ch. 18

the battlefield will shine and burn

You stand as the army of the dwarves come. You growl and start to get invisible. It wouldn't be good if Dain would see you. You stand still as the armies of the men and elves walk forward to greet the new army. "Who is that? He doesn't look pleased." You hear Bilbo ask Gandalf. "It is Dain, lord of the Iron Hills - Thorin's cousin." The wizard answers. You growl and creep closer, but when you reach them, you shift to a human and teleport beside Gandalf and Bilbo.

"Are they alike?" You hear Bilbo ask as you walk along with them. "I always found Thorin the more reasonable of the two." You say, having met Dain before. The two armies halt a short distance from one another, and Dain rides his pig onto a rocky overlook to address the Elves and Men. "Good morning! How are we all? If you wouldn't mind giving me a few moments of your time, I have a wee proposition. Would you consider," the dwarf paused before yelling, "just sodding off!"

You toll your eyes. He's always been the dramatic one. The townspeople, clutching their weapons, step back in fear while the Elves pull out their swords and step forward. "All of you - right now!" Dain calls again, and the townspeople move again, but Bard calls out to them, "Stand fest!"
Gandalf nudge you gently, and you get his meaning, and together you strode forward with them.

"Come now, Lord Dain!" He says, and Dain's eyes fall on the two of you. He doesn't seem yo happy bout it. "Gandalf the Grey. Tell this rabble to leave, or I'll water the ground with their blood!" He says. You sigh and speak up. "There is no need for war between dwarves, men, and elves! A legion of orcs march on the mountain. Stand your army down!" You say, and Dain looks at you for a moment before his eyes widen. "who are you?! anyway, I will not stand down before any elf! Not least this faithless woodland sprite!" He says and gestures to Thranduil.

you sigh, knowing it's pointless to argue with him. "He wishes nothing but ill upon my people! If he chooses to stand between me and my kin - I'll split his pretty head open! See if he's still smirking then!" the angry dwarf ads, and you roll your eyes. "hold your tongue, Mellon nin. You're maybe a lord, but he's a king. So leave the feud alone and work together. the orcs won't be judging good for evil.-" But whatever you say, the dwarf lord won't listen. So why do you even bother? with an extranet sigh, you hear Thranduil say something as he's been quiet this whole time. "He's mad, like his cousin!" you chuckle but look away so none can see you do that. "You hear that, lads?!" Dain bellows to his dwarves and rides back to rejoin them. You let weapons appear in your hands.

two swords and a bow on your back. "Come on! Let's give this ***** a good hammering!" Dain yells as he rejoins the army of dwarves. A dwarf yells out a command, and the Iron Hills dwarves raise their weapons and cheer. The Elves perform a complicated maneuver to put their shield-and-spear bearers at the front of the army while the arches stand behind them. As both troops prepare to fight, a rumbling is heard at the base of a spur of the mountain. The armies grow silent as they turn to look. Gandalf whispers to himself. "Were-worms!" you clutch your weapons and let out a growl. At the spur of the mountain where the rumbling is coming from, massive worms, hundreds of feet long and dozens of feet thick, break through the rocks. Their mouths are essentially giant drilling machines, strong enough to crush the most brutal rocks in their jaws. The human, Elf, and dwarf armies look on in shock.

You too have a shock on your face, and your fangs grow as well as horns and claws. 'it wouldn't be good shifting now,' you think and try to delay the shifting. but it will come anyway how hard you try. "Oh, come on!" Dain exclaims. The worms suddenly retreat into the tunnels they'd made through the mountains approaching the Lonely Mountain. As the mist clears, we see Azog and a few other Orcs standing atop a hill. Behind them are several massive contraptions made of wood, rope, and cloth, meant as signaling devices. He speaks to them in the black speech, which you can't understand, and he gives a sign. As he does, one of the wooden structs moves to a certain angle, and a horn sounds. Immediately, legions of Orcs begin pouring out of the were-worm tunnels.

Dain yells as he rides against the orcs. "The hordes of hell are upon us! To battle! To battle, sons of Durin!" in the mountain, Fili talks to his friends. "I'm going over the wall! Who's coming with me?" a few of the dwarves cheer and agree with him. but as they are bout to go down, throin says, "Stand down!" the dwarves get confused, and Fili says, "Are we to do nothing?" throin gets angry and snarls, "I said, STAND DOWN!" he then turns and goes away. "The elves, will they not fight?" Bilbo says as you bend and notice that the elves haven't moved a bit. you roll your eyes as Gandalf yells to Thranduil. "Thranduil! This is madness!"

The battle started, and you were everywhere. You were helping the men, the elves, and the dwarves. You were in the city, on the battlefield. Luckily your arrows never ran out because you put some spell on them. Right now, you were with Thranduil, and you jumped away when his elk suddenly collapsed to the ground, causing Thranduil to fall off.; for a second, you thought he was going to be killed, but then you saw how he landed and knew he could mange himself. So you hurried off somewhere else and killed orcs, helping those who needed it. And the whole time, you felt tingling in your body, which meant your dragon was trying to take control, but you held her in. why? Cause your fire would be so wild when you were angry and fighting that it could hurt those you didn't want to.

Sooner than you thought did you reach Legolas. he was shooting arrows at some bats who were flying overhead. "hello, Legolas," you said. The prince looked around until his eyes met yours, and he widened his eyes. "how.." was all he said, and you chuckled. Then, you gestured to your wings which were beating steadily, holding you up. they were feathered and coal black. "I'm gonna help you out here," you said and turned to a black wolf with wings, your hybrid form. And once, you attacked the bats, snapping their necks and breaking their branches. Legolas stood a while and watched you until he continued shooting arrows.

Suddenly you heard a familiar scream. Tauriel. You growled and snapped the last bat's neck and dived towards tauriel, who was lying at some stairs, straining in pain. You saw Bolg, a spawn of Azog, stroll up to her with a club raised. You snarled and caught him with your paws, claws digging into his skin. He screeched and tossed around in your grip until you dropped him on some stairs who collapsed under his weight. Legolas had gotten to tauriel, who was standing now. You hovered over them for a while before you saw thorin and Azog facing one another. Tight anger bloomed in your chest, and you dived once again. When you reached, it was already too late.

Azog got impaled and died. You landed and ran to thorin. "thorin!" you called and hurried over to him, draping your wing cover him, letting him lean on you. You led him away from Azog's corpse and to the edge of the Glacier. "the eagles are coming," you said softly as one swooped over your head. Thorin relaxed in your touch, and you let him sit down. "don't worry, thorin, I'm gonna heal you," you said. Soon Bilbo came running over, looking battered. "is he gonna be okay?" he asked you, and you turned your eyes to him. "he will, I promise," you said and gave him a small smile.

After that, you turned back to thorin and closed your eyes, and muttered an old healing spell your mother taught you.
