Eight counsellors stood in the orientation room, chattering amongst themselves. Some were filling each other in of the events they'd endured in the past year, while others were meeting for the first time. There was a low, dull hubbub, the contented sound of happy young adults.

The camp owner, Mr Hackett, now entered the room, clearing his throat and waving a piece of paper torn from a notepad. "Listen up, counsellors," he called, catching the attention of the group. "We've had a few people cancel last minute, so there's been a bit of a change around with some of your workloads." He pinned the note to the corkboard, detailing the list of counsellors and their allocated roles for the summer.

"Clementine," he turned to the girl, who looked up. "I had you down as wildlife assistant under Laura Kearney, but she and Max can't make it, so you're in charge of wildlife training and first aid support, got it?"

Clementine nodded, her bright orange bob swaying as she did. "Yes, sir."

"In years previous, we've had one sports coach and one sailing coach, but this year we've combined the two." Mr Hackett faced Aidan and Sam, pointing to each in turn. "Aidan, you're in charge. Sam, you're assisting, and you're the lead activities co-ordinator."

Aidan nodded, compliant. "You got it, Mr H."

Sam, however, held two fingers to his forehead in salute. "Sir, yes, sir!" he joked, a grin plastered to his face.

"That sense of humour will serve you well with the campers, Mr Fisher," Mr Hackett warned, "but not with me."

Sam quickly dropped his hand and his grin. "Sorry, Mr H."

Mr Hackett turned to Astrid, Aidan's younger sister, who was rubbing at the red and blue braided cords of her bracelet. "Astrid, as it's your first year as a counsellor, I have you assisting theatre and dance with Celeste." Astrid smiled politely as she nodded while Celeste squealed, hugging the dark-haired girl and bouncing with joy.

"We're gonna have so much fun!" she beamed.

"Conrad, still on scheduling and announcements," Mr Hackett continued. "Cassie, arts again this year, as well as activities assistant for Sam. Jackson, upgraded to kitchen supervisor," he began listing before he stopped. "We're still in need of assistants for wildlife training, arts and craft, and two kitchenhands. Any takers?" He turned back to the group.

Clementine quickly raised her hand before Mr Hackett pointed to her. "Not you, Miss Graves, you have enough on your plate."

She slowly lowered her hand before shoving both hands into her pockets, her cheeks beginning to match the shade of her bright red jacket as she bit down hard on her bottom lip.

"Anyone?" Mr Hackett asked the group again.

Do you accept any of the assistant roles?

A/N: characters can have a main role and an assistant role, or in Astrid's case, more than one assistant role. Multiple takings for the same role will be decided at my discretion best suited for story progression. Clementine is unavailable for any additional roles (sorry Granger!).

Available roles:
1 assistant wildlife training
1 assistant art tutor
2 kitchen assistants
