Chapter 21. Prom 1985

✧・゚: *✧・゚:* *:・゚✧*:・゚✧

𝐈𝐓'𝐒 prom night for the students of West Valley High School. Some couples have broken up but are going to prom anyway, some couples' relationships are on the rocks but are going to prom anyway.

Since it was also spring, Ava, Ali, and Bobby also received their acceptance letters to UCLA and were accepted.

Nettie, Freya, and Rebecca took Ava to Wild Orchid Salon, a reputable hair salon in the Encino area. While Ava had a fishtail braided low bun, a few strands that hung loose around her face, and those pieces were loosely curled, Freya and Rebecca got their highlights touched up, while Nettie got her signature auburn color added to her hair.

"So tell us about the romantic proposal from this handsome man of your's." the hairstylist named Janette said as she worked on Ava's hair. "From what we have heard from your aunts, he's a real sweetheart."

Ava softly chuckled as she sipped her strawberry infused water. "Well, let's start from the very beginning shall we? After my parents and I moved here from England, Bobby was my first friend, and we were inseparable. Then came our freshman year. Life happened and got in the way, but we found our way back to one another and started dating. We spent our spring break in New York where he proposed."

"If you ask me, I think it's the sweetest thing." Rebecca smiled as a hairstylist added highlights to her blonde hair

"I know I made the right decision by saying yes, but people are going to say we're too young." Ava said.

"Sweetheart, you can't listen to what people say. My Jody proposed to me in high school as well. We were told we were never make it, 40 years and two beautiful children I wouldn't change a thing." Janette smiled as she added hair spray go Ava's hair. "I love him with all my heart and soul." Janette said

Nettie, who sat next to Ava, smiled as she spoke. "Love. That's a very important factor in any marriage darling. I can tell you about love." As Nettie began to tell her story, the women in the salon, listened, including Ava. "Raymond... that's my husband's name. We had a love so strong, that it just seemed like we were one. I would get ready to tell him something, and he would open his mouth and say the very thing I was about to tell him."

Ava gave a watery smile as the older woman told her story. It reminded her so much of Klaus and Diana. She had heard Bobby speak of his grandfather before, but he had passed away when Bobby was younger, so he didn't really remember him.

"Do you ladies have any idea how frustrating that was sometimes? Oh I couldn't stand it. Then my favorite moments were those times when I would just lay my head on his chest, just to listen to his heartbeat. And then one night, I realized that his heartbeat, matched mine." Nettie smiled, then it quickly faded. "Rhythm's off now that he's gone."

Ava reached over and laced her hand with Nettie's. "I'm so sorry, Nettie. I know you loved him with all of your heart and soul."

Nettie gave Ava a heartwarming smile, as she replied, "Don't you fret for me my darling. I have had the opportunity that few people ever get on this earth. God blessed me to share time and space with a man that he designed himself just for me. I've not only been blessed, I have been divinely favored. My darlings, love is many things. It's varied. One thing it is not, and can and never will be, is unsure." Nettie said

After the hair stylists were paid and tipped, Ava met Ali at the nail salon for mani-pedis. Ali chose a light pink color, while Ava chose a red color

"How are you and Daniel?" Ava asked as the nail tech worked on her nails. "What's going on?"

"Honestly, I don't know." Ali said as the nail tech worked on her nails. "It's like he's been so different since the tournament."

"Maybe this is just a bump in the road for you guys. I'm sure everything will be okay." Ava said

"Maybe." Ali said

After their mani-pedis, the two best friends went to lunch, then Ava took Ali home. After dropping her best friend off, Ava pulled into her drive way, parked her impala, and walked inside.

Ava walked into the bathroom to begin her makeup, as she settled on a subtle eye looks blush and mascara. After putting her things away in the drawer, she heard the front door open. "Ava?" Bobby called

Ava walked out of the bathroom and into the living room and greeted her fiancé with a kiss and an embrace. "Hi honey."

Bobby gave her a look full of adoration and love. "You look gorgeous babe."

"Thank you." Ava smiled. "By the way, how was suit shopping with uncle Elijah? Did you find anything?"

Bobby smiled and nodded in reply. "I remember you said your dress was gray, so I chose a gray vest, so it would match the dress. That is what you go with right?" he asked

"Of course sweetheart." Ava smiled.

In the bedroom, the couple dressed for prom. Ava's dress was a sleeveless gray faux wrap dress made of silk, and decorated with seed beads throughout the garment. Stitched to the waist was a purple silk sash belt. It was short in the front and long in the back.

"You look beautiful, Ava." Bobby smiled

Ava turned around to find him wearing his suit and to her, he looked so steamy and dreamy. His suit was black, but his vest was gray, to match her dress. His hair was combed neatly and he smelt amazing. Her guy truly fills out a suit well.

Ava smiled as she wrapped her arms around his neck. "Thank you sweetheart, you look damn good in your suit." she said as she kissed his chin.

Bobby smiled as he wrapped his arms around her waist. "Before I forget." he said as he pulled out the corsage which was a pink English Rose, and slipped it on Ava's dainty wrist

"It's beautiful Bobby." Ava smiled, then placed on the English Rose boutonnière on his suit. "Are you ready?"

Bobby smiled as he led her out the door. Outside, he grabbed her wrist and dipped her for a kiss. He's never done that before, but like how it looked in the movies. Ava was flushed, but she liked it and she liked it a lot.

"Whoa. That was hot, and I thought I saw all your best moves all the times we've had sex." Ava said

"You ain't seen nothing yet sweetheart. Just wait till tonight after prom. I got some more moves to show you." Bobby said, giving her a saucy wink.

This made Ava blush from head to toe. "I'm looking forward to it." Ava said as she gave him a wink. "We better go, before I change my mind, and decide to skip prom."

The prom was in full swing when the couple arrived, fashionably late of course. As Bobby stood talking with the guys, Ava stood with Ali, who was visblibly upset when she and Daniel entered the gym.

"Ali, what happened?" Ava asked

Before anything else could be said, Ava felt a tap on her shoulder. Turning around, she saw Bobby standing next to her. "May I have this dance?" Bobby asked with his hand held out as Cyndi Lauper's Time After Time began to play.

Ava turned to Ali, who smiled at her. "Go ahead. we'll talk later." the blonde smiled as she embraced her best friend

"Of course." Ava smiled as she walked with Bobby to the dance floor.

Across the room, Susan and Tommy were dancing, Jimmy and Barbara were dancing, Dutch and a girl from the swim team were dancing, and Johnny and a girl from the cheer team were dancing.

"You look so beautiful tonight, Ava." Bobby smiled as he rested his forehead against Ava's

"Thank you sweetheart. You're the most handsome guy here." Ava smiled. "In fact, you're the only handsome guy here."

"Well, you're the only beautiful girl here." Bobby said, as he pressed a kiss onto her forehead. "I love you."

"I love you more." Ava smiled

As the night wore on, the Prom King and Queen were announced. The Queen was a girl named Tina, who is friends with Ava and Ali, a straight A-student, and a real sweetheart, and the King was a guy named Randall. As they began to dance, Ava couldn't help but notice a spark that flew between the two. Ava leaned into Bobby and watched as the prom King and Queen danced.

"You know, you're my Queen. I'm loyal to only you. I love you and wherever you go I'll go. I'll honor, respect you and protect you...always." Bobby said

Ava put her head on his chest. "Stop it. You're so romantic. I can't even stand it. But you're my king and my other half. I love you, Bobby. I'll always be loyal to you Bobby. Always." she smiled as she kissed his chin

"I love you more, beautiful." Bobby said as she wrapped her arms around his neck and he wrapped his arms around her waist.

Before anything else could be said, the couple heard shouting outside and it was all too familiar voices. They looked out the window of the door, and saw it was none other than Ali and Daniel, screaming at one another.

"What the hell?" Bobby asked

"Daniel had a pissed off look on his face when prom started." Ava said. "At the nail salon, Ali did say that their relationship was on the rocks.

"Hey Ava." Ali said as she tapped her shoulder.

Ava turned around and gave her best friend a soft smile. "Yeah?"

"I'm going to head out early but I'll call you tomorrow, okay?" Ali said

"Ali, are you all right?" Ava asked

"Yeah." Ali said. "I'm fine."

"Would you like us to drive you?" Bobby asked

"No, a friend of mine from UCLA offered to drive me." Ali said softly. "But thank you anyway. Ava would you like to take a couple of pictures before I leave?."

"Of course." Ava smiled. "I'll be back, Bobby."

After the two girls took a couple of pictures, they bid each other goodbye, and Ali gave Bobby a cordial smile, then walked out of the gym.

A little later, Ava and Bobby took pictures with their friends, some funny, some serious, some with just the guys, some with just the girls. There was an after party up in the hills, but Bobby and Ava were going back to the beach house. But first there was one place she needed to go. She needed to see Ali.

The couple drove to Ali's, and they saw her parents weren't home. They walked up the steps, and Priscilla rang the doorbell twice until Ali answered it. She was in her pajamas and her eyes were red from crying. When she saw Ava, she began to cry again.

"Come here." Ava said, as she held her arms out and walked into Ali's home, followed by Bobby

Ali laid her head on her best friend's shoulder and sobbed into her neck, and she sobbed hard. Ava maneuvered the two of them over to the couch and Bobby closed the door.

"What happened honey?" Ava asked as Ali had calmed down as she wiped Ali's tears with the tissue

"Well, I ran into a guy that I know who goes to UCLA at prom. He was a date for one of the girls there. Daniel saw me talking to him and began jumping to conclusions that I was cheating on him." Ali said

"Ali, we know that's not true." Ava reassured

"I didn't crash Mr. Miyagi's car either. I told him that the brakes on the car were going to go." Ali said

"I know you didn't. Is there anything you need, do you need me to stay?" Ava asked

"Thanks but, I think I need to be alone." Ali smiled softly

"Okay." Ava smiled softly then embraced her best friend. "If you need me, please call me."

"I promise." Ali said

"Ali, I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for everything in the past." Bobby said.

"Hey, it's okay. I'm sorry as well. I only resented you because of the way you treated Ava. But then I saw you really did love her." Ali said. "If you would you would like, since you are going to marry my sister here, maybe we could be friends as well?"

"I'd like that as well." Bobby said

"Get some rest, hon." Ava said

"I will." Ali said. "Love you."

"Love you too." Ava said as she embraced the blonde, then she and Bobby left.

"Did you and my best friend just become friends?" Ava asked as she and Bobby walked down the steps

"Hey, I thought I was your best friend?" Bobby said as he opened the door for her

Ava rolled her eyes and laughed. "Honey, you can have more than one. You're my first and forever best friend, but Ali's my best female friend, and it's important for a girl to have one of those y'know."

Bobby chuckled in reply. "I know beautiful. I love you."

"I love you more." Ava smiled as she got in the passenger seat of Bobby's car

After a steamy shower session with Bobby, a freshly showered Ava walked out of the bathroom rubbing lotion on her arms, while Bobby sat up in the bed waiting for her.

"That was fun tonight." Bobby said as Ava turned off the lamp and laid down beside him

"Yeah." Ava said as the couple laid down and he pulled her petite frame close to his strong body. "When we graduate, I know we'll see Ali because obviously we'll be going to the same university as her, but I just can't help but think about something."

"What is it beautiful?" Bobby asked. "What's going through that beautiful head of your's?"

"I really have gotten close to your friends." Ava said as she traced his abdominal muscles. "I hope we never drift apart from them."

"You don't have to worry about that beautiful." Bobby said. "Something tells me they'll be coming around all the time."

"You promise?" Ava asked

"I promise." Bobby said. "I can promise you this, Ava Duncan, I'll never leave you again. I'm going to make you the happiest girl alive."

"I have no doubt in my mind that you will." Ava smiled. "You already make me so happy. Anyway, tonight has been fun, but I'm exhausted. Let's get some rest. Goodnight my love. I love you." she smiled as she kissed his lips, and snuggled into him and slowly drifted off to sleep.

"Goodnight beautiful. I love you too." Bobby said as he pulled Ava's body closer to his, closing his eyes and slowly drifting off to sleep as well
