Hobie Brown

"I'll be in after I fill her up." I tell her while hopping out of the car towards the gas meter. I only needed a splash that was just enough to make sure we made it all the way to Washington without having to stop.

She nods while walking off towards the small gas station, leaving her phone in the car. I watched her toss her braids behind her shoulders, tucking a few braids before her ears. She casually walked into the store, disappearing from my sight as the bell chimed.

I turned towards the gas meter, gripping the pump and sticking it into the gas tank. I leaned against the side of the car with my back facing the highway, my senses were completely calm; the drive so far was something I needed.

We really were in the middle of nowhere, probably the only customers who had come through all day.
Seconds later I felt my senses start to pick up, but I pushed them to the side thinking it was just the nerves of being out here in the open with her. After reading over the files I was given, it made sense as to why I was so on edge. If she was the reason for everything occurring, then it only makes sense as to why I wanted to keep her safe.

Snapping me out of my thoughts, I felt my pants starting to vibrate in rhythm, making me fish my hands in my back pocket to retrieve my phone. I peered down and saw it was Opium, I had no idea why he was calling. He usually texted. I hit the green accept button and brought it up to my ear.

"Yo." I answered while turning to the meter and watched the number rise.

"Please fucking tell me you are not driving a gray convertible that just stopped at a gas station?" He asked immediately in a state of panic.

I looked down at the convertible and chuckled. "I mean it wasn't the car that i wanted, but it was the car left for me to drive, so yeah." I shrug.

"You need to fucking go!" He shouts, making me wince and pull the speaker away from my ear.

"Why? How do you even know where I am?" I furrowed my brows, it was too early for his little games.

"Because you got set up! They switched out the hotel employees after draining the original one of his blood. They put a tracker in your car!"

I froze in my stance, my senses really now picking up as I slowly turned my head to the open road, and right as I did I saw something I didn't want to see. A large black range rover was flying down the long empty road towards the empty gas station. They were a good distance away, but close enough that I had no time to act. Those cars meant nothing but bad news to me.

"Oh for fuck sakes." I murmur calmly under my breath. "They fucking found me."

"Get in the car and leave! I can see them gaining on you on the gps, you can still get away if you leave. Right. Now." He shouts in intensity but he didn't understand the position I put myself in right now.

I shoot out a web to fling myself onto the store roof, ducking behind the sign to make myself invisible to the road they were on. I push my sunglasses up to the top of my head, pinching the bridge of my nose in frustration.

"(Y/N) is in the store." I whispered back into the phone.

"You can't save her! You will get killed. I am tracking at least four people in that car!" He shouts back like I was about to make the stupidest decision of my life.

I look down over the edge of the roof, hoping to see her coming out but quickly understand I wasn't as lucky as I wanted to be today.

"I can't leave her here!" I spit between my clenched teeth.

"They barely know her face, they only know her name so they won't touch her. They won't risk ruining whatever it is that President Ozzy has in store for you!" He gets more angry with his words when he realizes I am not leaving her any time soon.

"How do you fucking know that? Because Miguel showed you some stupid universe where she isn't dead? They will kill anyone in their path to get to me, my dad hates me." I whisper shout in frustration.

Suddenly I hear the sound of the car rolling onto the gravel of the gas station. I stay hidden behind the sign on the roof, not knowing what to do yet.

"Hobie jus–"

"Too late, they're here." I hung up the phone.
The second I saw the front black bumper of the Range Rover, I flipped around and pressed my back up against the sign that shielded my body. I tucked my phone into my pocket, hiding.

I listened to their engine shutting down, my guess was they were parked in the front of the store and crowded around my car to block me off. I tried to wrap my brain around what to do, knowing I couldn't just leave (Y/N). I had to act fast, I was nervous she would walk around out the store and yell my name if she didn't see me in the spot she left me at.

I heard the doors open and slam shut, my spider senses tuning in on their hushed conversations. There was four of them, two walking inside the building and the other two staying out by my car.

"He's inside, the car is here." One of them said, a girl, Bora, said.

"Get him quick."

I heard the click of her heels walk across the gravel, soon to open the door so the bell chimes. I wait until I hear the door shut before acting on what to do next.

I had to get out of here, but I couldn't leave her in the store. If I was alone I would've already taken my sweet ass out of the parking lot of the gas station and booked it towards the highway towards the next city; but I wasn't alone. I had another piece of baggage with me. I had to get her out of the store too. The hard thing is, the two people guarding my car were armed with two large machetes with dried blood staining the metal blade. They also would grab her knowing the car is mine.

I stayed down in a squat position as I reached behind my back and slipped on my mask, the spikes still sharp after Rico filed them for me one day when she was bored. Turning my head around the corner of the sign, I watched as one of them turned their back to me and walked a distances away from his friend before the other was off in a daze thinking I would appear from the direction he was staring in.

Reaching my wrist out, I shot two webs out. One hitting him in the mouth so he would be quiet and the other to wrap around his waist and yank him up towards me. Grinning underneath my mask knowing it would transfer to the outside of it, I head butted him with the spikes striking him dead center knee between his eyes, pushing him off the edge of the building before turning back around.

One down, three more to go.

Jumping off the side of building after registering the other individual was long gone around the store, I slipped my mask back off and scurried towards my car down in a ducking stance. I reached behind the car to where the nozzle of the gas pump was and pulling it down to me. I reached over and clicked the dispenser of pump to release before it starts to pile all around me, pulling the hose farther away from my car than theres.

I shuffle over to the back of my car, peeking my head around to see just how far away their car really was. It wasn't that far, maybe a few meters away from mine, parking in the front of thr store entrance.

I looked in the store and saw how one of them had the older lady cowering in fear, one of the douchebags banging his fist on the counter. Probably demanding to know where I am at this moment. While they were doing that, despite my body wanting to turn around and rip their throats out for hurting the elderly lady behind the counter, I kept my crouched position and ran over to the giant vehicle, standing behind it with the gas pump in my hands. When the second guy came around, it didn't take long for me to shoot a web at his mouth and feet, making him topple over like a stupid little bobble head.

The Range Rover was tall, so it was easy for me to hide behind. I pressed the nozzle button and started pouring gas all around the tires of their car, making sure some of it got underneath as well.

After I finished spraying the gas around the back and right side of the car, I dropped the pump and made my way towards the side of the building, ducking below the windows. I ran alongside the side of the brick wall, opting out of using my webs so I wouldn't be spotted from a strange man swinging in the air without my mask on.

I ran up to the back of the door, opening it up silently to reveal another door before I did the same thing again, the room was a storage area of the building. My feet carried me as fast they could, I needed to get in the store, grab (Y/N) and leave. I didn't know how long it would take for them to realize my plan I did around their car.

As I reached the second room, I froze as I heard a bloodcurdling scream come from inside the store, my chest tightened as I let out a shaky breath, my spider senses ringing in my ears.

Please tell me that wasn't her.

I came around with my body still in a squatting stance, opening the door a bit more in hopes that scream wasn't from her, that they weren't as stupid as I knew they were to actually kill her knowing I was in the premises.

But there she was, shaking behind a shelf with the snacks in her hands peaking over to look at the front of the store. The scream must've been from the elderly lady, her vocal cords still as strong as when she was young.

I tried to get her attention in various of ways, waving my hands down below near my hips, rolling a can across the floor to hit the wall. But it only worked when she was looking back in front of her did her brown eyes finally find mine, expressing in silence that she was scared without having to utter a word.

I told her to close her eyes, but she declined, but I did it once more and she finally agreed. With everything going on I knew she wouldn't register that my website were wrapping around her body and pulling her into my arms. Her bright brown eyes went wide when she snapped them open, looking between both of my pupils, irises frantically trying to find something to ground her. Her pupils were dilated, signs of fright. Her mind must've been very erratic.

Right as she goes to squeal I cup her mouth with the palm of my hand, my own hand wrapped around her waist to hold her close to me as best as I could. Her hands flying up to my hand around her mouth.

I raised my finger up and pressed it against my lips, my forehead pressing against her own.

"Shh.." I whisper almost silently.

She shakes in my hold, her irises displaying how petrified she was in this moment. I could tell this moment was frightening her, she probably had so many thoughts run through her mind about her being next. She was gripping my hand with her nails digging into my skin, I could feel her breath rapidly gasping for my air against my hand. The other was tightly gripping my shirt.

I take one balled knuckle off of my shirt, holding her hand and pulling her out the back way I came from and into the open of the empty area. I kept her close to me, one hand on the small of her back while the other held her hand she so desperately needed right now.

We silently shuffled towards the entrance of the store, pushing her slightly to start running towards our car. The minute we get around to the front of the car, I push her down to squat as I do the same as I looked over the car to stare at the entrance of thr store.

She turns to me on shock. "What's goingβ€”"

"Shhβ€”not yet. Not now." I stop her from asking any questions, knowing I couldn't provide truthful answers at the moment. Not with my mind running at a hundred miles per hour. We were no where near close to being out of the clear.

I turned to face her, sucking in a deep breath before widening my eyes, but a small chuckle escaped my lips when I took the snacks out of her hands and placed them in the car over the top.

"Try to slip inside the car." I whisper.

"W-what about you?" She asks, holding onto my shirt as I shook my head.

"I need you to trust me, get into the car and speed off until you are out of the clearing. Don't worry about me, once I give you a call come back for me, okay?"

She hesitated for a moment, staring up at me before nodding her head. I opended the door on the passenger side of the door, letting her climb inside the car before shutting the door behind her.

"Keep your head low, I know yoβ€”"

"I know. I know." She murmured. Leaning the seat all the way back with her head just lightly lifted so she had a clear vision of the road, but not enough so if she hit something she'd be shit out of luck.Β

I watched as she turned the car on and hit the gas, speeding out of the gas station just in time for the two other men to come out. One pulled out a hand held gun, pointing it in the direction of the gun but she was far too fast for them to get a steady shot. They saw me though, immediately shooting at the Range Rover as I ducked behind the car to escape the ricocheting bullets that were hitting the car.

They took off running towards their car, but I was already one step ahead of them as I had previously shot a web right out in front of them, connecting from one pump to another causing them to trip over and topple near their car with a confused look written on their faces. The stickiness of the fuel and their heads hitting one another made them take longer to get up.

"What thβ€”"

I chose to keep my mask off knowing they wouldn't live to see the next day.

"It's you-" One of them yelled at, going to grab their guns but fell back when I snatched it back into my hand with my webs.

I dug into my pants for the lighter and started to play with the flame, flickering the flame before grinning to myself. "Nah, I'm not in the mood for this shit right now." I circled around the gas pumps towards them, jumping ontop of the pumps right above the puddle of fuel that was spilled almost perfectly around the car and them, their actions towards me and their whereabouts not focused that they were covered in fuel from falling over.

I knew once I dropped the lighter I could get out of there fast enough, shooting webs towards the sign if that mean I could be alive, but them? I couldn't care leas about.

I pulled my phone out, texting her to come back around and to be fast before I snapped my eyes down to the two men who were frozen in place on what to do now that they knew I was Spider-Punk. They came searching for Hobie Brown, not Spider-Punk. Jumping off and circling once more, I backed away towards the front of the store once more till I was far enough away to flick the flame of the lighter dead center into the messy pile of fuel.

It didn't take long for the area to catch on fire, jumping up onto the roof to back away from the screaming two men who were caught off guard, too amazed that they caught someone who was blacklisted and on the top of President Ozzy's list to 'kill on sight' for.

"You made a hugeβ€”mistake!" One of them screamed, grabbing at their skin as they caught on fire. No matter where they went, fuel was collecting around them and the fire grew and grew, all in the right places too. "He's going toβ€”"

"Come on.." I mumbled to myself, drowning out their words as I hid behind the sign so incase something fell and shot in my direction I would be protected at least.

I could see the car creeping around the side of the highway before it came to a standstill, possible because she saw the fire and assumed I died. If I was her, I would've left me to die too, but she stayed put and she didn't bother getting out either. Not when the car exploded just on cue, making me flinch.

It was dead silent for a moment with no more screaming in pain, only the crackling of the flames and explosions were surrounding the area before I turned back around with my back up against the sign to catch my breath.

"Hobie?!"

I paused.

"Hobie?!"

The sweet sound of that worrying voice made me turn back around hastily, her back to me as she cupped her hands around her mouth to call out for me. The car parked near the highway with the door swung wide open, flashing hazards on. I could hear the worry and shakiness of her tone when she called my name looking for me, her already trembling body from the experience she had.

I jumped down quietly on my feet, sneaking up on her with a tal on her shoulder. She turned around fast, eyes widen and cheeks stained with tears. "Oh, Hobie! I thoughtβ€”" She looked back at the fire before looking at me, lip quivering.

I could understand human behavior, but was shit at understanding human emotions.

She tensed up before falling into my arms, shaking. I didn't know what to do or say, all I could do was direct the both of us towards the car while holding her head on my chest and the other around her waist. Opening the passenger side door, closing it for her and then moving to the other side to slip in the already open door and grip at the steering wheel without moving. I glanced over her head to the crime scene per say, then glancing back at the open road until I put the car into drive and turned us around to continue on our journey. My eyes flickered back and forth between her and the road, my sunglasses back on my face until I turned the radio on out of awkwardness,

"Coming up next on 92.1 The Beat. Not You Too Featuring Chris Brown."
