[SEASON ONE: EPISODE FOUR]
When Johnny found Ethan beaten and bruised, he picked him up and walked over to his car. He sat him down in the passenger seat, closed it, walking over to the door side, then started up his vehicle.
And once they arrive at the apartment complex, Johnny pick him up again, and head for his mother's house. He knocked on the door, and Elizabeth immediately opened it to see her son in pain.
"Oh, my god!" She cried out, taking Ethan from him, and placed her son down on the couch.
"I don't want you anywhere near my son, again! Do you understand me?"
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have never gotten involved." He said, as Elizabeth gave him an angry look and went to shut the door behind the blonde man.
"Sensei, wait! Cobra Kai never dies!" Williams yelled, but his mother completely shut the door.
Johnny walked back over to his own apartment and not even saying a single word about what just happened.
The next day after Ethan was with his mother, and she banished Johnny for getting near her son. He sat down on the couch, as Elizabeth attended to his wounds.
"Hold this ice on your ribs." She said, handing an ice pack and a cup of ice cold water to him.
"Thanks, mom." He said, as he slightly wined in pain, from putting the ice pack on
his stomach.
"Ethan, why didn't you tell me you were getting back into karate again?"
"Because I wanted to see if it was really true."
"True about what?" She asked, gesturing at his injuries.
"That all those things Mr. LaRusso said about him wereโ"
"No!"
"It's not Sensei Lawrence's fault. I just... was distracted." He said, and sat straight up on the couch.
"No. No more karate." Elizabeth said, pointing at him.
"That man is a bad influence."
"He's not. You don't know him. He really does care about his students unlike the man Mr. Miyagi talked about."
"I know he's not a good person."
"He is a good person. If you knew him, you'd see how nice he actually is." He said, quickly sitting straight up.
Meanwhile, at Johnny's apartment, he was passed out from being drunk, and his phone started to ring, making him stir awake instantly.
"Who is this?" He asked, answering the phone and accidentally turned on the speaker.
"Mr. Lawrence, this is Ms. Jekins, the vice principal at Robby's school. We spoke a couple of mouths ago."
"Right, yeah. Hi. I remember you." Johnny said, standing up from the floor.
"I'm sorry if I'm interrupting the big canoe trip. As much as I appreciate a boy and his father bonding on the mighty Colorado, your note said he'd be gone two weeks, but it's been almost a month."
"Wait. Are you saying Robby's been out of school for a month?" He asked.
"I'm sure it's okay to lose track of time on the river. I grew up on the Mississippi Delta, if your son's not back in school this week, we'll have to discuss holding him back." She said.
"Oh, he'll be there. Don't worry." Johnny said, and she tried to say something else, but he hung up the phone. He sighed and stepped out of his apartment, where Ethan was waiting for him.
"Hey, Sensei. My mom says I can't train with you anymore. But I had this idea that maybe if we went to the dojo beforeโ" He started.
"You don't get it, kid. There is no dojo. I'm closing it up. It's over."
"What about me? I.... I need you."
"Sorry, kid. I gotta go." Sensei said, walking towards his car and climbed into to pay his son a little visit.
At West Valley High School, Aisha walked down the stairs, and people were making pig noises at her direction. Then, Sam suddenly noticed the kids that was making those sounds.
"Hey, how are you feeling?"
"I'm gone viral. How do you think really I'm am?" Aisha questioned, as a group of kids walked pass her, making pig noises.
"Look, they're mean. But they have short memories. They'll forget."
"Well, I won't forget." She said, angrily slamming her locker and walked away from her. Before Sam could say anything, Kyler came up from behind and wrapped his arms around her.
"Hey! There's my girl." He said.
"Hey."
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing."
"I got movie tickets." Kyler said, holding up two tickets for a movie in his hand.
"You sure I'm not dragging you?" Sam asked, as she furrowed her eyebrows in confusion.
"No, it'll be fun." He said.
"You know it's probably one of those dying teenagers in love movies, right?" She asked, and before he could answer, he slowly glanced at Brucks, who was made an inappropriate sucking motion with his hand.
"Yeah, I love tragic shit."
"Really?"
"Just promise me you won't tease me if I, like, start to tear up." He said, as Sam softly laughed.
"Hey, I've gotta get to class, but I'll see you tonight." She said, and leaned up to kiss him.
In Northern Hills, California, Johnny arrived at Shannon's apartment, and music was blasting from the inside. He continuously knocked loudly on the door.
After a few minutes, he got really mad and opened the door himself, finding three surprised teenagers boys.
"Sorry to interrupt your circle jerks."
"What the hell? Don't you knock?" Robby asked.
"Been knocking for five minutes. Guess you couldn't hear me over that trash in your boom box." He said, glancing at the small music box in the boy's hand.
"What the hell's a boom box?"
"What the hell is that thing on your face?" Johnny asked, pointing over at the boy's mustache.
"It's a mustache." He said, as the other laughed at him.
"What are you doing here?"
"Got a call from your principal. Heard about our trip to Colorado."
"Well, I had not idea what a real father-son trip looked like, so I had to use my imagination. If makes you feel any better, next time you can pick where we go." He smirked.
"This isn't about us. It's about the fact you should be in school, not wasting your life hanging around with these jackholes." Johnny said, pointing at his son's friends.
"Hey, screw you, man!"
"SCREW YOU!"
"Is your mom around?" He asked, but after a few seconds, already knew the answer to that.
"What am I saying? Of course she's not. It's three in the afternoon. It's happy hour somewhere."
"Don't, talk about my mom like that." Robby said, angrily, standing up.
"Look, I get it. School can be a drag. But you got your whole future ahead of you."
"Ooh! Does that mean I can grow up and have my own strip mall Karate school?" He asked, making the other boys snickered.
"I'm not talking about me, all right? You could make something of yourself." Johnny said, calmly, and stepped closer to him.
"Like your old pal Daniel LaRusso? Must be nice being a winner." Robby said, smirking.
"Whatever. Go to school. I really don't care."
"See that's the thing, you don't care or this wouldn't have taken so long."
"The school just called me this morning."
Ethan, Demteri, and Eli were in the library in West Valley High, sitting down at a table, working on homework, but also talking about random things.
"So that's it? No more karate?" Demteri asked, slightly looking at him.
"I guess so." He said, continuing working on his biology work.
"It's probably for the best. It was starting to boost your confidence."
"Isn't that sort of a great thing?" Williams asked.
"What has confidence ever gotten anybody except for a black eye and their backpack thrown in the trash?"
"Well, I thought it was kinda of cool how you stood up to Kyler." Eli said, quietly.
"Are you insane? What is the best superpower that anyone could have?" Demteri asked.
"Super speed."
"Wrong! Invisibility." He said, and the boy gave him a confused look.
"A distant second would be flying to run away."
"Run away from who?" A voice asked, from behind Eli and Ethan, as it was revealed to Kyler and Brucks.
"Whom. It's the object of a preparation. Remember English class."
"We were.... Just leaving." He said, standing up from the table and quickly grab his things with his friends.
"Where are you going? Oh, look at this freak."
"Oh shit!" Kyler said, grabbing ahold of Eli, as Brucks laughed mockingly.
"What kind of girl would kiss this shit?"
"Don't touch him."
"What did you say? You haven't had enough Shithead?" He said, shoving Ethan back, and before Demteri could leave, someone grabbed his backpack.
"No, come on. Not in the trash. I just threw a yogurt in there."
"Now it's double dip." Kyler said, as the boy picked up his backpack from the trash, all covered in yogurt, and quickly walked out of
the library.
And what they didn't know, was Samantha LaRusso was behind the bookshelf, listening in on the whole scene, now realizing that her boyfriend is a bully, and more importantly he was bullying Ethan.
After school had ended, Ethan walked towards the load of buses until a loud car horn started blasting loudly.
"Ethan!" Elizabeth shouted from inside the car. He stepped over to his mother's car, and hopped in.
"Hey."
"Surprise!" She said, cheerfully.
"I changed my shift so we can go to the movies and see that new Captain America movie."
"And to keep me away from doing what I do best." He said, disappointedly, and shook his head.
"Come on. You can put butter in the popcorn." Elizabeth said, as the boy kept quiet.
"I just really wanna go home." Ethan said.
"Okay." She said, starting up the engine and drove back to their apartment.
After Johnny had a not so successful conversation with his son, he tried a different approach, which was to find Shannon and tell her about what's going on with Robby.
"Hey. Wow what a new surprise." She said, giving him a fake smile.
"I called you eight times. Then I just started circling around your usuals."
"What the hell are you doing here?"
"I should be asking you the same question. Shouldn't you be at our kid.... Instead of scamming for free money with this nerd?" Johnny asked, pointing over at the bartender.
"For the record, I actually only came here looking for a bartending position." She said, and looked offended by him.
"Did you know that our son is at your apartment skipping school and smoking with a bunch of dirtbags?" He asked.
"Well, that would be the first time ever you actually know where you son is, so congratulations." Shannon said, rolling her eyes.
"So, you're gonna let Robby drop out of school?"
"I can't make that kid do anything, anyone."
"He can stay with me, I have the space. I'll make him go." Johnny said, as she lightly chuckles in shock.
"Ok, uh, you'll take care of him with all of your amazing dad skills." She said, sarcastically.
"Yeah, at least I'm not giving up on him." He said.
"Eat shit, Johnny!" Shannon said, getting up in his face.
"You gave up on day one. Okay? I was the one that there for him when he got mono. I was the one that was there for him when he built his own half-pipe, and broke his wrist. Where the hell were you?"
"All right, well, I'm here now!"
"It's too late, Johnny."
"There are no do-overs." She said, walking away from him.
Johnny drove back to the apartment complex, walked towards Elizabeth's door, then began knocking on it. To where she opened it the door, and was surprised to see him standing there.
"Please don't close the door." He said.
"Look, I know I wasn't there him when it mattered. I let him down, and I guess I let you down too. And I know especially that there are no do-overs. But that kid, is the only person in the world who hasn't given up on me. And I don't wanna give up on him."
"I know I messed up big time. But you let him come back, I won't fail him."
And after a few seconds or more of them staring at one another, he spoke again.
"All right? Please, just think about it." He pleaded, walking away as she closed her front door.
The following day, Johnny was organizing around in the dojo unit all of a sudden the shop bell rang loudly.
He stepped out of the business room to notice it was Ethan, standing there behind the back mirror.
"My mom said I can train again."
"She did?"
"Yeah. I mean if we still have the dojo, of course." He said, as Johnny walked closer towards him.
"We do for now. But I need to know if you are ready to take things to the next level?" Johnny asked.
"Yes, Sensei."
"You got your ass kicked because you didn't have any defense, so I'm gonna teach you the best defense that you can know. And the best defense.... Is more offense." He said, holding both of his fists up.
