Chapter 5. An Invitation

✧・゚: *✧・゚:* *:・゚✧*:・゚✧

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐎𝐅𝐓 𝐓𝐔𝐍𝐄 of Joni Mitchell's A Case of You played as Ava sat at the kitchen table working on her English homework, while Freya stood at the stove making dinner. "How was it, meeting Bobby's friends?" Freya asked as she put the lid over the skillet for the dinner to simmer

Ava smiled as she sipped her cherry water, then set her glass down, and turned around to face her aunt. "It went better than I thought it would. I sat with them at lunch today, and I guess I misjudged them all."

Freya poured herself a glass of wine, then joined her niece at the table. "That happens sometimes sweetpea, I assume they treated you with respect?"

"Yeah, they were all great. There's one, Dutch, he's really funny, in a doesn't think before he speaks kind of way. He has bleached blonde hair. I've never seen that before, except on Billy Idol." Ava said. "Also, he falls asleep in English class eight seconds after the bell rings."

Freya shook her head and chuckled. "Your uncle Elijah will never admit to it, but he did the same thing in high school, Mrs. Waterson was our history teacher, and he hated the class."

"Do I even want to know?" Ava chuckled.

Freya chuckled as she shook her head. "Probably not."

As Ava finished her homework, and Freya stood up to finish dinner, the phone rang. "Hello?" Freya answered

"Hi Freya, it's Bobby. Is Ava there?" Bobby asked on the other line, trying to keep his voice from cracking from complete nervousness

Freya smiled as she set her wine glass down. "Oh, hello Bobby. Yes she is, hold on one second." she said as she pulled the phone away from her ear and covered the mouthpiece with her hand, "Ava, it's for you."

Ava stood up, and walked to the living room, and sat on the couch, picked up the reciever, and answered the phone. "Hello?"

"Hey." Bobby smiled

Ava smiled as she ran a hand through her brunette hair. "Hey you. How was karate practice?"

"It was brutal, sensei's really coming down on us, pretty hard. Especially Johnny, since he won last year, he's expecting him to win this year." Bobby said

Ava just shook her head. "No, I think it's someone else's turn to win." she smiled

"Yeah, probably Tommy or Dutch." Bobby said.

"Actually, I was talking about you." Ava chuckled. "You obviously have it in you, and you're committed to it, so why not?"

"No, Johnny's his best student. I'm his second best." Bobby said

"Well, it doesn't matter who's the best, or who's second best, but what do I know, I'm not a karate person, or whatever you call it." Ava laughed. "I'm just here to listen and make you feel better."

"Well, I'm glad I have you now. I'm glad we found our way back to each other." Bobby smiled

"Yeah, me too." Ava smiled, then became teary eyed, and sighed before she continued. "I'm just sorry I was so mean to you."

"Ava, I understand. I hurt you, and I hurt you bad. I know you said you forgave me, but I'll never be able to forgive myself. Never. The only thing I can do is try to make it up to you." Bobby smiled

"I know and I understand everything now." Ava smiled. "Again, thank you for the flowers, after mom and dad... well, you know. I still have all the birthday cards you left for me in my locker over the years, and the bracelet you left for me one year."

"You knew those were from me?" Bobby asked

Ava smiled then twirled the cord around her fingers. "Yeah, I knew your hand writing anywhere."

Bobby smiled as he wiped away his tears, and Ava heard him sniffle over the phone, and she couldn't stop her own tears forming in her beautiful violet eyes. "I was always so afraid you would throw those cards away, or worse, throw the bracelet in the trash or give it to someone else, because you were so mad at me."

Ava allowed her tears to fall. "Bobby, no matter how hurt, or angry I was, I would have never done that. That's cruel, and it's tacky. I have kept them all as a keepsake, and now that we're friends again, I will wear the bracelet."

"Ava, dinner's ready dear!" Freya called from the kitchen

"Well, I gotta go, but I'll see you at school tomorrow, okay?" Ava smiled. "Give my best to Nettie and give her a big hug from me."

"All right beautiful, I will, I'll see you in the morning. You want me to pick you up?" Bobby asked

"Thanks for the offer, but I think I'll drive tomorrow." Ava smiled. "Goodnight."

"Goodnight, Ava." Bobby smiled

Ava pulled into the parking lot and parked her impala as Ratt's Round and Round played on the radio. As she parked in her assigned parking spot, she saw Bobby and the Cobra Kais by their bikes laughing.

After turning off the ignition, she checked her mascara, grabbed her book bag from the passenger seat, and then she got out of the car, locking it along the way. She put her keys in her pocket, her book bag over her shoulder and instead of walking towards the building, she walked towards Bobby and the Cobras.

"Morning boys." Ava smiled

Bobby turned around, and his face immediately lit up, as he pulled her into an embrace. "Hey beautiful." he smiled as he tightly embraced her.

"Hey Ava, remember when I said I was going to make you that badass, mixtape?" Dutch asked as he unzipped his backpack

Ava pulled away from Bobby's embrace, but stood beside him. "Yes."

"Here you go." Dutch said.

Ava smiled, as she graciously accepted the mixtape. "Thank you, that was sweet. I'll make a mixtape for you guys as well, in fact, I think I might have some in my basket in my room." she said as she put the mixtape in her backpack

"Should we be nervous about the mixtape you make for us?" Tommy asked as they walked towards the building

Ava shook her head. "No, they have good ones. Mötley Crüe, Speedwagon, y'know, that sort of thing." she said as she stepped up on the curb.

"Never took you for a girl who liked rock." Jimmy said

"There's a lot you don't know about me." Ava smiled. "Anyway, I'm gonna go find the girls. I'll see you guys in first period." she said as she gave them a quick embrace, then saved Bobby for last, as his embrace was the longest

"See you then, beautiful." Bobby whispered into her hair, sending shivers down her spine.

Ava smiled and waved, as she walked to Ali, Susan, and Barbara, who were waiting for her by her locker. Bobby smiled as he watched her greet her best friends with a smile and a warm embrace. This girl was going to be the death of him.

"Hello, earth to Bobby." Dutch said as he snapped his fingers in front of Bobby's face

Bobby rolled his eyes as he moved Dutch's hand away. "What man?"

"Seriously man, quit staring like a creep, and go over there and ask her out." Tommy said

"No, I just got my friend back. I don't want to make it weird." Bobby said

"What's weird is you staring like a creep. Trust us, you won't make it weird." Johnny reassured. "You're having issues in your foreign language class right?" he asked

Bobby furrowed his brows at his best friend. Where was he going with this? "No."

"Why don't you just lie and say you're not doing so well?" Dutch suggested. "That will give you two time to spend together when you ask her to help you."

Bobby had to admit, even though Dutch could sometimes have stupid ideas, this one might be one of his good ones. "You know something Dutch, this might be one of your better ideas." Bobby said

Dutch placed a hand over his chest, acting offended. "Please... they don't call me Dr. Love for nothing."

Jimmy interjected, "They don't call you that, you call yourself that."

"Dutch is right, man." Tommy said as he turned to Bobby. "Go over there, or we're dragging you over there ourselves."

Bobby gathered every bit of courage he possessed and walked towards the brunette he loved, who was laughing with her best friends. When he reached her locker, her friends were the first to see him

Ali nudged her arm. "Ava, someone wants you."

Ava, who was standing next to Ali, turned her head, and smiled brightly at Bobby. "Oh, hi Bobby." she smiled

Bobby smiled nervously, as he ran his hand across the back of his neck. "I was wondering if I could talk to you? Alone?"

"Oh, sure." Ava smiled.

"I'll see you in English." Ali smiled as she embraced her best friend

"See you." Barbara smiled

"Get it girl." Susan quietly mumbled as she nudged Ava's shoulder and walked away with Barbara

Ava shook her head and chuckled. "What's up, Bobby?"

"So, I'm kind of having trouble in French class, and I was wondering if you would help me out after school? If you're busy, I completely understand." Bobby said.

That's odd. He always answers the questions and gets an A on every test. But, Ava decided to go along with it. She smiled as she placed a hand on her friend's shoulder. "You know I don't mind helping you at all. Your place or mine?"

"Mine? It will give grandma a chance to see you." Bobby suggested

"Alright, that sounds great to me." Ava smiled as they walked to English class

"Yeah." Bobby smiled. "Thanks Ava, I really appreciate it."

"You know I'll help you out in anyway I can." Ava smiled as they walked into English, with bright smiles on their faces

"I'll see you after class." Bobby smiled

"See you." Ava smiled, then took her seat next to Ali. The blonde turned in her seat and had her arms folded over her chest, with a smirk on her face. "Yes, Ali, can I help you?"

"What's got you so happy? Did you find out that Joni Mitchell won a Grammy or something?" Ali asked as she opened her notebook to begin taking notes.

Ava smiled as she opened her notebook and began taking notes. "No, but that would be amazing if she won a Grammy, however, I'm tutoring Bobby after school."

Ali smiled brightly in reply. "Hey, I'm happy for you. So, where are you going to tutor him?"

"His place. I haven't seen Nettie in so long, and I would love to see her again." Ava smiled

"This is a step in the direction for you both." Ali smiled

Before Ava could even respond, they heard a head fall on the desk, and loud snoring come from the back. "I swear, I have never seen anyone fall asleep as fast as Dutch does." Ava said as she turned back around in her seat

At the end of the day, Ava, Ali, Susan, and Barbara were walking down the hall. "I'll tell you girls everything he said." Barbara smiled.

"Yeah, you better." Ali smiled, as she, Ava, and Susan bid her goodbye

"Bye." Barbara smiled

"Bye." Ava smiled

Ava, Ali, and Susan continued walking down the hall, until Ali felt someone tap her on the shoulder. The blonde turned to see Daniel and her features brightened, and Ava smiled at him as well.

"Hey." Daniel smiled

"Hi." Ali smiled brightly

"How ya doin'?" Daniel asked, then waved to the beautiful brunette. "Hey Ava."

"Hi Daniel, how's it going?" Ava smiled sweetly

"Oh, what happened to your forehead?" Ali asked in concern

"Oh, it was terrible, it was this gigantic runaway zit." Daniel joked, and Ali and Ava looked at each other and laughed.

Susan scrunched her nose in disgust. "That's gross." Ava rolled her eyes at her friend. She swore Susan could never take a joke, well, from someone from Reseda that is.

"Daniel, this is Susan." Ali said, introducing them in between laughs

"Hi." Daniel smiled as he waved to Susan

"Charmed." Susan said sarcastically, and Ava rolled her eyes.

"No, come on, what really happened?" Ali asked

"I got in a bike accident, but I'm okay." Daniel said, and Ali and Ava gave him a look of concern

"You sure?" Ali asked, and Daniel nodded

"What kind of bike do you have Daniel? A Honda? Suzuki? What?" Susan asked

"Uh, no, it's a Miyagi turbo, actually." Daniel said

"Really?" Ava smiled sweetly

"Yeah?" Ali smiled as the group turned the corner

"Oh, really?" Susan sarcastically asked

"Well, we're going to the arcade, you wanna come?" Ali invited

"Yeah sure, sounds great to me." Daniel smiled and Ava herself smiled at the interaction between him and her best friend.

Ali smiled brightly. "Good, they've got this new game I wanna show you."

Daniel stopped in his tracks staring at the Cobra Kais, who were surrounding Johnny's bike. "Daniel, are you alright?" Ava asked

"Oh yeah, it's just uh, listen I just remembered I forgot something, so I'll catch up with you guys later." Daniel nervously said

"Daniel, you don't have to run a way." Ali said as Daniel turned to walk away

"I'm not running away from anything." Daniel said

"Hey, look we've got to deal with this." Ali said

"You deal with things your way, I'll deal with them mine, okay? I'll see you. I got to go." Daniel said, as he turned to walk away again

"Daniel..." Ali said

"Get off my case!" Daniel said

Ali turned to her best friend and Susan who just shrugged their shoulders, then continued walking down the hallway. "Well, I guess I'll see you two later." Ava smiled as she reached her locker

"You sure you don't want us to wait?" Ali asked

"I'm sure. You girls go ahead." Ava smiled

Ali embraced her best friend, who returned the embrace. "Call me." the blonde smiled. "I will." Ava smiled as she pulled away from the embrace

"Bye!" Ali and Susan smiled as they walked down the hall

Ava placed her French text book and her notebook in her backpack, when she felt a presence next to her. "Hey beautiful."

Turning her head, Ava smiled as she zipped up her backpack. "Hey Bobby."

"So are we still on for this afternoon?" Bobby asked

Ava smiled and nodded. "Unless plans have changed on your end, yes, I'm still coming by to help you." she said as she closed her locker, then the two walked to the parking lot. "I do have to ask you something."

"Anything." Bobby said

"Please don't get upset when I ask you, but do you know anything about the scuff marks on Daniel's face?" Ava questioned, then unlocked the door to her impala

"Ava, it was only a joke." Bobby said as they reached the parking lot and stood by her impala.

"Bobby, what did you guys do to him?" Ava asked as she turned around to face him

"He came into the dojo wanting to sign up for classes. Johnny thought it would be funny to mess with him. I didn't want to do it, but then I thought about all the times I saw LaRusso around you." Bobby said

Ava sighed as she set her backpack in the front seat, then turned to face her friend. "Bobby, I'm not going to let this one trivial thing mess up our friendship, but please understand, Daniel walking in to the Cobra Kai dojo is no reason to run him off a hill. You're lucky it was just scuff marks on his face. It could have been much worse."

"I know. I'm sorry." Bobby said

"Well, please, just leave him alone. Please be rest assured, Daniel and I are friends. He's interested in Ali. I'm kind of hoping they get together soon, because they'd make a great couple." Ava smiled. "Anyway, I'll see you soon."

"See you soon."
