Chapter 10
Deepika's PoV
Shreyas picked up his phone, "Hardik sent a message a while back."
"Will take a while." Shreyas read out loud. I let out a groan before resting my head on the metal wall. My stomach did a bit of a flip, it was around dinner time outside. Shreyas fished out a water bottle and what looked like a lunch box. I bit down on my tongue to control my laughter.
"Laugh all you want," He shrugged, "I'm the one with the food."
My stomach growled once more, louder this time. Heat rose to my cheeks, as Shreyas grinned at me. He opened the box, I saw sandwiches inside the black box. He passed one to me.
"Were you serious about being that celebrity?" I cast a curious glance at him, chewing the first bite of the mundane sandwich.
Sandwiches Never Tasted This Good.
"Kinda don't wanna bring it up." His broad shoulders rose up and down in a shrug. "Don't get me wrong, I love playing for the country."
"But?" I piped in when he fell silent.
"But it's a little tough to be 'normal'" He admitted at last, "And kinda like this," He gestured between the two of us.
"You enjoy being stuck in the metal box of doom?" I raised an eyebrow.
"The company makes the option more appealing." He flashed me a wink, I rolled my eyes.
"Oh please," I scoffed, "I'm way over your league."
"Uh-huh?" He raised an eyebrow, "I'm an international level cricket player."
"And I'm the doctor." I pointed out, "I had to go through five years of education for that."
"And if we are gonna continue bragging," I paused. "My parents own this hospital."
He dusted his hands, sipping the water before passing it to me.
"My turn to ask the questions." He stretched, rising to his feet. "Who's the guy on your lockscreen?"
"My best friend and brother," I responded, He'd recently married his long time girlfriend so just to add on the brother sentiment, my lock screen changed.
"Why did you become a doctor?" He questioned once more leaning to the side, flexing his muscles.
"Cause I wanted to," I responded as vaguely as possible. "Besides it's fun to stick needles into people and watch their misery."
"Vile Woman," He retorted.
It had been at least two hours, outside it would be around 11:30 PM. My eyelids felt heavy, I'd worked my ass off today. The elevator began shaking, Shreyas and I, in unison, started chanting the prayers. His hands firmly planted around my waist, the two of us pressed up against each other in a corner.
The shaking stopped, and at last, we realized the position we were in. His gaze darkened momentarily and flicked to my lips. I felt myself ease out in the embrace.
Ding!
The elevator door opened, revealing a small gawking crowd, staring at us.

*Them about to kiss*
