Chapter Thirty-Six~The Laboratory
My heart pounded in my throat as she slowly opened the door. The five of us walked in, and I gasped as Tam's eyes widened.
It was a laboratory, with a operating bed sitting directly in the middle. On the sides of the room there were counters with weird looking devices and IV bags. I ran my hand over the smooth white counter. The floors were painted stark white, as was the ceiling. The floors were tiled, and the floor underneath the empty bed was stained in blood. Blood.
"What is this place...?" Sophie asked quietly. Keefe wrapped his arms around her waist to steady her.
"Just a little experimentation room," Gisela hinted.
"Experiment? What are you experimenting on?" Tam asked quickly, trying to keep the fear out of my voice. I squeezed his hand tighter.
"So you really haven't figured it out..." She mumbled, "Hm. Well, no matter! I think it's time you four get some answers." She suddenly yanked Tam's arm and pulled him to a corner of the room.
"Let him go!" I cried.
"Don't worry, dear. You'll get you're turn after Shadowvaper over here. You all will." I could feel my body shake. I suddenly wanted to cry.
"Don't lay a hand on her," Tam growled.
"Torture me all you want," Keefe said, "Burn me, kill me, slice me, cut me up into little pieces, but don't you dare place a hand on Sophie."
Sophie gasped, and I saw her eyes fill with tears, "Keefe—no—"
"Enough!" Gisela cried, "I'd had enough of your sacrifices! I actually don't need the Moonlark my son as of right now. I want them to watch this, before it's they're turn," Gisela said, "Guards, take them both to the other room," She snapped her fingers, and two guards rushed in, escorting Keefe and Sophie to another room, hopefully nearby.
I turned my attention back to Tam, "What are you—you—going to do to him...?" I choked, trying to hold back my tears, "I thought you—you needed... Me. Not h—him."
"I need both of you sweetheart. I have to, well, let's just put it this way. I need to extract your talents, and then insert them into my subjects."
"Wha—WHAT?!" I cried.
"Are you CRAZY?!" Tam shouted, trying to shake away from Gisela's grip, "What is wrong with you?!"
Suddenly, I realized the other part of Gisela's sentence, "Who... Who are your—" I swallowed, "Subjects..."
"No one you know," She cackled, "Just a human. You're a smart girl, Biana. You see what I'm doing, don't you?"
Suddenly, it all clicked. Why Gisela needed Tam and I. Why she needed our talents. Gisela was going to steal our talents and give them to a human. Because Keefe wasn't willing to cooperate with her. So she was going to use—to use—a human. She was going to make the moonlark. And she was going to kill us in the process.
