Over the past few weeks, Pond and Phuwin had become close again, the awkward gap that once existed now replaced with shy glances and secret smiles. During their office hours, they exchanged glances that spoke volumes, silently sharing their feelings in the midst of their busy lives. Joong, ever observant, had noticed the change and felt a sense of happiness for his friends, though he knew they were taking things slowly and keeping their relationship a secret.
Despite their growing closeness, the demands of their work had started to weigh on them. Their dates became less frequent as projects piled up. They missed each other, longing for the time when they could just be together. Late-night calls and morning texts had become their routine, but nothing could replace the warmth of being in each other's arms.
One late evening, Pond sat alone in his cabin, surrounded by a mountain of paperwork. The clock showed 8 p.m., and the office was eerily quiet as everyone had left hours ago. Pond sighed, his thoughts drifting to Phuwin. I miss you, he thought, glancing at his phone. He quickly shook off his thoughts, deciding to wrap up his work so he could get home and call Phuwin.
Suddenly, the door to his cabin creaked open. Pond looked up, startled. There, standing with a warm, teasing smile on his face, was Phuwin.
“Missed me?” Phuwin asked, his eyes twinkling.
Pond blinked, utterly surprised. “Phu? What are you doing here this late?” He quickly stood from his chair, a wave of relief washing over him. All his exhaustion seemed to vanish as he moved to hug Phuwin tightly. "I missed you," he whispered into Phuwin’s shoulder, holding him close.
Phuwin chuckled softly, hugging him back and nuzzling into Pond's shoulder. "I missed you too." They stood there in peaceful silence, just soaking in the presence of one another. It was as if time had stopped for them.
After a few moments, Phuwin gently backed away from the hug, only for Pond to tighten his grip. "No, don't go," Pond mumbled, his face buried in the crook of Phuwin's neck.
"Yeah, yeah," Phuwin laughed softly, patting Pond’s back. "I'm not going anywhere. But we are going somewhere." He pulled away, meeting Pond's curious gaze. "Come on, pack up. It’s already late."
Pond gave him a confused look, his brows furrowing. "But, Phu, there’s still work left to do..."
Phuwin simply shook his head, ignoring his words. "Work can wait," he insisted, already packing up Pond’s belongings into his bag. "Right now, we’re leaving."
“But...” Pond began, only to be cut off as Phuwin zipped up the bag and grabbed his hand.
“Shh. Just come with me.” Phuwin gave him a wink, dragging him out of the office.
Slightly dazed and exhausted, Pond allowed himself to be led out to the car. "Where are we going?" he asked, half curious and half ready to fall asleep right there.
"You'll see," Phuwin replied with a mysterious smile. "Now, just rest for a bit."
Pond, too tired to argue, sank into the seat and leaned back, soon dozing off. When they arrived at Pond’s condo, Phuwin parked the car and glanced at the sleeping Pond. A fond smile spread across his face as he gently shook Pond’s shoulder. “Pond, wake up. We’re here.”
Pond stirred, blinking sleepily. “Hmm?” He looked around, realizing they were at his place. “My condo?” he muttered, confused.
Phuwin simply took his hand, leading him upstairs. Once they reached the door, Phuwin unlocked it and gestured for Pond to go inside first. Pond entered cautiously, only to stop in his tracks, mouth agape at what he saw.
The living room was bathed in a soft, warm glow from fairy lights strung up around a pillow fort in the center. Cushions and blankets were artfully arranged, and a variety of snacks covered the coffee table nearby. It was cozy, inviting, and absolutely perfect.
Phuwin walked in, carrying a glass of water, which he handed to Pond. “Here, drink this,” he said gently.
Pond took the glass, his eyes still wide with surprise as he drank. “Phu, what is all this?” he asked, his voice filled with awe.
Phuwin gave him a warm smile, his eyes sparkling with excitement. “Well, I thought you could use a break. So, I planned a little movie night,” he explained. "Now, go freshen up, and I'll get the popcorn ready." He turned to head toward the kitchen.
Before he could take another step, Pond reached out and back-hugged him, resting his chin on Phuwin’s shoulder. “Thank you,” Pond whispered, his voice low and filled with emotion. “I love it.”
Phuwin froze, his breath hitching at the sudden contact. A rush of warmth flooded his chest as butterflies erupted in his stomach. He felt his heart skip a beat, trembling slightly at the sound of Pond’s whisper. Taking a shaky breath, he turned his head slightly to glance at Pond.
“Y-You’re welcome,” Phuwin stammered, blushing furiously as he smiled shyly. “I just... I wanted to do something special for you.”
Pond chuckled softly, his grip around Phuwin tightening for a brief second. “You’ve already made it special,” he said, finally pulling away and giving Phuwin a warm smile. “Okay, I’ll go freshen up. But no starting the movie without me.”
Phuwin let out a relieved laugh, nodding. “Deal,” he agreed, turning back toward the kitchen with a grin. "Now go, quickly! I’ll have everything set up by the time you’re out.”
Pond nodded, still smiling as he headed to his room. Phuwin watched him go, his heart swelling with affection. This was all he wanted...to see Pond happy and at ease. As he got to work preparing the popcorn, he couldn't help but feel a rush of joy at how the night was turning out.
