in which a girl wishing for love accidentally uses her quirk on a stranger, not knowing that it will lead her to form a friendship with the son of the no. 1 pro hero
โฌฆโฌฆโฌฆโฌฆ
MISAKA FUJIMURA is lonely, but not in the way one might think. Sure, she has family and friends, but even then she feels like she has this ache in her heart, like something is missing. Like someone is missing.
She feels the ache every day she works in her mother's flower shop. Each time a person comes in looking to get a bouquet of flowers for their lover, a couple ask for an arrangement for their wedding, or a young man or woman searching for the perfect decoration to impress their date, it makes the ache worse. Call her sappy and hopelessly romantic, but Misaka is looking for a love of her own, and she wishes for someone to come and sweep her off her feet like the way she sees it in cheesy romance movies or old fashioned fairy tales.
How funny it is that she can't seem to find a soul to connect to when her Quirk relies on this very concept.
Able to form an internal connection with people through a "soul string" created by her Quirk, the girl can sense things through these "strings" such as pain or emotions. The stronger the emotional bond she has with that person, the stronger the "string" and her connection to them becomes. Misaka doesn't understand why she was given such a power. What good is her Quirk if it can't help her find love, even though she's connected to so many souls?
That changes the day she meets a boy with a quiet voice and red and white hair. Without her knowing, her Quirk activates and creates a soul string between them, but this one is different. This one is stronger than the others, stronger than it should be, and Misaka is confused when the string leads her to U.A. High.
When the boy comes to the flower shop one day, she suddenly realizes what she's done. Not only has the girl created a connection with a stranger, but with the son of the No. 1 Pro Hero no less. Afraid of a potential disaster, Misaka desperately attempts to break the connection, but the string stays strong, and what she doesn't know is that Shoto Todoroki has already sensed it. Cautious and yet confused, the boy wants to know why he has this strange feeling, and in following the feeling it leads him to the flower shop and the girl.
With this strange turn of events now in full swing, there's no way for either of them to turn back now. Their souls are connected and there seems to be no way to break them apart. But from this mistake comes something good as Misaka starts to get to know Shoto better and he her. As time passes, she begins to see the boy as a friend, someone she can talk to without feeling weird. Shoto doesn't seem to mind that she likes ramen a little too much or that she can ramble on about the meaning of certain flowers or predict the plots of every romance film ever. In fact, he finds it rather nice. To become a future hero, it helps to know how civilians live their lives, and through Misaka he learns that and more. Being with her is like having a little place in time that is just his to enjoy, untouched by the influences of his school life or his father, some place where he can just be himself.
The more time the two spend together, the more Misaka starts to wonder if her feelings for the boy go beyond their friendship. But that's ridiculous, right? She can't be in love with the son of Endeavor. It wouldn't be right. It wouldn't be possible, not for a simple civilian like her.
She realizes that her situation is similar to the story of a fairy tale, the ones where the poor peasant girl falls in love with the handsome prince even though she knows she has no chance of being with him. And to complicate her already complicated feelings, there is a possibility that Shoto might be in love with someone else, if the girl Misaka is starting to notice hanging around him is anything to go by.
So why? Why had her Quirk created a connection between them if all she was going to do was fall in love with him? Confused and afraid, the girl starts to distance herself from her friend, not wanting to hurt him in case she does accidentally confess her feelings. Love or not, she still values having him in her life and she doesn't want to lose him, even if she must repress her romantic feelings for him to do so.
But Misaka Fujimura and Shoto Todoroki are bound by more than just her Quirk now. They are bound by a bond that will take much more than a few obstacles to break. It's a bond that will soon be tested when Misaka is suddenly thrown into a dangerous situation, one that will require both of their strength to overcome.ย
