[SEASON THREE: EPISODE THREE]
[PART TWO]
After leaving Bobby's church, Johnny returned to his apartment, where he quickly shaved off his beard.
He grabbed a cardboard box containing all of his 'rare' items, drove to a local pawn shop, hoping to help Elizabeth paid for Ethan's hospital surgery.
"Hey, look what the cat dragged in!"
"Oh, come on!" He groaned in disbelief as he walk up to the desk.
"Are you really trying to sell me that same box of crap?"
"I wasn't trying to sell it to you. That's why I drove to Winnetka."
"I have three locations." The man stated, holding up three of his fingers and pointing down at a chair connected to a desk.
"You'd be surprised how much coin you can make selling junkies their wedding rings back."
"How much for the computer?" He asked, pulling out a folded-up computer.
"What do I want with a used laptop?"
"You sold it to me used!"
"Yeah, well, now it's more used." The shop owner remarked.
"It's fine! Just needs new batteries. It ran outta juice."
"These don't run outta juice."
"Did you plug it in?"
"You said it was wireless."
"Yeah. Wireless as in...." Wyatt waved his around before stopping, realizing he didn't even a clue to what he was talking about.
"Never mind. Got anything else in there besides your useless crap?"
"This whole place is full of useless crap." Johnny exclaimed, pointing at the tech on the walls.
"What makes your crap better than my crap?"
"Simple. My crap has value. You want money, bring me something of value." The Shop owner explained.
"I got a '93 Dodge Caravan."
"Really? '93, you say?"
"Let's just...." He started, before turning around and grabbing a blue book from the shelf.
"Take a look at the Kelley Blue Book."
"All right. It's got a tape deck. Grayish cloth interior."
"Cloth interior?" Wyatt questioned, and the man standing before him, nodded his head.
"Yeah. That's interesting."
"What does it say?" Johnny asked.
"It says, 'Get the hell outta my shop'." The man stated, throwing the book down.
"It's worthless."
"Come on, man. What am I supposed to do? I don't own anything valuable." He said, putting the laptop back in the cardboard box.
"Then I guess you better find some who does."
Johnny started stacking objects, then turned back around with the box in his hands, exiting the building.
Meanwhile, Amanda and Louie were sitting down at a table, drinking wine in hopes of relieving their stress. Not a second later, Daniel came back from his lunch meeting with Anoush and noticed no one wasn't inside.
"Where is everyone?"
"Figured we'd close up early." He answered.
"Batten down the hatches until we straighten this whole thing out."
"How was your lunch with Anoush?" Amanda asked, as LaRusso grabbed the bottle, filling up a glass.
"Well, good news is he's speaking to me again. Bad news is.... He was telling Louie the truth."
"Cole leaned into the bad press on the school fight."
"He'll be exclusive with Doyona by the first of the month."
"If we lose this dealership, what's to stop other manufacturers from pulling out?" She asked, looking a little bit surprised.
"That's what Cole's banking on."
"See, I say we go visit Cole, and show him a little Jersey justice." Louie suggested, crossing his arms over his chest.
"What are you gonna do? Go round up your biker friends, get your asses kicked again?"
"I thought we weren't gonna talkโ" He started.
"Daniel, I don't think we have a choice. If we wanna come out of this with anything, we have to sell to Cole." Amanda pleaded. However, Daniel wasn't giving up any time soon. He got up from his seat, looking around at the cars in the dealership.
"When I was a kid, I wanted my own car so bad. My mom had this station wagon. It was such a piece of junk. We.... Literally had to push it to get the engine started." He explained to them.
"And then Mr. Miyagi gave me that '47 Ford, and.... That was the best day of my life. Ever since, I've been in love with cars."
"That's why Mr. Miyagi pushed me into sales. Wasn't my idea. I thought car salesmen were sleazy."
"That is such a bullshit stereotype."
"But Mr. Miyagi told me, 'Daniel-san.... must follow passion. Man who work for passion always richer than man who work for money." Daniel stated, as she mouthed the last few words.
"The goal was never to be the number one auto dealer in the Valley. I just wanted to give those customers that some sense of excitement I had when I got my first car." He said, walking back to the table, placing his hands down.
"That's what I did, and that's why we were successful."
"But, Daniel, without Doyona, we can't compete." Amanda said, shaking her head as stepped over next to him.
"I love what we built here. I love that we did it together. And I don't wanna lose it, but the writing's on the wall."
"If we don't sell to Cole.... We might end up with nothing."
"Louie, why don't we, um.... Go finish those inventories?" She asked. Louie nodded in agreement before stepping away giving Daniel some alone time to think things out.
He looked over to notice a Bonsai tree placed on a desk. Then, he slowly walked over to it, as Mr. Miyagi's words repeated throughout his mind.
"Close eye. Trust. Concentrate. Think only tree. Make a perfect picture down to last pine needle.
"Wipe your mind clean, everything but the tree. Nothing exists whole world. Only a tree. You got it?"
"Open eye."
Daniel opened his eyes, exhaling slowly, and nodded his head.
Robby walked through the door of the detention center and headed to his assigned bed. But when he got there, Shawn and his group of friends appeared right in the boy's bed.
"No shit."
"This your bed? I had no idea, I just needed a pillow." He said, taking the white pillow from the bed.
"You don't mind, do you?" The black-haired boy asked, but Keene didn't answer. Then he chuckled mockingly.
"Thought so."
"Soft-ass bitch." Shawn stated before walking away, with his friends trailing behind him. Robby made his way over to his bed, placing the towel down just as the guard appeared with a notebook in his hand.
"All right, listen up. Visitation tomorrow."
"Velasquez, Binder, Espinoza, Keene." He called out, as one of them looked surprised to see their name on the list.
"If I called your name, be ready first thing."
"Does it say who's visiting me?" Robby asked, stopping the officer from going any further.
"Lawrence, John." The officer answered, stepping out of the room.
Back with Johnny, unable to sell anything valuable, from his apartment, he decided to take a trip to a familiar location, leading him to a big white mansion belonging to his weird stepfather, Sid.
The guard walked him over to an office. Sensei sighed, thinking this was really his last shot of getting any money to help out Elizabeth.
"Well...." The old man stopped, looking at the magazine in his hands to notice a familiar face standing there.
"Well, well, well."
"Lookie who's back."
"I don't want to be here any longer than I have to." Johnny exclaimed.
"How's that karate thing going, huh?"
"Oh!" Sid mockingly gasped. "It didn't go under, did it?"
"I'm shocked!"
"This isn't about me. There's this kidโ"
"Yeah, I heard something about that. Your son and your student, talk about a role model." The old man said, eliciting an immediate clenching of Johnny's fist in anger.
"Oh. Hey, easy there, Rocko. Sounded like you were warming up to ask for a handout. But I hate to jeopardize...."
"Another paid day."
"All right, so you'll help me?"
"I didn't say that either." Sid stated and shook his head.
"Look, you can kick me around all you want, Sid. I'll take it. But, Ethan doesn't deserve what happened to him. I need to make it right."
"Yeah, with my money." The old man nodded, before pointing at himself.
"If I had anything to give, I would."
"You got nothing to give because you're a loser, like your father!"
"Yeah, you can say what you want about me, but at least I stuck around." Sid said, looking straight forward.
"Sticking around being a bully isn't better than leaving. I'm trying to do better. I'm gonna see Robby."
"Yeah." He said, sarcastically.
"I'm trying to scrape together what I can to help Ethan's family."
"Pope John Lawrence the first! Yeah, healer of children." The older man said applauding.
"Bravo, bravo, bravo!"
"All right, are you gonna help me or not?" Johnny questioned, leaning onto the chair in front of him.
"Cause I'd hate for that little incident with your secretary to get out to the public. You know, start one of those hash brown 'me too' things."
"I didn't get where I am because I cared about my reputation. Get the hell out of here."
"You a cold old man."
"And don't you forget it, buster." Sid retorted as Johnny stepped out of the office and headed to the front door. But just before leaving he noticed a sliver vise object, quickly grabbing it and walking out.
Later in the afternoon, Daniel and Amanda sat down at a table with a book between them, waiting for Cole and Anoush to arrive so they could talk business.
"Daniel, Amanda. Aw, I know this must be a tough pill to swallow."
"No matter how you wash it down, failure never tastes good. But at the end of the day, it's just business, right?"
"We looked at the offer in front of us, and realized there's only one choice." LaRusso nodded and passed the book down towards him.
"I want you to know that I'm gonna treat this place with the utmost respect. You can take the tiny bushes though. Nobody wants to care for a tree." Cole stated, scrolling throughout the pages.
"Oh, Faruosh, you are looking at the new owner of LaRusso Van Nuys."
"Mm. Not so fast, Tom." Amanda butted in the conversation.
"We made some adjustments. Look at page nine."
He turned to the next page, hoping to find something written, but as he looked down, he immediately noticed a big, drawn middle finger pointing at him.
"I don't understand. Are you selling me the dealership or not?"
"When hell freezes over." Daniel answered.
"Then let me give you the bad news. I signed an exclusive deal withโ" Tom stated.
"Doyona." He finished his sentence.
"Yeah. We know all about that."
"Oh, I forgot to tell you, Daniel offered me my job back. And since he knows my name and isn't a complete douche clown, I accepted."
"Fine. You wanna play the violin on the Titanic, it's your funeral." He said, before getting up from his chair and walked out of the building.
"We're not dead yet, Tommy." Daniel stated, as three of them stood up, proudly.
"We've still got some moves!"
"Well, there's no turning back now." Amanda added, then looked at her husband.
"This plan better work."
"It has to." He said.
"Wait, what? This isn't a sure thing?" Anoush asked, glancing between them.
The next morning, Johnny arrived at the hospital with all the money he could scrap up, hopping it would be enough to help paid for Ethan's surgery.
"Hey, uh, I'm not sure who I give this to." He said, holding up a envelope. The nurse, who was standing by the front desk, took it from him.
"It's for the Williams kid, to put toward his hospital bill."
"Wow. That's very generous." She said, opening it up.
"Can I tell the family who it's from?"
"Uh, I'd prefer to leave my name out of it if it's all the same."
"Sure, no problem." The nurse nodded. Johnny turned around and surprisingly enough, Elizabeth and her mother were standing there behind him.
"Hey. I'm leaving."
"Ms. Jones, Ethan's surgeon just arrived from the airport. She has a few questions." She said, stepping forward up to her.
"Thank you." Elizabeth nodded before walking up to the surgeon who was gonna preform on her son.
"I'm gonna get outta here." He said, start to walk, but Lois stopped him.
"Don't go, please."
"I have to be somewhere." Johnny said, and she grabbed his hand.
"My grandson.... He needs you. Please. Pray with us." She pleaded. He sighed, giving her a nod.
"Okay, I'll stay."
