[SEASON THREE: EPISODE EIGHT]
[PART TWO]
The three LaRusso's arrived at the committee meeting to give their statement and wanted to know the real reason why they canceled the All Valley under-18 karate tournament.
Amanda looked her shoulder to notice Johnny sitting alone nearby. She tapped her husband's arm, getting his attention.
"What are you doing here?" Daniel asked.
"Fighting for the All Valley. What about you? Gonna read from your dairy?"
"There's nothing wrong with being prepared."
"Yeah, I don't need notes. I shoot from the hip."
"This is gonna be a disaster."
"Ok, next we will hear appeals for the cancellation of the All-Valley Under-18 Karate Tournament. Who would like to speak first?"
The two men made their way down to the podium but stopped because someone was already there.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I'm retired Army Captain John Kreese."
"Thank for your service." She replied.
"It was an honor to serve. And I continue to serve right here in our community, by teaching our children strength and discipline through karate. I was devastated to hear about the cancellation of the tournament, because of what happened at the high school. Why are my students being penalized because of the violence perpetrated by dojo's like.... Miyagi-Do?"
"Now, wait just one minute." Daniel interrupted.
"Mr. LaRusso, please. It's not your turn to speak."
"I apologize Counilwoman Roberts. But thisโ"
"Councilperson Roberts."
"Thank you, Captain Kreese. Please continue."
"I think my colleagues here would agree that all we want is the best for our students and our community. Cobra Kai's goal is to prepare the Valley's youth for the unfortunate realities of the real world. It's very hard out there. I'm simply just preparing them to defend themselves." The old man stated, putting on a fake smile.
"Councilperson Roberts, I'm sorry, but this is selling you a bad bill of goods. Just a few weeks ago, my students were injured by a bunch of his Cobra Kai's in an abandoned recreation facility."
"And who started that fight? If memory serves, your out-of-control daughter."
"Hey! You leave my daughter out of this, you piece of shit!" Amanda yelled.
"Ma'am, please restrain yourself." She said, as Johnny started laughing, watching the scene unfold.
"It's funny you say that because.... I've had to file a restraining order for physically assaulting me."
"Assault? Are you kidding me?"
"Maybe I should call the authorities?"
"That won't be necessary."
Amanda was now escorted out of the building, making Johnny chuckle even more.
"Councilperson Roberts, I assure you that I am a positive influence to my students and the hundreds of other students before them."
"Horseshit!" Sensei shouted, getting up from his seat.
"Your honor, John Lawrence, Eagle Fang Karate. This man has poisoned the minds of his students. And I should know, I was one of them."
"Were we competitive? Sure. But it was all for good sport."
"This man is thief and a liar!"
"And he put a live cobra in my dealership!"
"Sit down. All of you." Roberts ordered, banging her gavel. The three men sat down in the front, awkwardly sitting next to each other.
"It is clear that this karate tournament is causing division and rivalry in our community. You gentlemen.... Have made an excellent case today why this tournament should not continue."
"Now that clearly seems unfair." A male said, as everyone turned around to see Ethan, standing at the top of the stairs. Daniel and Johnny grinned in amazement. Williams made his way down the stairs and stopped in front of the podium.
"My name is Ethan Williams. I was in the school fight. I was the one who got kicked off the second floor. And, I thought I was gonna be paralyzed for the rest of my life. Then, I relearned how to walk. But, also relearned how to stand. I want the tournament to continue."
"We are very happy for your recovery, young man. But I'm afraid you don't underโ"
"Yes, he does." Sam said, getting up from her seat and joining him at the podium.
"We're the ones fighting, we're the ones getting hurt. Our voices should matter the most. And we want a place where we can compete, fairly and safely."
"When I was a little kid, I was bully all the time. Then, it took me awhile to realized that there's no escaping it." Ethan stated.
"And there's always going to be kid who wants to steal your lunch money, or give you a wedge, or even a swirle."
"What's a swirle?"
"It's, uh, when you dunk someone's head in a toilet and flush it around. Pretty funny actually."
"Sensei!" The boy whispered before taking a deep breath and turned back around to face the council.
"Instead of burying your heads in the dirty sand, and pretend that bullying doesn't exist or that you could just get rid of it. What you need to do is teach kids how to defend themselves."
"Physically and mentally. Because the scars you can't see are the ones that hurt the most." She added.
"Karate is all about discipline. It's about inner strength. It's about balance and confidence. These lessons you can use for the rest of your life. But I do know this, I don't know where I would be today or be the person I am today, if it wasn't for my teachers, both of them." Ethan said, pointing at Daniel and Johnny, who smiled happily.
"We don't need this stupid tournament to show off cool kicks or sell tickets. We need to show the bullies of the world to prove we're not afraid."
"It's called the All Valley because it's for everyone, it doesn't matter where you come from. And it's to give everyone the chance to prove what they can do, to fight to become a champion. And we deserve every bit of that chance."
The room fell silent as every committee member exchanged glances. Roberts looked at her colleagues, and they all nodded in agreement with the two teenagers.
"To be honest, I don't get why the Valley's fascination with karate. But if it means that much to all of you, and you're willing to sign waivers stating that the city is not liable, then the All Valley tournament is officially back on." She declared, banging her gavel.
Everyone clapped and cheered. Ethan wrapped his arms around Sam's waist, lifting her off the ground, spinning her around. They let of each other, as Daniel and Johnny stood next to them.
"I guess we all got what we wanted. But be careful what you wish for." Kresse stated, looking at the two men, before walking out.
Later in the day, at Miyagi-Do, Ethan and Sam were celebrating their victory after getting the All Valley tournament back on. They sat down on a platform, drinking some cans of Mountain Dew.
"To the All Valley tournament." She said, holding up her drink.
"Right, back at you."
"This place is exactly how I remembered it. But what's with the rock?"
"I don't know." The brunette shrugged her shoulders.
"My dad won't tell me. Or maybe he doesn't know."
"Well, I think it's a cool rock. All I have now is some vandalized park benches and regular boring rocks."
"You know you're more than welcome to come train here anytime. If you come back I'll be waiting." Sam said, leaning her head on his shoulder.
"Don't get me wrong, I wanna come back, believe me. I just don't know if I'm ready. Plus this is a very cool yard, do you actually do karate, here?"
"It looks like some breathing exercises!"
"Oh, that's not badass enough for you?" She questioned, with a raise eyebrow.
"I've trained in junkyards and cement trucks!"
"And I've trained in that pond, over there."
"Oh, a little pond. How lovely." Ethan said sarcastically.
"Not everything in Miyagi-Do is what it seems. And you know that." She said, as he laughed, and she playfully punched his shoulder.
"Okay! So, you're really challenging me to take on the champ?" He asked, and she stood up from the platform, walking up to him.
"I seem to remember the last time we had a sparring match, I won with surprisingly little effort."
"That is so not true. But, let's see you do it again. Don't hold back."
"I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just like old times." Sam said, getting in a fighting stance before throwing punches. He blocked them as she went behind his arm, switching places.
"Okay." The boy nodded, bringing his leg up, and she kicked it down.
The rest of the time, they threw punches as she blocked them, and he was about to threw another. She grabbed his arm, coming close to his face.
"Got you."
"Got you, now." Ethan smiled, and they stared into each other's eyes. Her eyes slowly shifting to his lips. It would've been a kiss, but suddenly someone appeared between the dual doors that was left open.
"I'm not even surprised to see you two."
"Robby!" Sam panicked, before turning around to look his way.
"It's not what you think."
"So, did you two get together while I was gone, or did you wait a week to make it look good?" Keene asked mockingly as he walked closer to them.
"There's nothing going on between us, Robby. You know that."
"Ethan."
"At least now I know why you stopped writing." Robby said, eyeing Williams in front of him.
"I stopped writing because you never answered."
"It's kinda hard to write back in between getting my face busted in!" He stated angrily, as Ethan threw his arm in front of Sam in a protective manor.
"I didn't know." The brunette said, softly.
"You wouldn't have cared even if you did."
"Don't you dare talk to her like that again." Ethan threatened.
"You stay out of this!"
"Like I will." He scoffed with narrow eyes. Robby gave him a harsh glare, stepping closer to him. Sam hurried over, and before anything could break out, she shove him back harshly, causing the boy stumble backwards.
"Robby, don't!" She yelled, standing up for her childhood best friend. He gave the pair a look of disbelief, glancing between them.
"You two deserved each other."
"Don't come crying to me, when he's used you like the rest of the Valley."
