, trying to find something that would give her reason to leave. She soon found that reason as she saw the variant of Wanda fighting Jean up in the sky.

Her head ached and she quickly casted a time door, hurrying through. Their team was losing anyways, might as well save herself.

She ran into the library, head hurting worse than it had on the battlefield. The time door shut and she let out a groan of pain, now stumbling as her vision went dark.

She hit a bookshelf and all of the other shelves began toppling over. She fell on her butt, hands gripping her head.

Then everything became clear.

"For all time. Always."

B-15 tossed Sylvie her sword before Ravonna attacked her.

"Ready?" "Ready."
"They must be here.."
"Now."

B-15 and Wanda were hidden in a school hallways before revealing to the hunters who Renslayer actually was.

More images of the time before Kang flowed through her mind, Sylvie showing her the past life she once had, Mobius saving her from the cell Ravonna put her in.

"Hey! B-15!"

Mobius snapped her out of her daze and she gave a heavy breath as she looked up at the man.

"They were telling the truth."

—————

Jean hit the ground, hard. Red particles lifted off of her chest and Wanda wiped sweat off of her forehead.

"And stay dead this time." She muttered before flying down to the other magic users.

Kang was taking his time as he floated down to them. He didn't look scared in the least. The four stood next to each other, staring at him as he landed on the ground in front of them.

"So you've come to pick a fight with the devil?" He asked, his voice almost taunting.

"Yeah. Wouldn't be the first time." Loki summoned his daggers.

Strange revealed two of the infinity stones, specifically the space and soul one, and he tossed them to Wanda, who caught them with her magic.

"Is that supposed to scare me?" Kang asked with a laugh.

"Your team is dead, who's supposed to defend you now?" America asked, hands in fists.

"I don't need them to defend me. They were my weapons. All weapons dull out eventually. Guess I have to use my fists now." Kang replied.

Strange gave a confused look before "Ohhhhh"ing. "I get it, I get it." He nodded.

Kang had been so focused on the four in front of him, that he failed to see Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau behind him.

A heavy energy shield formed around them, and Kang glanced upwards at it before glancing behind him and seeing the two Marvels on the other side of the shield.

"You've done nothing but trap yourself." He remarked.

"Perhaps, but you're stuck here too." Loki smirked.

"Is that so?"

Kang went to reach for something in his suit, only to reveal that it wasn't there.

"Looking for something?" Wanda asked, pulling out a Tempad from her pocket.

She glanced to Loki with a small smirk.

"I learned a few tricks."

Kang's smile dropped to an annoyed grimace.

"Fine. I'll just have to kill you first."

"You can certainly try."

My favorite quote of this chapter: "Of course, now. Right when the battle is in full motion. Give me a sec."
