ARABELLA WHITMORE: HER JOURNEY THROUGH THE WORLD OF LITERATURE AND FASHION

BY NATALIA MORRAINE
JULY 13, 2020

In the world of fashion and literature, there's one name that's been making headlines: Arabella Whitmore. You might know her by her last name or by her attractive articles in Harper's Bazaar, where she's a star writer.

Today, I had the privilege of sitting down with Arabella to dive into her journey and uncover the inspiration behind her incredible work.

One question that has piqued the curiosity of many is why Arabella chose to write about fashion instead of pursuing a career on the runway like her mother, the legendary supermodel Cynthia Whitmore. Let's find out the story behind this choice.

As the door swung open, Arabella Whitmore entered with a radiant smile plastered on her gave. Despite her role as the brains behind fashion rather than its front cover, her sense of style was nothing short of extraordinary.

Our greeting was filled with the usual pleasantries, and it quickly became evident that Arabella's humility was as remarkable as her fashion sense.

"Oh my goodness, hi. It's so nice to finally meet you." Arabella smiled at me.

"Trust me, it's the opposite." I replied to Arabella.

I began the interview with the question that has been on many minds.

Why did you choose to write about fashion instead of showcasing it like your mother?

This question seemed to pique Arabella's interest, and she leaned in, ready to share her story. "Fashion, to me, is not just about style; it's about the stories we tell through our style, the way we express ourselves without words. Writing allows me to dig deeper into these stories, to understand fashion beyond its surface."

Have you ever felt as if you were pressured to follow your mom's footsteps?

Arabella paused for a moment, her expression thoughtful. "I think there was definitely an expectation, at least from the outside world, for me to pursue a career in fashion," she began. "Growing up with a mother who was such a prominent figure in the industry, there was this assumption that I would naturally gravitate towards a similar path." She paused again before continuing. "Even with my father," she added, "There was a sense of expectation from him and the media, that I would follow in his footsteps in business. I will be forever grateful to have a father like him, but that's just not where I lay. I've always been drawn to writing and fashion. It's where I feel most myself, most authentic, as you say. So, while there may have been pressure, I just chose followed my heart and followed the path that felt right for me."

What inspired you to pursue a career in writing and fashion commentary?

Arabella smiled to herself, "I mean I've been surrounded by fashion all my self due to my mom being a model." She began, "But my love for writing started in eighth grade. So basically, there was this project where we had to write a short story with a partner. I wasn't too thrilled at first, since I was more of a science and math girl." She paused for a moment, scrunching her nose . "I was partnered up with this one boy, who by the way, was a full-on athlete—like basketball and football athlete," Arabella recounted with a chuckle. "He showed me all of his writings, and he convinced me to write with him. I honestly don't know why I gave in but I'm glad I did. So for the rest of the day we were in the library, and after that day I started writing about everything and anything."

Arabella's story piqued my curiosity, and I couldn't resist asking, "Are you still in contact with the person who got you into writing?"

"No," Arabella smiled.

How do you balance staying true to your own voice and style while also meeting the expectations of your audience?

"Honestly, I feel like no matter how hard you try, you can never meet the expectations of your audience." Arabella started, "For me, it's important to stay true to my own voice, as that's what sets my writing apart. But, I also try to be mindful of the readers interests. I try to find a middle ground where I can stay true to myself while also delivering content that resonates with my readers. It's all about balance."

"How about on social media?" I ask, knowing that she has a following on social media.

"On social media, it's different. Everyone has different opinions, and you can't please everyone," she explained. "I try to stay true to myself and my style, but I also understand that not everyone will agree with or appreciate my content."

I smile to myself, ❝You are such a positive person, how do you maintain this persona?

Arabella thanked me while chuckling lightly, "Well, sometimes it's not easy. Sometimes I want to lay in my bed all day and curse at everyone and everything who comes in my way—even my poor Lola." She scrunches up her nose as I laugh. "I try to maintain my positivity by surrounding myself with positive influences, like my friends and family. It can even be through the content I consume, the people I interact with, or the activities I engage in." She smiles. "Our hearts carry so much love that it's okay to give some to yourself whilst spreading some around."

Arabella Whitmore sure knows what she's talking about because as I hear her speak it's as if I'm talking to my therapist.

"I couldn't help but ask one more question, with the positive influences... who do you consider a positive influence in your life?"

Arabella's eyes lit up as I asked this question, "There are so many people who have had a positive impact on me," she began. "My mom and my dad, my brother, my friends, my boyfriend."

I wiggle my eyebrows at her as she mentioned her boyfriend. It's no secret that Arabella has been seeing someone. The someone in question being Noah Sumner, if you didn't recognize that name then you would probably recognize his fathers—Michael Sumner.

"And before this interview comes to an end, is there any advice you'd like to give to up-and-coming writers?"

Arabella nodded thoughtfully. "To all the up-and-coming writers out there, I would say: stay true to yourself and your voice. And please don't be afraid to explore new ideas." She said, likely speaking from experience. "Writing is like a journey of self-discovery, so embrace it fully, and most importantly, never give up on your dreams. It took a little while for me to fully dive in to my dreams, but if you put your mind to it you can do it."

"You're amazing." I spoke. "Thank you so much for your time. You truly are something else."  I said as I gave Arabella a warm hug.

Arabella reciprocated the hug but not without saying, "Thank you. This is seriously an amazing opportunity."

I watched as she walked out, flashing a bright and a wave before heading out.

Arabella Whitmore is truly a beacon of authenticity. Despite her prestigious background and family, she never fails to treat others with genuine kindness and respect. Her humility and down-to-earth nature make her stand out in any crowd.
