Chapter 21
Shalini's PoV
My heels clicked across the hospital, I found Arun staring off into the bustling morning, and mind you, views in Mumbai weren't worth looking at unless they were on a high floor. His face devoid of expression, I bit down on the inside of my cheek. Please let her not have made up with him
He was adorable, unmoved by my approaches, and even disinterested. Which made him all the more interesting, he was my plaything and he was perfectly fine with it. I noted that he had a broken heart and was masking it. Who else would know that expression better than a heartbreaker?
"Hullo, Handsome." I purred, trailing my fingertips across his shoulder. He stiffened instantly, "What are you doing here?"
"Let me guess, your precious Deepika is a bitch." I batted my eyelashes at him, his jaw clenched and he curled his hands into fists. "I said, what do you want?"
"I want my husband to pay attention to me," I huffed, Arun and I were in a contract marriage. A single year in marriage and turn, he'd be the heir that my family needed. Why he wanted to do it, who knows! Free Sex, maybe. It helps that I'm hot too. He told me he wasn't in love, it was just infatuation.
So why was he sitting here with a heartbroken SRK face?
"That bitch ain't worth it," I ran my hand through his hair, he met my gaze. "Besides, your wife is more beautiful."
"Shut up, Shalini." He growled, His gaze flicked over my shoulder then to my lips. He placed his lips on mine, his gaze still trained on something, or someone else. He broke apart from me, "Good." He grunted.
I heard the stomping of feet behind me, someone was running away. Oh wow, did he just use me to make someone jealous?
"Don't read into the kiss." He grunted, shrugging quite simply. "I needed to know if Deepika was lying or not."
"And was she?" My interest was aroused, I glanced at him curiously. I saw a slight smile tug at his lips, "She ran away, I think she was very affected."
"You know, you're interested though Shalini." He chuckled, "You watch and spark other people fight and you move onto a new boyfriend every week."
"And you're using me to forget your girlfriend," I shrugged, the two of us fell into silence and I broke it.
"I guess we're both each other's distractions."
He frowned ever so slightly, "What do you mean?"
"I know you're faking it, but this is the happiest I've ever been. I know it's fake, it's just an act for my parents. But I can't help but wish it was real-" I stole a glance at him before sighing.
"Your always so sweet, and let's be honest, this is the most real fun I've ever had that doesn't involve getting drunk or sex." I smiled, I was an open book, whatever I think is what I say. "Everyone you knew in your family was so sweet, so different from nine. At a point, I became envious. Because I never got that kind of attention at the shithole called my house. Maybe my parents love me, but their solution to the world is simple, money. My brother, Akash, understood the pain. But he ditched me too."
"Now, looking at you so heartbroken, I'm not sure if it's you I like or because going out with you gives me the distraction and comfort I wanted." I laughed, my hair flying slightly as a breeze passed by the window.
"But, I'm going to help you." I turned to Arun with a bright smile, If I can't have love, it's okay. I'll help someone else
"I'll help you get Deepika back."

Ta Da~
But yes, don't judge someone by their actions. Arun could have a perfectly logical reason to do this, and Shalini doesn't have to be a 2D typical character.
Whaddya think? I find that cliches need to be broken, that's why almost all my characters are nice. Misunderstandings are more common in relationships than evil people, so we just need communication.
also I really love comments so comment away!
