After dropping Dunk and Gemini off at their respective places, Phuwin returned home feeling the weight of exhaustion. The day had been a whirlwind of activity—arriving late last night, preparing breakfast early in the morning, and spending the entire day running errands. He trudged back inside, rubbing his eyes as he stepped through the door.
New, who was comfortably lounging in the living room, noticed Phuwin’s weary state and approached him with concern. “Aww, my baby looks so tired. Go on, get some rest. I know how hard you’ve been working today.”
Phuwin, barely keeping his eyes open, managed a sleepy smile. “Thanks, Papa. Goodnight.”
He gave New a brief but affectionate hug before heading to his room, his steps heavy with fatigue. New watched him fondly, shaking his head with a soft smile, knowing how much Phuwin had done for everyone.
Later in the evening, Phuwin was jolted awake by Gemini’s phone call. He quickly got dressed and headed out to pick up his brother from university. When he arrived, Gemini eagerly hopped into the car, looking relieved to see Phuwin.
“Hey, Phu! You look like you managed to get some sleep,” Gemini said with a playful grin.
Phuwin yawned, still feeling the lingering drowsiness. “Just a little. I was up early and busy all day. But I’m happy to hang out with you.”
Phuwin pulled into the parking lot of the bookshop-café, the charming building bathed in the warm hues of the late afternoon sun. He turned off the engine and glanced at Gemini, who was already bubbling with excitement.
"Ready to explore?" Phuwin asked with a grin.
"Definitely," Gemini replied, his eyes sparkling. "I love this place."
They entered the bookshop-café, greeted by the inviting aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the faint scent of flowers. The space was a cozy sanctuary, with shelves of books lined against the walls, potted plants adding splashes of greenery, and a small section dedicated to fresh-cut flowers. They headed to the counter to order their drinks.
"I'll have a caramel macchiato, please," Gemini said, his voice cheerful.
"And I'll go with a cappuccino," Phuwin added.
As they waited for their drinks, Gemini began to recount his day. "So, Professor Lamsin was actually pretty cool about the extension I asked for. He said I had until next week, which is such a relief."
Phuwin nodded, listening attentively. "That’s great news. I always knew you’d find a way to make it work. What else happened today?"
Gemini continued, detailing his classes and a funny incident with a group project. Phuwin chuckled at Gemini's animated recounting, occasionally interjecting with questions or comments.
Their drinks arrived, and they moved to a small table nestled between bookshelves and potted plants. They sipped their beverages, Gemini’s caramel macchiato and Phuwin's cappuccino, enjoying the quiet ambiance of the café.
“Have you found any new books you’re interested in?” Phuwin asked, setting his cup down.
“Not yet,” Gemini said, scanning the shelves around them. “I was thinking of picking up something on modern literature. What about you?”
Phuwin shrugged, a thoughtful look on his face. “I’m more in the mood for travel books. Maybe something about hidden destinations. I want to find some interesting spots for us to explore next time.”
Gemini grinned. “Always the explorer. I like that.”
They finished their drinks and began browsing the shelves. Phuwin picked up a book on ancient civilizations, flipping through its pages with interest. Meanwhile, Gemini was engrossed in a novel about a young artist.
“Hey, Gem,” Phuwin called softly from across the aisle, holding up a book. “Look at this one. It’s about secret gardens and hidden gems around the world.”
Gem looked over, his eyes lighting up. “That looks amazing! You should definitely get it. Maybe it’ll inspire our next adventure.”
Phuwin chuckled and nodded. “You’re right. I’ll add it to my collection.”
After a bit more browsing, Phuwin decided to check out the other side of the shop. “I’m going to look at the travel section over there."
“Yeah, okay,” Gem said, tucking the novel under his arm.
